Title: I want my money!!
Post by: Andreas1324 on July 12, 2016, 05:19:33 AM
I am so pissed off. I have 480 mBTC stuck in my electrum wallet.
Because I have forgotten the stupid password.
I need the money so bad I am getting crazy now.
I have allready tried to do the thing in commando center with the programs for searching for matching password because I might remember some part of the password. I worked on that for a LOT of hours and finally I got panic and could get through it. I didnt get it to work or something.
I want the money so bad. Someone please say something smart.
How can it be so stupid that if one forgets the password the money is locked away and nothing can get them back. It stupid, it is almost like stealing my money.
Oh my God. Please help

Do you have the seed? If so then you can recover your wallet using it.

Then you shouldn't have used the password (or perhaps Bitcoin itself). It's working as intended and is not at all stupid.

Judging by your post history you do not have the seed. Your only option is hoping you remember enough of the password for a service like https://walletrecoveryservices.com/ (https://walletrecoveryservices.com/) to crack it. Take this as a valuable lesson and next time (if there is a next time) properly back up your wallet.

because if it was easy to recover the funds without the password then there were no security in the wallet.
which also means a hacker could have had access to the funds even without the password.

it is your own ignorance and has nothing to do with how electrum works. there is enough warnings about backing up your password and seed on the internet and on the docs so you can't say i wasn't warned.

Did you write down the seed somewhere? the app forces you to do that when making the wallet.

Be thankful it's only $317.00 which is basically nothing in this economy..

Seed or pass or bust.. You could brute force the pass in time.

Where are you from ? The place where I come from $317 can feed a family of 4 for a month, and yes we're a part of global economy but that's off topic for now..

@OP ,Tried restoring the wallet with the seed ? Which version of electrum are you using ? Mention some technical details apart from whining ,we can assist you better.

This. Not rubbing salt in your wound, but this is bitcoin working exactly as designed. ACH has given us the impression that transactions should always be reversible. I tend not to agree.

I'd try to brute force this, you should have an idea of what the pass might be, and this will greatly reduce the time required.

It's not electrum's fault that you forgot the password. If you value money so much, you should take better care for it.

You may still have a chance to recover it, but next time be more responsible with your money.

A loaf of bread is $1.50(cheapest thing in the store) and the average life expectancy is 78.7 years but thanks for the economics lesson..

Assume they don't have the seed.. What are you going to recommend to them? I hope it isn't derived from your math skills..

Hi guys, thanks for your replies and shown interest in my problem.
I do actually agree, this is the way it works and its the way it should work.

I guess it is easier for me to be less resentful against it all now that I FOUND MY PASSWORD!!!!! :)
I knew I had written it down on a piece of paper and yesterday I found it!
I feel very lucky now! Next time I will be more careful

So now that I have my password again, is anyone so kind to answer another type of question.

Is it possible to transfer the money to a bankaccount and in that way get it back as "real" money? And if so how do I do that? I am new with this.

Say I would like to transfer them onto another bankaccount other than my own bankaccount wich I got the money from in the first place.

I can try.

Is it possible to transfer the money to a bankaccount and in that way get it back as "real" money? And if so how do I do that? I am new with this.

Well, bitcoin is real money. You think of it as money from a different country. Just one you cant visit physically. If you prefer a different currency right now you can sell your bitcoin to someone else.

Say I would like to transfer them onto another bankaccount other than my own bankaccount wich I got the money from in the first place.

This will not be possible with major exchanges due to AML/KYC laws they have to follow. In a person to person deal I dont think it would make a difference where they send the fiat money to. You just need a way to check the balance to make sure you got paid. Maybe its easier to exchange for cash first and deposit to the other bank account?

Its a bit offtopic here, so its probably better to create a new thread here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0
or here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0

Congratulations on having the password again. Now before you do anything click Wallet - Seed from your electrum bitcoin wallet and write down the 12 or 13 words depening on the number of your electrum. This is extremely important as with the seed you can restore the wallet and all of the bitcoin it contains any time even if you lose the password. Now regarding transfering the coins from your wallet to another bank account you can use exchanges. A good one is Coinimal which don't ask you for verification but you will need about 6 days to transfer all of your funds as 50 USD per day maximum you can sell there. You will lose some from the exchange rate there but I think its a fair price to pay to not get into trouble from verifications and such.
