Title: Bitcoins for $0.25
Post by: Gamerholic on April 12, 2013, 02:28:31 PM
It was just a matter of time before games started offering bitcoins as prizes. http://www.Gamerholic.com (http://www.Gamerholic.com) is the 1st.
It's like the modern arcade. Set the high score in simple games like simon says, tetris and more.
Make real money when others fail to beat your high score, Go on a win streak and win 1 bit coin.

Interesting... But how much does it cost to play? How many bitcoins are spent for every one that is "won"?

It's $0.25 to play. You can play for free all you want to practice. Insert coin when you are ready.
Bitcoins aren't accepted YET as a form of payment.

have been offering bitcoins as prizes since 2011.

LOL cool. The dragons game looks cool

The top scorer is only a handful of wins away from winning the bitcoin.

Simon says is a little tough. High score is 10.

More bitcoin games are up. Win 1 bitcoin in Simon Says or 2 bitcoins in a game of snake.

Set the high score, make real cash each time another player fails to beat your high score.
Go on a win streak and win bit coins.

$0.25 to play the simon says game

$0.50 to play the Snake game.

Each time someone fails to beat your score you earn a % of the play fee. Go on a win streak
& win a prize.

This format is 24/7. After a winner is determined. The high score is reset to a lower starting score and the contest continues.

You can currently set the high score in Simon says to win 1 bitcoin or set the high score in a snake game to win 2 bit coins, or
set the high score in a rapid math game to win 3 bitcoins.

Click the more prizes tab, to see all the prizes you can win.

I checked the site out and noticed that there is no high score for the snake game. Does this mean if a go there right now and set the high score I get 2 bitcoins? Seems too good to be true  ;D

No, you won't get 2 bitcoins just for setting the high score. You have to go on a win streak to win the coins. Each time someone fails to beat your score your win streak is +1.

So, you play the game for $0.50, if you set the high score you get your $0.50 credited back to your account.

Each time someone fails to beat your score, you earn a % of the $0.50 they used to play.

Go on a win streak and win 2 bit coins.

I also didn't get that timer thing either. Does that mean after 4:00 minutes the game stops?

Gambling bitcoins is pretty cool for those of us that got in the game so late. Mine a few thousandths of a coin and let it ride! Satisfies my gambling urges with 0% real risk.

This is just a platform for gambling. Obviously, the expected return for the gambler is negative.

Not if you are a really good player :)
I think that skill-based 'gambling' is just starting...

You are right, it's 100% skilled gaming. The outcome is based on your skill not luck or chance

sounds like a interesting concept but i found the site too confusing and didn't really know how it all works.

for example i was playing some snake for free and noticed theres high scores for day/week/month etc etc. which high score am i suppose to be looking at.

also do i have to get the #1 score.  what if i play snake for example and it get the number #2 sscore and then people play after me and can't beat my score, do i earn money or no.

also i didnt know how to find all the different games.

i think if there were some tutorials on how it really works. maybe some youtube videos showing you the process etc etc. i would give it a try.

also can anyone confirm that they've actually won anything and been paid out.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll work on your suggestions.

The Leader board is just under the game when you scroll down a bit. That's the leader board you go by.

As long as you get on the leaderboard, you make money when others fail to beat your score. You could have the 2nd, 3rd, 4th highest score and you'll still earn money when others fail to beat your score.

Click on the 'More Prizes' tab to see other games and prizes

The 1st bitcoin was won yesterday.

We've been in business over 3 years. We started as a competitive console gaming platform. Play games like madden, 2k, cod and other games for money in heads up games and tournaments. We just recently added the high score arcade.

First post, woot.
I am the Winrar!!
Notified them of my bitcoin address and crossing my fingers!
Spoke to admin today, nice fellow.

I can second what BTCisthefuture said about finding the game being unclear (for your reference you click "More Prizes" to see the different prizes and the games associated with them).
To put it simply each prize has its own game room. The sites got some bugs I've noticed, like when you complete a game the submit score box sometimes pops up BEHIND the flash game, so you have to minimize the browser window and then un-minimize it again to see the box and press the ok button. If you don't do this in time it wont save your score =(
So that sucks. Otherwise its pretty frickin neat. I'm sure they're gonna get more games as well.

I plan to win all the prizes =D
NO ONE CAN STOP ME!!
heh, definitely do suggest checking it out though.
I'll post back here if/when i receive my prize.

I tried the snake game but the controls seem pretty unresponsive. Like I'll have to press the up arrow a few times so it finally responds. The math game is pretty fun though. Still gotta practice to reach high score material :D

This site is pretty awesome, I like the way it works. I got 50c for  leading in one of the free entry ones for some reason.

You just have to be good at the games, I mean it's not really that hard, they are basic simple games like snake or maths haha.

The best part is when you enter, even if you dont beat the highest score, you will still be in the leaderboard and anyone that falls below your score you will get some $$$ which is neat.

It's win-win pretty much. I'll have a go on it more later ;P

Please fix issue for Metal Cube Mania... The ball, every single time, for anyone, will follow the same pattern, and the score won't go above 620. When you reach 620, the ball gets stuck at the same spot back and forth...

The snake game also has issues, if for example the green dot is at the top near the edge, when you get to it, you will get stuck and cant move or do anything. Sometimes, when you move up a level, the snake will spawn right infront of the border/edge and you will no time to change directions or it wouldnt change direction at all.

Game developers are starting to add their games, so very soon the above issues will dissapear

Aww iphone game is gone =(

The snake game does have an issue where it prematurely ends after reaching above 4000. As for when the ball spawns right on the edge, that's just sort of unlucky. Some times i can go up and turn and the snake overlaps the edge but the game doesnt end, and sometimes I know I've pressed turn well before the edge and it still hits the edge. If you get a green ball on the edge your game is pretty much over. You can keep trying as many times as you like within the 4 minutes though. So just try again and hope u dont get a ball on the edge.
But if the game always ends when you pass 4000 points, whats the point? its kind of unfair.
Lots of bugs for them to iron out with these games.

OMFG! ITS NOT BROKEN!!
I just figured it out (and consequentely set the high score).
Gamerholic it might be a good idea to explain how the games work in more detail.

For everyone whos been pissed off by snake 20-20 the game works like this:

There are 4 "rounds" each round is from 0 to just passed 1000 points.
For example, 0-1052, 1052-2017, 2017-3101, 3101-4056
Each ball you get is worth some amount based on how long it takes you to get it (i originally thought it was based on how many turns it takes, but its definitely based on time).

After the fourth round the game ends.
Thats about it.
Its not an unending "Try to last as long as you can game". It's a "Score as much as you can within the allotted turns" game.

I had this problem at first as well. What you need to do is minimize the browser window (just click it on your start menu or whatever) then un-minimize), the score accept screen will be there. It seems to pop up UNDER the game screen =S
you have to do this quick though, because the timer is still ticking.

Thanks for the GREAT feedback

can you play for free?

You can play for free as much as you want to practice. There are even free games where you can win prizes.

Not amused.  Pay with bitcoin, withdraw cash only with $10-15 fee?  Performance based on portal to external site's game, with time limit eaten up by random ads?  Bleh.

Withdraw fee is $0, $3 within 24 hours. That's on the FAQ page, but the info wasn't updated on the withdraw page. Our apologies for that.
Initially we were a console gaming service for madden, cod, nba 2k, fifa etc money games on xbox and 360. The withdraw fees you saw for that was for console gaming.

Withdrawals via bitcoin is something we are talking about now. I'll keep you updated.

New games coming very soon

Yea it doesn't work for my friend either. But it works for me so I don't know?
My friend said they refunded some of her entry fees though.

As for it being a scam, I've already got 1 btc from them and I've got another one coming to me.
They are pretty new so I think they are still ironing out the bugs.

Whats your user name? We'll get it resolved
Hey, I had the same. Yesterday I scored 15 with Simon Says. Today I played twice, scored 8 and 10. But I didn't see the 'submit your score' box at any attempt!

Can you please look into that? (username = "Bernard", named after this famous hero (https://i.imgur.com/GCv3kwb.png) ;))

Also, some feedback on the site:

1. It's pretty unclear whether you're only playing in trial mode (i.e. for free) or whether you're actually playing in paid mode, i.e. competing for the highscores & payouts. The timer countdown at the left, exactly what does that do when you hit 0:00 ?

2. It's kinda bad that when paying, you still have to waste time watching the ads :( Please consider skipping the ads in paid mode (this will also help with the previous point, to distinguish between paid vs trial/free play)

Other than that, I like the concept! And currently proud holder of Rapid Math #1 highscore :)

I used a fresh e-mail when I registered with this site. It got about 50 e-mails last week of the malicious kind (Phishing for my passwords  ::)). No other site had this e-mail so it's pretty obvious what you're doing gamerholic >:(.

Also, I held a high score streak and won nothing no prize, the streak bar just reset.

Just giving everyone else a heads up.

This is the 1st EVER complaint of this. Our fb page as over 2700 folks, not one has mentioned this before. Twitter over 1600 again not one mentioned anything about phishing emails.

What's your user name?

If the win streak was reset, that means someone else beat your score.

If my score was beat, why does it still show up as the high score, but the streak counter is reset? Also, how do you have so many facebook fans, but barely anyone playing the games? Even your site is all buggy. Clicking on 'Tools', goes to the 'About us' page. There is no page to withdraw that I can see, but there is a page to deposit.

What's the link to the game you played?

There's nothing we can do about who plays the games and who doesn't.

Tools button is a drop down menu that shows you were you can edit your profile and the withdraw page.

We don't mind feedback, there's a chat system on the site with an admin on most of the day. If you have

I read the box that says "How to play Simon Says"

It says, and I quote: "Follow the pattern of lights and sound as long as you can..."

You are correct that I did not click the ambiguously-labelled button "Rules" to learn how to play. No, to learn how to play I clicked the button that says "How to play". So yes, in a sense, you are correct that I did not read the hidden instructions on the need to crash the game to be able to submit my score.

Just to be clear - which I know is not something you are fond of - to properly compete on your site I must read the rules of each game to learn how to crash each game so as to submit my score?

Just to be even clearer, I DID crash before the timer with a higher score. The submit button NEVER SHOWS for Simon Says.

My account is still active. As the user.php page is still 404, I cannot remove myself from your site. If I click "Edit Profile" I am presented with some rather eye-opening error messages.

Please delete my account. Thank you.

Thank you.

When you logged in an admin sent you a message in the chat system, there was no response.

I am unaware of a chat system on your site. There is a forum with three messages in it, but none of them refer to me.

Your "rules" tab for every game are all the same rules, they all have the Simon Says rules. You may want to correct this.

The error is a missing top_header file that goes like this
<? include('top_header.php') ; ?>

if top header is not on the server and top header has the config.php file then you won't be able to connect to the database.

FBipList.php tells us how many IP addresses a user signed up with.

I don't need the timer, I just use sound color coordination. The process is similar to photographic memory, but not as accurate. It allows me to gain a high score, but only after a certain amount of tries. If I were to go at it again, I could probably score higher. I consider writing it down cheating, and I am guessing the creator of the flash game does too, hence why there is a timer.

Maybe I'm just in denial but I don't really consider it cheating.  The timer *does* exist so writing it down and repeating it is a skill/challenge in itself.  I still have to remember the color, pattern, and "melody" if I want to get a respectable score.  3 minutes goes by quick.

Cheating is tough on out service. We have a score tracker in place. Each time there is a score change we know.

If your score was 100 5 seconds ago and now it's 10,000 the tracker will pick that up.

It's not gambling. The outcome is based on your skill so you are fully in control.

+ Keep in mind each time another player fails to beat your score you make money.

So you could spend $0.25 someone fails to beat your score 3 times and you made your $0.25 back.

I have been having fun playing some of the games on your site. But I also have some complaints. Besides what have already been said in this thread, i.e. that the rules need to be updated (the rules are the same as Simon Says rules for every game), I have been having trouble with submitting my score in Asteroids. I clicked the submit score button but nothing happened (I also tried purposely losing at the end to crash the game, like the rules says to do for Simon Says before submitting). It would be great if you could make the scores submit automatically after the time is up, so we don't have to worry about submitting the score in time and purposely losing at the end).

You are absolutely correct. Sorry about that the rules have been updated.

You can click the submit score button at anytime to submit the score. The score does submit automatically when the timer expires.

Can you make a profit off this game if you're good enough?

I'd say yes: The entry fees on the challenges range from 0.25$ to 0.75$. If you set a new highscore it seems that you get your entry fee doubled right away.

There are two kinds of win systems:

In the "Top Spread" games you must attain a win streak of X people trying and failing to beat your score to get a big price. The prices are gift cards mostly, there is one Tetris and one Asteroids challenge for 1 BTC and a Tetris Challenge for 250$ currently. In addition the top 5 in the leaderboard get paid money to their balance for every player that tries and fails to beat their score.

In the "Bonsai" games the entry fee of everyone that fails to beat the current highscore is added to the jackpot. The person to hold the Highscore at end of round (60 minutes as far as I could observe) get's the jackpot.

The games currently on the site are: Tetris, Asteroids and Simon Says.

So yes this thing is completely skill based. If you're good at playing those games you likely come out at a profit.

Edit: @OP If it is possible I suggest you change the thread title to "Win Bitcoin by playing Asteroids and Tetris". Because the current thread title might look like a scam to people knowing that Bitcoins are worth more than 0.25$ and they're likely to not even look at it. At least that was the case for me. It took me a second look at the post count to look at it, because with 10 pages of replies there must be something interesting in here.

Reason for Edit 2: corrected descriptions of the challenges.

Thanks for the awesome comment. If you set the new high score, you get your play fee credited back to you.

Nice to see it growing. Pocket rocket is a nice mixture of Snake and Tron, but kind of hard, I will need a lot of practice.

Wcave is one of those "fly something through a cave" games, press a button to fly up release button to go down, dodge obstacles. In this instance it's a string of 7 dots. It has a nice minimalistic look.

I have a suggestion for the site. I think you should merge the bonzai games and the regular win-streak games. As it is now, if you score a very high score in a win streak game, people will get scared away from playing that game, since they probably wont be able to beat the score, and if they do beat the score, then even fewer people will play it and they wont make any money anyway. On the other hand, the bonzai games always rewards a high score, since you will get the money when the time expires, but the starting pot is too low to make it lucrative for the players. I realize you can't have many dollars in the starting pot each hour. My suggestion is therefore that you change the games so that you win the prize in one of the ways; either if you reach the win streak, or if you are number one when the time expires (for example after a week). That way the players wont be scared away, since they will have a better chance of winning the gifts.
-Bertel

Edit: Also, I liked the free games with prizes a lot. You should do more of those. To really make your site better you need more customers/players, and this might be a good way, as well as my suggestion above.

Well the flaw in your idea is that also in the Bonzai Games, if you set a highscore that's the highscore to beat for everyone that plays after you until the timer runs out. It just isn't properly updated on the fron page display. So even if you combine both modes it doesn't change the fact that as soon as someone sets a high highscore you have to beat that score in order to get anything.

But you are right the site needs more players, and I agree that high highscores will scare people away, when they can't get close to that score in free play.

This is why I posted my strategy for tetris on the site's forum.

Good idea. As the site grows the starting pot for bonsia games will get higher. Otherwise it will just be one or two people playing to win the $5 or $10 starting pot.

Folks shouldn't get intimidated by the top score. Keep in mind even if you don't have the top score, you'll make money as long as you are on the leaderboard. So you could have the 3rd or 4th highest score and still make money.

Bitcoins will be remove as a prize for a short while, while we try and get the limitation removed that paypal placed on our account.

Giving away bitcoins as prizes is an issue with paypal.

The high score arcade is also on our Dreamybids.com (http://Dreamybids.com) site. This is a pretty innovative auction game.
You get 2 free bids when you sign up. Take your bids in the arcade and play some games. Earn bids each time another
player fails to beat your high score.

Then use your bids to win items up for auction. These items include bitcoins and other prizes.

Paypal is no longer a payment processor we use. It would be REALLY awesome if our Gamerholic.com (http://Gamerholic.com) & Dreamybids.com (http://Dreamybids.com) platforms
get support from the bitcoin community.

I personally want to put my foot up the you know what of a paypal higher up for a MAJOR inconvenience caused.

$1.25 in payments received for an arcade is evidently cause for alarm with them.

Agree with you did not do anything wrong so when the CEO said we are considering allying with bitcoin that was a big fat lie out of the horses mouth, many people have issues with paypal locking their accounts best way is to show them the error of their ways and just abandon I hope the community helps out as well

You can still win bitcoins cheap on Gamerholic

Gamerholic is now a virtual currency arcade.

Set the high score, earn tokens each time another player fails to beat your score.

Trade in the piles of tokens you won in the arcade for gift cards or bitcoin.

You can literally get bitcoins for $0.50, $0.25 or even $0.

You get 2 free tokens when you sign up.

Take your tokens in the arcade and get on the leaderboard.

Imagine dozens of people at the same time trying to beat your score.

You will earn the tokens you need to trade for bitcoin within 10 mins.

It's a different way of mining for coins.

This is just a platform for gambling. Obviously, the expected return for the gambler is negative.

Not if you are a really good player :)
I think that skill-based 'gambling' is just starting...

You are right, it's 100% skilled gaming. The outcome is based on your skill not luck or chance

Tetris is 100% skill? One could argue that the pieces are generated with a random number generator. Does each player get the same pieces in the same order? Are the pieces disclosed before the game begins?

Set the high score in tetris, hit the win streak and you'll win 1 bitcoin.
