Title: Cost of .bit domain?
Post by: CptHook on June 15, 2011, 07:36:26 PM
I can't wrap my head around this namecoin thing..

What I need to know is:

- How much does it cost to register a .bit domain?
- What is the upkeep on a .bit domain?
- Can the price vary? If so, how much?
- Can i trade USD -> NMC, or do i have to do USD -> BTC -> NMC?

Hope you can answer some or all of the questions..

Thanks,
CptHook

Last answer is USD > BTC > NMC

.bit registration price depends on current namecoin block. Price is currently 17.98 NC, and goes down with every passing block. Once a name is registered, its registered.

So there is no upkeep, then?
I am sure I read somewhere that a domain only lasts for 12000 blocks.. What does that mean, then?

After 12000 blocks, the name expires (all dns records have an expiration date, after which the record is not valid). It can be updated and reset; that costs .01 NC.
