I'm planning on making a trading bot to invest some of these mined coins, but I'm holding on to them for now.

That is very different from buying a stash of BTC for later use (although I admit that if you do it hoping that the price goes up in the long run, you *are* playing the market - as opposed to if you plan on *spending* you BTC). My MacBook is less than ideal too. So I'm looking into ASIC, specifically, Butterfly Lab's BitForce Jalapeno. Sadly, I pay for my electricity :(

Also my work PC is mining with its FX580 card and its 8 cores of CPU... although it only generates about 24Mh/s.

Anyway it was a typo, I meant 24Mh/s on my work PC... my home PC gets about 295Mh/s with my 6870 and my girlfriends is about 280Mh/s :)

Its also not worth investing in FPGA with ASICs around the corner, so I am waiting out the mining thing until ASICs hit. Then Ill reassess!
