Soon TM  ;)

Turn around time to getting them to ship out is currently 2-3 weeks as of right now.

Neither, the buyer funds them. I just provide them the XMR coin addresses to fund.

Can you explain the logic behind this?  How will people get the view key for the buyer funded coins?

Pretty sure at one point he ruled buyer-funded coins out altogether, so yes, this is a good question.

Edit - if anyone would like to split a roll with me, funded, shoot me a pm. I will pay in xmr, & you can pay me 1/2 in btc or xmr, we can work it out or use escrow if you wish.

thanks!  :)

The only coins smoothie has ever stated would not be sold unfunded are the silver monero coins(25,50,100).  He appears to be structuring these like his previous offerings but with those coins you didn't need a view key to check if they are funded so there was still the possibility of a secondary market.  Without a way to verify the funds no one is going to buy one of these coins on the secondary market.  I'm wondering if that is his intention or he just overlooked it in this case.

Ok so I'm confused - how can you verify the balance of the silvers without the viewkey? I don't see any difference with these coins, other than they will be loaded with 5 XMR vs 25/50/100?

Thanks! :)

View key exists when the coin address is created. That will be given for any and all coins sold.

The digital certificate has the signed message containing the key images that prove the coin is funded.

Unfunded coins will be marked as such "unfunded" on their holograms. And those coins will not have a digital certificate because there is no funding to prove (with key images).

The secondary market can exist if I make the marking on unfunded coins large enough to see with the naked eye.

You can't prove the balance of a XMR address with just the viewkey. A viewkey only shows incoming transactions not outgoing transactions.

You need the key images signed with the private key to prove funding. Hence the digital certificate.

This is a common misconception.

Yes you can split a roll. Would rather just deal with one person though and one place to ship to.

Is there any way to verify that a given digital certificate belongs to a given coin?
It looks like with the digital certificate, you can check that the outputs are all unspent,
but not that the outputs actually belong to the coin.

If the hash from the digital certificate appeared on the coin (or something like that, perhaps around the edge) then you would
know for certain that the outputs you are checking can actually be spent using the private key under the hologram.

Maybe I'm missing something?  Would be good to know

The digital certificate has the coins serial number.  You could laser or engrave it to the coin somehow but that wouldn't add anything in terms of security and would possibly retract from its aesthetics depending how it is done.

I know, but I could create another certificate saying the same serial number, but with different address and transaction details.  If I then showed both digital certificates to someone I was selling the coin to,
how would they be able to tell which one is genuine?

Adding the hash (or the first 8 characters of the hash, or something) would answer this question without having to open the coin.

It all comes down to the coin and how good of a fake it is.  Adding more information to the coin may or may not make the coin harder to fake depending on how it is done.  How do you propose to add more information to the coin in a way that makes it harder to fake?

I'm not a coin guy, so I don't know what's easy / hard to do and how hard to fake it is.

I would guess engraving characters somewhere visible, or adding them to the hologram are the options.

I'm just saying that at the moment, the digital signature seems easy to fake.

Although in the end it might not be a big deal.  I originally thought that you need the address and viewkey as well as the spendkey to recover the wallet,
which would make having the wrong address / viewkey details pretty bad.  But looking at Monero code just now ( I'm interested in making a vanity address finder ) it
looks like the spendkey is all you technically need.

This only applies to FUNDED coins. Unfunded coins are marked "UNFUNDED" on their holograms prior to shipping and do not have digital certificates provided.

Are you asking this to determine if a fake digital certificate generated would lead a buyer to believe a coin was in fact funded when it was not?

If so, then first, the scammer would need to have already gotten access to the private spend key without showing any noticeable marks on the hologram. This is possible as tamper evident holograms are not "tamper proof". This is stated in my terms and conditions for each sale I make.

Yes someone could create a fake digital certificate, but:

1. If they can already gain access to the private spend key in the manner described above, what's the difference, they would not need to create a fake digital certificate as they would just sell you the coin, and then redeem it right after. No need to fake anything.

2. If they can't gain access to the private spend key, then the coin should be funded.

3. If a coin was redeemed after the scammer gained access to the private spend key in #1 but before it was sold to a buyer, then this is where the digital certificate comes in to play as its whole role is to prove funding of a coin.

Perhaps #3 would require a public list of XMR addresses with associated serial #'s to be published by me in order for verification of a digital certificate is genuine or not (as a starting point).

Since XMR is fairly private, this may not be a problem to do going forward for my XMR coins.

Is this the scenario(s) you are speaking to?

Just so I have a starting point...

Hi Smoothie.  Yes I'm talking about funded coins.  It's maybe a silly scenario, but say:

1) I bought a funded coin from you serial number 999.
2) I completely lost the digital certificate because I'm an idiot.  Crud
3) I want to sell the coin (still not opened in any way) to someone else, but have no digital signature
4) I make a new wallet and deposit 5XMR into it.  I make a new digital certificate:

Code:
HASH:<Hash of my new message>

-------------------------------------------------START------------------------------------------------------
LEALANA PHYSICAL BRASS COIN 5 XMR SERIAL #999

XMR ADDRESS: <MY NEWLY CREATED ADDRESS HERE>

VIEW KEY: <NEWLY CREATED VIEWKEY>
Total # of Outputs:1
************************************INDIVIDUAL OUTPUT INFORMATION*******************************************
key_image: ........INFO GENERATED FROM A 5 XMR DEPOSIT TO MY NEW ADDRESS (NOT COIN ADDRESS)
tx_id: ............ETC
output_public_key: ETC
xmr_amount: .......5.000000000000

------------------------------------------------END---------------------------------------------------------

SIGNATURES:
<A valid signature because I'm using a valid wallet holding valid funds>

5) Some time after selling the coin I withdraw my funds from my wallet, pissing off the new owner (although the coin hasn't been opened so it hasn't lost funds).

It's maybe a strange scenario.  The coin is never opened and I never see the private spend key.

Edit:  I think you addressed my concerns.  Like I said I was a bit concerned because I thought you need Address, viewkey and spendkey to recover the wallet (I believe monero-wallet-cli asks for all of them), but you technically only need the spendkey, since the seed words are an encoding of spendkey, and the whole wallet can be recovered from the seed words.

Simple:

There is no harm in me keeping a copy of the digital certificate as it would not allow me to spend the contents of the coin.

The buyer could request another copy of it from me (assuming I am still alive).

Other solution is to have multiple copies of the digital certificate since it costs basically nothing to make duplicates.

Thanks Smoothie. I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, but this stuff is a bit tricky (interesting at the same time).

I'm hacking around trying to recover a wallet from just the spendkey now because of the discussion :p since simplewallet doesn't seem to let you do it.

That does seem like the best solution.
Alternatively Smoothie could just paste all the certificates in one PGP signed file. That could act as a central database for all the coins and the file could be used to search for specific addresses. That could also potentially be a solution but would mean that all the certificates would have to have been produced beforehand. (It wouldn't work for coins sold at a later date unless he decides to do something similar to Mike in terms of different funding dates).

UPDATE: A large batch of U.S. giveaway coins were shipped out today via USPS first class mail.

An international batch will be shipped hopefully soon. Just more forms to fill out. (some of you have some crazy long addresses  :D)

I've ordered some of these coins now, and have been trying to throw together some code to be able to verify the balance of the coin.

I'm not 100% sure about how the signatures are generated and how to check them.  The code I'm using right now is taken from wallet2::import_key_images,
and I basically check using:

Code:
crypto::check_ring_signature(hash_input, key_image, pkeys, &signature)

In this case the hash_input would be the hash on the digital certificate.

Could you confirm if this is correct, Smoothie?

Looking forward to getting the coins :D

Here is the original function header:
Code:
 bool crypto_ops::check_ring_signature(const hash &prefix_hash, const key_image &image,
    const public_key *const *pubs, size_t pubs_count,
    const signature *sig)

My code to sign and verify(check) is a modification of the create_ring_signature and check_ring_signature functions.

The way it works is it creates a signature of a single output and key image.

The idea is that it operates as a degenerate ring signature (only one output is used in creating the "ring signature")

There is a signature of the message between ---start--- and ---end--- tags for each key_image.

Hash is the hash of the message between start and end tags.

Excuse me if I may have posted something incorrectly, it is 5am in Hawaii.  :)

I may likely have to publish a copy of my code that is used to do the process.

I think that's enough info for me to figure it out.  Thanks for clarifying.

Edit:  After having a look, I think I'm doing the right thing.  In the end only a single public key gets sent to the check / sign crypto_ops functions.  I.e. for this part:
Code:
const public_key *const *pubs, size_t pubs_count
pubs only contains one public_key and pubs_count==1.  So unless you modified the nuts and bolts of the signature generation / checking beyond just sending a single public key (which seems unlikely)
I think it's all good.  Will be interested to test it on an actual digital certificate.

After checking out my brass coins for a bit, I figured I should find out how to prove they are funded using the digital COAs

For anyone wanting to know how to do this:

1. Go here:  http://xmr.llcoins.net/checktx.html
2. On the digital COA, copy and paste the "tx_id" value into the "Transaction Hash" on the webpage form.
3. On the digital COA, copy and paste the "VIEW KEY" into the "Private Key" field, and change the drop-down to "Private Viewkey"
4. On the digital COA, copy and paste the "XMR ADDRESS" into the "Recipient's Public Address" field and hit "Check"

Results should look something like this:

This address doesn't own output 1 with pubkey: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for amount: 0.3
This address owns output          2 with pubkey: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for amount: 5
This address doesn't own output 3 with pubkey: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for amount: 8

The red line proves the coin is funded, as output_public_key on the COA should match the one shown in red.

Cheers! :)

owlcatz,

I think there are a couple more steps to verify that the coin is funded.

The steps you have above show that the coin had 5 XMR deposited to it, but it doesn't confirm that they are still there.

In order to confirm they are still there you need to:

1) Check the signature/s.  This confirms that the listed key image matches with the output public key on the digital certificate.
2) Check the spent status of the key image.

If step 1) was successful and step 2) shows that it is unspent, then the funds are still there.

I believe step (2) can be done on some blockchain explorers but step (1) isn't readily available yet without doing some coding yourself.
I've made a little command line thing for myself which verifies the digital certificates, and if I can tidy it up enough I'll get it up on github or something.

This is pretty much correct ^ as far as I am aware.

That is awesome that you managed to code something for verifying this.

I've had several users already ask me about my code on my end and I am at the same point, still needing to clean it up and release it (the verify/check ring_sig portion of it). The only thing is my code is a hack of an older version of monero within one of the existing files.

Not the most ideal, yeah I know.  :P

Please share what you have when you have it, it would definitely make less work for me (hopefully) and help users of the coins and other physical XMR coins.  ;D

Will do.  The main problem (which isn't actually major) is that I can't get the hashes to match still.  This doesn't affect whether you can verify the
balance of the coin, but it is a bit annoying and is another check which would be nice to do.  I've tried sha256, keccak, cryptonite with the start and end
tags either included / not included.  Extra newlines.  Saving with Windows newline format, unix newline format.

So I'm missing something that someone else might catch if I just put it out there as it is.

Another 'problem' is that it's C++ code using Monero libraries and at the moment only compiles on my machine running Ubuntu 16.04, so it will take
a little bit of work to get it to compile on another OS.  I really have very little clue when it comes to compiling with make or other things (or even github).

Will let people know when / if it's up in a usable form.

Okay so I went through my code on my end to see if I was overlooking anything that gets fed to cn_fast_hash(...) and found nothing really new that hasn't already been shared with you.

There is a '\n' at the end of the END tag line that gets added into the string that is then hashed. For more clarity I am running this on Ubuntu 14.04.

QUESTION: Just to be clear are you able to run your own version of "check_ring_signature" against the information contained in the digital certificate?

If yes, then is your issue mainly about reproducing the hash with the cn_fast_hash(...) function with the input of the digital certificate text?

The hash of the text is used in checking the signature, so if it were incorrect I would assume the check wouldn't work (as in "check out") on my end nor your end. I'm leaning towards this is not the case on your end.

I can check and verify the signatures using the hash that you supply (not the one that I have been producing). The problem is purely with reproducing the hash of the message, which actually is a fairly minor problem.

I was trying cn_fast_hash along with sha256 and cn_slow_hash. Knowing that it's cn_fast_hash helps, so I'll have another go at it.

Thanks!

EDIT: I've updated to use cn_fast_hash.  My hashes now match those given when you enter text into this link: https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/keccak_256.html (https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/keccak_256.html) (by my understanding keccak-256 should be equivalent to cn_fast_hash).  At least, they match when using the text I'm feeding them.  There may just be some obscure issue here.

OK,

Even though I'm still unable to match the hashes, I'm going to post a link to the github repository for verifying digital certificates.  If anyone can get it to compile and work, it will for sure give a warning message about the hashes, but that can be ignored.  It's not particularly important for verifying that the funds are there.  Here is the link:

https://github.com/AwfulCrawler/Physical-XMR-Verifier (https://github.com/AwfulCrawler/Physical-XMR-Verifier)

The Repo includes a tool to produce sample certificates, so it should do something similar to what Smoothie does.  But any difference there is the likely reason why the hashes don't match.

There are some sample certificates in the repository, produced using testnet wallets.  E.g.:

Code:

Can you pick the SN's contained in a roll or are they randomly selected?

I may also be interested in splitting a roll if someone is on the fence about getting a whole one.

I don't believe you get to choose, but I never asked - I split a roll with someone a few months back, and they were all random, but still at least under #500, so that was cool.

Also, I sent 4 into ANACS and they all came back graded MS69, so that was a nice surprise as well. :D

I've read the whole post but it is kinda confusing. Do we fund these coins ourselves before you send them out? (I don't want it to say unfunded). Does it have to be 5 XMR?

Thanks.

Lealana 5 XMR Brass Redemption Experiment:

Today I received the coin I'm going to peel.

I looked up the instructions:

Quote
How would one redeem a LEALANA PHYSICAL MONERO (XMR) coin?
1. Peel back hologram exposing base64 private spend key
2. Convert base64 key to hexadecimal
3. Run the following (syntax may vary for different operating systems):
        a. ./simplewallet --generate-from-keys <yourwalletname>
        b. Input standard address (xmr address)

        c. Input hex spend key (from step #2)

        d. Input hex view key (from file or COA)
4. In order to spend/transfer them you will need to make sure your daemon is up to date on the monero main net.

Then realized....

I can't redeem it without:

1. The coins XMR address
2. The view key for the address from the COA.

What this means: (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong)!!!

1. In my case, I have neither, as I received this from another forum member to help me test it - I am waiting to find if he has this information.
2. Anyone with a slabbed coin or otherwise, and DOES NOT have a paper or digital certificate for the coin #, will not be able to redeem it...  (This is not good as I have seen many coins around the forum that people don't have COA's for, and the last 2 rolls of brass coins I purchased, I was never offered the certs, I had to ask, so hopefully anyone else out there got theirs as well).

.... Update coming soon!!! Thanks!!

Lealana 5 XMR Brass Redemption Experiment:

Today I received the coin I'm going to peel. Brass #686

First, I looked up the instructions that smoothie put on the OP of the silver coin thread.

Then, I realized I didn't have all the info I needed like view key and coin address, just the private key.

I posted about this earlier, then Hellot was kind enough to post this link - https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/4570/i-have-a-private-key-for-a-monero-address-which-application-lets-me-load-in-a-c/4572

So, that brings me to the full instructions now that I have gotten through the stupidity of my brain and typos! :P

1. Peel the coin
2. Convert the Base64 key to Hexadecimal (DO THIS PART OFFLINE!!!) - (Google is your friend).
3. Download this zip file https://github.com/luigi1111/xmr.llcoins.net & Extract it anywhere, and then load site/addresstests.html in a browser
4. On the top of the page, paste your Hexadecimal string you got from step 2 into Field 2. (Hexadecimal seed)
5. Click on the "Gen 1." to get the mnemonic seed

Ok, now that we have all that done, let's go back to smoothie's original instructions:

Quote
How would one redeem a LEALANA PHYSICAL MONERO (XMR) coin?

4. In order to spend/transfer them you will need to make sure your daemon is up to date on the monero main net.

At this point, we have all the info we need to do all of this starting with step a, however, it's much easier to restore from the mnemonic seed, IMO, so let's do that instead and save some time and headaches:

Note, "simplewallet.exe" is now called "monero-wallet-cli.exe" (I'm on windows for this example, apologies).

Now, we will simply use monero-wallet-cli.exe --restore-deterministic-wallet, hit enter, give the wallet a name, then paste or type the 25 mnemonic seed when you are prompted.

Quote
C:\Users\me\Desktop\monero-gui-0.11.0.0>monero-wallet-cli.exe --restore-deterministic-wallet
Monero 'Helium Hydra' (v0.11.0.0-release)
Logging to C:\Users\me\Desktop\monero-gui-0.11.0.0\monero-wallet-cli.log
Specify a new wallet file name for your restored wallet (e.g., MyWallet).
Wallet file name (or Ctrl-C to quit): new.bin

Specify Electrum seed: unveil oxxxx xxxx xxxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx etc etc etc
Enter new wallet password: *
Confirm Password: *

Your wallet has been generated!
To start synchronizing with the daemon, use "refresh" command.
Use "help" command to see the list of available commands.
Always use "exit" command when closing monero-wallet-cli to save your
current session's state. Otherwise, you might need to synchronize
your wallet again (your wallet keys are NOT at risk in any case).

PLEASE NOTE: the following 25 words can be used to recover access to your wallet. Please write them down and store them somewhere safe and secure. Please do not store them in your email or on file storage services outside of your immediate control.

I'm sure this could be adapted for use with the GUI, however, I don't have time for that. I have to now send the 5 XMR back to the friend who sacrificed his coin for this test. ;)

Huge Thanks go out to user comit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=917493) for sacrificing his coin for this experiment! If anyone has anything to add or fix, let me know! :)

Thank you for doing this owlcatz, and for the clear tutorial!

I think a lot of us - including me - will be secretly relieved. :D

No, thank you for sacrificing such a nice coin, it's a shame actually, but good to know we can redeem them without any COA's etc etc.

After I got the CLI wallet set up, I simply typed save, then I opened the GUI and just opened that wallet's *.keys file and voila, it opened in the gui just perfectly. I try and keep things simple and just use one single character for a wallet password. I'm reaching the point where I'm so confident with my monero wallets that I don't even worry about corruption like with BTC. I can always restore from the mnemonic seed, without fail.

Thanks again, hope you got the XMR back to your account minus the fees! :P

I'm going to auction off the coin now. Cheers! :D

I normally don’t buy coins outside of BTC versions but this coin is really cool. I am interested in buying one if anyone is willing to sell. Thx!

I think I would blow out a blood vessel if smoothie came back and offered .999 silver Monero coins in lower denominations (>1) with COAs.

A project like that would absolutely blow my mind.

Always a day late and a dollar short. I'm sure he's coming back someday with something awesome. Those Monero bars he made last year with the Samurai are awesome. Thanks for the info, I'm going to read through that thread.

I'm not so sure.  He caught a lot of flack for those bars (while being beautiful) for being basically a copy of Kialara's to the T but with his own design.  He was quite rude about things the entire time, he refuses to help anyone out with past product sale questions ets.  The last time I messaged him after sending him a sizable order he never responded back.  Would it kill him to at least say "sorry we've sold out" or whatever.  Quite frankly I'm done doing any business with him as I don't appreciate the way he treats his customers or perspective customers.   I also don't like that he doesn't produce the pub-key list like many vendors do.  If he ever reads this my suggestion would be to treat people better, it's not hard to do man.

Since i have never done business personally with him I cant have an opinion on that. I have heard that from others, everything your saying. I think part of it may come down to flying under the government radar. Ive been to Hawaii, they hate us over here, maybe he hates mainlanders, lol. Whatever the reason his elusiveness leads to rarity of product. I firmly believe his coins will be the greatest collectable someday. I almost hope he goes back to BTC coins. Easier to verify and manage. I hope he realizes with a little bit of organization he's sitting on a legit business that could be a goldmine someday. I do hope everyone gets treated with respect, good point Chi

I've done a lot of business with him over the years off and on ofc like everyone else since 2015 or so... He's always treated me quite well, but I'm guessing because I don't fuck up or cause drama/bs, and I'm also prompt on payments and loading, as I know the faster I get it done, the quicker they ship etc etc.

He has always been a fierce privacy advocate, so I don't fault him for not listing his public addresses or giving info to others about re-sold coins, as if you have done business with him, you've probably read his TOS LOL....

I also always knew he was quite long on XMR even before it was worth a dollar, so kind of expected something, just not those awesome silver 3-coin sets right when XMR mooned lol... 🤷‍♂️

He also made me an awesome rainbow blank .25 on my last order of rainbow nickels and dimes, so no complaints here (and no, no hologram sorry lol :P )

https://i.imgur.com/gjAk9GBm.jpg

Lastly, he promised me a copy of the first issue of KIZEKRA comics last year, supposedly due out this year, but my PM's and emails to him have gone unanswered like everyone else nowadays...

Anyhow, that's typical smoothie I think.... He takes off on vacation/holiday or whatever, and lets shit build up then is probably like wtf, how can I possibly reply to all this crap lol? :D

IDK, I've always been a huge fan of his coins, and remember his weekly auctions he used to run for rolls of lealana dimes when 0.1 btc was like 50 bucks ... Damn I wish I had a time machine! :D

JMO OFC 🤷‍♂️

Edit - the bars he made are really one of a kind, despite the thing about Max/Kialara - Smoothie went super far on the packaging as well as the rainbow steel plates showing the certs etc... Simply beautiful stuff that nobody is ever going to resell, just like the King Kahemena coins we NEVER see for resale here! :D

Yeah he makes some amazing stuff, the King K is one of my all time favorite coins period, crypto or not ( I have standing offer of one kidney for a set of these  :D ).  What really burns my buns is I was on the forum when he released it, but I was a noob and had no clue what I was doing or what was good to buy or not.  I can still feel the kick in the nuts for not having bought those to this day lol.  I hear ya owl, sweet custom coin! My thing is I wish he'd treat people a little better, doesn't take too much to be friendly.
