Title: Altcoin Hospital & Cemetery
Post by: bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc on December 02, 2016, 09:58:08 AM
I propose we make a thread where we figuratively list "sick", "dying", and "ded" altcoins. This to keep track of which coins are promising and which one should be avoided and made fun off (including the people who support those coins).

I would like to start this list with ETH, which I classiy as "sick".

I classify LTC as a "dying" coin.

I classify Doge as "ded". Same goes for NMC, PPC, and FTC.

Who supports these classifications?

I suggest we boycott self-moderated threads.

But sometimes they are essential. Some scam coins have access to so many puppet account they swamp a thread making the valid factual points very hard to find.

I wish we could choose "self-moderated for less then ______ level account", where we could chose to self-moderate Newbie and other junior account levels.

Then again I would be penalized if the chosen level is higher than Full Member, because I have abandoned so many of my accounts which make me Legendary (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=400235.msg16925985#msg16925985).

I totally support this idea, it should be a sticky thread in order to warn people not to waste their time in useless threads about dead coins, it may also warn the developers about the situation of their coin.
Does anyone know about the number of coins dead in the forum ? It should be around 200-300, this is why a classification would be a great idea.
I propose a classification as follows :

- Sick => Coins on DDos, stuck blockchain...
- Dying => Low community engagement, low thread, social media, forum, website activity ...
- Dead => No developer's communication, 0 buy orders, fled community ...

It can even be enhance by adding notes on criteria like :

- Economy => merchants adoption, exchange price, listed exchanges ...
- community => social medias, forums, threads activity, slacks ...
- Code => bug hunting activity, number of forks, hard forks, if in active development or not ...
- Team => are they communicating or not, is there a hierarchy or not, an activity meter ...

Really it can be a great project, and will higher the guidance levels for newbies or even for potential investors. I think you got something big.

Yes that would be a useful feature.

How come you abandoned anonymint? I guess that is the one most remember you from.

BTW seems that you were right on vcash and now even amp. I scaled back drastically my investment in both after reading your explanation of wouldn't work well as planned. Averted quite a loss (by my standards )at this point. Seems both core devs have gone a little haywire since. thanks.

also in reply to the OP.... this would be hard to get consensus on these definitions on each coin unless you came up with rigid criteria as above post suggests.

Politics could come in here, imagine if you are a dev of the coin and you saw your coin in the scam or dead coin section even though development is on process..

Let's admit it,all coins here are of equal chance to resurrect or relaunch again,if no one is going to have a coin in that wallet, then let it be buried in the altcoin sections.

Coin ressurection would be a great feature to add, i know about  lot of projects who are under ressurection process like FailCoin and 8bit, there are for sure other coins but this section is going messy with all these announcements, we don't even know if the launched projects are new or old ones, referencing and sorting these announcements would be really good for the community, especially for new commers.

Ressurection are the coins in the hospital. They still have a chance to be revived and their illness cured.
LTC for example is indergoing major chanegs and developments, after it was forgotten and neglected for years.

However, coins like FTC, NMC, PPC, etc. are completely dead. They are ripping in peace.

Almost all the coins are dead with the rise of bitcoin. Look at the price of the altcoins in Poloniex. Almost all of them are red and the prices are sliding downwards every day. Can you name me a coin that is good to buy at the moment? I do not see any when the price of bitcoin is so strong.

Yes I can, bitcoin seems like will difficult for buy them at a price was increasing like this time. My profit chance just appears in alt right now(little).
Green waves were happening with bitcoin. The alt chart was becoming opposite with it. ALL OF THEM WAS GETTING RED.

NMC is one of few coins with a real world purpose and brings a solution, maybe there is low trading activity but i would not consider it dead

A lot of altcoins are showing red but that does not mean they they are dying coins the price could be higher back then and it is now that their price is going down because of Bitcoin increase value and beside these alcoins are always bouncing back every now and then.

There is a thread listing dead coins, although the last post in it was on December 05, 2015. The coins listed in its OP would make a good foundation to build on if you want to include truly dead coins rather than only "ded" coins that still have moving blockchains. All the coins in that thread's OP are in the cemetery.

This is also a good idea to post what is an altcoin that is
alive or promising coin. Mostly altcoins are going dumped
because of bitcoin price is increasing. I dont know if LTC
coins still be back to its high price before, eth, doge coins,
lets observe this coins.

You are right, the price of a coin isn't a good health indice, community activity and Dev responce time are !

That's a good idea too, it will save a lot of time.

You know, LTC is here since a long time, its price doesn't really have a sence as long as the foundation exists to back it up.

All in all, i have just one question, when will we start ?
