Title: unconfirmed / pending transaction stuck
Post by: schmock on December 26, 2016, 04:27:07 AM
Hi guys,

yesterday I made a bitcoin transaction with Electrum but I was so silly to set the transaction fee to 0.. Now the transaction stucks how I can resend it or how I can cancel it? I tried to delete the appdata folder and load the wallet from the server again but they stored the unconfirmed transaction :(

Blockchains says: Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: Fee is too low. Minimum fee is 1.5 satoshi / B. Is: 0.0

Is there anyway to remove the transaction that Im able to make a new transaction?

Best regards,

Transaction ID?
Try switching servers manually till you find one that doesn't have the transaction and resend.  If you can't find it then wait a little longer before trying again.

So I should change the servers manually in Electrum and just look where the unconfirmed transaction not appears? Is this right?

Is there a option to abbort the transaction?

Yes, but:

Right now there's more than 1100 nodes with that transaction so you might have to wait (click the icon beside "Confidence" to see it).

No, there is not.

You should never delete the electrum folder under appdata unless you've backed up your seed/wallet files. Also being rejected by blockchain.info doesn't mean your tx is rejected by all nodes.

What version of electrum are you using? Sending with zero fee is no longer allowed in the recent version to my knowledge.

I'm not sure as to how Electrum treats unconfirmed transactions when the server is changed. You can try.
Is there a option to abbort the transaction?
Otherwise, I have a decent method that you can try.
1. Disconnect Electrum from internet.
2. Go to %appdata%/Electrum if you are using Windows.
3. Go to wallets and copy out your wallet file to a safe place.
-Warning. This can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing or do not have a backup-
4. Open your wallet file in the %appdata%/Electrum/Wallets with a text editor.
5. Find f890011a4179e093f92a22be1e7f2c868af9929f1f2c173616a5968be934b704 with your text editor.
6. Search and delete it without modifying the [ and ]. So, for instance,  I want to delete aac49, delete the [ and the ] part.
Code:
[
                "b47ef0f12d433efdb6fa36f827ae56569e99d638430f5a5638608ce98d60613d",
                444897
            ],
            [
                "aac49e53d2c98a9355392160dd7fdb00a3ddb6455d21f0cc58c32769eed43d43",
                444999
            ],
            [
                "153d5a1a8280d8100603be884d4d96d4acaff39a2700354413524d51c0a7e141",
                445118
            ]

It will become
Code:
[
                "b47ef0f12d433efdb6fa36f827ae56569e99d638430f5a5638608ce98d60613d",
                444897
            ],
            [
                "153d5a1a8280d8100603be884d4d96d4acaff39a2700354413524d51c0a7e141",
                445118
            ]
7. Do this such that you are not ruining the syntax.

Can you explain that more precisely to me? Afterwards I  get the coins back? How long does it take for 1100 normally?

2.7.12 I recently download it so it is possible :)

Is there a way to resend it with higher fees??

Bitcoin reference nodes do not relay transactions that spends the same inputs as another transaction that is confirmed or is in the mempool unless Opt-in RBF is enabled. Hence, those nodes will not relay any double spends that you attempt. Once the nodes drops your transaction, you should be able to spend the Bitcoins again with no problem.

It can be dropped in 48 hours as long as no one rebroadcasts it.

I believe they do, as long as it meets the free transaction policy.

Not with great certainty.

If all else fails and you don't want to wait 24-48 hours, you can just try contacting a miner to get your transaction included in their block. Quickseller (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=358020) and macbook-air (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16114) are known to be able to help with that (they may require a small fee). Just send one of them a PM.

If you did this and the transaction just reappeared, make sure you stay offline then create and sign another transaction just like the one you posted offline without broadcasting (use the preview button), and copy the raw transaction and submit it to https://blockchain.info/pushtx . Since bc.i doesn't have that transaction, their nodes will accept it. The transaction won't be propagated to the majority of the network unless the previous transaction get dropped though.

Hey thanks for the explain :) I edited the file and now I have the bitcoins in my wallet and no unconfirmed transaction. Can I do a transaction to another wallet now or should I send to the old receiver but the a fee?

Is your electrum still offline? If so create a transaction just like before to the old receiver and click "Preview" and "Sign". After that click "Copy" then submit it to https://blockchain.info/pushtx .
If your electrum is online and the transaction is not reappearing then try sending normally. The result will be the same in the end if you successfully broadcasted.

Now I created a new transaction to a different wallet, below you can find the tx :)

https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/7b7f2462193b2f2b31832ecaae96dfb265dd1abd577bf6c86279e9c05f0460e5/

But now there is a message:
" WARNING: This transaction has been double-spent by f890011a4179e093f92a22be1e7f2..., be extremely careful when accepting this transaction! "

Will it be processed ?

The message is a warning that appears when there's a conflicting transaction. Only one of the two transactions will be processed (confirmed).
The new transaction is using the recommended fee of 70 sat/byte so it should confirm faster than the older one (probably in few hours or less).
