Title: Best time to hold other currencies aside from bitcoin
Post by: Xester on July 20, 2016, 12:37:48 PM
Aside from bitcoin being the center of attention we must also include other cryptocurrency that the virtual economy has to offer.
Bitcoin before from less a dollar has shown a tremendous increase in price that goes up to 700$.

That potential is also potent to other currency. So it is best if we will not only focus on bitcoin but rather the whole cryptocurrency economy.

BTC is the only one holding long term, but playing with alts can give you great results if you know when to buy and sell... it's all about timing.

Right now, MAID seems like a good buy. ETH can always pump... there's a lot of people involved even tho I don't like the coin.
XMR, I think will eventually pump too.

not really.
only bitcoin is worth holding on to because it has a clear successful future. the rest of the cryptocurrencies are only pump and dumps with no clear future.
so holding any of them for long term is a tremendeus risk that i am not willing to take.

You can start holding Ethereum as of now since they have undergone a hard fork for good.
The price has significantly risen since then.

If you want to hold other cryptos besides Ethereum then you can visit http://coinmarketcap.com and invest on the first 5 coins that are enlisted there. They are the highest regulated cryptocurrencies of all time.
Except ripple because ripple is a pre-mined scam.

Bitcoin is number one now but anything could happen in the future, remember when MySpace was number one.

Doesnt all the in-house fighting within the bitcoin devs not worry you regarding the future of bitcoin?

Im not an alt coin investor but i always have my eye on what's new.

No other altcoin can defeat the power of bitcoin. Cause 7 years have passed and bitcoin is still standing and getting  stronger.
By 2020 bitcoin is the one standing and all altcoins will gone.

Not all crypto currency, just focus in altcoin that have a potential but not buy or hold all altcoin. There is many create just to scam people's money and don't have road map and good project.

Eventually we will see the rise of another coin.
Maybe Etherium will be the second coin. Maybe it will crash.
It's a good sign to see Coinbase start dealing with Etherium, though.

I keep looking at Zcash.
It's an interesting idea to have anonymous transactions, and it has some huge investors.

Eventually some other currency will stick.
But most altcoins are just some pump and dump scheme right now.

i have bad experience holding too longer the particular altcoins without see the market cap and i was very wrong to predict the prices because only in a month those coins become an dead coin and delisted on exchange and since that i have no doubt only bitcoin is the best coin for long term holder and i was never holding long term altcoins any longer because those experience was enough for me

Investing in other currencies is a good thing to do, if we talk about a currency that has potential. If you check out the top 50 altcoins on coinmarketcap: http://coinmarketcap.com/
You will find they hold a lot of value, billions. which tells me there is potential there.

No. I am only putting trust and faith in Bitcoin as other (altcoins) currencies are just here for people to throw some money at in order to make quick dollars.

That's why I will never "invest" a single penny or Satoshi in any of the altcoins. I say "invest" because it's more like gambling.

If you are dreaming into a cash machine you should own a portion of each altcoin, dreaming with the new potencial bitcoin, but i doubt any cryto currencie can reach bitcoin direction, sure some coin can be pumped and this happens all days, soo try to get the more coins as possible and hold them, your time will come as long someone has interest into it besides the developers.

That is very true and thank you for supporting my argument. I have been observing the coinmarket and you are right. That is also the basis of my opinion. If in case it will succeed then we will laugh in the end and those who do not believe will regret. But if it is a failure there is no big loss since we have it when there value is very low.

That's funny, because I put invest in quotes in another thread for much the same reason.  I've made a very small amount of money trading altcoins, but I've found that it's just as risky as trading penny stocks.  I think if I did it for an extended period of time I'd lose everything I put in, and I'm not going to be the sucker who does that.

I agree, bitcoin is it.  Other coins may be a trader's dream but if any crypto is going to survive, it's going to be bitcoin.

What bitcoin does in past is quite impressive and also being first have been advantageous for bitcoin to get quick adoption. However the challenges for any new coin to get same adoption and popularity just like bitcoin is very high and i think it is almost impossible for any other coin to get same price hike just like bitcoin. However ethereum is showing somewhat better chance on getting much more attention than other alts out there. Although recent security flaw in the dampps of ethereum has effected their growth so much that it may have to re-consider how dampps will be worked on their platform in future.

It maybe a good idea to hold some of the major altcoins such as etherium, dash, litecoin, etc. I don't think I can afford to hold any altcoins right now, so I'm focusing on building up my bitcoin balance, but I would look at adding altcoins back in when I am satisfied with my bitcoin holdings. I think some of the altcoins will stick around an be used along with bitcoin.

We are free to decide where to invest our money, It is good to check also other coins because we are up to date what other cryptocurrencies are doing.
An investment than can bring profit (not always) can be investing in new coins at the ICO phase and then sell after a while.

I agree with this one. With bitcoin already making a name and attracting investors, there is a possibility that other cryptocurrency will also increase in value. Some of it has already dollar value and trading with dollars . Maybe an investor will pump it and then others will follow through then become stable in value. We will never know.  Bitcoin is the father of cryptocurrency and there will be others in the future also that will be better than bitcoin because people are always researching and inventing so it is a big possibility that someday another cryptocurrency will overtake bitcoin. Just like what happen to social media before, I can remember only Friendster as a big hit before then facebook appear and then slowly Friendster disappear in the scene. It’s a never ending process. It just keeps evolving.

Crypto coins has become phenomenal since past few years, it has grown to a large scale, it is a good idea to hold some alt coin, some of the coin has the potential to reach bitcoin spot, although not in short period of time, for now bitcoin is still the king of cryptocurrency but there is no guarantee that it can last forever

I agree with your statement up to some extent but there are literally no alternative crypto currencies as good as bitcoins. Yes, there are some currencies which are better than bitcoin but if we are considering the whole package I don’t see any good alternatives. Focusing on bitcoin will make it better and on the other hand we should also promote crypto currency as a technology because that’s what bitcoin is all about. Although there is only one major player (bitcoin) at the moment, but I think we will have more crypto currencies in future to compete with it (please don’t quote current shitty alternatives).

No. I disagree. You don't even give an argument for your claim.

Compared to Bitcoin, the other altcoins have almost no real world use. In fact, they greatly depend on Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is their reference currency. Bitcoin due to its first mover advantage and size has a strong network effect that draws in capital and development talent. Altcoins lack such a network effect and must be constantly marketed to prevent capital drain.

The advantages most altcoins offer are not really significant compared to Bitcoin. Moreover, it is likely that useful features that were first introduced by altcoins might be incorporated into Bitcoin later, leading to the demise of the altcoin that first introduced them.

i don't agree with any of this.

Aside from bitcoin being the center of attention we must also include other cryptocurrency that the virtual economy has to offer.

no, you don't "have to" include anything in your portfolio. only buy those that you are interested in and think they have a good future, there is no obligation.

Quote
Bitcoin before from less a dollar has shown a tremendous increase in price that goes up to 700$.

again. this is only dreaming. the rise of bitcoin from $0.01 to $1200 is an exception and happened because of many different reasons, one of which was the fact that it was the first and only crypto that does what bitcoin does.

Quote
That potential is also potent to other currency. So it is best if we will not only focus on bitcoin but rather the whole cryptocurrency economy.

no it is not.
as long as there is bitcoin no other altcoin can rise up to bitcoin level.

although this doesn't mean that other altcoins can not be successful. and i don't mean pump and dump success like ethereum. i am talking about real success in the project. but the price can never go up to bitcoin level.

Yes, can agree with this. ETH have millions USD in background, so may be it is best choice nowadays. Also Doge is very popular, for example in gambling. Bitcoin come first, and the others follow.  ;D

Disagree about focusing on other cryptos. Other cryptos are just made for "profit taking" and no such thing it has concern for the economy like bitcoin is doing today.

So if you want some different option to earn then try altcoin trading. But for focusing it, no way.

Currently invest into altcoins is being quite profitable for the most, im not doing it because i got bad experiences doing those. But with the halving price the altcoins are searching for their new value, soo those altcoins will and must readjust to the new bitcoin value, now the prixe mixed again we need to wait.

We are free to focus also on other cryptocurrencies as it is easy to check and hold other coins, I think we should not focus on many coins but a maximum of few altcoins is enough because we can't manage and check the exchange rate for each very often.

Yeah most altcoin is not currently intended use as currency or payment methods, but they are more likely as a trading tool
because pf ICO coin and moreover it is hard for a currency or cryptocurrency to beat the popularity of bitcoin. eventhough etherum ?

Bitcoin started out as an unknown coin before it got to limelight. The altcoin that is so cheap now could multiply in value two years from now, it's better to hold on to small amounts of viable altcoins in the market and watch how things will turn out.

And what other cryptocurrency do you suggest?

Altcoins can`t beat bitcoin and only speculators use them.

I think that 95% of the entire cryptocurrency economy is presented by bitcoin and 5%-by altcoins.
