Title: Would you still use Bitcoin if price would be stable for years?
Post by: Senor.Bla on January 20, 2017, 06:36:53 PM
I think most users are involved in Bitcoin not because they belief in the technology, but because they hope the price will go thru the roof. So let us say the price would be at $900 for the next 50 years.
Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

EDIT: Poll added!

Maybe yes. Or maybe no. The price would be one of the less worrying factors... I will say yes because 900$ is quite a high price and a nice price in 50 years probably means that the currency has been developed thus far and is useable (and that's what will really matter tomorrow, and in 50 years, not so much the price or the volatility, or lack of it).

That's the trader's mind. Honestly, we have still the other way to trade behind using bitcoin for the general trade. I will still use it because there are a lot of the sources to trade. I will never leave it.
A lot of the bitcoin's advantage have helped me a lot.

yes, it's possible. bitcoin has flexible functions. although the price is not rising, but there are still many advantages contained in bitcoin. example is the transaction. the orangutans as possible can take advantage of the singer to review transactions online. I think, there are many who will buy it.

I think it is not possible bitcoin with fixed price, but there are many things to do with bitcoin, no one knows what will happen last 50 years, Maybe this period of time, there will be shops which will use bitcoin only, so my answer is yes, I will use it

Of course yes, I still using even there is no movement of price for years. I would not hope that I could earn a bitcoin for only storing it. I earn investing and trading cause I know I really earn on that way. I also working hard by collecting bitcoin. And because the bitcoiners is convert his money to bitcoin not by just convert they convert for a reason.

I do leave it 4 years ago when the price goes down and to busy collecting BTC again
but then the price goes up, and I regret that I dont have a single satoshi, and now I get back to collecting BTC and will try to use the price to my profit instead to leave it and regret again  ;D

Moreso that I will be more inclined to use it, assuming that many others are already using and accepting it and if the transaction times don't take too long. Bitcoin right now is more of an investment  because of the ever fluctuating price, but when it stabilizes, I would not hesitate on using it more often as an alternative currency.

I don't think BTC price is the most important thing, anonymous nature, Decentralization, ease of use, low transaction cost etc are features that people see and attractive to BTC users, I believe if the price is stable which I doubt is possible because of law of demand and supply, people will still use BTC

More than 75% of the Bitcoin community are traders and miners who depend on the rise and downfall of the market. They see it as an investment rather than a currency to use. There are very fewer people who use it for just buying stuff so I don't think it will survive if it gets stable.

I personally think that I would certainly be using Bitcoin regardless of what the value would be at any given time. If it sinks too low then I might have an issue and be less interested in doing anything with it, but if it was stagnant anywhere as low as even $500 I think I would keep using it.

That's my opinion though, of course. No idea what I'd actually do.

It would be great assurance for the further transactions and yes I would still use bitcoin in such case. Price matters while trading or doing any transaction and if it's stable then it would be the ideal situation for bitcoin to be accepted as currency. I mainly use bitcoin because it's is easy to use and cheaper than fiat, especially on the international level.

How do you get that figure dude, you do not even consider the gamblers which is also big in my opinion. Some could earn in trading but there are losers also as that is how it goes in this crypto world. Not all of us are earning or making money, some are just here to spend especially in gambling

what you need to know is that bitcoin is money an as money people will continue using it no matter what the price is and how it changes.

and also knowing that bitcoin is money, you can look at other currencies. such as USD, ... they all have nearly stable prices (except from occasions) but they are still being traded. you see lots of volume in USD/EUR for example.

Would obviously still use bitcoin if the price is stable. I don't use bitcoin thinking that one day it will go off the roof and make me a millionaire. Instead i use it for it's features and ease of transactions.

The remaining part is Gambler's mate. And don't forget that most of the traders are Gamblers, they make money to play. If the rate gets stable then there will be very few traders remaining and it will affect the numbers of gamblers. ::)

I would still prefer BTC over fiat when transferring overseas or remitting from overseas.

Unless banking system comes up with a mechanism which transfers money instantly with reasonable fees.

Why not? It can be as good alternative for credit cards or other way of payments. We all just want profit.
But theres still good of having bitcoin even if its price is stable. Bitcoin is an internet money. This is more convinient way of payment through internet like internet shopping. We don't need to pay through your bank account. Anonimity. People love that.

I will because I don't think the price will be stable, the price fluctuation is the only thing that attracts investors here and as long as the price will increase, it's always good for all who are on board. What I see in the future is as adoption increases more businesses will be interested to operate and we will have more options to spend our bitcoins. With that, I still believe gambling sites will be the leading business that will boom with bitcoin's success.

I'm not  worried about that since i use bitcoin as currency so i really like if the price would be at 900 dollars even for the next 50 years, however it's bad for those who just want  profit by selling them when price is high. If that happen many speculators would leave bitcoin, exchanger would be bankrupt due to there is no trading activities out there, beside that people will see bitcoin as real currency they would transaction with it without worried about it's volatile nature.

What you are telling is correct to one extend but i think even fiat currency is getting traded even when the flow of currency fluctuation is low even then it is traded in exchanges, so i think even when the price fluctuation wont be high but trading will be there as bitcoin will be used as currency so when the bitcoin gets empty then the user have to go to exchanges to buy it or have to work for bitcoin and even the work who is going to give will have to get bitcoin.

That would be great, some of us are looking for stability and not necessarily the pump of Bitcoin because the fiat that we are used to is fairly stable every year and hardly fluctuate. I will rather invest in mining more bitcoins if this stabilization becomes practicable.

Lot of users fear for the unstable price. If the price gets stable lot many users will start to use bitcoin for their needs, because when stability is experienced bitcoin will be used similar to normal currencies. Personally I too prefer using bitcoin even if it holds long with a stable value.

It would kill bitcoin eventually, because miners need the that the value is higher contraposition to the block reward that diminish

a stable bitcoin right now is not that good, we need first a higher value before talking about stability, but i'm already using it anyway no matter the value it has

We all love to earn. Lets admit that. A stable price of bitcoin could lower our profits and thats what we dont want. But bitcoin have some unique features that i think could save bitcoin from extinction. Bitcoin is anonimous. Sometimes we dont want government manipulation in our assets. Bitcoin is the way to avoid them. It can also be use for remitting funds all over the world. Its the fastest(if you put the fee to priority) and lowest rate to transfer funds. See. There still benefits on using bitcoin. Even if we cannot earn from it.

Yes, I would.
I don't consider bitcoin having a stable price/value as anything remotely negative. Haven't been involved in trading much these past months so that's probably the main reason for me.

Anyway, it's a currency, if it's stable then great! It's still useful, I still get to control my own money, and it's still a great way to earn. Price speculation is not its only use.
On the other hand, volatility has got its own perks. So, it's not a cause for concern either way.  :D

If i do have a decent amount of bitcoin and know how to earn them fastly then i would still use it even it stabilize its price. The people who are most affected there is the traders and the bag holders of bitcoin which is dependent on making money on any price movement of bitcoin.

First of all bitcoin price wont remain the same. It can increase or decrease .Many hope price will increase. Next thing is who knows bitcoin will be there in future. Just imagine what will happen when all the governments ban the usage of bitcoins. Then its price will decrease. So Bitcoin's price definitely cannot remain stable. In my case, I will use bitcoins if its price is less or more or stable . I like its usage because of its anonymous nature, instant transfer and less processing fee.So it's stabiliy is not a matter for me. :)

There are less than 10 giant banks controlling the entire global economy and there is this bitcoin of ours and all people can think of is price.
Reason why Satoshi disappeared and vanished from online world was because the system( system in this post means most powerful intelligence and counter intelligence agency which is a multinational organization working for and with the giant banks that are owned and operated by less than 50 million individuals and only a few thousands of them are aware of that fact) was looking and tried to track him down to make him lock the source code then force him to shut down the project and eventually kill him, but why? because the greatest empire of all times felt threatened by this decentralized digital currency.

NO, no matter if price drops to 1 cent or stuck like tether at a fixed price, I am and will continue to support and advertise bitcoin for the rest of my life.

Yes why not? Of course you are forgetting one important detail. And that is Inflation. Inflation rate can diminish the value of your money. I can imagine that a Bitcoin worth 900$ now will become more like less than 200$. Of course Inflation is not bad because it says that the country is economically good and it is developing. I am saying Bitcoin will lose its value in the future of it becomes stable.

If bitcoin will become stable I will still use bitcoin since if that happen many merchants will use bitcoin since volatility will be out of the picture. Volatility is one of the reason why the masses are afraid to use and venture into bitcoin but if the price becomes stable then they will emerge into bitcoin. I will still use bitcoin online due to my online jobs but it will greatly affects my income since trading will no longer be available for bitcoin but for altcoins.

Of course I will! We all know that investing in bitcoin, the earning that you can get from it are not guaranteed! It's market is just like that of the stock market, it is very volatile! Meaning, the value may increase or decreasing depending on its performance and the law of supply and demand.

Of course i would still use bitcoin. It is more convenient to use than fiat. I can store my bitcoin to my own wallet and i can secure it well. The transactions are easier too. Rather than banks where fees are higher. And by using bitcoin there are many things i can do. If i want to gamble on my spare time i can gamble anywhere and anytime i want.

Actually that would be the main reason for me to convert everything i own into bitcoin.

Stability is far more important for me. Don't get me wrong i like that bitcoin is gaining value over time but if you need your money in the wrong time frame, it won't be nice. Early adopters wouldn't care for the stable prices too, since they are already rich.

If bitcoin would stable its price then its adoption would increase even more because government will surely adopt bitcoin and by that time i think bitcoin would be controlled not internally but on the businesses which is involved in it.Popularity would somehow lessen and increased in the situation where investors would leave bitcoin because they cant make money anymore out of it.

Yes I would use it irrespective of the price going up and down. Why because Firstly it's is decentralised and that's the biggest thing of all. It is not controlled by any one human, it's safe and secure and no need to carry it around. And op the price of btc is a reason why people fall in love with the btc, but sooner or later they realize it's more than the price, then they understand the technology and fall in love with it.

Stable price would definitely encourage more people to use bitcoin as the mean of payment rather than investment and subject of speculation. In that case I would definitelly use Bitcoin for international payments instead of PayPal. That's first place where Bitcoin can compete with fiat payments.

For most users, price stability in fact would not be a problem. I think the only ones who would complain about it would be traders and speculators, but they will not have big problems in the long run either, because even when Bitcoin reaches high levels of stability, there will always be price variations, in the same way as there are still variations in fiat currencies.

That is one of many other advantages of using bitcoin, people like to buy it and hope for profits to sell it.
But, bitcoiners assume bitcoin as medium of exchange which better than any other currencies or precious metals.
There are plenty of advantages that bitcoin offering for users that want an alternative payment.

When the moment will come, there will no more chance for us to earn from trading and most of it's use is merely for online transaction. But when that time will come, the price for sure will be bigger than today's price, so I suggest if you believe it will happen, we should start saving now.

I would. And I am pretty sure many others would adopt Bitcoin because their biggest fear is the instability of its price. If you want to start a business, it's hard to adopt Bitcoin. The earnings can be cut by half within a single bad move like a DDoS or a hack. We need stability for a short time so more people will join us in with their businesses too. The more it's going to be adopted, the higher the price will get!

I would use Bitcoins even the price would be stable. I now that volatility attracts many people because in that they see the opportunity to make profit. But I see Bitcoin not just as profit opportunity but also as alternative to traditional finances that gives me another choice.
And stable price would probably attract more businesses to Bitcoin so from that perspective stability could be good.

If suppose bitcoin will remain to that value for the coming 50 years then I think the traders will give less time to bitcoin but those people who want to implement bitcoin as their payment then they will readily adopt it as they will not have fear of the price volatility.

yes i am hopeful that bitcoin will remain for more than 50 years. i think bitcoin is design as to stay forever. yes that is a fact that those people who have invested their money for long term investment they are pretty confident for the price of bitcoin. they do not care the for the price of bitcoin if it fell down to some limit.

That kind of hard if it will just stay in one price. I have been staying with bitcoin because of its price fluctuation actually, it make me some money that I cant get in just walking in the streets. For it to stay in one price that would mean something is controlling it already and I really dont want that. I want freedom in its usage anywhere anytime.

Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

Yah,I will still use Bitcoin.Because Bitcoin is giving me many opportunities for making money. And it's helping me to make life more good.If Bitcoin price stuck at 900$ then it will be problem holders who earn good amount in short time. And also it will cause a great harm on trading.

No one would want to start their business by transactions
In bitcoins as the value keeps on changing .
A stable price would encourage the merchants to take payment in the form of BTC as they would not face any lose when the value goes down
It would  become more of a payment method from an investment option

It seems clear to me that a stable price of bitcoin would be the best not only I would use it but I could also keep my savings without the fear from price fluctuations. In reality, I  deal occasionally with trading so my interests in cryptocurrencies are very different from trader ones. I feel free and safe using a not inflationary global currency where there is no bank to haircut my savings or a government to impose capital controls.

When I first came here as a newbie at nights before sleep was thinking to myself that bitcoin works like this: if I have $10 bucks worth of BTC and like 0.011 then when price goes up or down my 0.011 will automatically change to 0.01 or 0.012 to adjust to my $10 balance, but then I thought wtf? why would anyone want to halt their money in a fixed state while they can work or invest or even give it to banks for at least a slow growth over time.

Since every thing in the world is in motion, bitcoin should be too as well and an amazing part about it's price fluctuation, it is not a pyramid like altcoins but a circle. so a stable bitcoin without rapid growth and slow drops wouldn't be BTC at all and answer is no.

Personally I'm in just for the chaos, lost a great deal during the Gox fiasco but it's part of the fun (made it back during halving anyways). IMO it's good that it's so unstable rn cause people like me who love to watch the market and trade the currency will keep it alive as long as it stay's crazy. But after Bitcoin gain's wider adoption it'll probably become stable and treated just like any regular currency. In that case I'd still use it, been in this community for too long to give it up.

I mean right now when you look around a sizable portion of Bitcoin spending still comes from the shadier parts of the internet. Compared to back when it stabilized at $120 it is being more widely accepted, but still. I'd say that trend will continue, by the time Bitcoin becomes the average Joe's currency it'd be one or two halvings away, then it'll probably stabilize on a value that's way higher than $2000.

I think you are so wrong, i think that most users believe in the power of this technology and thats why they hold, anyone selling at these prices either got in early and cashing in early, are whales trying to stablise the bubble or are speculators.

The price will only go through the roof if users believe in the technology and hold their bitcoin as a store of value.  viewing bitcoin as a store of value and holding will make bitcoin increase in value.

To use bitcoin as a currency we never need to bother about its price level.

Moreover I believe many merchants will be coming into adopting bitcoin payment system if bitcoin will be showing stable price levels. Only investors might be bothering about stable prices of bitcoin but definitely merchants will be loving stable prices.

the reason for checking the price every day is not because of the volatile price, it is because you only see bitcoin as an investment. otherwise (for example) USD value changed too, if you are an American will you check USD value every morning? no. but if you were a forex trader and saw USD as an investment you would have checked it every second.

and the price is becoming more stable. you can compare the rallies and drops to 3-5 years ago for example and see how smaller they have become.

That would be a positive yes for me and I will still use bitcoin for its price is stable, because that would maintain also the stability of exchange value between its price towards other currency conversion like digital currency to fiat currency. Digital currency market will be able to spike up its value to users, and could inspire more people to participate with digital currency for better purpose for investments.

The price of bitcoin can't be stable. I am not even talking about dramatic pumps and dumps (1000% up here we go!) caused mainly by Chinese traders.
Bitcoin with its limited token supply cannot hold stable value it is deflationary currency. More  adoption, constant number of coins=higher price per token.

Hypothetically in far future, when we would have every bitcoin mined and adoption progressed to the maximum level, them maybe then price will reach stable point.

100%! It doesn't mean these heavy occasional fluctuations don't mean anything to me, because they do as they allow me to benefit from them in the way that I make profit by trading against the volatility.

Alongside that I also use Bitcoin as currency where I spend my coins from time to time, and send money from one place to another. Exactly here this stable price would turn out to be extremely handy.

It feels fantastic that I can send someone like $100 in Bitcoin where a few days or a week later the value of that transaction is still nearly identical to when I sent it. Because I already experienced this a while back.

It would be tremendous to continue seeing a certain price for prolonged periods of time. But then again, volatility addicts will start complaining and probably leave Bitcoin to find their bit of joy elsewhere.

Yes, it might need some centuries to have stable priced bitcoins. With limited supply, fundamentally bitcoin is designed to have huge price levels, from current levels to attain those huge levels we might need more time. So, you traders will be getting the benefits of bitcoin's fluctuations.

However, I think if the majority of btc was kept this way then bitcoin would have dropped the price fastly, because it the truth that people don't actually believe in it as in a currency would be revealed. Well, I am not an investor yet, so probably it's just fine for me for the price to stay at $900 if that's the future of bitcoin. However it will have an effect to the community. I am sure that many of the investors will slow down and probably would pull their money out of trading.

But for sure those who have business that don't include trading like those merchants who buy and sell, it has no effect since the price is frozen, they will only profit from their business alone and not with the price anymore.

it depends on the situation, if after 50 years and the value of bitcoin is 900dollars we can consider the value of other currencies also. we must not focus on the value of just dollar if we want to know the true value of bitcoin in that year.maybe that year the dollar also goes down or the value of dollar is not that high. so we must be considerate about the factors that changes bitcoin.

I asked the question because Bitcoin was intended as a currency, but people seem to not use it on daily bases to handle everyday business and hold it instead. They do this because they expect the price to go further up. So i wonder how many will lie and tell me that they are not in for the money but they believe in the technology.

This topic would have been more interesting if there was also a poll added, to have a better overview of what most people were thinking.

I would personally still use Bitcoin, even if the price remained stable. There are certain services that I can only get by using Bitcoin and I also feel that there's an advantage for me in using Bitcoin over Paypal.

Why use Bitcoin over Paypal? For me it would be because I'm not placing any trust in a company to keep my funds safe and accessible, my account isn't at risk of being closed down and my coins should be accessible at any given time.

I added the poll. I thought about adding it right from the start, but decided against it. I can not remember why. Maybe because i expect it to not be very accurate. We will see.

I will leave bitcoin if that happens, coz for sure there will be no micro jobs anymore, and if there is, probably they would start to reduce the rewards... Everyone will be bored by that, since it is not just the earning that we are expecting when we were pay, we are also expecting that the price would always be in our favor in time...

But who knows, that could be a sign that bitcoin is already well and equally distributed to bitcoin users...  :)

if you see bitcoin as one of your source of income, surely you will leave but for others like a businessman or have a lot of transaction around the world. they will consider using bitcoin as it is more easy and fast to use, transaction using bitcoin is more convinent as it only requires you to have a bitcoin wallet and you a bitcoins just to transact to others.

probably yes. $900 is high for me. I will keep using bitcpin then.

but I am not so sure that the speculation will be right because as long as I use bitcoin, I never see the price was stable in a long period of time.
actually almost impossible to see bitcoin have stable price ,
it is decentralized and noone know if then some big holders make a decision on his coins ,
and takes a little effect at least no matter it drive to up or down ,
bitcoin will always volatile as long as in decentralization system and it always will be.

Earning money was not the only thing that attracted me to Bitcoin. There are a lot of other things about it, such as the anonymity, that are great. If the price was stable at $900, a lot more people would start to use it because they wouldn't be scared to lose money, this would also help Bitcoin become mainstream. There would also still be many ways to earn Bitcoin such as signature campaigns. You would still be making the same amount of Bitcoin, it just might be a bit less in fiat.

Of course yes, I still using even there is no movement of price for years. I would not hope that I could earn a bitcoin for only storing it.
Bitcoin right now is more of an investment  because of the ever fluctuating price, but when it stabilizes, I would not hesitate on using it more often as an alternative currency.
That's my opinion though, of course.

Not only that it is a source of income, but that's true, small time earners and those that relies on dusts, mostly will leave if the price is frozen and the rewards on micro jobs will also be decreased, but as I've said, you won't be expecting another increase in your bitcoin when you receive it, you will receive it as  it is, therefore you won't profit anymore because of time and you will only depend on the fixed payment that you will receive, that is why it's time to extract your investment out since you can buy bitcoin easily without waiting for the right timing if the price is frozen...  :)

I think most users are involved in Bitcoin not because they belief in the technology, but because they hope the price will go thru the roof. So let us say the price would be at $900 for the next 50 years.
Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

EDIT: Poll added!
Your question is a little bit on the extreme side if you said the price could be stable for a few years I could believe that scenario to be possible but 50 years is not going to happen, even if adoption did not increase the halving will be enough to drive the prices up.

I would still use bitcoin since transaction fee is very less and transaction time is also less compared to money transfer exchanges. But bitcoin will not be this much popular if its price is stable for years.Bitcoin is mostly bought as an investment which would give huge profits and if its price is stable, investors would just avoid it.

Yes, of course, probably I would even use it more than today as the prices are really stable already and it would be easier to transact using it. If it achieves the stability like the USD then that means if I want to pay someone with bitcoins I don't even need to check every minute how much are bitcoins.

Nobody expects the price to be stable and certainly not for so long, but this is an what if question with the premise of a 50 year long stable Bitcoin price. I could have taken 10 years. But my point was to make sure nobody would say, that he still sees Bitcoin as an investment because after 10 years he would expect the price to rise and he is willing to wait that long.

Of course, Why not! it means bitcoin is very stable for 50yrs.,Besides since its started as digital currency not as Bitcoin itself to become popular that's why people around the world are innocent about it. I will not leave it but will continue to use it. And moreover Bitcoin is accepted in some other advertising company as mode of payments and even in the forex trading onling. That shows Bitcoin is really good as an investment.

I doubt that you will continue using Bitcoin if the prices ever get stable around $400. You will definitely cry a lot because the prices drop from $1000 to $400 and due to this fact, you will sell all your Bitcoin as soon as possible in order to avoid losing more money in BItcoin

We can still use it, not all of us here are seeing bitcoin as a form of investment only. We have seen that price in the past and there is no problem with using it, as long as the system is still perfectly working, there is no reason for me to stop using bitcoin. If I cannot make an income by investing it, I can definitely use it in gambling and hopefully I could earn.

Definitely YES! This why I support decision of Chinese exchanges to limit volatility based on speculations by simply introducing trade fees.

BTC and crypto is not about speculation. Cause in order to make money on speculation, somebody MUST lose money. Crypto s about new way of value storage over time, like electronic gold. Do you see such high volatility with gold? Would anyone use gold if it would be so volatile? So let s repeat the story with gold without being too smart about this.

A stable bitcoin price is not possible for a lot of bitcoin is stored in cold storage. If bitcoin price remains unchanged for long period, all stored coin will come in market for sale because holders will know they can sale at current price and buy back at lower price.Such a quick influx of all stored bitcoin will decrease its price.
Demand will also remain constant and at some point decrease as people know that they can buy anytime at this price so they will not hurry up to buy.

Isn't it favorable to merchants if the price won't move too much in 50 years? and the only people that will be hurt too much are the traders? I am sure merchants will still accept bitcoin when the price stabilizes since they could just convert it back to fiat without a problem any time they want it... Besides, they could add extra amount in the price of their merchandise when they sell it for bitcoin...  :)

Value-based price (also value optimized pricing) is a pricing strategy which sets prices primarily, but not exclusively, according to the perceived or estimated value of a product or service to the customer rather than according to the cost of the product or historical prices.
What is not clear here? We work for bitcoins, we use them. Price is important to marketers because it represents marketers' assessment of the value customers see in the product or service and are willing to pay for a product or service. Stable price means stable bitcoin, like this we are walking on edge, risk a lot.
This are definitions about price and value, use them to think again about stability. Stability doesn`t mean to be at 900 and stay there forever, it`s too be there for some time and then when conditions are good to rise again.

besides i am not a BTCLovingDude just for the price :)

Of course even $500 will do . It is true that bitcoins price fluctuation plays a great role and it is the thing that attracts most people to it . But even without that I think that bitcoin can stand alone . You can still save a lot if you use bitcoin since it has low fees and whats more if  it will be accepted by most merchants? . And what I like about bitcoin besides its fluctuation is the authority to control my own money, I can be my own bank and if the price is stable it can be considered as an asset cause there  willl be no risk that your money in bitcoin might go $0 .

If u want to wait for such with bitcoin, am afraid you will wait for a long years. The volatile value of bitcoin is the reason I check the Internet every morning.

I agree. There is no reason to give up using Bitcoin since it has helped us in many ways such as providing the anonymity and security. Fee is also a remarkable factor of Bitcoin. We do not have to pay tax while using bitcoin, we only need to pay fees. And of course, fees are much lower than the tax. Therefore, Bitcoin brings lots of benefits to users and no way I will stop using Bitcoin

That's true, it won't be making people suffer similar to any other payment processors. At times problems get initiated just because of the confirmations. It has got promised growth, on account of this no need of thinking stable price. If the price continue to be stable, at least once in a year price varies.

Bitcoin sittuation is deeply paradoxical as it is now. If bitcoin price would be stable it would go down in price as a speculative money would leave bitcoin. That would be awesome for bitcoin. To have 2 years of a stable price. We would know the true price of the bitcoin. It would be organical switch between speculative and merchant money. Speculants would leave and merchants would take their place when they would have see a stability of the price.

Wouldn't it be great if bitcoin's price is stable. You will not worry about volatility. Maybe by then, we will be using bitcoin more in purchasing our daily needs. We do not have to convert to fiat to buy tissue paper or coffee. We will be spending it just the way we spend fiat now. But of course my definition of stable is when it is growing steadily without sudden large dip or pump.

If bitcoin remains 900$ for 50 years, then it is not stable, it is stagnant. It will be slowly dying by then. We know fiat inflates. If bitcoin remains the same price over the years, as the dollar inflates, bitcoin's value becomes lesser.

To be honest i'd rather become more confident after we see a long term tipping point.

The prices may continue to increase for the next couple hundred years if real world interaction with cryptocurrency becomes more popular. Disregarding short term losses we may not see this happen anytime soon.

No, I think it is exactly the opposite: if speculants are gone, the price gets stable. As soon as there are people trading BTC, we are safe. I don't think there will be people like leaving the Bitcoin zone soon, it only went up and I see no reason for it to go down and stay there.. I think we will still have some increase after a while, bringing in even more users.

I think is it bitcoin will be like gold ? where the price is higher then becomes stable. I think it would be a little disappointing because there are a lot of traders who are in bitcoin, of course they are not going to like this

yes this could be. maybe the price of bitcoin is still volatile is because it is still in trend and needs to be more advertise. it is good for it and it can also rise its value on this day. maybe it will be stable if all of the nation is considering and is official to all nations in this world like gold.

If the price of bitcoin becomes stable too it gives us earning availability in one or the other way. That is, if trading people don't get much benefitted they can invest in gambling websites because more people will use bitcoin for gambling due to the easy access even if price becomes stable.

although the price of bitcoin is expecting to increase more and more at least for next few year, but i think that if bitcoin become stable still people will in still using bitcoin. Because currently people are using bitcoin for investment and when bitcoin will become more stable then people start using it as currency and for transaction method. therefore the use of bitcoin is not going to stop.

I would use it, no matter the stable price. Bitcoin volatility is very important to traders and all people who want to earn on Bitcoin price but I think that average Bitcoin users also uses it because of other advantages like independency from banks, because transactions are easy or maybe because they have some source of income in Bitcoins.
Longer period of stable price will not hurt bi, that is what I think.

I concur, for many bitcoiners (traders to be specific) fluctuation in price is how money is made and if bitcoin prices were to stabilize...maybe trading with other altcoins would  be a profitable choice in the long run afaik, but since bitcoin price can be easily manipulated by pumps and dumps thanks to its decentralized nature will stick to it for better or worse.

My decision is final and I will keep on using bitcoin no matter what happens. Because I know that bitcoin will give us enough wealth.

Like those early holders did, they are now rich with bitcoin and they didn't stop on using bitcoin.

And if we are going to stop using bitcoin regardless of its price, we will gain nothing in it.

Currently a number of people are accepting bitcoin because they are seeing that the price of bitcoin will increase more higher in price but you are also right that if the stability occurred in price then those people who want to store only their money in bitcoin then they will start to put their money in bitcoin as they will want to hide their money for the sake of security from robbers and thieves.

Not only from robbers and thieves people will start to hide the money from the government. Yes, we have a number of big shots in all countries, Now they all saving their black money in Swiss banks and other private places. Once the BTC price is stable for years, they will start to put their black money in the form of bitcoins. Correct?  We can use Bitcoin for any purpose legal or illegal but if the price stable many people will use this BTC for an illegal purpose.

I think most users are involved in Bitcoin not because they belief in the technology, but because they hope the price will go thru the roof. So let us say the price would be at $900 for the next 50 years.
Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

EDIT: Poll added!

Indeed yes! When we say Bitcoin, it means currency. I don't consider it as an investment or security. Bitcoin is meant to be used as currency, and if the price of Bitcoin becomes stable, we still got-
1. Currency which is purely decentralized.
2. Currency accepted in all countries.
3. Currency providing me anonymity.
4. Currency helping me to enter into deal with people from other countries at minimum time and cost.
What else we want!

To be honest, if bitcoin's price would stand still for years, it would lose what makes it different from others and then where's the fun part? Its instability and unpredictability have attracted me and driven me into this bitcoin world, so I wouldn't expect to use it if things changed.

people would prefer use bitcoin as serious currency rather than just an investment like a stocks. nowadays indeed people can't accept a currency with a high volatility price like bitcoin , but in the future i believe people could accept that situation slowly as time goes by. so there wouldn't be a serious problem when the scenario like this happened.

These aren't mutually exclusive. The price will go up because the technology is innovative.
More users will increase the price, and an increased price will eventually lead to a more stable price. But only after the price has risen.

It would be easier to use Bitcoin once the price become stable since the era of speculation ended and the more stable value of Bitcoin started.  Merchant will then take the place of this speculative trader giving more usage to Bitcoin.  So probably in that time there is a store near me that I can use my BTC to buy stuffs.  Instead of leaving I may regularly use Bitcoin and use it as alternative to my local currency to buy stuffs.

Possibly, it depends on what the value is. If it stays around where it is now, ($1000 USD), then yes. Although I do love the ability to watch the value in your wallet grow, I believe bitcoin is at a very decent value right

now, and would be happy sticking with it. In addition, I think it would help bitcoin become more mainstream because it will lose its reputation of being to volatile. People won't be scared of holding their money in

bitcoin because they know the price will stay consistent. This will help people recognize the benefits of bitcoin.

If stable prices is certainly not going to save a lot of bitcoin, because it can be affected by inflation and I'll choose save money in the bank than bitcoin.

The people who was the majority interest of bitcoin when it becomes stable is not the trader, merchants will surely use bitcoin as this can be the biggest and the greatest payment system. However, due to the limited supply, I guess this will never be stable, and the interest of the traders and all the users of bitcoin will be serve.

Yes, I have the same thought as from my perspective, bitcoin's instability and uncontrollability in price are what draw people's attention and more important, what make bitcoin really bitcoin. Fluctuation in bitcoin's price is like its signature, so if it was made stable for a long time then the number of its users would drop and I think I would be one of the ones who gave up on it.

I think so, many people only care about the price of Bitcoin, waiting for price increases to benefit, they not interested in technology of Bitcoin.. This is unfortunate for those who do not care about it. In years to come, including the price of Bitcoin is not stable, I will still using and trading it as now. My favorite thing in Bitcoin is technology and its features, price is only part. Modern technology of the new Bitcoin is a constitutive element of its true value. 900$ for the next 50 years, it's not too bad, I thought it was a good price and suitable. If the Bitcoin price stability over years I think there are still a lot of people use it,  but I think that prices of Bitcoin will not stabilize, maybe it'll be a bit of fluctuation.

If price get stable it directly effects the economy of the country that will also be the same case of bitcoin community.

The speculators would start leaving and businesses, that want to implement bitcoin payments would take their place. It would be even better for bitcoin in the long run.

Interestingly, to use bitcoin we just need stable prices and only for the investors and traders fluctuating prices will matter.

I believe more merchants will come forward when they are seeing stable prices for bitcoin for years. Still many merchants are accepting bitcoin with third party support to encash their bitcoin immediately after the deal. By seeing these, there would be no chances for bitcoin to get stable price for next hundred years.

Yes if it is in stable position many people will not use bitcoin because both are in equal stage fiat = bitcoin. Than what is the use of buying bitcoin and after converting them into fiat is useless just additional charges. Many people are attracting to bitcoin because of it's price variations, so in this way they will make profits through bitcoin.

You guys are thinking Traders point of view. You are right it is no use to bitcoin if the price is stable. But if the price stable at $1k+ then this is use for small business people and miners they will make a huge profit from this stable price. And those who do work for Bitcoin they will make a profit. Investors also get good profit. Usually, I will buy Bitcoin from fiat currency I earn coins from my work, so I will use BTC if the price is stable.

Traders will surely not like the scenario if price of bitcoins gets stable as it will take away from them the opportunity to make regular profits but those who are earning bitcoins and want to invest their money for a long term will surely like the stable price as it will give them confidence that bitcoin will not disappear so easily or they will not loose their money by investing in bitcoins.

Just to make it clear, if we came to the point where price would be steady at $900 as OP stated, there will be no pump and dump that will happen, since when they pump the price, the aftermath would be dumping, that would not make the price stable... So probably with that said, traders would not be that willing to take advantage of the price anymore, so they might think of new coin to trade...

But I am sure, if the price is stable, more and more merchants would be accepting bitcoin, specially if they know that there are already people who are using it...  :)

No, it doesn't make any difference with fiat money. No interesting things if the price is stable, I wouldn't be trading bitcoin and buy bitcoin again. If stable prices is certainly not going to save a lot of bitcoin, because it can be affected by inflation and I'll choose save money in the bank than bitcoin.

It is obvious that day traders will not like if Bitcoin gets stable.  It is because they profit in fluctuation and stable means less ups and downs of prices or if there is it is at minimal.  On the otherhand, merchants will rejoice since they will be able to use Bitcoin without the fear of getting huge lost due to fluctuation.  Now with lots of merchant and stores to use bitcoin, I am sure I will use it and enjoy the ease of transfer it brings.

People who buy bitcoin don't look very much at the bitcoin price because they are going to spend them so if the price increases a bit then it brings a little profit to them.

So the same would be if the bitcoin price would be stable for years because some making bitcoin transaction sometimes is much easier than dealing with fiat online.

Thank you...

traders will surely dislike a very stable price but there is still lots of opportunities to make profit even in a market with a stable price. you can check so many other markets, and they are still being traded.

and besides don't forget that no price can stay stable for long. surely it won't be $50 change forever but it wouldn't be $0 change either. it will be a smaller change for example going up and down in $5 range.

Yes I will still use bitcoin even the price is stable. Because I buy bitcoin for trading so if I earn bitcoin I can convert it into the money same price. Yes I hold bitcoin but its not mean I cannot use bitcoin . If the price is high , stable , low I will use it. Because I can earn money from it. Why do I stop using bitcoin? No one reason . many people I think will interest if the bitcoin price is stable because its attract them to invest so the price will pump not dump.
Would you still use bitcoin if the price for it fall to the most early prices, which were like couple of cents? I doubt.

That's not true that people who buy bitcoin don't look on it's price. i think exactly such factors as decentralization and high price play the main role for bitcoin's popularization. I would leave bitcoin in the case of low price and if the price would be high as today I would stay in this even if bitcoin would get stable.

I am agree with you of using bitcoin even if the price stable for years, because transactions it's too easy. So you can enjoying do transfers of bitcoin without any problems. Also if you do that, you can only pay a very low fees and sometimes without fees. bitcoin is easy to controle.

Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

You are right at some extent but here most of the bitcoiner doesn't dependent upon the price fluctuations .
As the trading became a tedious job to make profit , so fluctuations in the bitcoin price became a profitable thing for those some bitcoin traders .
But opposite of the price of bitcoin fluctuations , I want price of the bitcoin remain constant because some bitcoin trader don't want disturb in price because they have huge difference between the buying and selling price .
Secondly in the signature  campaign the price changes if the price of bitcoin increase but when the price get lowered then they never increase the bitcoin amount for the per post , that is a thing which is annoying .

All the more that I am going to use it because as the price stabilizes, the more people will be enticed to use it regularly which will also lead to more merchants starting to accept it, and as long as the transaction fees aren’t prohibitively high and justifiable even for small transaction, my answer would be a big yes.

Bitcoin is a deflationary currency, there is no way for its price to remain stable in the long run. I am not talking about volatility here.
Volatility is caused by relatively small market cap we have today, and every major sell/buy order is impacting bitcoin's price.
We might see final and stable bitcoin price in distant future, when all bitcoins will be finally mined. Until then, Bitcoin prices will be on a upward trend.

You have made a good point here.Price is the only reason people hold bitcoin as investment. This has a great hurdle in becoming bitcoin widely acceptable as many people prefer to spend fiat than bitcoin for they do not want to spend bitcoin.

the word "use" here is a bit tricky!
we are not "using" bitcoin much now! we are investing in bitcoin, and it is because bitcoin price is so volatile that we are not "using" it.

bitcoin is a currency or as the paper puts it a digital cash, so in case price was stable that would be the day we start "using" bitcoin for good.

I don't think a currency's main point is trading but its ability to become stable. A stable Bitcoin means more demand or in other words more businesses will accept Bitcoin. Because they know that they won't lose income because of volatility. With this I think the government will reconsider there views on Bitcoin.

If there was more international acceptance then I'd continue using it while abroad, but only if I could obtain it without a premium which is impossible in the UK.

As for day to day spending, nope. The fees aren't going to get any cheaper and it's already too much for more modest transactions. I can use a debit card that costs nothing. I ain't a charity. If Bitcoin can't fulfil a need in my life then I'd get rid.

A rising price inspires spending. Complete stagnation would not.

I guess there will be no relation for government's stand on bitcoin and a stable prices of bitcoin. But when bitcoin will have a stable prices for years, many merchants will come forward to accept bitcoin payments which may lead to main stream adoption then government may make a stand on bitcoin. Firstly, I don't think bitcoin or any cryptocurrency will be stable for years in any period of time. Because bitcoin is not only a mean to trading but also the coin for people to trade, I mean the bitcoin price will be fixed by people who have large amount of it, they will change the price of bitcoin to fit with their needed. So the price will not be stable too long. And yes, if any special event made that impossible thing happen, I will still use bitcoin because its always preeminent to me.

I don't think that would be the main intention, if people will not create big demand then the price would have not gone this big. I guess he started a great system but we, the people patronize this as we see this is new and opposite with the current fiat system. We can use it online easily bypassing many restrictions, so we users find freedom with bitcoin.

Most users does the same and will continue to use even when the price is found stable. Also it'll easily attract the people who are not interested to be a part of uncertainty about the growth of the digital currencies. Periodically we get good stable prices which right now is above $1000.

I think stable price of bitcoin will attract more user because main reason why most business doesn't accept bitcoin is instability in price. If price would stable then more business will accept bitcoin as payment method and a user will feel safe using bitcoin without worrying about losing money because of price drop.

Satoshi intentionally developed bitcoin in a way that the value only be moving upwards, as you can see it started from $0.01 cent and is rising day after day and price will only rises year after year, stop worrying about the temporary fluctuations as they are natural occurrences of day tradings.
I don't think so, the value of bitcoin was coming personally. With all of the advantages has offered by bitcoin and it makes the community (bitcoiners) were realizing if the bitcoin is really potential. Satoshi don't ever think the price of bitcoin will touch $1000 in my mind.

I personally will still wearing bitcoin, during Bitcoin prices are still higher than the dollar and gold.

Bitcoin is very pleasant, because very quickly rise & fall(liquidity), unlike FIAT movement in general. Bitcoin has always proved itself to rise and stable over other currencies.

I used Bitcoin even after the price fell from $700 to $220. If it was stable why would it stop me from using Bitcoin? I'm not a trader - I don't care much about the price. If it would be stable, I think there will actually be more people joining in because that's a fear for many people: instability.

Yes of course I would continue to use bitcoins because if the value is stable it means that you will have a lower risk to lose the value of your bitcoins and so to lose everything. Furthermore, it will be a good new because it means that bitcoin will be safer!

That's what comes into my mind too. People will be using bitcoin more and more as a currency when it is already stable. Even a newbie could already use bitcoin as they will not be afraid of the ups and downs of the price. Merchants too, they will be open to use bitcoin if it is not moving that much as they are busy and no time to watch out for the price to trade their bitcoin when the price swings. But definitely not for investors who are into trading. It will not be good for them except if they are into altcoin trading.

Would I be willing to sell items for it? Sure. Would I buy and stack it? No, I would use it to buy stocks that have a dividend, I think a lot of us here are interested in increasing our wealth, for first world nations our fiat works well. I don't need another currency, I want something better, and staying at 900 USD for 50 years means it loses buying power just like the dollar.

Absolutely true. We may not wanna stack Bitcoins like now everyone is trying to do, But we will be definitely using it if there is no better option comes in all those years. We Don't love Bitcoin for just it's volatility, we love it for the usability and easiness in the transactions.

I agree with most of these points but I also think that Bitcoin is a great currency and provides an easy of use for purchasing goods and services securely. I'd still use it for purchasing and selling items, but if its entirely stable there would be no sense on holding onto it for long periods of time as an investment.

yes, it's possible. bitcoin has flexible functions. although the price is not rising, but there are still many advantages contained in bitcoin. example is the transaction. the orangutans as possible can take advantage of the singer to review transactions online. Yeah, I guess so, although I love watching my balance go sky high after each time bitcoin fluctuates, being stable and less volatile will make bitcoin closer to the state of being a widely used currency. But I'm still getting some huge profit from bitcoin's fluctuation so its stability doesn't get my interest.

I would, stabling bitcoin in $900 is not that bad, it is better than to have nothing at all, it is still better to do signature campaign than surfing the net, posting on facebook with different pictures and videos, and got nothing in the end of the day, just wasted your time doing this stuff.

So, I am 100% sure that many people will still use bitcoin even though its price will not goes up anymore like they are expecting to happen this year, but, on the positive side, let's just hope that bitcoin would PUMP and its price won't be immobilized forever.

That's the trader's mind. Honestly, we have still the other way to trade behind using bitcoin for the general trade. I will still use it because there are a lot of the sources to trade. I will never leave it.
A lot of the bitcoin's advantage have helped me a lot.

Also because since we are holding our bitcoin for a very long time and waiting until its price goes up to something that it never hit before, that is why we are hoping that bitcoins price would fluctuate always in a good price, why? because of only one thing, to have PROFIT from it, not just profit, a huge PROFIT, for our patience to earn.

But still, even though its price would just be stable for years in $900, I would still use it, $900 per bitcoin is not that bad compare to its price before, it is better to have something than to have nothing at all.

I think there is more to bitcoin than just the possibility of a dramatic price increase.
Anonymity is a big factor for many people. Or the possibility to send money without having a bank account.
So for me there would still be reason to use bitcoin even if it is stable.
Besides, a stable currency is better than one that loses in value.

We are all different and we also have many reasons to use bitcoin.
Some people buying bitcoin with hope to see price increase, in order to earn some quick profit.
Some people need bitcoin for trade, gambling or investments.
Others will use bitcoin in order to buy digital staff online, for example.
For some of us, the most important thing regarding bitcoin is anonymity and safety.
For others is possibility to earn some good money.
So, personally, I will still use bitcoin even if price would be stable for years
I don't like very strict rules from my local tax office and government regarding online income, so because of this I like bitcoin a lot :)

I have voted YES. Why not? I don't trade in the sense of making profit from Bitcoin's volatility. I just like the fact that BTC is always rising in price and that's why it's a safe investment. Also if Bitcoin was more stable the adoption of it would rise causing the inevitable rise in price which would be good IMO.

I must admit that I do like the volatility as it allows me to gain profits, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the stable periods. Stability gives people more incentive to actually start using Bitcoin as currency tool instead of only as an investment. It would give the average joe also far more confidence to finally hop over to Bitcoin as by that time the volatility won't be a concern anymore. Growth must come from these people after all.

I agree with you.  Other people does not know how to take advantage of Bitcoin fluctuation but they are good at taking advantage of usage of Bitcoin.  So basically those who are good at taking advantage of this usage are all for stability of Bitcoin price.  I will be using Bitcoin because I will miss the purpose why Bitcoin is created if I do not use it to purchase stuff in the internet.

At this moment, I'm using Bitcoin more when it's (relatively) stable because then it fits better most of my use cases. If volatility is high, there is more risk involved - even if the prices seems to go up steadily, because a trend reversal then often is not far away.

So obviously I'm voting for yes. And more: If Bitcoin wants to succeed it must be more stable. Otherwise it wouldn't work as a unit of account (basic money function).

I would use Bitcoin BTC if the price was the same for many years. The price doesn't really matter as long as it isn't at 0, it doesn't even matter what currency conversion as well.

Bitcoin is just a means of payment that could be used online and with a low transaction fee -a receiver could obtain the Bitcoin on any computer or even on their smartphone on the go. With the new technology releasing to the public for payment processing, these features of Bitcoin is looked as a BETA before the real thing is launched soon. Transaction speed is the major issue so there is many developers working on that.

It does still have variations even fiat currency does still have movement because speaking about stability it means it has fixed value and not tend to move in the long run. Forex is an example that currencies do really move its price how much more on bitcoin.

Yes its initial purpose retains as a store of value. People at the early days used bitcoin for gambling needs where gambling is banned for some reason. Now this has changed a lot as a high volume store of value. Possibly by the years to come the volatility might decrease but won't stick to a stable price for a long. If such a situation arises too, bitcoin will be used in some form.

That's not true that people who buy bitcoin don't look on it's price. i think exactly such factors as decentralization and high price play the main role for bitcoin's popularization. I would leave bitcoin in the case of low price and if the price would be high as today I would stay in this even if bitcoin would get stable.

Mostly all people matter about the bitcoin price because they don't want to buy at a higher price and then see how they are losing their money.

The current price is not bad and bitcoin can continue so and be alive and be used by a large number of people worldwide.

Traders probably will move to ETH or to some other altcoins for profit but bitcoin will continue its journey.

I think so. Even if I was a trader, I would not see big problems in this, because when Bitcoin reaches great stability, the price still have variations, just as with fiat currencies.

i think value may is important to traders as they are earning from the flux of values of bitcoin. so we cant say that there would be no problem for traders when the value of bitcoin stays stable. maybe for alternative coins that may help the traders to earn from it.

Why not? After all, Satoshi invented Bitcoin to be used as a currency, rather than as an investment asset. If the value remains stable, then there are a lot of advantages as well. More and more traders will start accepting Bitcoin as a mode of payment. Also, people in the third world countries such as Venezuela and Zimbabwe will start purchasing Bitcoins to protect their wealth.

I think most users are involved in Bitcoin not because they belief in the technology, but because they hope the price will go thru the roof. So let us say the price would be at $900 for the next 50 years.
Would you still use and buy Bitcoin or would you leave?

EDIT: Poll added!
Yes I will keep using bitcoin in fact having a stable price will be great since I will not have to worry to leave my coins in my wallet for a long time and that the price tanks or something so it will be one less thing to worry about, and that will probably incentive business to accept bitcoin and keep the bitcoin instead of selling it right away.

yes using bitcoin with stable price will be good if you want to store it in the bitcoin wallet. for now having bitcoin with this volatile movement will just let you earn or you will have some troubles from it as it can go down the value. having stable price of bitcoin is good because it can be used by many because of the feauture that having that stable price.

I will still use it if the price would be stable, in fact i will start using it as a transaction payment instead of holding or using it for trading right now. I won't hestitate to spend it on things as the stable price will make bitcoin more a digital currency rather than other form of investment as we've seen right now.

Achieving a stable price for long period should not have a negative effect in the bitcoin economy, on the contrary it would be very beneficial to impulse a better adoption for more economic agents. But a stable price does not mean a total lack of move in the bitcoin behavior, a stable price also involves less volatile pumps and dumps, not beyond 2-3% in a daily basis, as fiat currencies.
