Has anyone vouched for this yet? If it works, I'd like to buy an anonymous phone number.

I was also trying to check how their service work as this one is pretty new type of service for me. Out of curosity i decided to choose small 0.0005 btc plan and sended required bitcoin to address site give to me, it says "Once your payment is detected you will be able to begin using your number.". However even after i sended bitcoin, that page is not refreshing or not giving payment confirmation, i will wait till few confirmation on my bitcoin transactions and see what will happen but seems like there is still few errors in their payment gateway.

Any updates?
Did mobnepal finally get his number, or is there a scam accusation coming?

I read this thread yesterday and was thinking of trying it out, but it looks kinda scammy so far (somebody sent BTC but didn't receive the service, AFAIK)

@mobnepal - Please email us a bitcoin address at hello@dtmf.io (or PM me on here) and we will return your funds (and the txn fee you paid). Please include the details of the original transaction so that we can be reasonably sure that it's you.

We did fix a couple of bugs with payment detection yesterday, but please also let us know which browser you were using, if you don't mind, so that we can make sure we are testing on all browsers/platforms we need to be testing on. There's details on browser compatibility on the FAQ page - using SMS only needs a relatively modern browser but voice uses WebRTC so is a little more restrictive (recent Chrome/Firefox/Edge, no Safari support).

We have a handful of people using it every day on a few different platforms without problems, but for anyone who tries it: please do get in touch via the email address on the site, or post on this thread, or PM me, if you notice any issues. We are of course happy to refund any BTC spent if you encounter any problems.

@dtmf thanks for replying and contacting me i have sended few details and that may be enough for you to send refund.
I also think that was only a bug and i am using latest version of google chrome and actually i waited for 3 confirmation before closing tab as there was no any update at that time. Will try again, thanks again.

EDIT: Got refund from them, thanks @dtmf i will try your service later again and will give my review.

Refund sent. Hope you'll try it out again and have more success this time!

We launched a simple referral system today too. If you use the service and like it, send your friends to
Code:
https://dtmf.io/?referral=(a bitcoin address)
and 10% of any sales made during the browser session they followed that referral link in will be sent to that bitcoin address. Please note, we will batch the payments and send them every three days, as we currently send the referral payments manually to avoid storing private keys on a server. We're working on a solution to automate it (server will create txn proposals which will then be signed offline), but we will probably still batch them to avoid creating a lot of very small payments. We keep a simple log of (amount, referral bitcoin address) so that we can clear up any discrepancies should they occur. We will delete this log periodically; current it is set to monthly. Nothing else is logged.

Hey sbtctalk, we had a temporary issue with generating new addresses for payments (the address gap on the HD wallet got too large because we weren't properly storing unused addresses), but it's been fixed now. Apologies that you were unable to pay, please feel free to try again!

The service has grown in popularity much faster than we expected and we've had some teething problems, but we've been fixing them as we come across them. Thanks for trying it out - it really helps when people let us know if they come across issues!

We built it ourselves (part of the reason we have had a few teething issues with it!). It uses a full node (on a separate machine from the telephony service) which can generate addresses for the HD wallet and monitor them for payments but doesn't have any private keys.

We built it ourselves out of concern that a third-party payment processor may keep logs of which addresses have paid our service, which could potentially be correlated using timestamps with phone records as part of an attempt to deanonymise people who are using our service. It would require multiple avenues of attack but we figured better to be careful.

Just a note, we had to suspend the referral program temporarily while we work around some abuse. We'll honour any referrals already made before 1200 GMT today when we suspended referrals, but none after that time until we re-launch the referral program. The rest of the service is operating as normal!

Title: Re: DTMF.io: an anonymous phone number in your browser

Thanks! We use Twilio, Nexmo and Plivo, as well as a direct link to a couple of carriers. We're trying to be agnostic of upstream provider so that we can switch at will.

We have some exciting things coming up including a way to provide two phone numbers and have both receive inbound calls which then have the audio connected together anonymously through us, so that there is no record of the two numbers calling each other. We'll update on here when this (and our other future developments) are ready to go!

Glad you like it!

We launched our first new feature today: anonymous phone calls between two existing numbers. Just enter two phone numbers, pay 0.005 BTC, and we will call the first number. Once it is answered, we will call the second number and bridge the audio through our system for up to an hour of talk time. Neither number sees the caller ID of the other, and once the call is terminated we have no record that the two numbers were connected.

Another new feature added today - you can pick other time periods than one hour - as short as half an hour or as long as a day. We're still working on long-term rental of numbers.

Are the numbers recycled, or is a completely unique number given to each and every purchase?

They're recycled. It's a economic necessity, otherwise our prices would have to be much higher.

We do cancel and re-purchase all the numbers from our suppliers once per billing period. With most of our suppliers that's monthly.

The next feature we are launching is "permanent" rental of numbers, where we assign you a brand new, clean number and it's yours until you cancel the service. Will post here when that feature is ready.

We're pleased to announce we've just brought an additional provider online, resulting in a 50-60% reduction in prices across the board. Enjoy!

Interesting. With the ratio of the amount of numbers you have and the amount of purchases you get, is it possible to get an estimate for how many times one number will be used?

Right now, for the more popular types, the number you receive is likely to have been used 1-3 times before you get it. This is because we have to handle many simultaneous uses of the more popular types, so we have a larger pool. The pool size for each number type is automated, so the specific re-use count of each type depends on what's popular at the moment. It tends to be the cheap ones, but there is an interesting amount of random variation, sometimes the popularity of a more expensive type spikes for no apparent reason.

I'll look into whether we can publish some real-time stats for each number type.

We're launching dedicated, clean numbers soon.

Most needed services. I guess very much new of this kind with a site for bitcoin payments. Good luck.

How often you do get new numbers. This is the big concern for me now before trying your service.

Will you be ready to refund or provide me another number if the number I am going to rent, had got used for same type of service many times before and I will not be able to use for my turn.

How often you do get new numbers. This is the big concern for me now before trying your service.

Our billing terms with most of our providers are monthly. Just under one month after the number was bought, we automatically release it. Next time a number of that type is needed, our system will purchase a fresh one. So the numbers exchange monthly. If you request a number type and we don't have any available (e.g. at busy times when they're all allocated) we also buy a fresh one. We also have a new service where you can request a pristine number, but it's a bit more expensive (see below).

Will you be ready to refund or provide me another number if the number I am going to rent, had got used for same type of service many times before and I will not be able to use for my turn.

Unfortunately, we can't offer refunds on our standard numbers in this situation. We have, though, just launched "Pristine numbers" which have not been used before (we buy them at the time you purchase them from us, rather than getting them from our pool). They are a bit pricey at the moment though (an extra 0.008 BTC). We're working on bringing that down.

We've improved the service further: month-long rentals (with a recovery phrase in case you clear the cookie we set) of numbers, and the ability to connect two numbers (one of which could be your own) anonymously for shorter time periods - a good way to call people anonymously or make international calls cheaply.

This is awesome!

As far as automating the referral payment, have you considered coinfee (http://coinfee.net/)?

I may give this a try some day.
