that's a great site even if it's gonna make people very sad. in real bitcoin time i bought a smartphone for 0.3 btc when it was in the doldrums. now it would cost 0.07.

I would have bought a little more than a single BTC pre 2013 bubble, my first smartphone was around 200 USD and I had gotten it around that time. It would have been some fast profit with the bubble back then, not that bitcoin's price didn't fall again. But most of my btc have been earned other tnan bought either way.

Haha this is still very fresh in my mind because I paid half of a bitcoin for my new phone. I couldn't find anyone that owned the phone I wanted that would accept bitcoins so I sold them for $800CAD/BTC. As of right now my phone would have been $500CAD which all things considered would still be an ok deal. That's how much I would have paid after tax if I bought it off of eBay and it would have been even more other places.

The thing is, I use my phone for everything including posting on bitcointalk. So really it's an investment to keep earning bitcoins. If I'm trying to sell something on bitcointalk and I don't get a hold of someone for days because I don't want to be bothered to go to a computer I'll probably lose that customer so it all works out in the end.

I won't even check for that site because I will be very broken-hearted, forever of course :D !

Honestly the price of bitcoin and the phone there is not the same before and bitcoin price before is cheap so if i did not bought a phone with iphone 5 last  year maybe right now it gives me a good profit 100% profit or it double right now because of the price increase from last year.. but it is not a problem because we are still getting the benefits of price increase right now even we don't holding lots of bitcoin..

Yeah. If I were to discover bitcoin as earlier before I bought my phone. Maybe right now I am holding for about two to three Bitcoin approximately right now. Especially I am doing trading, which I can double or triple my bitcoin in no time if lucky. And spending on nonsense stuffs like things that I don't really need rather than investing in trading. I think if I did the right thing, it may generate a decent amount of profit right now.

The manufacturer of the phone I own is listed there on that web page but my phone model isn't still I tell you how much btc I could have owned had I bought them instead of phone with that money and it would be Btc 0.48854717

I do not want to know because I do not want to be depressed. I bought my smart phone when the price of bitcoin was still in cents, so you can just imagine how much it could have been by now.

yeah, but thinking like that will eventually drive anyone crazy. i had to pay 30c for a piss in 2009. now that piss would cost millions. thinking like that is pointless.

Got my first smartphone this year, back when bitcoin was hovering around $600. If I estimate it correct, it would translate into something like $700 or $800 Canadian now that I really think about it, however I don't remember what it was exactly so it really comes down to just a ballpark estimate.

If I didn't had the phone (instead of buying bitcoin) then maybe I wouldn't be aware that bitcoin exists.
The compare is very clear and people will compare the prices in 2030 and will be surprised of the price of 2016

Bought my first smartphone back in 2013, and that was when it was hovering around $700. It's now at the same (or similar) value now and I spent approximately $300 on my first smartphone. As such, my investment wouldn't have changed between those periods of time.

Kind of a shame.

I read about bitcoin end of 2009/early 2010 and though it was intersting but wont get anywhere.

Lord Have Mercy. If I bought Bitcoin rather than my first phone(Iphone 4s), I would have $122,184 USD by now and just thinking about it, makes me wanna cry. I didn't like THAT IPHONE 4S ANYWAY  :'( :'( :'(.

Calculated it and well it is really a big return if I bought bitcon but I during those time i was not aware that bitcoin exist.  So either way i won't regret buying my CP because during that time bitcoin for me does not exist.  And besides, the bought cellphone at served it purpose.  Used to contact my group whenever there is an event or a follow up sales is needed.

I'm probably in the minority on this one.  Bought 1st smartphone in 2013 and I really didn't buy it.  I upgraded my phone plan and basically got it for a few dollars.  Still have the thing, too.  Thus I probably would have LOST money if I'd bought any amount of btc in 2013.  I'd like to say I planned it this way, but I did not.  :)

Im planning to buy a new smartphone again for the benefit of bitcoin. I need a new phone that will not drain that fast so i think i can still continue to buy hoping i can earn more and it will be an investment too. I was just having other thoughts because of this thread luckily I found your reply so I can still buy.

my first smartphone only $30, Haier. But i still save it untill now because that phone is first thing that i buy with income from bitcoin. But now i buy new xiaomi so my phone cost total only $130  ;D. still can't find my phone type on your site

My first smartphone was really cheap so wouldn`t make a btc fortune.

I bought my first smartphone when bitcoin was around 300$ so i missed the profit anyway.

Actually the price of phone you own keep on decreasing while the price of gold/bitcoin will keep on increasing. Thats why better to buy some gold/bitcoin rather than things like mobile/car/big tv if you don't need them. I only carry 100$ worth smartphone i don't think i will ever by any iphone.

My first smartphone was a single core, Gingerbread phone which I got for $50 and it lasted for 2 years  since 2014. If I haven't bought a smartphone back then (which is about 0.2 btc last 2014) I would have some nice $156 as of now. The thing is, that $50 smartphone still is functional today so no regrets, haha.

Probably i had been done a net profit of about 70% because at the time when I had bought my smartphone bitcoin's rate was around $190 and  now after 1 year im suffering pinky losses and losses. I wish i had bought bitcoin instead of my smartphone. Now no use of weeping.

my smartphone costs only $40 so I think buying bitcoin for such low quality won't give me noticeable profit. so i am waiting few years more so that I would have more money in pocket and i could buy wholly 1 bitcoin and then I will start trading.

By the way you really should add more mobile phones to tour website. When i searched mine and couldn't find it, I didn't like it. I know it is stupid since most of the phones have a similar price but people will search for their phones:)

when i got my first phone bitcoin was not even created so i wouldn't know how much i would have exactly if i got bitcoin instead of my phone, but my current phone is about 150$ and i got it back when bitcoin was about the same price so i would have 1 btc but obviously i wouldn't keep 1 btc all this time i would either spend it all or made a fortune out of it

Thought the phone i have bought is not mentioned on that site but i can do an estimate of the price which was around $150 that time and if we see the price of bitcoin then maybe i would have around 0.3btc out of that.

My first smartphone wasnt a big deal, but currently, seeing the price of bitcoin, and the value of the equivalent smartphones, i'd have got a fair amout of 0.36 bitcoins if i had bought bitcoins then.

Never bought smarphone in my life since I work with the benefits given by the company to provide us a cellular phone. It's hard to go back to the past but I just hope that time when bitcoin was cheap I know bitcoin and I see guidance from God to invest on it.

Maybe if I will consider instead of gifting me smartphone then bitcoin would be fine and I guess it will range to 0.5 BTC only.

For the smartphone that I'm using until now is not that expensive it is way back when the price is still $400.

This is an interesting website. I had my smartphone last year and I bought it about $320. So for bitcoin now, it's half. 0.5 BTC for it. But that was the last year's price, now it is 0.25 BTC (If I get the best deal in selling it) but I think I won't sell it anymore. The smartphones' prices easily decline, especially for Samsung phones. Sadly for me, the website doesn't have my phone in it.

Therefore, I think I can conclude that I should buy Apple because the price doesn't decline that much to their original prices.

Same here! The biggest mistake in my life is i did not believe in bitcoins before. if only i have listened to my friend, maybe i would have more than 80 btc now, because by year 2009 instead of thinking to invest, i just buy some stuff that is only i dont need, now if only i could turn back time, i will buy some bitcoins, save and hold until its price increase.

I think it was a moto g, and it got out in November 2013.
I bought mine in december 2013, and at that time bitcoin was at its highest point so far.
I do not know exactly how much I paid, but the bitcoin price at the moment is still beyond the price at that time.

But how much is the phone worth now?
And In 2020  how much will the phone be worth compared to a 1-2 btc?
It's a good example to buy btc sooner rather than later!

The phone is worth not much anymore.
But I was able to use it for about two years until I got me another one.
If I bought bitcoin at that time I might still have them, but I would not have been able to use a smartphone for two years.
In general I think the example to compare bitcoins with smartphones is chosen a little unfortunate.
A good for use can not be compared to an investment.
Things you use always end up with little to no worth in the end, while investment should bring more than you put into it.
I am still glad I bought that phone, no matter in what currency I paid for it.

I have bought my first smart phone in the end of January of 2014. As I know bitcoin that time was costed approximately as today, around 700$. So with simple calculation I wold have like 0,15 bitcoin in the case if I would spend those money for bitcoin instead of to buy the new phone.

I got my first phone before bitcoins came on the scene but I was getting a replacement phone around that time(2009~2010) an iphone 3G am sure I would have been sitting on over 5000 bitcoins by now

It's such a regret for me to realize this late! Only if I have known bitcoin earlier than i had bought my first smartphone then probably I'm rich right now.  :D
Technology is changing fast from time to time. Gadgets are no good investments because as each day passes by, a new gadget is being launched and the older ones become obsolete. The price of the gadgets are dropping as it becomes obsolete. But if we invest in bitcoin for sure our money for now would have grown already. But then I had made my choice in the past . For now, I'm doing my best in bitcoin.  8)

I bought my first smartphone in 2013, when the BTC exchange rate was around $15 per coin. I paid around $90 for the phone. So if I had purchased Bitcoins instead of the phone, I would have had BTC6 in my wallet right now. In today's exchange rate, that amounts to $4,500.

geez i bought Samsung Nexus S and the price is $529 (16GB) but today the value is increase by three time from the time i bought and its $1,574,219 (16GB) and i should have almost 4 btc right now. its really sad but i should take it and still continue to reach that amount in middle term.

Even though such sites give us some humorous insights, it always gives pain for not doing such things like investing in bitcoin. I am an optimistic so I always find some positive thing and I think we are yet in initial stage of bitcoin and hence we are going to get most of the benefits in the long run but the only condition is that, we should keep going.

Clever site will make a lot of people cry with tool,but who would have told that Bitcoin value will skyrocket,even the best financial analysis could have not predict this to happen it's just luck on hose people who bought a lot of bitcoin then..

It's a neat idea but I think Sony phones are missing from the list so I had to cross-check with similarly priced phones from the included manufacturers and it seems I have missed on around $6,804,947 USD  ;D But I have spent much more money on the pre-Windows Nokia phones and I guess if I had invested that money in Bitcoin instead I would have probably had more than $100k today  :o

Heart breaking. I just realized i dont need to buy new phone now. Thou im about to buy for bitcoin purposes will still not to do due to this.i will still this phone as long as its working good in bitcoining. Will just invest or stock the money in my wallet knowing its value will definitely getting bigger soon.

I think I have my smartphone around 2013, and BTC was @15 dollar. I bought it at aroung 120$, If i bought bitcoin that time maybe I have 8 BTC or roughly 6 BTC :)

I can't find my old smartphone that still working, but I don't use anymore. My old phone is a HTC One. Also, I can't find my actual phone LG G4 on the website to have a comparison on the actual price in bitcoin.

What happened to me was actually the vice versa of your statement. I recently just bought my new smart phone for $200 and all of that $200 was basically all from my bitcoin earnings.

I took my smart phone recently, but by the year 2008 one of my friend bought a mobile phone at a rate of around $400. During those days if he had spend the same amount on bitcoin now he could have been a billionaire without doubt, but now he's just on a normal day dream.

The price of bitcoins that I used to buy a smartphone in the early 2015 might be doubled now. If I could only have saved it instead of spending it maybe i can be able to buy laptop now for my online need. The price of bitcoin now is nearing $800 with a possibility of reaching the $1000 mark early next year.

My first phone ever, I bought a Nokia around 2008-2009 and the site says I'd have had $7,131,053 now.

Anyway, I know that even if I hadn't bought that phone, I never would have bought Bitcoin. The most that I could have put in bitcoin at that time was around $100.   ;D ;D

Though it was not my first smartphone, because my first isn't listed there. But this Nokia phone was about my 5th or 6th phone, the site shows if I had bought bitcoin instead, it would probably be worth $7,118,792  now.

Well probably a lot already,i just thought if i knew bitcoin first before smartphones are on the market.i would rather have my btc than a smartphones.Smartphone consume money while on bitcoins you earned money,then that's the difference between the two,maybe i earned more than what the price i have spend  on my smartphone.

It would be much lesser in value. When I purchased my smartphone the price of bitcoin was 1000$ and so if I did not purchased my smartphones I would have lost 300$ at this point of time. But btc is now moving up and I am waiting for it to increase more and hope it will go back to 1000$ so my earned bitcoins at this moment will have more interest.

Most users who bought a smartphone if spend those into bitcoin or invested into it some might have been found as a millionaires now. I haven't spend much on buying my smartphone, so it gives a fulfilment on thinking about bitcoin.

My first smartphone wasn't so very expensive so if I recall well and having in mind the price back then I would have around 0.5 Bitcoins. But I use my smartphone for Bitcoin applications and for this forum too and for many other things that I need for every day so I don't think this is a bad investment.

Nearly $100 :p I don't like to buy expensive smartphone. So aren't much now tho, but it was a very good one.  :D

Yeah, past is gone but answer to OP question is simple. If you have hold your bitcoins and not spend on Smart Phone for one year, you can have  two smart phone with same price as the bitcoin price has increased more than twice.

I bought my first smartphone in 2012. I spend ~150 on it. Then bitcoin price was ~$13. So, I would be able to buy ~11 btc. Today these such amount of btc worth $9400.

There are really regrets for those people who bought smartphone on last year since bitcoins price isnt that high enough and you are right we cant really change the past and the thing is already done and cant really go back.Better to hold off bitcoin and wont tend to purchase smartphone again hehehe

i think its almost 0.4 btc because my smartphone is about $400 or more so if i buy btc rathen than to buy smartphone, i have more than 0.4 btc but fortunately, now i have my first smartphone which is oppo smartphone.

However i think it could have been better if you had only spent $100-$200 in another smartphone and held those 0.20BTC for future. I have smartphone worth only $120 and it is more than enough for me even i can do trading with it.  ;)

You don't always compare money with commodities. The pleasure Smartphone can give, maybe not be given by just holding the coins in the wallet. and of course we save money to buy things. Smartphone is a need in today's world and i think is a good desicion to buy this necessity of the modern world.

this is a wrong question and a wrong topic all over.
it is always wrong to think about money this way, in a regretful way, it is not healthy. you always spend what you need and invest what you an afford to invest. nothing more and nothing less.
in other words if you needed a smartphone you bought a smartphone and you shouldn't start thinking what if i didn't and had bitcoin.

Ok let me do the calculations here; I bought a black iPhone 4 32GB in July 2010 which was selling at $299 AT&T and from my history checks the price of bitcoin inJuly 2010 was ($0.08=1BTC). So I could have bought 3737.5BTC then, so if I stored it cold until it rose to 1,100$ either in 2013 or early this month I should have made 3737.5*1100=$4,111,250. WTF I would have been a millionaire!!!!

I actually got my first smart phone becuase i wanted the 2fa set up for exchange trading.  I wonder if anyone else is in my boat? so to answer your Q i would have about only 2 BTC judging for price at the time haha.
