Try https://localbitcoins.com/. It lets you buy bitcoins for cash in person.

BitInnovate (https://www.bitinnovate.com/) and SpendBitcoins (https://www.spendbitcoins.com/) let you buy bitcoins by depositing cash in their respective bank accounts.

Ive used spend bitcoin a fair bit. Go into bank with cash. Deposit to your address va la. Banks dont require ID or anything like that to deposit.

Having said that I notice the rates on spend bitcoin are now way out of whack with the Gox.

While some of that statement is true, if you do deposit or withdraw more than a certain amount, the institution is legally bound to report it to AUSTRAC.

To my understanding about AUSTRAC, keep the transactions under $5k and you should be fine.

This is the case with bullion dealers but with banks it might be $10k, do note quote me on that

http://blockchain.info/

Once you're comfortable with the workings of BitCoin, I would recommend changing to a "paper wallet".

I can vouch for www.spendbitcoins.com too as a merchant, unfortunately he uses the MtGox 24 hour high exchange rate which means you won't get a good price with this market.

I have come across them before, but never used them. They look reasonably legitimate. Registered office address is in Chippendale. Registered 30/08/2012

I'd be more curious to know if anyone has sold coins to them before (ie. how quickly and reliably they pay out in AUD).

I have several times. They've always paid the same day, though most banks take 1-2 business days to actually credit your account.
