Could it be that you tried Electrum a few months ago and set a password back then, before deciding to use another wallet?

If you have your seed you can restore the wallet and set a new password

Find your electrum.dat wallet file. Here is how to find it https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Electrum#Wallet_File

Rename it

Run Electrum and select the Restore option

so electrum is vulnerable, or is it a joke, or was it a trivial password?

Electrum itself is not vulnerable, but the password was relatively easy so I could use the bruteforce method.

It is not an Electrum password, it is an AES encryption with a easy password set

What do you mean by "easy password set"?

What do you mean by "easy password set"?

It means that the OP (or the person he stole the wallet from) chose a passphrase that was not long or complex enough to provide substantial resistance against brute-force password guessing.

The purpose of a password is to make your encrypted wallet data hack-proof even if stolen - this demonstrates that a weak password can result in your password only being a small impediment to a stolen wallet being emptied. A GPGPU miner's computers also are very good password crackers.

A brute-force attack on a stolen wallet password is much more feasible than an attack on a 128-bit deterministic wallet or a 160-bit bitcoin address, since humans are the weakest link when they get to type in their own password. A 16 digit Base36 password like a5dznckd2bm36aaw is still 42 trillion times easier to crack than a properly generated deterministic wallet (which is already 4 billion times + weaker than bitcoin-qt addresses).

Electrum only uses one round of encryption, unlike Bitcoin which uses 25000:

Code:
# AES encryption
EncodeAES = lambda secret, s: base64.b64encode(aes.encryptData(secret,s))
DecodeAES = lambda secret, e: aes.decryptData(secret, base64.b64decode(e))

Be careful the user you are trying to contact is no longer online since 2018.

If you want to recover your Electrum password from your wallet file there is a guide from Github that you can brute-force your wallet file.

You can follow the guide from here https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover/blob/master/TUTORIAL.md#btcrecover-tutorial

If there are some newbie trying to contact your through PM about your wallet be careful because they are a most likely scam.

elia94, it is not smart to bump so old thread, but when it is already done then I will ask you if you have Electrum installed and you are missing a password or you do not have a password and seed?

In case you only need a password, there is a chance for brute force - but only if it is a simple password or if you can at least roughly remember what characters the password consists of. If it's a password that has more than say 10 characters, and it's something like this: 6/.j%;ar?D5B, then it's an almost impossible mission. Your best chance is to try to find a seed or password, they probably exist somewhere.

The option I can recommend to you is also this service, so far it has proven to be honest and reliable - but as BitMaxz warn you, be very careful with everyone who will contact you, especially those who will seek communication via Telegram.

In this case, wouldn't restoring the wallet with the seed be enough? Or at least the fastest option.... Otherwise, the only case I can think a bruteforce attack would be necessary would be when he has neither the seed nor the password, but had the file.

Or as usual, I may be mistaking some concepts

Or as usual, I may be mistaking some concepts

Maybe I just expressed myself a little awkwardly, because I was just wondering if elia94 still has access to her wallet (which seems to be the case) or has no access to anything (no seed, password, wallet file) which then of course leads nowhere - a completely dead end. Of course the seed is the most important thing, we constantly emphasize this - regardless of losing the password, deleted wallet or lost 2FA everything can be fixed if you have the seed.

elia94, please read my previous post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170188.msg55533177#msg55533177) on page 1, there is someone who can help you - but as I already wrote, success depends on how complex your password is.
