Online currency bitcoin had 20 percent knocked off its price overnight on Thursday as one of its major exchanges became the victim of a hacking attack leading to a sell-off in the virtual currency after reaching an all-time high.

Nice piece of FUD (amazing choice of title). Good to see that CNBC stays dumb.

See this by the same author:

He got no comments and probably few page views with his neutral article so then he wrote a FUD piece. Lesson: If you don't want FUD on bitcoin go comment and spread balanced articles. It looks similar to some kind of extortion to me since the first one was so void of original content, but so it goes.

Lol, their comment section seems a bit dead. No-one willing to sell their soul to register and spamify their inbox? Or just zero audience? Or are they moderating the hell out of it? I've seen how "news" papers can completely and utterly censor comments while making it appear that there is legitimate discussion going on. Besides, the Bitcoin community is immune to such 'hack' attempts. A 1 hour outage for some business (or 3 hours or whatever it was) and average volatility is not newsworthy.

I love FUD like this. It keeps ignorant people away at this early stage. These people will only bring instability to this immature market. Eventually, they will jump in when 1BTC = 10000USD

Thursday, cyberattackers routed around the encryption, forking Bitcoin's server and hashing its TCP/IP stack...

sounds good to me!  ;)
