Title: Anywhere good to sell things for Bitcoin yet?
Post by: roparker2014 on January 21, 2017, 11:19:39 PM
Is there anything like a working Ebay / Amazon for Bitcoin yet? Obviously not expecting anything that sophisticated, but at least a working p2p trading market, where there are a decent enough number of buyers/sellers to make things worthwhile?
I remember reading about OpenBazaar and maybe others, in the past, have any of these projects matured to the point that they are viable for conducting economic activity? What's the biggest stuff-for-Bitcoins market at the moment?
Done a few Google searches and not been overwhelmed with success at finding these opportunities. I haven't looked too deeply but a lot of what I found - http://spendbitcoins.com/ - for example, seems to mostly throw up links to non-Bitcoin retailers (maybe they have taken the payment option off their sites, but spendbitcoins hasn't updated). Or just downright bad information like this page http://www.bitcoineverything.net/how-to-buy-your-programs-and-tools-with-bitcoins/  which tells me that Amazon is happy to take my coins.

I've not seen any marketplaces online that accept Bitcoin and google searches seem to be useless.
For things like gift vouchers, I found this (https://www.zeek.me/) which should be fairly trusted (I think) and they claim to accept bitcoin.
Unless you look specifically for somewhere (as the main sites like Amazon and Ebay don't accept them) then they'll probably be difficult to find.

The answer is pretty much NO to this question.  There isn't anywhere near as good as Ebay to sell stuff.  Or Amazon.  And my take on it is that there's never going to be.  Why?  Because people do not like to spend bitcoin.  Why would you, especially in a bull market like this?  It makes absolutely no sense.  So sell whatever it is you need to sell on Ebay, and use the cash proceeds to buy bitcoin.  I don't see a better plan than that.

Selling physical items for bitcoins still seems to be a huge struggle. I've literally never sold anything. I try when I list things online to mention I accept bitcoins but I've never gotten a sale. Cryptocurrency enthusiasts are a bunch of hoarding penny-pinchers (myself included).

These days it is very hard to get products for bitcoin as we get from amazon or eBay. In my view a combined effort by a group of bitcoin enthusiasts make it a possible one. But one cannot get back the invested amount or profit in a short but as the bitcoin usage is getting increased regularly can have a assurance of getting back the profit.

If you are a buyer you could use your BTC to buy stuff on Amazon using purse.io. I havent used it personally but I heard that you could buy almost anything at 15% to 20% discount. If you are a seller, there are no sites that accomodate people who like to sell for BTC. Try Craig's List.

So what about OpenBazaar? Has that not become useful yet? I read some articles saying there are something like 700 businesses on it now. I haven't tried that hard to look for them, but in my limited searches I haven't been able to find any.

Wouldn't this be a great opportunity for some e-entrepreneur? Doesn't even have to be as ambitious as OpenBazaar, I will be happy if someone is able to put together a centralized, non-criminal Bitcoin marketplace, before they worry about a fully decentralized P2P one. Given how it's pretty simple these days to put together just about any sort of e-commerce platform you want, using open source tech and a few good programmers, surely it's time someone tried at least?
If it really is true that even at this stage, there just aren't enough people engaging in actual commerce with BTC to make such a project worthwhile, then that seems like a pretty major hurdle in the road towards BTC gaining adoption. If this is the case - then wouldn't a concerted push from the BTC community to get people spending coins be a good strategy? People who are interested in the potential of BTC to be a real competitor to centralized national currencies should be thinking about this as a priority, in my opinion. One idea would be to try and encourage those who do sell products or services for BTC to offer real value. In my limited experience of seeing these things on offer, when vendors do offer a BTC payment option it tends to be at a premium over credit card or Paypal or whatever. Doesn't help that all of the exchanges and major BTC vendors charge a pretty hefty premium just to sell people BTC with fiat currency, anyway! So, from the consumer's point of view, when they start looking into this "revolutionary new money" they find that they are getting charged for the privilege at every step. After being convinced to look into it because they hear about "low fees" and the like, this probably comes as a bit of a disappointment.

So yeah, bit of a long post - but how about some sort of initiative aimed at getting users to spend their coins rather than just hoarding them? And some sort of community pressure to get those who provide BTC services, or just sell BTC itself, to offer more value to potential customers?

Maybe purse.io is good. I heard a lot of news and reviews about it, but there are still some bad reviews about it. However that problem with it is that purse.io is not really an amazon affliliated or connected service. It is just some other company buying from amazon and just shipping to the buyers. I hope we can get some more services that would cater to bitcoins.

If you like the products sold at Amazon and you want to spend only in BTC then purse.io is the best site for ehat you want to do. There is no other site doing this but them. Amazon will never accept BTC in my opinion.

Theres no sure if amazon wont accept bitcoin but if they saw the demand of that payment option maybe they will adopt it but we wont know on when.Yes purse.io is only the way as far as i know to use when you tend to buy online by using bitcoin but hearing on the feedbacks on their service turns out that most of them are unsatisfied.

Most of purse.io's customers are unsatisfied? Most? Are you sure or are you making this up? I want you to post your proof where you got this from. Did you personally do a survey? I have not heard of this before and as far as Im concerned they are one of the best services in the Bitcoin market. Before you post something please be careful and please make sure they are true.

Right, he must have not declared something as a fact yet without truly knowing the truth of it. But maybe he is just referring to some few that had a bad experience with them. I read somewhere that one customer was scammed for his bitcoins in purse.io. I am not sure though how it was resolved as I forgot the link to it already, I read it here on the forums somewhere. But regardless, I think purse.io can be trusted as there are only a very few that complain about it.

I've seen that site, seems like a nice concept. Though, they don't have so much users yet. I like how their escrow works and its really cheap to use escrow. I browsed it and seen a lot of illegal or grey area items there too so that could discourage people from using it. I wish there is something like that which is much better in terms of UI and goods for sale.

Hes probably making things up. I checked his last 30 - 50 posts and I have noticed that he jump from topic to topic posting whatever comes first in his mind. The moderators should be a little more strict in maintaining the post quality of the forum.

Ebay and Amazon is still not accepting BTC as a payment but there are some sites who allows you to do that like purse.io, I

haven't tried their services but I'm always hearing good stuffs about them here in this forum or you can just buy a gift certificate

here in the forum. I also heard that some shops like newegg nad overstock are already accepting bitcoin. There is no p2p platform

for bitcoin goods sellers these days if you're planning to sell you either build a site or stick here with bitcointalk.

There used to be a good site for selling items called but bitmit.com but they closed up shop a while ago.
There have been others that have tried and some of the best currently include https://bitify.com although they don't seem to be as successful as Bitmit once was.
You could also try creating a store on Open Bazaar. They recently released their platform and its already quite big.

Really? How big is Open Bazaar these days? How many sellers do they have and how wide are the choices of their products? Show and tell us what you bought there and which seller would you recommend for us to buy from?

If there are some online stores that will open, I guess it is good but hard to get the attention and trust by the buyer and even the seller. Currently bitcoin is in starting phase and needs time to be able to accepted all over the world shops.

First of all it feels like you dont understand BTC fully and what markets it has an advantage over. I hear all of you talking about giving it time or be patient because BTC will be accepted in online shops in the future, but thats not the real purpose of BTC. Its main purpose is to give advantage to markets that are underserved or not at all served by the banks. Just look at the darknet. Theres plenty of uses for BTC there.

Please also make more effort in your posts. You are wasting Blackmamba's time.

you can try checking specific vendors who do accept bitcoins
you can use it with expedia for buying hotel services and more
