You have to deposit to bitstamp then withdraw through ripple. First though you have to trust that amount or more to bitstamp (this requires 50 XRP). Then they'll send you the BTC. After you use bitstamps ripple address as the issuer for BTC (order books, advanced > trade) You go to BTC/XRP exchange. And you'll be able to exchange your BTC for XRP.
And for you to send back the XRP it cost a 0.0001 transaction fee. And if you have less than 200 XRP you can't do anything.
