Very good. I listened from start to finish and was engaged for pretty much all of it.

Funny thing is, i was communicating with a business owner on here recently, about the idea of a Radio Show, although mine would have been live.
I hope this can develop into a segmented package of guests, competitions, phone-ins, news, events, information, and even bitcoin adverts, maybe!

I will be listening again. Good luck with this.

Hi Stereotype,
We're radio-safe edited and the shows are available for commercial rebroadcasting.

This is the first of several shows we're rolling out, and this is the least produced.  By next week we should have music bumpers, a better intro, etc.   I'm actively looking for collaborators so if this is an area of interest for you please email me at adam@mindtomatter.org

Just today in the shower I was thinking "someone should start a good bitcoin podcast".  Thanks for reading my thoughts and making it a reality :)

A daily BTC seems to be a bit too much to me but I hope you can make it work with that format and wish you nothing but success.

Will update with my thoughts on the episode after listening.

It's a shorter show than I've done in the past - 30 to 45 minutes daily

We're also working on a weekly show which has some really neat things I don't want to give away until we get the funding sorted, but it will be audio/video

Should I make a new post for each episode?

Yes; keep us updated in this thread whenever you add another one.  You should also change the thread title :)

Great first show!! Two suggestions:
1. Make it weekly instead of daily.
2. Please add it to Stitcher Radio: that's the app we use to listen to all our podcasts.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!

I'm curious to why you'd want weekly instead of daily?   We're planning on having a weekly show also, but the focus will be more on new users and introducing new ideas into the bitcoin ecosystem.

I will add it to sticher radio, I have an unreal backlog of things to do - The editing schedule for these early daily shows is absolutely brutal.   If I was paying myself, we'd be broke.

Two reasons to make it weekly:

1. For you. So you don't burn out by having to produce a daily show with new content every single day. Your editing schedule is already brutal. Doing a podcast is such a huge task to conquer every single day. Plus, you can build up a much greater variety of topics by waiting to collect a week's worth of the most important & most exciting news about Bitcoin.

2. For us. A weekly show is more special & more newsworthy than a daily show. If it's a daily show, by necessity, we'll only be able to catch "some" of the episodes, because we just don't have enough time in the day to squeeze in an extra 30-45 minutes every single day. If it's a weekly show, it becomes a real event that we can schedule around and look forward to.

Just my two cents! Either way, great job with the first episode! :)

Yes, this should definitely be weekly. There just aren't that many news in the bitcoin world. Well sure, perhaps 2 last weeks with the price rally and all that, but not otherwise. I would hate to tune into your show a month from now and listen to pointless "fillers" which you will have to do because there won't be any legitimate news every day.

Finished listening, great show.  I liked some of the 'debates' you guys had if you want to call them that. some things i agreed with and some things i didn't but that's the beauty of a roundtable discussion.  I'm looking forward to the next epsiode and future ones to come.

I agree with others though that a daily podcast is probably too much. However, if you can pull it off and that's what you guys want to do then that's amazing and by all means do it.  I just feel like 1) it will burn you guys out  and 2) after a couple months worth of episodes what will there really be to still talk about, especially if bitcoin stabalizes a bit and the media frenzy dies down.

Maybe play around with that, maybe try once a week and see how it goes,  or twice a week, or 3 times a week.

Do you guys have a twitter account?  That's usually how i follow my favorite podcasts to stay up to date on whats going on. Also it's an AMAZING way to create larger fan base.

Maybe twice a week? Wed. Sat.?

Edit: actually after listening to the casual chat format (I liked it) maybe daily is possible (speaking from a listener's perspective this is). The grind of pumping it out might get to you but that is your call obviously.

Updated with the second episode

To everyone suggesting weekly shows - That was the original plan, and that show is in the works... more produced and segment based rather than discussion roundtable.

I think we're going to do a show every day for the week and then re-evaluate if it seems like there is enough news to justify it.  I'm not opposed to going to a 2-3 shows a week schedule, but at least in the beginning there *is* the content to justify it even if only because we're the only ones talking about it.

It is a pretty insane amount of editing, I will admit as the guy doing it.

Damn you for putting up epsiode 2  about 5 minutes before i leave for work. not enough time to download it and listen to it at work  :(.

All jokes aside, can't wait to hear it man. Keep up the good work, really excited to finally see someone doing a podcast like this. Will be fun to watch how it changes/grows over time.

Hi Mindtomatter.

Loved the show, very easy to listen to and understand. Great accents from all of you guys. Its got that warm sound and will no doubt get better as you tweak the settings and so on.

One question: Will you be uploading the show to more than one source? I like soundcloud and all that but my workplace proxy has different ideas  :o

Thank you for your praise, I really appreciate it.    Any critique you have is also welcomed, I thrive on criticism.

The show will be up on other sources, I just haven't had enough hours - Right now we're putting together the company and the initial budget, it's taking all of my time and I'm also the editor until we bring on a contractor.

I appreciate you hanging with us while we get everything in order, RSS and itunes and skitcher radio SHOULD be today.

We're doing this week worth of dailys, and then we're going to re-evaluate if we ran out of news, or feel like the workload is too nuts.    The intention is to hire an editor to take over the umms-and-ahhs removal from me, if that happens Daily becomes highly feasible for the long term without burning out.

I'm glad you like what we're doing

Yes, the plan is to accept advertisers - Not many, two 30 second slots per show between segments, the woman who did our intro and out-tro is going to voice the advertiser segments as well.

If you're interested in advertising with The Daily Bitcoin, please email adam@mindtomatter.org

Thanks everybody, What do you think of the new intro/outro/bumpers?   I've always felt introducing your own show is a bit like taking yourself to prom - Not exactly cool.

I like it a lot.

But the intro/outro/bumpers... I think you could just say "Ok, and now in today's news"

Also I find the editing a bit unsettling.
Are you editing between sentences, or are you all just talking very very fast?

Anyhow, those are very minor issues.
Waiting for today's episode!  ;D

There are 5-30 edits per minute to remove latency delays and filler phrases, right now it sounds rough because I'm doing most of the editing at the end of 18 hour work days - I know episode 3 had some echo issues because we upgraded Eli's microphone without knowing he was not using headphones - The better mic picked everybody elses's audio, I did my best to minimize the issue but it was still there.  That won't happen again as he understands the importance of headphones when recording.

The editing will get better, but I genuinely appreciate your feedback - I was wondering if I was just being overly critical.

I've been selling the sponsor slots for next weeks show (Bitcoinstore.com and Foxycart) in a desperate attempt to procrastinate some audio problems away.   Paul had a shit connection today, it's making the show difficult - We're looking at alternatives to skype because this cannot happen.

Thundertoe - Your show is interesting but a little hard for me to stay interested in.  I've done shows like that in the past and many times less is more, if you'd like to chat about strategies to help build an audience for your show I'd be happy to talk - I've been running multihost podcasts since 2005 and have a background in marketing and sales.

Other than that, good stuff.

I also think you'd be better off making it a weekly show though rather than doing a daily.

I quite like your fledgling show. I have 2 (very) minor tweaks to suggest.

1) There seems to be ~3-4 seconds of silence before the intro. Can you just trim that off?
2) It would be great if this show were somewhere that could be easily subscribed.

Keep up the good work.

Another great episode.

You arent being overly critical at all, there isnt really such a thing when talking about the quality of audio recordings, high fidelity is where its at! Apologies if I am about to be overly critical though.

Some of the jingles and DJ voiceover parts could use a bit of work. But you obviously expected some kinks that need to be worked out as this is brand spanking new.

The woman doing the intro could be cut about a minute earlier, I like the information she is giving me but she takes too long (maybe spread that clip out over the entire show, but split into smaller more digestable tidbits), and im also not sure about the part where she says "your blockchains are long", of course they are long, if they were short I would be listening to the daily freicoin show ;).

Also is that you doing the voiceover style parts such as "bitcoin booming" MTM? It sounds a little like you are forcing the "voiceover style" and that to me is a little bit ofa shame as you have a pretty good tone of voice for radio as it is :) don't try to make your voice sound like the typical movie voiceover guy and instead let it flow naturally ;D

Whatever happens, im a daily listener now lol, and I would have take the DEA approach regarding itunes and just say no to apple.

Keep up the good work you 3! (apologies if there are more than 3 of you lol)

I thrive on criticism so don't worry there - When you're talking about the announcer voice that was originally me, but we've cut all those parts - Were you talking about an old episode?

Right now I'm running non-stop to keep up with the editing schedule, today is the last day I'm editing-bitch, and I'm looking forward to improving some of these details when I have that time back.   The reason why (historically) I announcer-voice some things is because I don't like announcing myself - All of that has already gone away (unless i'm forgetting something in the last two episodes)

The format is really in flux, so while the content is pretty fixed at this point (News and discussion) all the details need work.

The team right now is three, next week we bring on Chris the editor and my wife as our office manager/my assistant - The response has been out of this world and I'm already falling behind on correspondence and promotion.

Yes tonights show I'm finishing up now is our first discussion segment, and it's entitled "Let's Kill Bitcoin!".  We're also featuring an interview with Andreas M. Antonopoulos, a security & decentralized systems expert to explain in detail about why Mt. Gox can't really be fixed, and how it differs from a functional model.  It's a pretty scathing critique to my ears, we offered Mt. Gox the second half of the show to respond but they declined.

This has been one heck of a week, this is our fifth show produced in five days and doing nearly all the technical work myself (Adam B. Levine) and then doing the shows as well has been quite a feat, but it's also been incredibly fun and absolutely exhilarating.

Thank you VERY MUCH for listening to our brand new project, the enthusiastic response has led us to decide that this is a worthwhile format that we intend to continue for at least the rest of the year. The hosts may change at times (Eli is getting married and going on a honeymoon next month!) but the point is this: Complicated topics need explanation, and it's not a one-time conversation that provides the whole picture.

Over the weeks and months to come, we'll be improving the quality of the show further and rolling out the Weekly Bitcoin show.

I am actively looking for those who would like to be audio journalists to work with me on that project - If you are interested, please email me at adam@mindtomatter.org. You do not need experience, or technical expertise - You just need to believe that most media reporting is unacceptably poor quality, and the want to change that for the better.

If that's you, this is your opportunity - Don't miss out.

To everyone, please share this with your friends and relatives and thank you for helping make The Daily Bitcoin show such a success in its first week.

SHOWNOTES:

Feature Friday!

Today the Daily Bitcoin Show is proud to feature an interview with security & decentralized systems expert Andreas M. Antonopoulos during the first half of the show

Wow great show to end the week. Really liked to hear what the guest had to say. Lot of good points about bitcoin exchanges being ran by people who aren't really well equipped to run an exchange.   Hopefully this improves as time goes on.

Great first show!! Two suggestions:
1. Make it weekly instead of daily.
2. Please add it to Stitcher Radio: that's the app we use to listen to all our podcasts.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!
I will add it to sticher radio, I have an unreal backlog of things to do - The editing schedule for these early daily shows is absolutely brutal.   If I was paying myself, we'd be broke.
That's one reason why it would be better to do a weekly rather than a daily.

Ive now listened to all the shows, some good material, esp in the last 2 shows. I like the intro music but the sudden shouting and screaming in the music spots esp for "the daily bitcoin news" is nerving and ruins it.

Also I find the intro is too long. Ive taken to jumping the first 1-2 minutes to avoid it. Make the intro too long and that's what people do, so it defeats the object.

Thank you for your feedback!  This week was about getting the shows out while finding the funding to do something this crazy thing for a long time - We were successful in both things, so this coming week is about two things
- Improving the quality of the content
- Spreading the word

Part of that is looking at all our clips and seeing how they've worked.  I already shortened the intro once, I'm used to doing a weekly show that is longer so I think that is more appropriate.  I'll be curious for your feedback after Monday's episode.

Had the great good fortune and pleasure to listen to all 5 episodes today.

Simply awesome in production and content, informative, entertaining and right on point, particularly enjoyed the "Andreas M. Antonopoulos" segment and hope he continues to contribute his very incisive comments.

All in all, a great effort and a great show, props to the three of you, loved the intros, not sure if I'm a Geek or a Freak, but it seems the only option is to get in, sit down, shut up and hang on, this going to be wild.

Andreas here,

Thank you for the support!

Our producer, host and leader Adam B Levine has done an incredible job with this show and with his entrepreneurial skills secured funding to make it last for at least a year. Having a high-quality and professionally produced show is critical for the success of bitcoin. I will continue to support the effort wholeheartedly.

Great show, love that you guys are doing this.

Just an FYI, I went to donate some BTC and all of your 'fund' buttons say they are for show 2. Now I appreciated them all, but it was the last one that got me to donate to you. If you are using this as a measure of what to talk to that people like, know that my recent donation was for show 5!

Thanks everybody!  We're having a great time doing the show

but....

I am not having a great time with the RSS and podcast feed thing, I've emailed Soundcloud and asked them to turn it on, paid for a subscription with libsyn and set up a feed that way and for SOME reason it is still not working.

I desperately hope to have it working by Mondays show, but right now I put my faith in Soundcloud to get back to me and enable us for podcast enclosures or a Libsyn ninja to appear out of the night and rescue me.

Any ninjas?

It's actually coming through properly - I just got three donations for Episode 5, but I forgot to change the label when I was making the buttons - The address is actually correct.

And we are tracking it as a metric, it's pretty neat that it's a metric and money at once.  Someone even sent a compliment with .01337 - Made me smile.

Really good show. Is the voice in the beginning Stephanie from Porc therapy?

Yes it is, and I just spoke with her today about joining the host rotation so we'll actually be dropping her as the voice in the intro (because introducing yourself is a bit like taking yourself on a date - not exactly cool)

Thank you for your comments NedKLee, I'm glad you enjoyed the first week of shows they were a whirlwind to make!

So here's a question - We're adding two sponsor slots to the show, each one 30 seconds that we produce in-house (Stephanie from Porctherapy writes and voices them), on bitcoin businesses.  There will be 1 minute total sponsor content in the 30-40 minute show used like bumpers between topics, one in the news and one in scuttlebutt.

Would that make you like the show less?  We're being very picky about our sponsors, and there are so many cool bitcoin businesses it seems like we'll get to pick who we work with especially since we're funded.  I had a friend of mine who really hated the idea and it hadn't even occured to me that people might react negatively to it.

This weeks sponsors are BitcoinStore.com and FoxyCart.com

No expertise at all in the production of radio shows/podcasts, simply a dedicated listener.

Seems to me that having quality sponsors would be totally within keeping of the spirit of the show, the " value for value" model may work in another place in another time, but lets keep it real, this is Bitcoin.

4 x 30 second spots in a +- 45 minute show would be totally realistic to me.

Nobody will mind you adding a minute or two of sponsors. It will introduce people to new bitcoin businesses. And it will hopefully help support your show.

When episode 6 will be out?

Title: Re: The Daily Bitcoin Show! Subscribe Now!
Post by: mindtomatter on April 16, 2013, 09:45:47 PM
After we recorded episode 6 it became obvious that the schedule I've set for us is not sustainable with the amount of staff we have working on the project.

I'm catching up on my sleep (which I have not been doing much of with the daily schedule) and we're discussing internally what release frequency we will return with.

We should have an answer by the end of the week, we're taking our time on this as some of my decisions leading up to this point have been made in such a rush as to be detrimental.

Sorry for the disruption in service, I want to be able to do the show for a long time and because of that it needs to be sustainable.

you can check it out at http://bitcoinupdate.com

we are in a continous process of making it more professional. once we reach a level we are confident with, we will actively promote it..

If the shows are less frequent it would be a nice treat if each episode was a little longer. After 30 minutes I'm always left craving more :)

Can't wait to hear the next show.

I think a weekly show is ideal, it means there aren't too many shows people have to download for a short space of time in order to keep up with the subject theme.

Also each individual show will get more exposure being a weekly.

Weekly also makes more sense from the production side.

I think it's a great opportunity and plenty of demand for this, so it should be a real hit.

re the point someone made about wanting the show to be longer,

it's always better to get down from the table still a little hungry.

ps. was interesting listening to the market commentary on the day just before the crash and then comparing with the day after the crash and hearing the different views. Hindsight is everything...

To maintain the daily nature of the show you could do brief news and update shows and a longer weekly discussion segment.

I like it a lot.

But the intro/outro/bumpers... I think you could just say "Ok, and now in today's news"

Also I find the editing a bit unsettling.
Are you editing between sentences, or are you all just talking very very fast?

Anyhow, those are very minor issues.
Waiting for today's episode!  ;D

I don't like listening to audio where normal speech pauses have been removed, just to shave one or two seconds off at each point.

It's ok to remove excessive um's, ahhs, coughs etc and redundant sentences, that's polished professional editing, but closing up normal speech gaps makes it sound plastic and stilted. It's like kind of GM genetically modified audio or something. They're messing with the food in the 21st century. Please don't mess with the audio as well.

You might as well speed it up and have the interviewer and interviewee talk like chipmunks, that would enable even more to be crammed into the available space.

If you want to save space, cut down the intro and remove the shouting/screeching bumpers as well. They jar on the nerves!

Quality, not quantity
How about a brief top ten news items, then some indepth discussion to follow.

Space saving has never been the problem, the reason why sometimes the audio sounds clipped is because some hosts use quite a lot of "filler" speech.  I generically refer to this as the "umms and ahhs" but it's actually quite a bit more, and it's not only a lot of time but it adds nothing to the listener experience.     When there is no gap between filler and content as is often the case, I err on the side of slightly clipping rather than allowing a little bit of the prior word.

But all that aside, the editing should get less frequent and better moving to a non-daily.   Update coming today, show returns beginning of the week.

Was episode 6 cancelled? I believed it was already recorded.
It is, half the content was requested pulled by the interview subject after he got cold feet, the other half requires editing but could be released.

Didn't read all the replies. Downloaded all 5 (right now available) episodes and am listening to the first one. I already can say: Great job guys. Very professional and objective. Great show for newbies and also for advanced 'coiners'. To take this further on I think you guys might have to be a guest on shows like 'Coast To Coast AM' from time to time to help people step by step understand a little bit more about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies at all.
