Title: Optimal Settings for ATI Radeon 7950 in CGMiner?
Post by: Benny1985 on April 05, 2013, 03:36:32 AM
Hello,

I noticed that there are a lot of people getting onto the LTC bandwagon. It seems that 7950s and 7970s are arguably the best for LTC mining (from my understanding). I have a few 7950s on the way, so I was curious what some good settings were to shoot for. Most 7950 owners are reporting between 550 - 620 khash once some optimization is done.

If anyone has good settings, let us know! If I can save a few hours on a setup for 5 7950s, I'll gladly throw some coin to someone that can give me a batch script, or at least point me in the right direction for settings.

Thanks!

Have you tried the GUI miner I wrote? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150331.120

Have not tried it yet for 7950s. I use GUIMiner-Scrypt on my 7770 (no overclocking or such).

Is there any kind of benchmark for GUIMiner-Scrypt for 7950s that I could see? I'd LOVE to use GUIMiner as opposed to CGMiner, but was unsure if I'd lose some performance.

Well, it's just a frontend to cgminer.  The performance is the same; it even gives you the command it send to cgminer if you check the console.

Ah, okay, thanks.

I assume, though, that there still needs to be tweaking in the overclock/voltage settings for top performance, right?

Is that something that is on a card-by-card basis, or is there any rule to go buy?

This is what I'll be running: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202030

I have that same card, benny. My optimal settings for it are:

1104gpu core clock, 1575 ram clock, powertune 20%
and line besides login/pool:
--gpu-platform 0 -d 0 -w 256 -v 1 -I 19 -g 1 -l 1 -T --shaders 1792 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 16384

I get an ezpz 630khs out of this card, both of 'em. I bring the voltage down to 1050 with trixx beforehand and both do just fine on heat.
