Title: GPU mining frame: designing, building and buying
Post by: ps_jb on August 14, 2016, 08:59:51 PM
Having a rig with 6 GPUs will require a rigid open air frame.

It is VERY important for everyone who wants to host a rig in datacenter, so -

Post here:

1) Photos of your rig with description how did you make a frame
2) Life hacks - like using a dish holders for GPU, plastic bottle boxes etc
3) Drawings, parts, places to buy part for frames
4) Places where you can buy already made frames (reasonable prices - not ebay $199 :) )
5) If you can make a frame - post you models here and prices

I know that there are some youtube videos, things to buy of ebay etc - but having them here in one place will help everybodey

i can make a frame, but i'm finishing the new design and then i'll sell it on ebay for 80 euro plus shipping for international only

making it is not that hard but you need a discount price on materials

my old design was this, now i added another bar to sustain the gpu in the middle(half-way through the lenght between the bar on which you can secure them with screw and the other bar from the other side) and some other adjustment

new design not mounted(that white part is in plastic to avoid gpu touching the alluminium, from the bottom)

Hi all

I am finishing the design on a server-style rack compatible 4U chassis, up to 6 vga, and 7 with a non-rack version. (The current versions are compatible with a 5*160W vga rig, due the common atx psu designs limitations).

It's possible that the first version will have a common ATX psu, the following ones instead will have a custom power delivery and cooling, up to 2400W platinum potential (6/7* 300W cards, with 6/7 powered usb risers).

They won't be cheap, especially regarding the shipment, but they are custom units that would triple the density of vga farms, with a totally different approach; they will have a market street retail price (MSRP) inferior to the competition btw, but having also more features and potential upgrades. The latest thermal tests have brought a 7990 to the knees: from 102°C and thermal shutdown to 82.

Main benefits:
- Double Density in opposition to the current rigs
- Heat buildup prevention, no heat spots and very powerful CFM, for the maximum dissipation
- No hassle during installation and mainteance, you can build a rig in 1/5 of the time
- Custom upgrades later on, with a custom power pack at disposal later* and custom fan pack**
- Compatibility with a single 16x PCIE card, so your server can be used as a common, silent, gaming desktop PC**

* 2400W platinum units that will power on also the motherboard (+/- 12V, +5, +3.3)
** you want more compatibility with less noise? You can buy another kind of dissipating units

Base of operations EU, there will be an e-commerce portal where you could even order an entire unit (chassis, power, dissipation and custom cables). Technically also the components, but for now, due third party limitations, it's better to handle what we produce directly.

Hail to the Cryptenergy SRL solutions.

Great design!

What is usual shipping cost to US?

If I make a mining rig, I will probably just cut the mobo mounting out of some obsolete computer and do the same for all the expansion bays

Any examples? Cannot imaging it :)

if i can lower the height to 10cm for the package it will be 25 euro only, plus customs charge, but i'll declare a low value like 20 euro, therefore no customs will be payed

What about shipping it disassembled?

yeah that was the idea, the idea is to mount the base only, and put other parts above it, but last time i did this(i sold 3 already) it was still 13 cm...

I use these for my rigs:

http://spotswoodcomputercases.com/wp/?page_id=8793

They are stack-able and modular.  You can get single or dual PSU versions and they are pretty simple to assemble; and are low cost.

Frame is very strong. Easy to assemble your gpus. Space between cards lets them cool down easily and not too crowded like other models. You can lift your whole rig LOADED with hands anytime when you need to move between rooms or so.

Here is my updated 7 GPU RIG.

More details at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1676763.0

1015 Sol/s
7 MSI RX470s
968 Watts at the wall
68 ave Watts (MSI Afterburner)
57C ave GPU Temp (MSI Afterburner)
49C CPU Temp
1500 Strap
MSI Afterburner settings: 1950 Memory Clock, 1200 Core Clock

My main goal is profitability = W/Hs (less is better)
Previously I was at .97 W/Sols
I am now at .95 W/Sols

To Undervolt I would loose efficiency and hashrate.  I also get more Hs and no Errors/Rejects!  Very Stable as well.  This is with Claymore's v6.0
