Title: Questions for traders
Post by: wallacedf on December 15, 2016, 11:35:40 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm getting to know better the market for cryptocurrency trading. In special, I'm really interested in understanding which are the biggest challenges/problems you face when trading. My intention is to study and analyze deeply these problems and evaluate potential solutions that will be valuable for traders, so it would be really great if I could get some feedback from you. So, basically, I have some few main questions but, please, feel free to provide any feedback you may want to.

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?
2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?
3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?

Thank you!
--------------------------------------

UPDATE:

I have been receiving great feedback! Thank you so much for this. Yes, I understand that everyone has a own strategy when it comes to trading, so I was really trying to understand better the difficulties you encounter. I think I'm starting to get some initial relevant ones.

Many of you said that watching prices closely, putting effort tracking many altcoins you hold and even acting fast enough can be tough. I have some additional questions:

1) Do you use some kind of bot or any similar tool to help with you decisions? If you do, do you think that this tool/bot that you're using could be improved somehow to help you even more?
2) If you don't use such tools, why would that be ?

Also, some of you mentioned that is challenge deciding when to buy/hold/sell your coins, specially when pumping and bumping are involved. I understand that prices are unpredictable, but even though, you probably use some kind of analysis or any source of information to help with you decisions. Some few questions:

1) If you're willing to reveal them, which sources do you trust when making your analysis?
2) How effectively do they help you today?
3) Which are the most difficult/time consuming/tricky tasks when you're actually collecting the info/making your analysis?

I'd like to thank you again for taking some time to put your feedback here.

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?
Bitcoin was general crypto. ICN, ETH, RIPPLE.
2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?
Minor to the Major exchange(Yobit, Bittrex, Kraken, Poloniex)
3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?
No, just use the standard technique, I think average price in the market for each coin wasn't having a large of gap.

In terms of trading problems, I can't pointed it out since there are lots but actualyl I don't treated it as a problem since it's part of trading activity.

1) Bitcoin and other alts

2) Bitstamp = Bitcoin / Polonies, Crytopia, CCEX = other alts since my preferred coins are not present on the said site.

3) Common Strategies. The point is, you have to monitor the price closely "especially" in other alts since price volatility there is most active compare to bitcoin today.

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?

bitcoin is the fixed one and all the rest are changing based on which coins are worth buying at that particular time.

Quote
2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?

bittrex

Quote
3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?

most I am looking for potential in altcoins to buy before the rise and sell on top, I tried some analysis but they usually don't work on altcoins.
and about arbitrage it is much harder and less profitable so I am not a fan of it.

Thank you!

1) Mainly bitcoin and some of the alts (PSB, NEM, ETH, Monero and other coins on ICO)

2) Formerly on Bitfinex but since lots of problems lately I transfer to Kraken. I preferred also Poloniex in terms of altcoin trades.

3) Focus and putting some time to monitor the price. Other alts have high rate of price volatility and prone to manipulation that's why we need to focus on latest trend to avoid being late.

Strategies vary per user. If you found yourself succesful in a strategy of yours just continue doing that.

Well, personally i like to margin trade Ethereum. It is quite volatile and has pretty good liquidity so I guess that is always a good combination. I never baghold any coins i trade because in my opinion in the long run bitcoin is going to outperform any altcoin.

Usually i use poloniex and bittrex, they are the two main exchanges I use.

I just use common sense. I'm not an expert, I treat trading as semi-entertainment.

Poloniex culd be a good platform for you to start. I see mayn other users suggest it also. I don't have any special tecnique, iz's just matter of experience and knowledege you get with time. Arbitrage trading could be very profitable but you have to fully enageged in it and at the moment this is not very profitable because differences are not so big. Just go slow, one step at the time to get as much exeperience that you can and the results will come.

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?
i am trading NSR, ETH, ETC, BTM, DOGE and many more, i only trade if i can see there is a chance i can make profit

2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?
usually i am trading in poloniex, yobit, and bittrex but sometimes i take a look in bleutrade and bter.

3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?
my strategies is simple, i bought when i see there is a sign to get up in price and i sell when the price i think its already up enough and i can take a profit. i don't use arbitrage trading because its too risky for me. the most difficult part is when we buy one coins in for example 10 satoshi but after that the price is down until 7 satoshi, its hard to decide to hold or to make cut loss because we don't know the price is still down or want to increase.

2. C-cex and Poloniex
3. Common ways on doing trading and people do have its own techniques and strategies they really differ.

Nowadays, I prefer to stay with Bitcoin only, small amount of which I still trade primarily at Btc-e. Earlier, I heavily traded dogecoins using arbitrage, and that eventually allowed me to earn around a dozen bitcoins starting with basically nothing, but later I decided to call it a day since it had been heavy on the CNS. Right now, as I said, I trade a fixed part of my Bitcoin stash (in percentages), so that I can always profit from both rises and drops in Bitcoin price. If you are going to use arbitrage yourself, you'd better find or develop a price tracking bot...

That will help you immensely

1) i have always been investing in bitcoin for long term and did a little short trading but didn't like it much. and as for altcoins i have been trading them actively before bitcoin started to move up like crazy. now i am staying away from altcoin market.
2) bittrex
3) if i can find a good arbitrage opportunity yes, i will pounce on that. but it is rare.

Thank you!
1. usually bitcoin but it all depends on the market trend because currently most of altcoins had down trend
and i must do small research to choose which  altcoins will be profitable for short trade

2. bittrex and poloniex for altcoins trading and local exchange to bitcoin trading

3. i don't have the particular strategy during my trading activity and i'm not working alone currently because there are my friends as traders
too and if i want to buy altcoins or bitcoin usually we will do small discussion untill we decide to buying or selling

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?
2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?
3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?
1) Mostly bitcoin and to hedge against bitcoin when bitcoin market is on dump, i hold few high volume altcoins.
2) Poloniex and bitfinex mostly but occasionally also bittrex and yobit.
3) Arbitrage trading can't give you much profit also it will require much more bankroll so i don't try to do arbitrage trading. Mostly i buy from exchange and sell it on local trading platform or directly to local guys at few % above the market rate.
4) Difficult part is to keep getting updated regarding variety of altcoins that you are holding or having close eye to catch some profit on swing.

Important lesson is not to buy when any coin is pumping/bumping and not to sell what you have when it is getting small dump.

1). It actually depends on the current market but as of now its mostly bitcoin and XMR, ETH, XRP , LSK are the coins that i think is promising

2).  You can try Poloniex and C-CEX since their site is easy to understand when it comes to newbies

3). Its nothing much just the common thing buy low sell high. The hard part I guess is You have to always keep watch of the market and

finding the promising coins when they are low

I am open to trade all kind of crypto currency, so basically I trade crypto currency based on the updated news, so I am not focusing on the coin but I am more focusing on the chart, usually I do my trade in bittrex or yobit because yobit got more alt coin than other exchanger and bittrex is a reputable exchanger, I usually just used speculation to trade I am still learning how to trade properly, so my weapon to trade are based on news and chart

To answer some of your question; as a trader you need to understand the fundamental laws of trading, that is:
1. Currency pair information: If you are trading bitcoin with other crypto currency? You need to know all information about the current state of those currency.
2.Right exchanger or trading site: Yobit is good for newbies and if you are a professional? Poloniex.
3. Good technical and fundamental analysis: Don't go into trade if you don't understand technical and fundamental analysis because there are what determined the market movement force and because of this I always place a trade after study market price action.
The answers to some of your question provided by other posters' are good but remember market has a mind of it Own and the best ways to trade is have a good money management policies in place.

Lisk has caused me to lose a lot of money, haha.

Since most people have answered the first set of questions, I'll try to take on the updated ones:

1) Do you use some kind of bot or any similar tool to help with you decisions? If you do, do you think that this tool/bot that you're using could be improved somehow to help you even more?
No and I'm skeptical of this.  What if something happened with the bot that caused you to lose all your money?

2) If you don't use such tools, why would that be ?
As above.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) If you're willing to reveal them, which sources do you trust when making your analysis?
Me, myself, and I
2) How effectively do they help you today?
It's been a heck of a ride
3) Which are the most difficult/time consuming/tricky tasks when you're actually collecting the info/making your analysis?
Trickiest task?  Making money ;)

1. LISK, ICN and of course, bitcoin.
2. I often use Bittrex, Polo and Bitstamp for trades.
3. Arbitrage I do a lot when there are some nice price swings happening in the market. But right now, I don't trade btc for the mean time and my sole focus is finding a nice coin to do some heavy trades on and potentially give me some hefty profits.

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you trade?
2) Which exchanges do you usually work on?
3) Which strategies do you use in your trades? Does it involve Arbitrage trading? What's the most difficult part of it?

-----------------

1) As of now the only withstanding coin in the market is btc and rest of the coin is just for the owner to earn profit as within no time their value becomes zero. (There are exception though to it)
2) Majorly localbitcoin is the best unless you have good local exchanges in your country.
3) No strategy based on demand and supply.
