Title: To blockchain.info wallet user: do you have a backup of the wallet?
Post by: Gabi on April 05, 2013, 02:45:58 PM
I'm curious to know how many people have a backup of their blockchain.info wallet and how many do not and trust it to not disappear or else they lose everything...

Backed up via Google Drive and email, and I imported the private key into Armory so that if necessary I can spend from a desktop client in case the website is down.

If you mean submitting an email or dropbox backup then yes,
and I think you have an auto backup option to do that every time you transfer funds.

Nice, it seems a decent amount of people backup it.

More likely, the people intelligent and aware enough to find this thread in the first place are intelligent and aware enough to make sure they are backing up their wallet.  Meanwhile a significant majority of individuals aren't backing up their wallet and if/when blockchain has a service interruption they will suddenly show up on the forum (from a Google search) complaining about how they've been scammed.

I suspect your poll is suffering from self-selection bias.

If I import new keys into my blockchain.info wallet, will the backup include them should I ever restore from it?

I'm guessing yes, but I thought I read somewhere that imported keys, along with any coins assigned to them, disappear when restoring.

You would need to create a new backup after importing the keys.  They won't be included in a backup that was created before the import.

Assuming that, then I believe that the backup would include the imported keys.

Thanks, that makes sense.
