Title: Easter and Bitcoin
Post by: crazy_rabbit on March 19, 2013, 05:58:53 PM
Any guesses what will happen over easter? It's a long weekend which gives us an extra day for insanity, and extra long wait times to get more cash into the system.

I need to find a nearby farm where I can buy hay for my rabbits with BTC.

Why should an extra day affect the price? Weekend dip myth extended?

It's Easter now, which is a massive (western) worldwide holiday. A lot of people travel or spend a lot of time with their families during Easter, and banks are on holiday as well.

If you look at bitcoincharts ( http://www.bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg5ztgOzm1g10zm2g25zv ) you'll see that the action starts to quiet down on Good Friday, when people get do their last moves before going for a holiday, and then basically dies for the weekend with lower volumes than during normal weekends. There is no cash flowing in due to banks being closed and people are 'offline' due to being on vacation. As the exhanges are online, I am a bit surprised the price hasn't gone down, since people do have the chance of selling while new money is not available.

On monday the action will likely pick up a little bit, but it's still a western holiday so it'll probably be much quieter than a normal monday. Come tuesday, the game is back on. Even as us geeks spend loads of time online 24/7 and here in bitcointalk it's fun to look at how the coin is doing, it doesn't mean the rest of the world has got nothing better to do during holidays.

Didn't expect the price to hold this well. Add to this the reports of over 8,500 people waiting for verification at Gox...

I'm starting to think that things are only just getting started, but that is also what I would be thinking if this were a bubble.

One thing is clear: April 2013 is going to be the biggest month for Bitcoin yet, for better or for worse.

I'm also surprised that mtgox USD is currently above $93. My feeling is, that currently the best move is "not to move" and wait. The queue length for mtgox verification is also rather meaningless for an up or down sentiment, because it only takes a few big holders who want to cache out to initiate a larger drop. OTOH, that would be a great buying opportunity, too :)

We'll continue to hold roughly steady in the $90s over this weekend then have a big rally next week, and possibly pull back into the 90$ again by the end of the week.

Nothing happened this weekend (like expected).

I expect the price to break the $100 mark, maybe $110 but not $120 and never $150!

The price has done moderately well this weekend considering banks closed for a major holiday. There have been several spurts of intense buying pressure. Couple that with a large number of news reports of bitcoin hitting the $1B market cap from this Friday, and I think we will see quite a run Tuesday. Whether or not we hit $100 and bounce down or fly right through it will probably be a matter of circumstance.
