Each project is unique, well funded and has a real world application. It's a deeply rewarding environment.

Yeah in a world where it is actually acceptable to get paid for your products prior to even having them conceptualized would be really rewarding! I wish my company could get that kind of faith from my customers.

Why work for Butterfly Labs?

There's nothing more rewarding than working on interesting projects, with the exception of showcasing your pride and joy at CES. Here at Butterfly Labs, we bring our experience almost to market for specialty applications in Industry, Education and Government, recently attempted to satisfy Bitcoin miners. Each project is unique, well funded (very well-funded now) and has a real and virtual world application. It's a deeply rewarding environment, and boy do we pile it on deep.

Please considering joining us, and don't bother bringing a feather--we have the whole damn chicken here outside beautiful Kansas City.

I already offered:

I'm going to go ahead and extend this offer now: Josh, if you feel like BFL is is trouble and you're not able to make the chips/boards/miners work, please, let me come and help you guys.  I can contribute quite a variety of technical and nontechnical skills.  My price is only one Single per week worked.  (Obviously if the project fails I lose too and get nothing.)  I will sign NDAs.

I made this same offer to Tom, but he did not accept.  Don't go out like that.

I have not yet received a response.

I do not doubt you would be a great asset. But...do you really think you can turn this company around?

We would need to clone you and replace every position available for it to work...

Engineer - Mandarin language skills (Must live in Asia, and access to an Avalon)
Engineer - North America     (bring an ASIC with your resume)

Kinda strange they require applicants to have an Avalon or ASIC. Could they be trying to fake numbers using an Avalon? Hrmm...

What's even more creepy is that I could do the same video, and with the except of hair length you probably couldn't tell either one of us apart. Second thought, my sister has some hair extensions she hasn't be using lately. Hmmm!

Why would BFL be advertising for these positions now, when presumably they are right at the end of the whole ASIC design and testing process?  Aren't the chips ready to be assembled on boards and they're just fine tuning power requirements?

BFL's new promise is to ship ready products to end users in the second half of April 2013.  The second half starts in 4 days time.  Are they ready?

Dear BFL

We have a special request that you may be able to help us with. We wish to design ASIC-based Bitcoin miners. Trust me when I tell you that we will be able to sell 1,000's of these kind of units. Money is not a problem.

Would you be so kind as to provide us a fuzzy date as to when you can complete such a large order.

Our 22 people look forward to hearing from your 22 people, whereupon we'll pay via Mt. Gox who also has...wait for it...22 people.

Sincerely,

RusticASIC AB/Ltd./Inc.

They've had these job listings on the website since they first formed, presumably to lend credibility:

Same with the "consulting" stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't really presume to speak for BFL in regards to shipping dates or specs, so I can't really comment on that one way or another. As far as I know, they still have a target date for shipping product prior to the end of the year.

My statement about it being a cluster fuck was more about the conditional issues, such as an independent customer with community trust - who is that?  Do I qualify?  What if i don't decide to purchase a unit until Jan 4th?  What if the first batch goes to private companies/individuals that wish to remain anonymous and we don't see a public unit until later - or alternately, what if they are shipped to a bunch of unknown people with no community trust?  Joe Bitpack can post here saying he got a unit and it works as advertised, but who is he?  Ultimately, what if there is a quantity problem?  If there's only 3 unit available prior to Jan 3rd and all three go to anonymous people - and all three happen to satisfy the requirements - the bet would be false, yet no way to confirm that.

I'm not saying any of these things are true or that's what will happen, I'm just illustrating the problems with the conditions of the bet.  Also the precision of the bet is somewhat difficult.  What if one measurement is a peak of 1.04 GH/s or max draw of 19.9w?  But if someone else measured it, they'd likely get different numbers.

Conditions should probably be in a range, not specific numbers.  Verification should probably be handled differently (not sure how off the top of my head, though).

That's all I meant.

EDIT -

Also, admittedly, I can't quite wrap my head around how the weighting system works as far as payouts go.

They may as well not release the miner that was order and just used them for their own mining.. since their chip can't   and not getting any new orders either... Josh is a smart Butterfly

Man.. are you both serious?  I know it is hard to pick up on sarcasm via the internet.. but shit.. this is most OBVIOUSLY a joke.  Please read the link.

On topic though.. that was pretty funny.  Kind of rare when something from bitcointalk makes me laugh but judging by the two quotes above I can see why.

Why would BFL be advertising for these positions now, when presumably they are right at the end of the whole ASIC design and testing process?

Presumably because as soon as development is wrapped up with the 65nm product series, they will likely be trying to develop a next generation chip and new boards to go with it.
