Just want to be sure you're not confusing PGP (pretty good privacy - a data encryption and decryption computer program) with the general concept of public-key cryptography, widely used in Bitcoin. Perhaps you might see Pgp signatures to validate the binaries came from someone on the dev team. How do you verify the gpg binaries have not been replaced after downloading via HTTP?
