Title: How do you generate your Bitcoins?
Post by: emugoo on June 12, 2011, 04:11:10 PM
Obviously most people fall into several categories, so what do you generate the most coins with?

You seem to be missing a category for "I convert other currency into bitcoins through an exchange".

I both mine and speculate. But since my card isn't the best (ATI Radeon HD 5750) I want to focus more on the speculating from now on.

I'd say that equals 100% to 'playing the market', no?

Currently it's mining with my 4870-equipped Desktop and Alienware M17x R3 with a 6970M graphics card. I'm planning on making a trading bot to invest some of these mined coins, but I'm holding on to them for now.

No, playing the market implies trying to make money on the price fluctuations by buying and selling.  That is very different from buying a stash of BTC for later use (although I admit that if you do it hoping that the price goes up in the long run, you *are* playing the market - as opposed to if you plan on *spending* you BTC).

I think so, too. Just started by converting a bit of money into BTC and plan on investing it on one of the exchanges, through which I hope I will participate in a successful mining operation.

I'm casually mining with 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480's and 1 GTS 450 at 280 Mhash/s.  I'm currently getting 95% revenue plus Namecoins... if anyone has a better recommendation than btcguild.com, then please do share!

I was looking for the "I run a ponzi or a ponzi pass thru" option.  ;D

Strictly a Miner right now with a 7950 on water and also a 5850 + 6850 in a dedicated rig

would like to look at other options for inquiring coins in the future!!

I looked into mining, but I've got a rather weak CPU and mere integrated video on my headless Linux box, so that's out. My MacBook is less than ideal too. So I'm looking into ASIC, specifically, Butterfly Lab's BitForce Jalapeno. Sadly, I pay for my electricity :(

Currently mining with my 6870 equipped PC, also my girlfriends PC with a 6870 mines whenever it is idle (i.e. she has left it on doing nothing). Also my work PC is mining with its FX580 card and its 8 cores of CPU... although it only generates about 24Mh/s.

no coins, intrigued, hoping to be an explorative miner soon :P

@Brian Puccio: 24GHash/s is an incredible amount, isn't it?

I think he was replying to me... although where he got that name from I dunno ??? Anyway it was a typo, I meant 24Mh/s on my work PC... my home PC gets about 295Mh/s with my 6870 and my girlfriends is about 280Mh/s :)

pardon for the wrong quote! :)

I get an awful 8Mh/s on my work PC with an i5 core... :(

I'm mining casually using my existing ATI 7770 and playing around with different mining software to learn more for now.
Planning to get more heavily involving in both mining and btc trading once the ASIC hardware comes out (Jalapeno SC pre-ordered!)  :D

I think that the current difficulty (and its not going to get lower) excludes GPU's (certainly for me).  Its also not worth investing in FPGA with ASICs around the corner, so I am waiting out the mining thing until ASICs hit.  Then Ill reassess!

I'm casually mining on my gaming rig, when it isn't gaming.
