Two weeks ago btc was around 640$, yesterday I checked and it was 705$ and today it's 720$.. It jumped up for 80$ in period of just a couple of weeks. What are your thoughts? Will it continue to rise like this, at what point will it stop going up and whats the cause of the sudden price jump

Nope actually today the price value of the bitcoin is 750$ as preev by today. I guess this price pump continuously increasing till Christmas or New year. Then price will drop a bit. So utilise this situation and have profit in the trade.

Currently it's price is 736$, so if you have sell a bit and buy later. Currently due to festive season it may rise. Then ahead it will slip, then rebuy. Or just hold till you can.

It's related to altcoins with one way or another , If you look at CoinMarketCap (https://coinmarketcap.com/) you will notice that each time Bitcoin goes UP , altcoins goes Down there is only a few of them that keep the price or increase with BTC too and same thing when BTC goes down , the alts goes up.

Absolutely nobody can give you an answer to your question  :-\  in my opinion the price of bitcoin will increase massively in the long term but who knows in the short term, it could be 600 by Friday depending on news or events or it could 850  ???

This is natural for bitcoin price movement, just like rollercoaster.
The cause price move up is there's buy action and otherwise. The wider cause price up is the demand is more than supply, this is why if halving time coming there are a jump price.

Yup agree that bitcoin price will not speculate easily because always bitcoin price value getting changed in the market. Most of the time Price chart seems to cris cross in the view. Better hold as much you can now and sell it later.

There is not any good reason behind this huge price pump however volume seems to be coming from china, so may be they are buying again and we have also seen late year price pump before also so this price rally may continue till end of this year.

Talking about price correction, actually few days ago price was near 720$ and it get corrected a little bit to 690$ range and than pumping again. So i think we have to wait $750 to see another small price correction. This pump seem really strong so correction may not be big like before.

My guess it that another bubble is coming. Oh wait. We're in the bubble now. Congrats, we are all now in the history of Bitcoin hitting 1000 USD mark. Well, hopefully.

I think that Bitcoin price will continue to increase at this rate and will stop at a certain point. Unless there is another hacking incident or bad news about Bitcoin, the price should be rising for the next few months.

The price will increase rapidly because of 1 reason; Supply and Demand.

21 million coins for 7 billion people! Even with the slightest demand the price will shoot up with tens ore hundreds of dollars, and this coming bull-run is not even the mainstream run  :o

Actually last week I heard there was another hacking incident where a Polish bitcoin exchange, Bitcurex got hacked and lost about $1.5M so it has to close down.

It seems the hacks occur anytime bitcoin pumps - the whole thing is starting to look staged somehow... :-\

So that did happen. It showed up a little in the latest bitcoin news but for only a day. Looks like it did not affect the price if it was even noticeable.

Reasons have been extensively decided, and no precise one was found yet. However, what I can say is that someday it will fall down, that isn't a definitive rise like we saw in November 2015 and June 2016.

This is just a nature of bitcoin that the price will increase and decrease and i think some people out there are satisfied what the price right now and sooner it can affect the price soon and it will be back to normal soon..

Price is pumping from few weeks continuously and even don't get much deep when reaching $700 which was predicted by lots of members including me. But this time i think price really wants to breath some fresh airs so we may see very good price before any correction. No correction seems to be there soon...

Past performance can't be a basis accurately for a future output especially in bitcoin price.

Fall down might not be the appropriate term but rather price decrease and it's normal that whenever there's a price increase it's always accompanied by a price decrease so obviously it will happen. We just don't know when. Like to see how the price will support it's stand at above $700. Hopefully the status of range at around $700 will be the same as the range when the price is around $600.

Looks like the trend started has been on a success. Let's see how far it will goes.

i don't think the halving have anything to do with this anymore, i think they are just pumping this like they do most of the time, to me this look a return to the main, i mean it's not a crazy pump it's just a correction toward a possible uptrend

I think the is still the effect of halving because the supply are reduce to 12.5 btc per block that is why the price is increasingly fast unlike before..
So more adoption will come more price will increase since bitcoin are more popular unlike before..

Its really something good to see but the issue has always been how sustainable will it be? I have also been keen about the movement in the last couple of days and is just so surprising to see the rapid increase in price within a twinkle of an eye. Whether halving or not, whether pumping or dumping, I dont understand the technicalities surrounding that all I want to see is increase in value of what I have yesterday, and being it sustainable...

One thing that I doubt is that it is a pump and dump. The net is very large to be manipulated. It's not a kinda currency like ETH or XMR. Even these currency, they're in the beggining of "life", so not so much giants are with it in their hands, and the acceptance is very small comparing with Bitcoin. Now, many markets are investing big cash and the development of blockchain is taking bitcoin together. So that's it.

We are experience of fast price increase this past few days and until now and i think this is because of segwit added..
Or this it is just nature of bitcoin the same as last year price increase if we compare the same fluctuate and i think more price will reach soon..

Increase in price of bitcoin is continuing due to the increasing adoption as well the increase in usage of bitcoin as a currency and a investment. None can make exact prediction about the price increase and decrease.

I think this is because of the halving which will end few months from now.. so  lucky are the ones who have kept there bitcoins in their wallets. Few days from now i bet the price will probably reach to 750 to 800 USD..  hopefully. Then probably that would be the best time to convert our bitcoins to dollars..

The price stayed at the $600 level for a period of over three months before it suddenly surged to over $700. We could be hitting the $800 before the year ends, something that has not been reached in a while now. Glad that this increase is due to really positive developments from bitcoin and not something that's done to pump the price.

Some reasons behind recent price rise:

1. SegWit is implemented in latest version of BitcoinCore. Miners will start signaling readiness to accept and activate it soon.
It is the biggest and the most crucial update to bitcoin protocol up to this date. Once activated it will be huge improvement to the Bitcoin network.

2. Overall positive news about Bitcoin i.e. Swiss railway Bitcoin adoption.

3. Chinese Yuan decline, last week we noted the biggest Yuan's price drop since 2015 Yuan's devaluation, hence Chinese investors and speculators are locating money in bitcoin.

Agreed, previously when price reached to $780 it was only because of the halving as people started to buy bitcoins hoping that price will touch $1k at the halving but it crashed after that but current movement suggests that price will stay above $700 for a long time as people are now genuinely investing their money into it to take benefits in long term.

Not  only  you  have the question regarding  with these thing  but  most bitcoin users  ask the same thing too   regarding  on the sudden price  increase of bitcoin  on past few weeks. No one  really knows  but   theres  news that  chinese are accumulating  large  amounts of bitcoins thats surely affected the  bitcoins price.

actually it was not the natural fluctuation of the bitcoin . but still the price is not reached at the prediction price which was above the $800/btc .
since the price is going to continuously small small down so i think it will again rise in the next week again .

I am beginning to think it was because of segwit too.
If it has anything to do with Chinese influence then that affects bitcoin because of their large user base of bitcoin technology.

I think its because of ZCASH and ICN. These three attract a lot of new users from the outside and because of that Bitcoin demand rises as depicted on the exchange sites.  It will probably continue until the real value of these coins stabilizes but this is just my opinion though.

Yes bitcoin current price will continue to rise. I am sure this will continue to happen until the end of this year. Perhaps the cause of this

increase in traffic is increased so that the use of bitcoin prices also increased. Due to increased adoption and number of users will also affect

It's a mix between a comeback to the correct price (close to what we had in June this year) and speculation.
Speculators have seen that BTC is on a rising trend so they are buying. Also some have seen that the elections getting close the USD is going weaker so they moved to BTC.
This trend can change imho at any time.

The recover is being beautiful. Everyone was screaming it was the end of the world, "oh my god, we are going back to 250!!!!!!! fuck!!!", it looks like the panic sellers went insane again and the sane people held through the storm and now we are back on track to 1000+

Well, any price increases by leaps and bounds, it would decrease when it is already very high. Well, it is not unusual, but after the decline, the current price of bitcoin back up again. I think that next week bitcoin prices could be above $ 720. This time I noticed that the price of bitcoin has reached $ 710, I hope this increased slowly in order to avoid a decrease in quick time

actually it is a natural change in the price now . because this price is from some days and i think it would remain stable  for two weeks atleast . and it price will fluctuate around $700/btc .

actually the demand in the bitcoin world is increases due this reason the price got high .
and also wee are seeing some new activities and also new services in bitcoin is going to start these are the main reason of lack of btc in online market that results into high price and u think it will continue for about 10 days .

It's at 709$ currently, I am thinking like the price was $600-650 for few months maybe now it will be stable-ish at 700-750 for some time. But its bitcoin you never know when it would suddenly drop or rise like it did in last few days.

bitcoin price is 700 dollar now and it doesn't matter how much some people dislike it because they missed out and it doesn't matter if it goes below it for a short time, the price is 700 dollar and it will go back there no matter how much they swing bitcoin around with dumps and spreading lies about china or other things!

It's not so rapidly increasing, I would say, but stil is moving up and that is good. The only problem is that we can't be so sure that it will continue so another month or more.
Hope for the best that rising will continue but we have to be ready for all scenarios.

Maybe the price is bouncing back because they realized the rumors are just rumors and they were played. NOw they are buying back and bitcoin price is moving back up again. It is good that it is back in its course. Maybe we can enjoy a much higher price before the year ends.

But if the price goes up too much during the holidays, there will be massive dumping early next year.

For sure  , dumping would   be expected on next year   after  the  holiday  season  or  on the  holiday season because  most people would surely cash out their    bitcoin  because  of   they  would  buy   things   on that  days. Rapid   increase   on bitcoins price  are the effects  of   more adoption  of it.

I don't see that scenario happening and you can actually google the bitcoins statistics for nov-jan and you can see that bitcoin doesn't go down since holiday season is approaching, but instead it makes the price soar nor bent stable, but surely i will say yes if you would say the dump will happen at the end of that said months since bad fuds can surely scattered and many people would dump since they have nothing to wait at that moment(just my opinion)

Usually it retains a bit of the price after the dumps so it reaches higher heights every time there is a big pump. Perhaps by the end of next year we would have seen the much desired 1000 $ happen...

I don't think that the rapid increase of bitcoin price is due to the adoption of bitcoin.  If there is an actual adoption, it should be slow and steady, but if it is something like fast increase in price, there is some irregularities in it.  It is either someone is manipulating the price or someone is panic buying because he is escaping his countries currency depreciation.  Either of the two will result in a dump later on.  Because whales will surely dump his bitcoin when it reaches his target price, while those who bought bitcoin to escape their currency's demise will surely convert it to other currency resulting in dumping of their bought bitcoins.

If dumping happens after each rise, we could have seen it several times now, just alone in this year. The dump in august doesn't count because it was due to the finex hack.
So I would say is what would happen is after a huge rise, is mostly some bigger correction, before continuing what we are doing the whole year now. We move up, corrrect and then move up again.
We're in a bull trend and I can not see why people should dump massively just because we are moving up too fast, which by the way is some subjective feeling.

Many users here expecting of fast increasing price from 700-800 and others thinks it will decrease so fast which is impossible to happen :'( some are panicking of selling their coins because of afraid the price will dump so fast. And the opposite is buying because of expecting of the large price hike.
In my opinion there's no reason to panic, think that this price is just like before without change from $560 that is stable from almost a month adn this rate is so nice and this stable price from the range of $690 -$710 is really great for me compared from the last months that has $500-$600.

I was really really shocked too when the time i vacation the price of bitcoin is not like that and then i online because my vacation is done i really amazed on what the bitcoin price happen and when i checked it into preev.com site the bitcoin price was really high and my thoughts is the bitcoin will be hit the 800?

Price has again started to go down slowly again and I think till the end of the next month we would be playing at the same price level but as we have seen in the past that price starts to go higher at the end of the year so we can expect the price of $800 at the end of the year but not before that and that also if people continues to buy till that point of time.

Even this is my expectation is like that, bitcoin is use to get increase on December and January months every year. I expect better price rise when compare to last year. wait and win with the best price.

Everyone is expecting some great price by the end of the year and that is why everyone is preferring to hold their coins till that time so that they can sell when price reaches to $800 or even higher in coming months and I think $800 is pretty possible to achieve at the end of the month of December.

As long as the prices keeps staying above 700$ this is good. The tendency is going up and we all would like to see 800$ at least by the end of the year. Some are going even further saying that the price should reach 1000$very soon.
We'll see what 2017 brings to us.

Year 2017 will be the promising year for bitcoins as bitcoin is growing more and more over a period of time and we have witnessed the same thing in this year as price rise to more then 100% in this year in compare to the last year and if the rally continues then we may see much better and higher price in next year.

At the moment I see the stable level between 705$ and 725$.
Every time the bitcoin went out of that intervall, due to recent rumors or elections, it bounced quickly back into it.
I suppose at the moment that by the end of the year we will see something of 750$, if nothing dramatically changes the game.

I don't think the price will continue to rise that quickly. As we are seeing now, there is some fluctuation. I think we will see a gradual increase with more fluctuations are times.

you're right, sometimes, bitcoin prices are rising rapidly, but after this increase, the bitcoin fell back, although down not too far from the ascension. Well, after that bitcoin prices will be stable in a long time as it is today. I hope someday bitcoin prices rise quickly and remain stable

I think the price will continue to rise slowly with time , and mostly it will hit the 1000$ level by the end of this year, or by the first months of the next year maximum.

Yes, I agree the bitcoin price will not steadily increase in price without set-back.  This is why many investors and traders flock in bitcoin.  One thing I also observed is that whenever a fast incease in price of bitcoin occur, there is this bigger set-back in price, which somehow show that there is a correction after an incline in price.  Most people think of whales manipulating the price, pushing the bitcoin price increase and cashing out when the goal price is met, which is very possible too.

I also agree with it, rapid increase occurs due to bigger set back of price. There is no manipulation of price at all, only one thing let me think that is actually pushing those investors to sell their bitcoin because of this great opportunity, anyway this is a game of trading and everyone should grab this for big profit.

The set back is already occured last month. Bitcoin price is just arbitrating and prepairing for price inflation on the end of the month. Bag some bitcoins while it is still cheap. Grab it when it dumps on 690$. 800$ is nearly coming.  :)

What you people are excited for, this is happening all the time with bitcoins. Not the first, not the last time for sure, isn`t this exactly what we all been waiting for, and now when it finally comes you ask why its rapidly increase.
Bitcoin is building power for a while and after a long time of silence bitcoin started to rise, that means things are happening, people are joining, shops are opening, casinos are full, people trade like crazy, buy and sell bitcoins, with few words economy is growing.

Over the past few hours time a sudden increase in price had took place. This price increase needs to continue as price is stable for a long. This time price needs to get close to $750, so that it will be stable for a short and touches $1000 by the year end.

We are  hoping the same thing  on  which  we  would  like to see bitcoins  price to  touch  $1k  price again  but  as we all  notice that  bitcoins  price is playing  between  $710- $740  price and  i dont think  it would  lower down  its price again  on  sub 600+ price and  its  a really good  indicator that bitcoin does have already a good support   regarding when its price tend to  go down  a little bit.

Hope it will continue to rise. The price is playing around 700 and 750 but have my fingers crossed to step over this limit. I'm not expecting 1000$ at this moment this would be to optimistic but 800$ or 850$ would be very nice to see...

As per previous years price trend the price of Bitcoin usually rises during the halving and until Black Friday and Christmas sales start and people start buying a lot of stuff using their Bitcoins. Consequently, the price dips a bit when this happens. But this year, the trend seems a bit different due to the fall in value of the Yuan and the Indian currency demonetization where a lot of investors are going long on Bitcoins.

Also if you remember it's been twice or thrice within this month that the value of Bitcoins has fallen from 700 USD to lower value and then risen up again, and now it's back to USD 740+. This seems to be a bit volatile considering the buy and sell wave from China. I'm looking forward for a positive outlook in Bitcoins price the coming year and hoping that it reaches USD 1000 + by Feb end or March beginning.

 

It seems that the stable price set on $740s as many factors affecting bitcoin in good way such as CNY inflation and bitcoin got higher demand there, end of the year is coming and speculation about the price reach $1000, latest news about shops at the Passage du Grand Cerf in Paris accepted bitcoin payment, so everything going fine and demand of bitcoin created high price.
What interesting is every time financial crash or vulnerability of fiat system occurs will affect positively on bitcoin due to people looking for reliable currency that doesn't affected.

One of the reasons, as stated before, is supply and demand. There is an increased interest from users, and the fact that we have less coins entering the market, since the last halving, is helping the price.
Another possible factor is that there are rumors that segwit can be activated within the next few weeks.

Other than the factors within bitcoin ecosystem, there are many supporting events happened last week.
The new president for world's powerful economy and good supporter of bitcoin system, china's possible regulations on bitcoin mining that might lead to legalizing bitcoins in china and finally India's new policy on black money heavily driving bitcoin prices, right now Indian markets trade near $900 levels are the reasons for recent sudden surge.

If Trump's victory will help BTCs as expected, I believe more than never BTC will reach to $1000 soon, in December or January. The coin is stabled in $720-$740 at this moment, but it will increase more soon and stabilize in $900. That is a good speculation and very possible to happen, nothing improbable. If Trump endorses BTC, more people will start using it.

I have a friend in India and he said you can't even buy it for $900 anymore, stocks are running out in Indian exchanges and the price among private sellers is approaching $1k now as people get more desperate to get rid of their life savings before it turns into toilet paper in a few weeks.....

Indian markets are trading above $900 levels, so just arbitrage trading itself will take all markets into $800 in just one or two days itself.

4 years ago price went to 1200 $ in two weeks, there is possibility for same thing to happen again. With only difference in what will happen after, and instead of some drop it would be great to stay high and not fall after increase.
Well Christmas is really close, its nice when price is going up and everything is OK. I also hope that this trend will continue.

well a bit worried when Christmas is going to come. people are forced to sell their bitcoin adding more supply while demands remain the same because they need to buy stuffs for the Christmas. even some people said that there will be a dump on Christmas (didn't really trust it though) but anything could happen right?

4 years ago is different for this current year and i think we would get a hard time before we reached for that price level and lets not phase out the fact that there are many contented people and afraid dumpers, but also lets not erase some facts that it has a high possibility that it would be happen again since bitcoin is like a zombie and rising without even knowing a track,

i have no idea what cause to makes bitcoin price rise up since several days ago but the current situations was good for short trade for an example yesterday the price dropped at $730 below and i had decide to buy at that price even i slightly doubt because red mark on bitcoin chart showing that the price will dropped again but fortunately the price climbing again today and currently at $740 so although the price isn't stable but just took benefit from that is enough for me
