Title: Uses for old S3+ chassis?
Post by: gt_addict on August 19, 2016, 04:16:19 PM
Hi guys,

Ive got an old S3+ that's got a dead board. Ive posted in the for sale section but no replies even for spares (I know its an outdated piece of hardware). So I'm curious to see if anyone has managed to repurpose the chassis for anything else?

Pictures are always good if you have them  ;)

You can buy from me 2x S5 blades with screws and springs and controller with all cables.

0.2 BTC shipped in most of the EU  countries .  So you can build S5

Im not after another miner (but thanks for the offer). Already got a "sidehacked" S7LN now  ;D

Just wondering if no one wants it if it could be of use for something else mining related or raspberry pi related etc etc.

Sidehack wanted to do an upgrade board for the S1/S3/S5 but he couldn't get any chips from any manufacturer ... (new gen chip).

I remember the community miner project thread. It's a shame nothing has come of it really.

That they do. But as they have shown in the past they have no interest in selling just chips anymore. I think the ones for s3's were the last where the Bitmain site made clear mention about chip sales.

As for the 16nm chips: no way would they sell them. We've seen the size of a couple new farms going up all to be filled with s9's. Hell, the new one powering up in Labrador will handle up to a 5MW load. Lord know how many more will just be upgrading and such. I have no doubt that those farms have standing orders to-be-filled on a schedule.

Point is, coupled with monthly production caps imposed by TSMC, my crystal ball and goat entrails say that for the foreseeable future all of Bitmain's chip's are strictly for internal use for making full miners.

edit: and let's not forget the B11 or whatever from BW whose 14nm chip is being produced at Samsung's foundry. AFAIK the chip *is* in production but all for BW's farm(s) and maybe other large private sales
