hi all,

pretty new here and would like to hear your suggestions before starting. my question is: which is in yr opinion the best online btc wallet and why?

i'd like to start investing something but still not really sure on what is the best way to handle it

Go for official Blockchain wallet. I prefer it to coinbase for several reasons. As for investing, do you wish for investing in pools or by trading crypto-currencies? There are many exchanges that have an in-built wallet for transactions. You can also safely store money in gambling websites that are trusted. Good Luck.

Well, im using xapo wallet and mycelium right now. They working fine since i used them and doesnt encounter any errors. But i recommending these for small amount of bitcoins only. Every online wallets cannot give you full access to your private keys which making you feel uncomfortable. And i recommend to use multiple wallet just incase the other one has problem. Online wallet doesnt give you maximum security because they can be also turn into scam anytime.

Go on with hardware or desktop wallets instead and only use online wallet to take advantage of their services. Any online wallets are not recommended for storage purposes since they are prone to fraud and that is possible even for a reputable exchange.

But it doesn't mean you don't have to use them. Im just pointing out that you may use their services but refrain from storing too much coins on any kinds of exchange wallet.

If your goal of investment is meant for trading, then you must know first the risk of storing big coins at exchange site.

In my own experience i am still not experience of any issue i use electrum i already tried to use coinbase and xapo honestly for me i am halving some issue like pending that it takes long time before they can fix it and xapo never open my account because of halving issue to retype the confirmation code even i change my password until now i can not open my wallet in xapo.. so the only wallet that i can refer you is electrum.. good desktop wallet..

I think the best is to store the most BTC you don't need immediatiately on a wallet like bitcoin core. You can Always let small amount on an online wallet like blockchain.info. I have used that one recently and the transactions went very fast. These are two wallets i prefer at this moment.

My opinion? Well it is not safe an pretty much inconvinient from me. I don't use online wallets where I have no full control of my wallet so only blockchain has my interest ever since. Tho I don't use blockchain as well. I only use Mycelium as my main wallet with a couple of backups and exchange wallet for my daily use to save me from transaction fees.

I think use mycelium is more better than online wallet because, it is cheap fees when sending bitcoin if be compared with Blockchain.info, and it can be used on smartphone so you can control the bitcoins on hand, it is simple than must use PC or laptop.
There is good feature for sign massages on your phone and the essentials it is safe in my experience, but everything depend on you what kinds of wallets that suitable for you.

I like most Blockchain.info. After using it for more than 1 year, I can say their service is very good and legit. Despite other people words, people aren't scammed there all the time and for unknown reasons. There are safety procediments to make the account safer against hacker's attacks. And it works very well. Make your account safe and you will be 99% safe (I wouldn't risk say 100%, different things can happen in different kinds of wallets).

There is an another interesting option, you can earn income by store your BTCs on this wallet: https://haobtc.com/ Never tried, just was checking about it on another thread. More than 2 years alive, this chinese wallet can give you some satoshis income. Very low, but if you want to keep your money stored in a wallet, better than nothing...

The blockchain is indeed a good wallet and its also online and already on the run for a long time what makes them also more trust able.

choose a desktop wallet instead where you have total control over everything instead of relying on a third party website as your bitcoin wallet. better yet learn more about cold storage and set one up for yourself for the maximum security.

if you insist on using a web wallet then use blockchain.info since they give most of the control to you and they don't save unencrypted private keys on their servers. or use coinbase if you are looking for an easier wallet to use and buy bitcoin at the same place.

In my opinion the best online wallet is Coinbase. They have some restrictions, so is good to read carefully their ToS.

But of course online wallet never will be good enough to store your coins. Always desktop wallet will be better for that

Since op is looking for the best online bitcoin wallet then I third the motion that blockchain.info has what it takes to be the best online wallet.

But still there are some good online wallets out there and there are variety of them depending on how you are comfortable to use them.

I'm comfortable using blockchain and I don't have any problem with it, just also a reminder you may use some exchange wallet but don't let your bitcoins stored there.

If you were willing to pay for your transaction fees anyway, then why not use a good trusted desktop wallet instead of blockchain.info? You'd have full control of your coins/wallet, wouldn't have to abide/watch out for their TOS, and it's also pretty easy to use. I would recommend Electrum, it's easy to understand and work with even for beginners. Or if you wish to use your mobile, there's Mycelium.(Android)

If, you were looking for wallets that pay for your fees however, there's Coinbase and Xapo. You won't have to worry about your fees and so far, the transactions I've had there confirmed pretty fast. Do remember though that THEY would have control of your coins/wallets and you HAVE to follow all their rules/TOS or you'd have your account frozen. Dealing with support could take days or even weeks, so. Up to you.

uuhh i don't recommend the Coinbase, they are known for monitoring users transactions, your account would freeze or locked for many reasons like gambling yeah they banned some users that used to gamble with bitcoins. But it's ok if you are not a gambler or doing something illegal then go use it, i mean it's better to use a wallet where you can controll the private key well let be honest bitcoin's fee is just a little if compare bitcoin to paypal, western union or wire transfer, just a friendly advice  ;)

Try Xapo, As they are really convenient when sending bitcoins because you don't have to pay the miners fee as they already eliminated it .

But just like what the others said, Only keep a small amount of money in online wallets as they are very risky because most of them don't give private keys .

And don't try coinbase as they are very strict, every transaction is regulated they can block or even terminate your account .

Huh. It's not just Coinbase that is strict as the same goes for Xapo as well. I'd say they're even "stricter".
Both are regulated, both randomly asks for KYC/AML and both are very well-known for freezing accounts. The only thing that's great is the "free" transactions.
Having said that, I haven't personally encountered issues with either one since taking the time to read their Terms should go a long way in avoiding any hassles.
As for blockchain.info, I was a great fan of the previous version but ever since the update, I haven't used it much and have since opted for Electrum and Mycelium instead.(Since I'd be paying the fees anyway.)

Xapo is okay but I like the other wallets way more if I have to be honest, its of course also how you look at it but the fact is that the blockchain is also good and pretty good secured for a online one.

To answer your question no online wallet is really secure so one is as bad as the other. Unless your bitcoin private keys are offline you will always be vulnerable to theft, if not from malware then from an exchange. You do not own the bitcoins unless you have possession of the private keys.

Desktop wallets even Core have the same vulnerability to malware. I think anyone with more than a few hundred dollars in bitcoin should be using a hardware wallet either Ledger Nano S or Trezor.

Main wallet that i still use as of now is coin.ph which is exclusive only in my place the 2nd online wallet but i already experience of problem is coinbase..
Because they are blocking or locking account once if you are using bitcoin in gambling casino i experience of delay transaction but it is ok since they are giving a wallet without a fee and many people are using..

coin.ph looks a good wallet for Phillippine people.

I see many people complaining about coinbase because this issue with gambling sites that they forbid users to send money to gamble. But it's a good wallet anyway, you can use it just to another things, like exchanges, faucets, receive payments from tasks... And use another wallet to send money to gamble. Coinbase worth because they have no fees.

The best online wallet is for me The blockchain wallet because its a secure and trusted wallet that is used a large amount of people that are using online wallets.

If you are a newbie to these wallets then you have to take start from xapo as there you will have to provide all of your info from the beginning and it is easily recoverable if you forget your login details and if they suspend your account then they will not steal your bitcoins but will ask for an external address and will send you your bitcoins so take the start from there.

The blockchain wallet is one of the best and it is indeed good secured, it even got 2FA what is pretty rare to be honest.

Xapo is good and without any fee's and the blockchain is also good because of the security and also because it has a lot of features that can be used for easy things.

The blockchain is good but the fact its online makes it for me useless, I also sue it of course because of the security but I prefer paper wallets above it.

These online wallets suck in my opinion. I used to use blockchain's wallet but I had problems with them because it's kind of restrictive. When I use their mobile wallet and imported a private key the app or even the online walllet over the browser has a lot of problems using that imported wallet. So I left it for good and just sticked with offline ones.

After using several wallets online, I think coinbase and xapo are best online wallet. I ever using blockchain, but to me that sometimes switching computers make a fuss, because the identifier of blockchain ever-changing and difficult to remember.

I have use those three, coinbase , xapo and blockchain. I failed to say that coinbase is good enough for me. I'm not just satisfied with it, I can say that I'm more satisfied with xapo and blockchain. And for me, blockchain is the best online bitcoin wallet and xapo is on my second list.

For me the best online wallets are blockchain and xapo. I am using these both wallets and do not have any issue from both of these. Some of the people are claiming issues from xapo nowadays because of their blocking accounts from members but I have not faced that issue.

I haven't tried xapo's debit card but it seems that a lot of review says they are charging higher than we expect but regarding its service, its good. And why xapo is on my second list, there is no transaction fees every time you will send bitcoins to someone even though blockchain does charge, still blockchain is the best.

I will prefer to blockchain.info's wallet but never on xapo, yes you have not faced and encountered this issue on xapo but it will, soon. And that day you will realize why there so many users and bitcoin holders don't like xapo as a wallet service.

Xapo is good but if we talk about a pretty good secured online wallet you can better pick the Blockchain in my eyes.

because use private key you can control your bitcoin

Even though xapo and coinbase are listed out there i don't recommend them like people said and many cases happened out there it's not good for storing bitcoin, just use the wallet where you can controll the private key, so whatever you do with your money even if it's illegal no one can lock it or freeze it, blockhcain is a good one though just a friendly advice.

For me the Blockchain wallet stays one of the best because it has very good market and is also trust worthy compared with the others.

But when I open bitcoin.org, blockchain not show in there. I recommend to use coinbase or xapo, because simple and use vault for more security.

There is no doubt that from this two (coinbase and xapo) Coibase is better. Now for sure Coinabase have better security and is more friendly for new users (have very easy desktop).

We have opposite recommendation, I really find coinbase good but it seems I really don't have an heart for using it.

Xapo had good promotion on Bitcointalk and between faucet users. As i know they still run micropayments service, so to use faucets it is easiest way.
I can't find now thread where one guy make summary of few online wallets. Xapo have good rank, blockchain info after upgrade lost a lot, and Coinbase have the best security. Anyway online wallets should be use only to make transfers, not to store BTC.

blockchain.info could be the best choice for if you are looking for secured web wallet, you can secure your wallet by using various security authentication such as Two Factor Authentication, Pass Phrases etc. and you just need a few Verification before you can readily use the wallet and you are good to go .

 I don't trust any online wallet if is not proven private key for the users. that is main reason that I never used Xapo and Coinbase

 based they ask to prove your identity ,this does not provide a the privacy.The main idea, which created encryptcurrency for it.

For me its stays the blockchain wallet because its a wallet that is okay secured is easy accesible and also has a good dashboard to manage it.

I also agree with that and with the blockchain a lot of things are possible due to the fact it has a lot of options these days and its also good secured.

I use cryptnator wallet because it allows me to exchange within the wallet on the fly instead of having to go to exchanges to do that. It is very conveint but it does cost you to not pay so much in fees to use this service and to do sends to other people.

Xapo is pretty good but I prefer blockchain above it due to the security and more options that are in the wallet itself.

I use cryptonator wallet as well as Coinbase.
The only reason I'm using an online one is to save on fees so, these two are great for that.
I used to use Blockchain but ever since their change to HD wallets, I've found it's somewhat hard to use so I switched to coinbase and cryptonator.
The free fees are really awesome and it's quite convenient but the downside is, I gotta be careful of all my transactions(make sure it's not against their TOS).
 
Otherwise, for my main funds and mid-large transactions, I use Electrum.

The bitcoin has a lot of online wallets but the best wallet there is online stays the blockchain right now for sure.

The best for you but it doesn't mean that the blockhain wallet is best for us.
I used blockhain for long time, this site is popular and also targeted by the hackers for those reasons there's always possibility for this site to down, as we can see there was DNS attack last month and the site go offline for few hours  what if this site is offline forever, do you still have access to your coins?  so i advise you to not store all of your money out there, Never put all your eggs in one basket, just a friendly advise.

xapo is the best

Blockchain for web wallet, bitcoin core for desktop, and electrum for smartphone wallet. If there is another best choice, I would choose xapo, multibit HD, and airbitz/mycellium.

My best online bitcoin wallet is blockchain.info because it is really different compared to other online/web wallets and im using it since i was starting on bitcoin world upto now im still using it.Sometimes i use coinbase but the platform of blockchain is really different which give me the convenience of sending funds and recieving funds and its user-friendly compared to others.

Xapo is okay but I still like Blockchain more because it has more nice dashboard settings and it also has more security options that can be chosen from.

My best  web wallet is from blockchain.info because it has taught me new ways of upping my  wallets security and it has proved to be a secure wallet that can not easily be broken into thanks to the developers for not developing a RESET PASSWORD, even though I have seen people of late posting problems from it such as not receiving emails to authorize transactions and the alike, it still remains my number 1.

Online wallets is not good to save a mega amount of bitcoins on it. Because if something will go wrong, you will lose all, for small amount I'm using blokchain.info because it is safer as online wallet, but to be more safe, of course PC wallet is best)

there are a good number of wallets out there and my number one being blockchain.info then the directbet wallet (note: you do not hold private keys to this wallet but fees are covered by the bookie) but with this rise in price a desktop wallet should be ideal to prepare for the inevitable.

For me the blockchain stays the best, I do not use it a lot but when I do its an easy to use and also more safe than other online wallets.

The blockchain is good but has high fees and Xapo is good, I now use xapo because of the nice mobile easiness it has plus the fee's are low most of the time.

Xapo is bad secured if we talk about a good secured online wallet that is pretty safe and used(trusted by a lot of members on here) I would go for the blockchain wallet, I do not prefer online wallets but that is one of the best of the online ones.

just read some posts on the forum on how long its taking a transaction to get confirmed and how other users are failing to access their accounts on coinbase as a result of numerous transactions and i think its time to avoid web wallets and consider investing in a hardware devices like the TREZOR or other desktop wallets like Bitcoin Core.

The best online bitcoin wallet is the blockchain wallet and this is due to the fact it has 2fa security what is just so nice.

It is not 2005 anymore. 2FA is not a bonus feature anymore is is a core element of every serious online service.
At this point pretty much every online wallet has 2FA - Coinbase, Xapo, Coinkite, BitGo - it is even feature in some software wallets like Armory.
Having 2FA no longer makes wallet exceptionally good&unique.

I was also with them but from someone on this forum I read that xapo often lock the account of the members and even after providing them the identity documents they do not open the account and deny the members for the access to the account after that I do not keep xapo as my main account.

Xapo is good but I think that the blockchain wallet is the best with their 2fa security and with their good options too..

if you are in the Philippines then I suggest it is better for you to use coins.ph as your online wallet,
but if you are going to go for some gambling I should also warn you that there is a chance that your account could get banned or they could freeze your account because that is against there terms and agreement

Yes, coins.ph is good for those people who are living in Philippines. And besides it offers good types of services and as well as it has free transaction.

But about the gambling thing in that wallet, they are not the once who are doing that. Even coinbase is also implementing that strict rule.

But the cost for sending BTC appreciably bigger, I just use coinbase and xapo, every login always send SMS verification so secure. I also use the VAULT so that if we send from the VAULT is the best for long term storage and larger balances, withdrawals are delayed and require multiple approvals.

I don't think use online wallet is a secure ways to store your Bitcoin moreover store with big amount, i recommended you to use dekstop wallet or hardware wallet, use online wallet just for backup if you want to use online wallet you have to sure have a private key because you still have access to your address when online wallet getting trouble.

Yes, my opinion goes to same.If you just newbie in bitcoin industry or hold little amount then you are allowed to go with coinbase,xapo,blockchain such of online wallet but as real business guy or decent amount want to hold then will choose best secure wallet.Choose which types of wallet you feel familiar.There desktop,hardware and paper wallets must be the best choice that ensure you get the best experience.

But you have the point there online wallets aren't going to be safe all the time as there are intruders that are looking for wallets that has more bitcoins.

You are right even most people would say that online web wallets do have risk on lossing money but still i do trust on them regarding on security specially to blockchain.info wallet and ive been using it for how many months already and all transactions went smooth and no hassle.

That's not new and we know all about it. But there are people who are not that educated that online wallets are risky.

So they are keeping their bitcoins in that wallet as they don't know what even is desktop wallet / hardware wallet is.

And besides online wallets are free, we just need to pay some miners fee upon transacting.

I also like the btc.com, the wallet has been acquired by bitmain so that makes me pretty sure that bitcoin we will be safe and will not be lost. But I still keep my bitcoin wallet in 2 main blockchain and coinbase. If I have more bitcoin will save to btc.com

Coinbase are the best since you do not have to charge the fee when you make a transaction. They always cover it for you. Blockchain is very secure and if you hold a large number of Bitcoin, I suggest you should you blockchain instead of Coinbase. However, Coinbase is always the perfect wallet for both newbie and BItcoin veteran members

I think this one's a good wallet because there is recommended in the bitcoin.org, but I do not like it because of its features it looks poor.

Yeah I also think that blockchain is the best wallet these days as blockchain always has the largest amount of users, but some wallets are paying tx fees to attract users and also people are preferring to have more number of wallets for safety precautions. So, number of users alone will not define a best wallet.

for me it was xapo because there are no fees , but after this bad news how tell us that the minimum transaction without fees it from 0.0003 btc  :'(
and from 15th feb i will change to other wallet without fees because i claim from faucets

I think it is realistic, we can calculate if nominally less than 0.0003 is very small, thus making the people are free to send bitcoin although with small nominal. Of course, if a small transaction allowed it will be busy and make transactions could slow down the process of the transaction. I am use Xapo about 2 year and I will continues to use Xapo because I think it is one of the best online wallet.

That is not a bad idea to not to leave the use of xapo with that fees only for smallest amount of satoshis coming to the xapo wallet. But only faucet users will stop to accept payment if they do not increase their threshold of incoming satoshis to their wallets.

It means the best wallet does not need to be paying tx fees for you. Blockchain is feature rich and hence preferred by many people here as a best wallet and this much higher tx fees are due to lack of willingness from miners to include our transactions in the block they will be mining.

So, blockchain has nothing to do with higher tx fees, they set right fees for you to get your transactions to get confirmed.

If you are not willing to pay high then you can move your privatekeys anywhere else and send your bitcoins will your custom fees , but there will be no guarantee that your tx will get confirmed if you include less fees.

Best online web wallet for me would have to be Blockchain.info but it's only because it's one of them most simple methods to use and really is pretty safe if you following all the safe keeping steps they provide to secure your accounts.

I haven't experience this.  Most of the time I just pay 0.0002 when I'm still using it. But not now because I prefer using xapo right now. I like using xapo right now the fees are just for small transactions.

My best online wallet is Coinbase . I am using it the beginning of the time when I joined bitcoin world. Coinbase wallet is easy to use. It has also an android app. This wallet is safe and secure to me. I have set 2FA authentication. So no one can log on my account if they hack my Gmail. The features I like most is, There is no transaction fees,  Its totally free to use.

Yeah I also think that Xapo is the best wallet out there, I mean for many years xapo was paying for the transaction fees when you send them and they were the big supporters for new bitcoin users and faucets, so even though they are going to start taking fees it is still not that much, and they are so serious when it comes to security.

I am liking coin space.

They look like coinbase but have not become as big as they are and their support is very good unlike the mighty one they have become bringing down their client support.

I have only used them for a week now but have very high expectations for them and do not expect to have any issues with them like alot have had with coinbase.

Today First i heared about coin space wallet from you. I have googled and visited theire site. It showing its is a Bitcoin & Litecoin Wallet. Not only Coinbase uses 2FA, Xapo also use it in order to prevent the wallet from getting hacked, whenever you log in from a different ip or when you process a transaction relatively with big amount, you must enter second factor authentication.
I think this is the best security model that is why many bitcoiners are starting to use it not just wallets but also as a money transfer hub.

I just know E-coin from you, I think a good wallet is an appropriate recommendation from bitcoin.org. Do look nice as there are bitcoin debit card, but the existence of the xapo and coinbase I thought it was enough to my needs.

I also don't know nothing about e-coin  ::) Bitcoin Debit Cards (in my opinion) have good online wallets and they also are mixers itself ;)
As i know xapo also have Debit Card.. but anyway I think that the best online wallet is Coinbase!

Blockchain has an automatic deduction for the miners fee and they are forcing people to pay that "recommended fee". So for me the best online wallet is xapo, it's totally free if you got higher transaction.

So does coinbase. They all pay for the fees as they join the inputs and outputs of their customer's transactions and they send it out so they can all share fees. That is what they do. But the main problem with these wallets are that they are online wallets that require you to submit into their terms and conditions. Which may include that they can unilaterally close your account, suspend it, freeze your account, etc. Another issue, which I experienced lately, was that the online wallet failed! They had a system problem and that my deposit did not credit to my account even after 10 confirmations.

I haven't heard this wallet and it supports a lot of alt coins. So you will be having a one time wallet that can holds different crypto's? Sounds good but for me, I'll still go with blockchain.info though they are keep on recommending the right miners fee for all of us who are using it. When I'm not satisfied anymore with them, I'll migrate to other one.

When I hear that one wallet is for few/a lot of alt coins, for me this mean that this wallet is super-key for robbers. In other words - when something is to everything - is for nothing.
If someone like to have everything in one place - i understand that, but this places will never be secure. Wallets like this (In my opinion) have security on level 20%

Actually I don't have any idea with what he had mentioned, just google it for enlightenment. We all know that security will always be a matter of an online bitcoin and we know the risk of it. But if you think that percentage of online wallets is only 20% I don't think so. It really depends on how they are determined to give security for their users. And it looks like there are a lot of wallets that has been focusing more with the security.

Despite some bad comments i recommand coinbase. It's simple to use for receive and send transactions. And enough secure for this type of activity. I think coinbase is the number one for most people prefering online wallet. Of course be sure to read their TOS. I like as well cryptopay.me as i have a Visa card with them, making spending bitcoin more easy to me, POS/ATM

Yes agree, and I've been using coinbase more than 1 year, never encountered a problem, fee free, can receive and send bitcoin with email address so the easier than others.

The best online bitcoin wallet for me is blockchain.info this is what I've been using for a lot of months right now.

For me since I started to use this online wallet everything seems to be fine and there's no problem that I'd experience with it.

So this is what I recommend to my friends that wants to start bitcoin.

Coinbase is bad for people who believe in Bitcoin rather than a weak speculative investment.  It halts people's accounts for gambling and if it disagrees with anything you do with its wallet it can halt your account.  This is not the spirit you need from a decent Bitcoin wallet, never mind one of the biggest.  Not to mention that buying Bitcoin with it is very annoying and they can require some draconian ID verification.

No, it's a terrible time to invest in altcoins.

Altcoins are in the midst of a huge pump right now, and this is something that's going to end as soon as the FUD about Bitcoin ends and people start thinking more realistically about its prospects.

Coins like DASH will be out the door for any conventional purposes soon enough, not to mention that its high price is just an illusion caused by the low supply and instamine.

blockchain is the best solution for online btc wallet until now but for me personally i don't use blockchain, i use offline btc wallet because i don't like to save all my bitcoin in blockchain only, i want to spread it at more than one wallet. and beside that, i don't like new design in blockchain and i'd rather to use the btc wallet from exchanger.
