Title: Namecheap banning faucet ? Can you review please
Post by: chekamarue on June 29, 2016, 04:23:27 PM
Hi,

I have my faucet registered and hosted by their services and I have been in conflict with them since 3 days now

here is the last message I receive from them

Thank you for the reply.

Let us clarify that the bitcoin faucet is considered to be a kind of the bitcoin mining, since it is the way of gaining a cryptocurrency. We would like to underline that such an activity is prohibited by our Policies. You are welcome to refer to the evidences from the attached files.

Therefore, it is required to remove the content in question within the previously mentioned timeframe. Looking forward to hearing from you.

==================

How I'm suppose to response to such bullshit it's clearly an abuse of position

Any help or idea would be appreciated

Thanks

I took a look at the "Terms of Service" and the "Acceptable Use Policy" posted on the namecheap website, and I don't see anything that would prohibit faucets or bitcoin mining.

Did they provide you with an attachment in the email with evidence that the activity is prohibited?

Perhaps, take the word "faucet" off your website and let them know that you've changed the site.  Tell them it is no longer a "faucet", and that now it is just a simple "pay-per-click" advertising site?

EDIT:  Thanks to Nixtren for linking to the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) that specifically bans bitcoin mining.

There are a shitload of hostings around the interwebs, if they don't want your business just move to some other place.

Honestly namecheap is not a good place to buy domain they have someterms  like that they are not allowing bitcoin mining related but faucet is not a bitcoin mining.. you can explain it will to them that your faucet is not mining site..

I'm not a Namecheap customer

"A Bitcoin Faucet is nowhere near a kind of Bitcoin mining at all. A faucet donates small amounts of Bitcoins to newcomers. I'm not in violation of the AUP because I'm not doing anything related to bitcoin mining." If they persist ask them to pass to someone who actually understands Bitcoin. I would literally say that.

Bitcoin mining ("bitcoin miners") is forbidden by the AUP, I also took a while to see where Bitcoin was referenced:
https://www.namecheap.com/legal/hosting/aup.aspx

I would not follow the approach of saying it's not a "faucet" anymore, Namecheap is the one that has to end with their bullshit :)

it will affect the whole site and will have a bad result in Seo ,,, but I will keep at last resort

Your only other hope is to find someone on their staff that understands that a "faucet" is just a pay-per-click advertising site that happens to pay with bitcoins, and that mining is the process of repeatedly calculating a double-SHA256 hash of a bitcoin block header in an attempt to find a solution lower than the current difficulty.  If nobody on their staff is willing to discuss it with you, then you might just have to take your business elsewhere.

You might like to try BestHostFree.com (http://besthostfree.com). Our basic plan is free. It offers 1 GB space and 5 GB bandwidth per month. Once your faucet grows and you require more resource, you may seamlessly upgrade to paid plan using bitcoin. Many forum member have already tried our service. Once you try, you may share your experience here as well - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=617213.40.

I will consider your Startup Hosting Plan as a next move step if I get suspended in namecheap

Very strange since I've seen other sites in crypto that use namecheap that allow users to win BTC. Doesn't namecheap even allow you to pay in BTC? lol  ???

I would like this case to be passed to a supervisor as I'm not in violation of the AUP. It seems you're blindly following an AUP without dominating the concept of "Bitcoin mining". You refuse to understand the difference between a Bitcoin Faucet (which is a website where I *donate* cents of Bitcoin to new users) and Bitcoin Mining. Since donating is forbidden? Please let me talk with a supervisor or someone that actually understands what Bitcoin Mining is, at all.

I would recommend you moving your hosting somewhere else, but keep fighting. Seriously, I want to see their reaction ;D

I do not see any relation between faucets and bitcoin mining, why a big company like namecheap said something like this !.
even if it is a way to get bitcoin, it is not mining at all.

The Only suggestion I can give you is.
Just move your domain + hosting to another service. if they have the policy to don't allow bitcoin faucets then they don't listen your thoughts and vice.
I also don't think that bitcoin faucets are a farm of mining. it is just a way to earn some free satoshi by a user..
if you can prove that they may change their policy about bitcoin faucets. because their policy s about mining and they considering faucets as mining too which is not right.

as you see, they just don't give a shit, get into another domain & hosting provider, although namecheap is not that good should've requested refunds by the way and get a bitcoin debit card then move to another hoster such as hostgator or anything else, even to be honest buying VPS or Dedicated Server is better way because you'll get very few rules as you can afford it
domain provider can't offer good hosting and hosting provider can't offer good domain, just separate em'

It's fine if u host domain @ namecheap, it's secure and cheap with whois guard. But if your hosting involve bitcoins, it's better move elsewhere, or suffer the consequences.

I would recommend Vultr, They are same like DigitalOcean but they accept Bitcoins. I'd like you to know that you'll first have to link your CC/DC/PayPal before they enable Bitcoin deposits.

Update on my case in Namecheap

They finally unlocked my account and admitted that the main problem was about my traffic spike due a to an ad campaign in the last few days before the suspension.
That was awkward tho... I don't know why they didn't just ask me to upgrade my resources rather than bring a none sens excuses for suspending my account ...

Any way sooner or later I will need to move out

Thanks all

they're providing VPS not a Shared hosting as namecheap provided, when operating need to put much effort than using shared hosting when faucet doesn't need too big spec to run, wasting of money, and sometime need to be maintenance

Under what hosting are you under? As far as I know if you're using a VPS and hosting a site in it there shouldn't be a problem. I've used Namecheap for years now and never had a problem with it. I'd suggest you go find an unmanaged VPS and host your site there so you can do it very cheap.

oh really namecheap is the one who support bitcoin payment and still don't know that fauceting is not mining. They seem to be noob and i don't see any reason for them to not support faucets, they can say cloud mining ponzi like hashocean is not supported.  :o

I have used host1plus few months ago to host bitcoin and altcoin faucet and never got any problem from them. They also support bitcoin payment and price is reasonable/cheap.

I recommend a VPS provider such Vultr or DigitalOcean too. I had experienced many problems with Namecheap such as downtime, DDoS attacks and blocked traffic.
I changed several the hosting provider. Everything were not good except VPS. I'm hosting currently on a VPS and it's quite better. You aren't sharing any server resources with other hoster and you have the full control about the server which is a good pros.

A faucet website does not require too much spce and bandwidth to run so shared hosting is enough .

I am running my faucet website in less than $1 per month cost .

Thats true. a faucet does not really need big hosting packages and bandwidth do host faucet sites. a simple and built in faucet like faucetbox faucet can be easily setup on a free webhosting service. and I think faucets should host in free services. because faucet's traffic are almost direct from faucet lists and the forum and premium domain and hosting could be good for something which really need big work like SEO Etc.

and free domain also can be listed in Search engine.

Hostinger got some free domains, but be careful i heard from 3 people that they just removed the free hosting packages (no reason given).
And for me being into faucets quite some time, a free domain faucet is always ignored by me.

that's the way how they trick their free users to do an upgrade, actually they would telling their free users that their website just exceed the certain bandwith and need to upgrade, but sometimes without reason, just get away from any free things if you seeking for comfortably
