Dear Bitcointalk users,

I have just graduated from university and as a side-project I have begun coding a social networking site, similar to Twitter in it's functionality. Although I have been in web development for many years I would still class myself as an amateur PHP/JQuery coder, so I am taking everything as it comes. After a-lot of brainstorming and a competition run over in the services section, I decided on the name "Dwable" pronounced "Dw-Able" - URL: Dwable.com (http://Dwable.com) (currently just a landing page).

Populating and making a success of a new social networking site can be a tricky task. However I feel up for the challenge. You may be asking what the unique selling point will be in comparison to platforms like Twitter. The main differences at the moment would be as follows:

- Censorship free
- Greater focus on what the users want
- Added features (more on this later)
- Greater leniency on terms (e.g. selling of accounts etc)
- Integration of cryptocurrency (still being decided in what format)

There is some thought in my mind to monetise content and usage in a mutually beneficial way. Similar strategies implemented by Steem and GetGemz. Currently a-lot of different cryptocurrency options and currencies are being thought about.

This post is just to serve as an official pre-announcement and to hopefully gather any interested parties.

I think you just forgot to add links. so at least add one link of your site's home page that we can easily jump on the site from here.

Thanks for the replies. The site link is: Dwable.com (http://Dwable.com). This will take you to a pretty bog standard landing page at the moment.

Before the site launches there will be several testing stages including:

- Pre-alpha (invite only)
- Alpha
- Beta
- Final

Currently I am on course to begin with pre-alpha soon. There were reasons for not disclosing the link in order to protect the servers identity during testing. However after taking measures I am comfortable enough to do so now.

Why not consider all valuable coins, while WAVES can be good, also accept the rest like DASH and ETH and of course BTC.
having good contents really can be your best assets here.

I certainly will. It's likely only one will be integrated to start though.

Whether I create my own will depend on the need for finance (through an ico) and the reward structure (will I have enough of an existing coin to incentivise with it).

Anyway right now I'm working on just the very core features and optimising for different display sizes.

- Posting (no char limit at the moment)
- Following/Unfollowing
- Liking Dwables (although the current count is not displayed)
- Limited profile update
- View home feed
- View profile feed

Please provide any feedback you can. Keep in mind the site is still very basic.

- Restructured some of the architecture.
- Users can now 'Redwable' other posts. This feature is currently limited to just show on profiles and not the timeline. It took a while for me to figure out the best approach for this and update the code accordingly.
- Like and Redwable count are now shown on profile Dwables.

Updates:

- Now added SSL and forced http > https.
- Restructured likes to a similar structure to Redwables.
- As a result likes are now sorted descending according to when the user liked the Dwable.

- Added 'Redwables' to the main timeline. This means you can now see your own Redwables (they get bumped up) and the Redwables of other users you follow.
- Fixed some other minor bugs.

- Dwables now have a 150 character limit (verified server side for now)

No doubt this is a welcomed project, how do you intend to monetize it because pop up ads could easily get people annoyed, i will advise you not to be in a hurry to monetize your site until you have 1000 plus registered members.

Yes ofc pop-up ads will never be considered.

I agree, monetization of the site is not a priority.

First things are building a community, making sure it's secure and adding features.

Updates:

- Pop-up Dwable info window partly completed.

Still need to hook up the javascript to the Like and Redwable buttons on the pop-up (these will function but not transition correctly).

Pop-up Dwable is limited to just the timeline and won't be available on any loaded in Dwables (e.g. loading new or old Dwables) or profiles until I transfer accross the finished code.

Some dimensions (e.g. font-sizes/colors/spacing) were also changed so these will need to be transferred as-well.

When clicked pop-up will change the url to "dwable". This will soon be changed to "dwable/[dwableid]".

Users viewing their own pop-up Dwable will not have the follow/report option.

This is also the first instance where the time of a Dwable is published.

Looks very cool ! I love this kinda thing. I wonder what options we will get to gather coin.  Its blog mining ^^ So for now I guess we build up out profile and await the release so we can earn coins ?

Don't hurry to monetize your site, maybe just few but not overload, becaue it may irritate the users to start in your site.

Unfortunately I've had and will continue having interviews most of this week.

Updates:

- Finally finished the pop-up Dwable window and applied it to all pages.

I was initially using a pre-written jQuery script but decided to re-code it myself to simplify it.

I also ran into a-lot of unexpected issues a-long the way which needed to be fixed (e.g. not to pop-up when like/redwable/text is clicked/highlighted & stop from loading content when clicked off and another Dwable clicked +more)

- The pop-up should also change the URL to https://dwable.com/status/12345

When you click off it will go back to /home or /userprofile.

Please note actual Dwable status pages haven't been developed yet so visiting https://dwable.com/status/12345 will result in a 404 error.

I've started work on a notifications page with the aim of releasing notifications for both likes and redwables initially.

Updates:

I was working on the notifications and realised it would be easier if users already had profile pictures.

So now..

- While editing profile users can now upload profile pictures seamlessly without refresh.
- The upload is automatically cropped to the correct 1:1 ratio.
- Before upload is completed users can use a cropping tool to edit their photo.

I've still got to add a display pop-up/modal for when the profile picture is clicked publicly. It's on my long to-do list.

In addition:

- The top central logo has been replaced by the "D" of Dwable thumbnail. This is intended to be less intrusive and also easier to integrate into smaller display devices.

Evening all,

I have completed the notifications page for Likes and Redwables!

It's currently not linked in the header so they can be viewed when logged into the demo at: https://dwable.com/notifications (https://dwable.com/notifications)

I had a good think about the structure to use for the notifications and came up with the following:

- It will bunch all of your Likes/Redwables for any particular Dwable into one 24 hour period (specifically a day in UNIX) notification.
- After that day has passed, all new Likes/Redwables shall be in a separate notification.
- I decided that if you Like/Redwable a Dwable of your own it will not be included in the notification stream.
- If you're still confused just ask.

Currently I have only integrated historic scroll search through notifications. Therefore you will need to reload the page to see new notifications. Once all the different notification groups have been identified and coded in I will add the automatic update.

P.S the grey bar at the top is just a placeholder for now. In the future I intend to use it as a toggle between different notification type feeds.

I've started development on replies and mentions. This is a big section so may take some time but I'm trying to speed things up.

After that's all done and I've polished off the current features, I intend to open registration (depending on whether I switch out or upgrade the current usersystem for security reasons).

Right. I've been working away on updates the last few days.

- Added Dwable replies
- Added reply 'threads'
- Added the ability to Dwable in threads
- Added automatic scroll to Dwable selected in threads
- Added mentions to notifications (currently now likes, redwables & mentions)
- Lots CSS changes
- Other minor code changes

There are a few limits at the moment:

- You won't see the "In reply to ..." on users profile Dwables as this will be in a different section later on. You can still click on them to open the reply thread.
- The reply threads are limited to 6 Dwables above and below the selected Dwable. I'm working on adding a loading script so that it loads more on scroll seamlessly.
- The notifications page will show the last 20 notifications. This also needs a loading script.

I've spoken to several interested parties recently who have reached out and offered to help.

I would like to help or take part in what ever way you need.  I saw a thread for that SteemIt site a while back and thought the concept of getting paid in BTC to microblog was great. There are sites that pay FIAT that have been around forever.  I just don't think that the Steem Team went the right track and it does not work well.  Again, I like your concept, love the idea and I am here in what ever manner you need, just PM me.

I also want to make sure any early supporters/helpers are rewarded for their efforts. I'm still working on the economics in the back of my mind (cryptocurrency/ico's/legal compliance <>/possible equity/incentivisation/inflation/supply etc) but focus is on the platform development right now :)

I like this idea and I want to be part.  A quick question.  I see that you are still building the site and the system.  What if you used a pre-built social framework, like Dolphin, I only picked that because it jumped to mind, and simply add the payment system to that.  Scripts like Dolphin and the others are built ready for addons and expansion and that might mean a lot less headache for you.

I started with a very simple opensource usersystem script. It's a good suggestion and I did actually look at opensource social scripts. However a-lot of them appeared very over complicated to me or were using a structure/language that I was unfamiliar with or would find hard to build/edit on. Likewise nothing was really exactly what I was looking for. Dolphin for example I would also have to spend time going through scrapping the redundant features and converting all the PHP code to fit into the new desired layout, whilst also still coding the majority of features so that they were the way I wanted them. I get what you're saying though.. there have been times I've been coding and felt like restarting and finding something already done.

On that subject I do intend to update the usersystem by back-porting a new upgraded script but I'm going to do that later. I really want to focus on features now.

Thanks guys, overall the support from people has been really positive. I'm focused on getting the main features working but once that's done I'll definitely start reaching out to those who have contacted.

- Main profile feed no longer display replies
- "Dwables & Replies" feed now set up with history and load in

More updates (edited):

- Changed the temporary loading message to a rotating icon with css changes. Likewise when it's reached the end of results it will display the grey Dwable logo.
- Added a quick fade on all pages.

The coding goes on..

It is just a thought and there is nothing at all wrong with your site as it sits now.  I just know that after finishing the initial site you then have that fun phase of weeding out the kinks as people take advantage of things and either outright steal from you or try.

I'm keeping many attack vectors in mind as I code. Still I'll want to get it security audited by professionals before any significant crypto integration.

A pre-made site framework should have dealt with all of that for you.  No matter what, I am here if you need help, testing, or anything.

To a certain extent, yes. A-lot of that was why I built up from a pre-existing usersystem script. However even that had some vulnerabilities which I've patched.

Updates:

- Rebuilt the landing page to make it more simplistic, optimised it better for smaller devices, updated graphics and added the 'in-site' header.

I was wondering if you could set the pages to "fit" screen on smaller devices instead of a clockwise rotation of pages everytime i move my finger on the page.

Edit: bitcointalk has the same problem, maybe its because im using chrome browser on mobile.

Recent updates:

After a-lot of learning and hundreds of lines of jQuery later I have implemented a seamless client-side character checking & counting text field. This will also disable the post button upon excess of 150 characters and highlight any additional characters over that limit.

This was a-lot more complicated than first thought. So many little issues like copy and paste, other command/control functions, making it seamless (without delay) etc.

This update is yet to be applied across all pages and on thread replies.

I still have a-lot left on my list so the work continues..

Recent updates:

Mainly just applied the previous updates post field changes to all pages and to Dwable reply threads.

I also fixed a few bugs/extras I found with it like:

- All white spaces were not going down a line (CSS fix).
- Added jQuery to delete content, disable post button and reset character count again when modal is closed on reply threads.
- Caret issues.
- Etc

A few other minor bug fixes as-well.

I had a look at a major user system upgrade but instead decided it would be more efficient just to pick features and backport them individually.

I have coded in a feature which will create a little red circle above your notification link in the header whenever you recieve a new notification. This will remain displayed as your browse accross different pages and reset when you visit the notifications page. It will display a number corrosponding to the number of notifications outstanding.

Other changes include minor CSS edits (you might need to 'hard' refresh for these to take effect).

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is getting ready for the New Year!

I have been busy the last few days researching various things.

I have decided to significantly change the platforms design going forward.

Right now the back-end is very cluttered (if you could see it). This will help clean a few things up.

It will also help give the platform a more unique/modern look. I intend to integrate an additional sidebar navigation for larger displays.

I apologise for the lack of progress but I have been hampered as of late. I hope that after NY I will be able to sit down and dedicate myself to the project. As always I appreciate any support, especially those who have logged into the platform and expressed this ;)
