Title: Large movement on the forum... is it accidental ?
Post by: ShadowOfHarbringer on November 15, 2010, 11:35:36 AM
I have noticed that there was large traffic increase on the forums lately.

I was wondering - is it just caused by naturally increasing popularity of Bitcoin, or did we get some large press/blog/reddit/digg coverage again ?

BTW,
Can somebody confirm or deny that the forum has increased traffic in last 3 days ?

You can see the number of posts per month here http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

The big jump was on July, since then it's been steady it seems.

...when this Slashdot article (http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/07/11/1747245/Bitcoin-Releases-Version-03) was published.

looks like visits to the forum (Most Online) reached peak in the early part of February (130~170), now it has fallen back to 80~110 visitors.

I guess this can partially explain the recent drop of BTC value.

Slashdot effect (article about the $1 parity).

Drop is IMHO a correction to the artificial run to get the parity.

That's wrong. We just entered February 21 about 6ish hours ago. So that's why it's in the low 100ish today.

Also, we never been consistently above 100 visitors until early February.

If anyone feels like preparing the graphs, it would be interesting to see bitcoin price plotted against the forum stats (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats): new topics, new posts, new members and most online.
