Title: What do you think would happen if all drugs became legal?
Post by: mk3000 on August 11, 2016, 01:36:45 AM
I read somewhere in the the forum that after the silk road bust, online drugs sales has actually increased. so that got me wondering, what possible outcomes do you see if all drugs became legal? do you think that would make society better? worse? same?

Lol.  It would make the society better for those who were into drugs.  But people who were against it will be in total chaos.  It would be the end of the world.  Rape here, murder there, crimes everywhere.  Illegal drugs were prohibited because of its side effect.  I heard that if people are into it, he/she did not know the difference of reality and imagination.  They are hallucinated, thus killing your own family is what happened next.

If drugs that were prohibited would became legal it would be the end of humans.

Natural selection? The ones stupid enough to do drugs and kill themselves would die and the rest of us will continue living. haha I don't rly know, but if you ask me it wouldnt be any different much. The ones who want to do drugs will find a way go get them and the ones who dont will simply move on with their lives.

The drug price will drop significantly because it easy to get. And there will more parties for drug consumers at all.

No need to speculate. Portugal decriminalized drugs and pretty much every statistic improved. Drug use down. Deaths from drugs down. Drug users seeking help up. Enforcement money is spent on rehabilitation instead, so people end up getting off drugs instead of in the prison system turning into harder criminals.

I see many posters in this thread got it wrong. I understand, brainwashing is hard to overcome.

The war on drugs is a complete failure, unless you happen to be a drug dealer or cop, then it's big money for you. Regular people are less safe thanks to this war on personal freedom.

Trying to determine policy is always a simple exercise. Choose freedom every time if you actually want things to improve.

Thank you for bringing sanity back to the topic. You are 100% right. Furthermore you can add example like Colorado or other US states and the Netherlands... Trust between the cops and the people improves... Simply it's only brainwashed and dumb people or those who profits from it who support the criminalization of a victimless full consent activity.

What ever the risks associated with psychoactive (using the word drug is already a form of conditioning) there are 1000's other activities that are dangerous, like going to the bathroom or the kitchen (2 of the most statistically dangerous places for death in a household).

Then it's important to note that it would free law enforcements resources for non consensual victims full crimes like rapes, killings, thefts, slavery, terrorism etc. it could generate tax revenues and in some cases improves the lives of sick persons.

Another aspect is to cut the financing of those organizations that use the profits from the illegal psychoactive black market to finance other criminal activities and distribution network (forced prostitution, slavery, arms, terror). In certain European countries like France, the England, Germany or Spain I think it's the only solution to win the no go zone back before it's too late...

Then from a religious perspective, the genocide of plants created by God is in itself something very disturbing...

But what ever the political and or society decide the immutable law of business will always prevail: risk = rewards.

One aspect that is missing is the opinions of the Cartels... Most of those organizations will have to lay off a lot of people in the case of liberalization... But from the professionalization efficiency gains, improved quality and cost could still lead to profitable business... The problem is that those going to be layed off are the most efficient to operate on a black market settings... Not easy to fire.

i think quite an amount of the CIA budget/US american black budget comes from drug money - so as far as they wont find another source it will go on :)

Again this is a big misunderstanding... The CIA has plates, papers and inks to print what ever that exists in the world... And with a little help form the guys in the black cube they can put it in almost every database ever created... So don't worry much about that.

The drug mafia will lose their job.

Once liberalized conversion into public traded companies... And reconversion for the staff necessary for the black market condition... Logistics what ever... Maybe a fair tax to clean all the previous gains and reinsert the money directly into the economy. Less hassle, more transparency and accountability. The problem for them is when the giant Philip Morris and co start in the liberalize psychoactive market... Competition is going to be though.

Prevention, medical issue (like food addiction) > prohibition.

Well, Cannabis should be legal in all countries..
LSD, AMF and all the other synthetic drugs that has no possitive and controlable effect should be decriminalized.

If you were caught with that shit, you should have 2 options.

Get help or be punished.

Certain people destined to fuck up would suddenly find it an awful lot easier. Plenty more people locked into a corrosive cycle that they don't particularly want to be in would stop fucking up.

Vast amounts of money would be freed up. Armies would have less to do. Violent buggers would have less to do as well. Millions of lives would be spared strife and destruction.

The same argument that the prohibitionists used with an other psychoactive, alcohol... Another point not to forget is that it's always possible to try liberalization and if it goes like you believe to reverse it.

What would happen if all drugs became legal- referring to illegal drugs of course.  This earth would be like heaven.   ;D  Heaven place for criminals, rapist, terrorist, holdups, prostitutes, and the like.  And hell for those who didn't use it.   We know the effect of illegal drugs like methamphetamine and cannabis.  With abusive use of large dosage people will be transported into another world.  A world where fantasy became reality, thus, sometimes they see their victims as an animal or a devil.  Then crime will happened eventually.  If all drugs became legal, maybe after a month, human extinction will follow, and it would be a better place to live in for animals, insects, and plants.   ;D

It's funny. You post this because you want to make it seem like legalizing drugs is insane, yet you've unwittingly made a very strong point for legalization.

What you apparently fail to realize that is drugs like flakka exist because of the war on drugs. Some entrepreneurs mad scientists realized that instead of dealing with the risks of the illegal drug trade, they would just synthesize up a new batch of stuff that isn't on the DEA's list yet. Since these guys typically aren't your model citizens, they also mix the shit with pretty much whatever they want, which leads to a whole slew of problems from adverse side effects to straight up toxicity.

The point is, if "normal" drugs were legal, people could get their hands on the high quality, high purity drugs they were actually after, and there wouldn't really be a market for stuff cooked up in some tweaker's basement lab. No need for flakka when you can go down to the corner store and buy some cheap, potent cocaine. Recreational drug users don't want to die, fight the police, or turn into brain eating zombies, they just want to blow off some steam and have a good time (just like anyone who goes to happy-hour after work).

Anyone who thinks prohibition is a good idea should study the US's alcohol prohibition in the 20s and before long you start to realize that while prohibition isn't ever going to end the demand for a certain good, it will most definitely make everything surrounding the sale and use of that good significantly worse. Flakka is akin to bathtub gin. Guess what happened to the bathtub gin market once prohibition ended.

I think once all drugs are legal the prices will start to fall. You don't need to buy your drugs in a dark alley anymore. You can just go to a store. There will be also less criminals involved with the drug when it can be legally imported in a country.

We will probably see more legalization if the weaker drugs.

Worse, a little. But almost the same.
Because people won't use drugs just because they became legal.
A normal person knows that these drugs won't do any good to his body that's why it has become illegal in the first place.

It would just increase pressure drastically within society because there would be more at stake for both drugs dealers and drug users. Drugs are a means of escape for some people, it allows them to deal with the insanities of modern society and let off steam/pressure which would otherwise remain trapped within society.
Laws within an imperfect world cannot afford to be too strict because if they are, people start to feel like trapped animals and behaviors become a lot more unpredictable.
If you cut off all breathing holes like petty crimes from society by for example enforcing the death sentence for every little thing, sooner or later the build up of negative energy/pressure would lead to something much worse than all of the smaller crimes combined.

it will be worse if people don't use it wisely. as long as I see, the negative effects of drugs is more than the positive effects. drugs affect your health, your brain, and sometimes make people do crimes, kill, etc.

besides, when you try drugs once, you want it more and more. it will make you lose your consciousness. and voila, you will see many crimes around.

I think nothing would change much.. I mean, whoever wants to use drugs - they already use them. I think society will even become better, considering the fact, that lots of people, especially teenagers, take drugs only because they are prohibited and that is one of the most attractive things about them.

how can i imagine this will be happened  :-\
first our world is full of pain and diseases that is why we should heal it and society from those problems not to heighten it.
people in all the world  should fight this Phenomenon of drugs abuse to decrease the number of drugs taking, second if drugs became legal , all people will be addicted and drugs will be sold in the street and everywhere .. and undoubtedly young people and teenagers are going to be the mainly damaged from that, which augment the correption in society ....
and the world will get more and more worse because such laws that may threaten human race because of the increased number of dead  by over dose.. and in our world many people are suffering from drugs and like this permission their number will grow quickly and then whatever they do, laws will not be enough to control the selling dangerous drugs to youngs that absolutly would make society very worst

All drugs are lawful right now. If you want to be part of a system that makes them illegal, then for you they are not legal.

When you look around the world, there are many places you can go where government won't even bother you with the illegal. But if you want to use drugs at home, simply keep them locked up so that they are inaccessible to others, and then they are even legal for you.

Of course, if somebody from government tells you that they are illegal, and you want to believe government people... your choice.

I am not sure whether the usage will go down or not. But these will happen:

1. Number of deaths from overdose will be close to zero
2. Drug users may not need to use toxic alternatives, when they could not find the real stuff
3. The prison population will decline.

Very well said :D *clap. Yup thats really the point of that. If we are talking to the drugs that is using for self pleasure or anything then it could brought worse events but if we use it in a proper way then it would cause a very good effect to you. Legal drugs then lot of the youth uses it then it can break the dreams and futures...

We don't have to think we already know what will happen.

Portugal Decriminalized all drugs in 2001. Here is an article (https://mic.com/articles/110344/14-years-after-portugal-decriminalized-all-drugs-here-s-what-s-happening#.MRnCy4bbe) explaining why and what happened after.

It would be the end of the world.  Crime here crime there crime everywhere.  Those drugs were illegal because of what it can do to its host.  Humans can do outrageous things as they see the world as an imagination.  It would be the end of humans as everyone will just kill just like that.

What would happen if drugs became legal? People would forget the more dangerous alcohol, and use the drugs instead.

Then the alcohol companies would die out, and the few people who wanted alcohol would make their own wine at home.

When the alcohol industry turned away from booze, all the things in manufacturing that use alcohol to make their products would go up in price. Everything in the economy would turn upside down.

I wonder if the alcohol industry and the government realize this?

It would be the end of the world.  Crime here crime there crime everywhere.  Those drugs were illegal because of what it can do to its host.  Humans can do outrageous things as they see the world as an imagination.  It would be the end of humans as everyone will just kill just like that.

This is why we say that a little learning is a dangerous thing.

If the drugs are legalized, then the crime rate will fall steeply, and the prison population will decline by a good amount. Most of the crime in the world is fuelled (either directly or indirectly) by the drug trade. If the drugs are made legal, then the drug gangs will cease to exist, and violent battles between law enforcement officials and drug peddlers will end.

I think they are just thinking that killing those drug dealers or drug lords is the solution or they are just trying to push drug lord to stop selling those drugs.. so that people addicted to drugs will not doing bad things..

I don't think so. In countries where drugs are legalized, the percentage of the population which use them went down (although only slightly). A perfect example is Portugal, where a decline in heroin addiction was observed after the legalization. I don't know why this happened. One possible reason would be the absence of drug gangs, who encourage teenagers and youth to take drugs.

I shall remind you that drugs were legal once.
It was legal to buy and smoke pot, and even opium was legal. There were places were you could legally smoke opium in many big cities, but governments have chosen to close down all those businesses instead of regulating them.

Stop churning out BS. Portugal legalized all drugs in July 2001. Fifteen years have passed and there has been a reduction in the deaths attributed to drug overdose. Also, there has been a reduction in HIV incidence among the intravenous drug users. And there was a sharp reduction in drug use among adolescent Portuguese.

I read somewhere in the the forum that after the silk road bust, online drugs sales has actually increased. so that got me wondering, what possible outcomes do you see if all drugs became legal? do you think that would make society better? worse? same?
Society would become healthier for sure.
Many people are taking synthetic drugs ( which are more dangerous than the regular ones)  because they are legal.
Anyway that will happen in some time, people just have to open their eyes wide.

This is exactly what the drug cartels and the pharma giants want you to believe. Don't write that "we know that the drugs are very dangerous for life". Instead write I believe that the drugs are very dangerous for life. How much do you know about drugs? Do you really believe that Cannabis is more dangerous than tobacco?

If drugs that were prohibited would became legal it would be the end of humans.

nope. it wouldn't make the society who are into drugs better. even they use it, drugs is still bad for our body. we can't consume it in high dose.

I just see destruction if drugs become legal. why not? drunk people are everywhere, crime are everywhere, murderer are everywhere, etc. it's just a worst world then.

Title: Court bans DOJ from prosecuting medical marijuana users, growers

In a BIG Win for government taxation...

Court bans DOJ from prosecuting medical marijuana users, growers (http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/News/202397-2016-08-22-court-bans-doj-from-prosecuting-medical-marijuana-users-growers.htm)

https://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Uploads/Graphics/693-0822071754-med-mary-jane.jpg (http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/News/202397-2016-08-22-court-bans-doj-from-prosecuting-medical-marijuana-users-growers.htm)

Supporters of medical marijuana have gained an important victory with a federal appeals court ruling that prohibits the Department of Justice (DOJ) from prosecuting medical marijuana growers and users if no state laws are being breached.

A unanimous decision by the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals prevents the DOJ from using federal funds to prosecute those who grow, sell or purchase marijuana, despite the fact that marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

The decision has effectively upheld a 2014 congressional budget ruling that protects states from the DOJ if they try to prevent them "from implementing their own state laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana."

"If the federal government prosecutes such individuals, it has prevented the state from giving practical effect to its law," wrote Circuit Judge Diarmuid O'Scannlain, member of the three-judge panel.

Ruling favors states' rights

The ruling is not only a significant victory in favor of states' rights, but also for 10 defendants prosecuted under federal marijuana laws who were seeking an appeal.

The 10 defendants – all from Western states in the Ninth Circuit's jurisdiction – were either indoor growers or medical marijuana store owners. The defendants will now be subject to lower court rulings determining whether they were in compliance with state laws before their charges can be dropped.

The decision should be viewed as only a temporary victory, however. Judge O'Scannlain warned that the ruling does not provide immunity from federal laws, and may be rescinded at a later date.

"Congress could restore funding tomorrow, a year from now, or four years from now, and the government could then prosecute individuals who committed offenses while the government lacked funding," O'Scannlain wrote.

But at least some legal experts view the court's decision as a major step towards marijuana legalization at the federal level. Steve McIntosh, a lawyer for one of the defendants, said that the ruling may represent "the beginning of the end of the federal war on medical marijuana."

Considering the fact that medical marijuana is already legal in half of the United States, and that four states have now legalized recreational marijuana use (with nine more states set to vote on recreational marijuana in November), it would appear that maybe it is time for the federal government to stop wasting taxpayers' money putting legitimate businessmen and ordinary citizens in jail for offenses that most Americans do not view as a crime.

Yes there are countries which the use of prohibited drugs are legal like The Netherlands and even prostitution is legal on what I have heard of before.  Our government was strict over the issue of some groups who wants cannabis to be legalized here in our country.  It is because of the medicinal effect of this plant which can help the epileptics.  Some doctors were after this because of the health benefits but strongly said that it would be only legal on the hospitals alike for the treatment of other diseases.

Yes, drug lords would be the happiest people here on earth as they do not need to hide and give some favor to government officials. ;D

Nowadays drugs are sold by criminals. They are not interested in the quality of the drugs and all they want is to make more money. If the government will sell drugs, they could control and regulate sales. So, I think there would be less crime and anarchy. There would be good controls for how sterile the drugs are. The government could set national prices, including tax and inspections, control the ban on advertising and fair costs.

The only reason drugs are sold by criminals is because they are illegal.

If drugs were not regulated by government at all, people would grow their own marijuana at home and we wouldn't have any drug criminals. Oops. I mis-spoke. There would still be the medical drug criminals. But they would be few, because cannabis would cure almost everything.

Drugs that were supremely dangerous could still be regulated. The question is, who determines the definition of supremely dangerous? I mean, some people think marijuana is extremely dangerous. But it is far less dangerous than alcohol which government only regulates so they can get their cut.

I have noticed quite a lot of similarities between Duterte and Shitler... both of them came to power, as a result of scare-mongering tactics. Both of them started to weed out the "unproductive" population (physically handicapped, TB patients, slum dwellers.etc) before attacking their main target (Jews for Shitler, Atheists for Duterte).

well definitely society's not going to get better nor would it remain the same. drugs have such a huge effect on people specially drugs that affect people's well being such as cocaine, heroine, meth and the likes. there's a reason why these drugs are illegal. for one, i think crime would boom in most locations. people who are in these types of drugs become unaware of what they are doing. these drugs are very dangerous to be easily accessible to people.

Title: Re: What do you think would happen if all drugs became legal?

I don't think legalization would lead to more crime, as it would bring all prices down. Come to think of it, there's no reason why cocaine or pot should be more expensive than tea or pepper. Farmers know how to produce for cheap. Yet, if not violent crime, we may see a huge rise in irrational behavior or dangerous driving. The sight of dead stoned people in parks or bus stops may also be unpleasant.

Why would that increase because of drug legalization? Alcohol is legal in most places. And most people know when to use it and how much they can handle. Legalizing drugs won't change anything there for the people who already take them. And looking at the examples of countries that already did it there wasn't a big increase in the number of users.

Quote from:  Flynn
Exclusive — Ret. Lt. Gen. Flynn: Terror-Linked Nations ‘Cutting Deals’ with Mexican Cartels

I talk about this in the book — about the threat in Central and South America from countries like Iran who have organizations like Hezbollah who run a large transnational organized criminal organization which move narcotics and other commodities as well as humans into our country…

I know from my friends in the Border Patrol in CBP that there are… radical Islamist countries, state-sponsored, that are cutting deals with Mexican drug cartels for some of what they call the lanes of entry into our country. And I have personally seen the photos of the signage along those paths that are in Arabic… they’re like way points along that path as you come in. Primarily in this case the one that I saw was in Texas and it’s literally… signs in Arabic… [that say] ‘this way, move to this point’…

This is another reason why trump and all the political class are completely off mark... When trump said he will ban psychoactive... Good luck cutting flow to Manhattan... A little real estate builders believe he will succeed... Dream on dream on.

It's simple: let them have what they want, eventually pay taxes on it (while benefiting from enforced regulation about quality etc) or face the black market... And lose.

Education, information, prevention and seen in a medical perspective vs law enforcement.

This rise of Muslims and radicalized Muslims coming into our country illegally is something that we should pay very, very close attention to.

While Silk Road was operating, the number of drug overdose deaths went down in many western nations. Once it was closed down by the FBI, this number rose once again. Good quality stuff was available on Silk Road, and the dosage was easy to calculate. After the site was closed down, drug users had to source their stuff from the ghetto criminals. Such stuff was mostly counterfeit, and caused a large number of deaths.

Your post is full of BS.

Drugs were never legalized in Philippines.

So your example is ridiculous. On the other hand, Philippines is an ideal example of what happens when the government proceeds with the "war on drugs", rather than attempting to regulate the drug trade. Philippines is not the first example, and it won't be the last. We have good examples from Mexico, Italy, Southern USA, Pakistan.etc.

The user above is right. You are comparing two different situations since the philippines never tried decriminalizing or legalizing drugs as far as i know. What the country is going through is not because of that. With legalization there wouldn't be a place for drug pushers, drug peddlers or drug lords. Most you would have are regulated businesses, not criminals selling the drugs. Decriminalization would help too though there could remain some place for criminality. Though much less than if drugs remain illegal.

WoW this is the first time I read that... What a statement! Do you have any data? So if I graph overdoses and silkroad I will see a down trend until a spike when it was busted?

On the other hand it seems logical.

after the bust of silk root there will be absolutely increase in the online marketing of drugs . this will surely leads to the increase of online sell if drugs became legalized to sell  . i think there should be also a control of online selling retardation plan by the government of these countries .

I have seen in Reddit and other forums of users citing real examples. Guys used to get their stuff from Silk Road. Once that source was gone, they had to depend on the street drug-peddlers. Some of them fell victim to the crimes and many died as a result of counterfeit stuff or overdose. If you ask me who gained the most from the busting of Silk Road, then it is going to be the drug peddlers.

well definitely society's not going to get better nor would it remain the same. drugs have such a huge effect on people specially drugs that affect people's well being such as cocaine, heroine, meth and the likes. there's a reason why these drugs are illegal. for one, i think crime would boom in most locations. people who are in these types of drugs become unaware of what they are doing. these drugs are very dangerous to be easily accessible to people.

Yes it is very dangerous for innocent people as these drug users could  buy  drugs just like an ordinary medicines.  The government would be having a headache if ever prohibited drugs became legal.  Rampant killing of innocent lives like what happens now.  It is just easy to kill if you are hallucinating.  They said you see someone looks like a devil that you would kill it and after you killed the devil you will see that it is your family, a friend, or even a child.

exactly so it's really scary to imagine. though there are some illegal drugs right now that i think we should be open to for studying for medicinal purposes, like cannabis for example. although for the meantime having all types of drugs available for all people would be very dangerous for everyone

I think it would make society worse because then many people would become influenced and addicted to hard drugs, making society not only unpleasant, but dangerous

Immediately will be chaos. And then society is quietly cleansed from biodegradable waste.
