Title: Legality of Bitcoin Gambling
Post by: Skezaz on June 28, 2016, 09:36:49 AM
Despite most governments do not recognize Bitcoin as a currency, all those restrictions and existing laws relating to online and mobile gambling apply to bitcoin gambling. If online gambling with fiat money is illegal in your jurisdiction, then it is also illegal with BTC.

In my country gambling is legal. There are also online sites which started accepted bitcoin for gambling.I wonder when I will see some regulations in this sense.Bitcoin is becoming common and being widely  use in online gambling industry.I didn't face any problem so far as gambling is legal here.

Bitcoin gambling so far is working like under the radar as governments didn't take it in consideration to introduce some rules and regulations to protect users or to gain taxes from it.In my jurisdiction fiat gambling is under rules and laws while bitcoin gambling is free of all these restrictions.

Seems in the UK the bitcoin sites will need to apply and be granted a gambling license, sites such as cloudbet etc do not allow signups from people residing in the UK.

Here it is a bit strange, most lotteries and casino's are owned by the state, btc isn't acknowledged as a real currency but businesses are being created with it and still need to pay taxes. If we followed our laws by the rule we are not allowed to gamble online here on any casino, but still if we win big we need to pay taxes over the won amount.  ???

If gambling is illegal to your country then using bitcoin in gambling is still illegal.
Thus the reason why some users here in the forum are using VPN. And as you may notice too, VPN providers are here as well luring you to subscribe. :)

Yeah Law in the online gambling using fiat money will also be applied to bitcoin gambling.

as they both share the same way of playing gambling online.

If you want to play gambling using bitcoins but it its illegal in your country, then try to use VPN, Proxy changer, or other ways to change your geolocation that can be trace using the proxy that you used.

No it's legal. Bitcoin is seen as a commodity not a currency/ There are very few laws or regulations about btc. This is exactly why we use btc.
It's decentralized and it can't be controlled by anyone.

But it will not be considered as illegal if there is no any statement about BTC being a currency in your countries law. If it is not a currency than defination will still be a computer generated token and gambling with it would be only considered as computer game.  ;D ;D

Yes, it all depends on what hunk of dirt in you live on.  Depending on the government that you are living under, bitcoin might be considered a currency, a commodity, or not even recognized.  The legality of bitcoin gambling will depend on the "definition" of bitcoin that your government uses, along with any regular gambling regulations.

Online gambling now is illegal in my country, so we need to follow rules if we don't want to deactivated our local bitcoin wallet. But bitcoin accepted here just only gambling is illegal.

1.You don't seem to understand basic rules of the forum. You're continuously asking loans with a newbie account and zero collateral. That is enough for me to assume the way you think.

2.Who said it isn't ? All the countries supporting gambling online are supporting it with bitcoins.Lot of gambling sites themselves are banned from accessing through these countries.

3.You're contradicting yourself here,if bitcoin is not even "recognized" as a currency ,why should even government be bothered about banning it ?

necessarily true, because gambling has lots of sources that can be used. So if it's in a State gambling is illegal then every thing related to gambling it is also illegal, but it applies only when it is used for gambling.

How does the government deactivate your wallet? Do they have a way of finding out who's gambling with bitcoin?

Honestly, I think that users who are online gambling should be fine. However, if someone is running an online gambling site in a jurisdiction where it's illegal, they could get into serious trouble.

Nope not the  government deactivated your acount it's part of terms of condition of the service , if found that your bitcoin is from gambling sites they will freeze your acoun and end with deactivated , like coinbase it's the same terms of conditions,  much more restricted now becouse our government warn that online gambling is illegal.

when "gambling" is illegal in a country then "gambling" in all its forms becomes illegal and it doesn't matter what you use for payment. that is why bitcoin gambling falls under the same category and i believe they are illegalizing bitcoin gambling more because they can't tax bitcoin.

Here in my country I don't know if the bitcoin gambling is legal because bitcoin is not actually recognizable by the most people and also by the government I guess . And there are so many casinos here and also online casinos and gambling that is accepted maybe bitcoin gambling is not legal I guess because it cannot be controlled by the government before it becomes legalized the government should have a control with that and they will make a new bill or laws for it .

In my country gambling is still legal, and about bitcoin gambling there is no any regulations. I think we will see in future some laws about it, like someone said they will try to tax bitcoin gambling somehow its just a question when and how.
In any case I think we will find a way to skip this regulations, and for sure they can`t forbid gambling. We will always find some site, or use VPN, or any other way. I think in my country there will be no problems with this, there is a lot of casinos, real one`s and expansion of online casinos is just started. Its gonna be interesting to see how will government tax it, I`m sure they will do it. Its too much money at stake, and they will wish to take a piece of that for them.
