Title: I have stopped introducing bitcoin to others!
Post by: Pursuer on February 23, 2017, 06:35:01 AM
after 3 years of introducing bitcoin to other people and getting at least 100 of them into bitcoin I have stopped.

because all these years I have never told anyone bitcoin is an investment, whenever there is talk of bitcoin I first say bitcoin is a currency and show them the benefits of it as a currency, being decentralized as the best thing and then the security and speed and finally the cheap fees and lots more.
then I introduce them to services they can use with bitcoin, and all the discounts they can get.

but honestly I can no longer give any answer to the question saying "why would I pay $0.9-$1 fee for using a new thing called bitcoin that I don't even understand instead of using my credit card for free that I have been using my whole life."

of course I can always start arguing about lots of other things and benefits and start talking about bitcoin being an investment but deep down I agree with them and also I hate telling new people "bitcoin is an investment and you are gonna make profit from price rise", that is just silly.

edit: to those who say credit cards do have fee: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1801459.msg17959102#msg17959102

Edit2: I closed this topic since it has turned into a non-constructive spam-fest of people repeating rather similar things and ignoring most of what I said. sorry everyone else.

I understand your reasons and why you have made such decision. This could be very hard and sometimes you can get the feeling that you are talking to the wall. But still this is one of the ways how Bitcoin is spread and its the best method to promote Bitcoin because people like to hear from the first hand, so from you as experienced user what are the advantages of using Bitcoin and why should they also do it.

I discovered bitcoin too late and the main reason was that i didn`t found someone like you before 3 years or even back in 2011.
I have missed so much opportunities with bitcoin and i regret about that.
You should continue promoting bitcoin to newbies. If you convince even 1 person about bitcoin, this is huge.

Cant argue with that also. It needs deeper knowledge for them to truly understand which they wont because they want to stay on they convenient zone.
One thing you just have to keep on your mind, that is their opinion and we have ours. We try to share it with them. If they resist then it is fine also. We dont lose anything but they lose the way to see a new beginning or could make their life new.
Those people just want to stay at that comfort zone which is the wrong thinking specially now with all the hard things with the economy.

I don't find any difficulty in explaining to people because today people are always looking for new opportunity. Even we are spending low amount for transaction with bitcoin, we are paying very high amounts when we made purchase in wall marts, movies etc. taxes are very high. With bitcoin transaction charges are very low, in this we can easily motivate the people.

That's complete bullshit, sorry.  You're not more intelligent because you use an internet currency that pretty much no one accepts, and that costs money to obtain and use.  Get over yourself.  OP is completely right--or rather, the ones arguing against btc as a currency are right.  It's a shitty currency.  End of story.

I hate telling new people "bitcoin is an investment and you are gonna make profit from price rise", that is just silly.
Why this is silly point ???
It is true that if you just keep holding bitcoin without having close eye on market activity than you will actually loss rather than making any profit out of it. So thinking bitcoin as passive way of earning profit is the wrong sentiment.

I feel the same. I also do not tell people any more. Bitcoin is still a good store of value and it has other cool feature, like being in charge of my money, pseudonymity and decentralized ledger, but it is no longer cheap and fast to transfer. It never was a currency, since there are no merchants where i can spend it, besides a few. If Bitcoin changes, then maybe i start talking again about it, but right now i can not sell something i do not believe 100% in.

I disagree with you, the transaction fees are getting higher and it is making Bitcoin unpopular especially to the yet to be told and the newbies. I think he made a brilliant point that it's silly to pay so much for a new technology while my conventional credit card charges nothing to perform a similar transaction.

let me give you an example. last week I did a business with someone and transferred about (what would be in USD) $2000 in local currency through my bank. I paid 0 fees no tax, it went through safe and fast with no tax.

in general, no. I disagree. there are still lots of other benefits for using bitcoin as a currency. such as anonymity and still cheap money transfer oversees. but as long as the fee war is going on and blocks are full yeah. I still am not going to call it "shitty" though.

why would I pay $0.9-$1 fee for using a new thing called bitcoin that I don't even understand instead of using my credit card for free that I have been using my whole life.

That proves people who haven't interest and don't want to learn new thing, not fit to use bitcoin. Why? Because vulnerable to: scammed, infected with malware, lost their coins.

I have same experience, unfortunately they not say such thing, they just not really notice me and I think "at least I spread about bitcoin to around me". I don't care they will use or not, they will know themselves.

Yeah sure. I hope that you will happy about paying tax to the government lol. I do not know why you like to blame about the fee. Most of the people are getting crazy about the fee while they do not know that thanks to the fee, they will never have to pay tax or something like that. And moreover, you can have a good security and become an anonymous person. LOL keep using FIAT dude and you will become rich with it :D

dude, using bitcoin does not magically exclude you from paying taxes. you are still living inside a country and have to follow the rules of that county, which means you have to report your to the taxman otherwise he is gonna get you :)
and if you pay lots of taxes just for using fiat services such as banks it doesn't mean the rest of the word do to!

if you don't believe it and also think you are anonymous then check out who BurtW is and what happened to him. a little help: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=934268.0

They have a good reason, so it's a bit hard to argue with them. Bitcoin is drifting away from it function's as a currency day by day. People see it more as an investment this day rather than a digital currency. It took longer for transaction and it has fee which keep increasing. It's hard to persuade people using bitcoin as a currency that i don't bother to do it anymore.

Legit point, but you can answer that bitcoin is much better and faster in remittance service than credit card or debit card. And it is the advantage of bitcoin.

The $2000 transfer across international borders is still a valid use case for bitcoin as a currency, but the number of valid use cases for bitcoin keeps decreasing! The profit from speculation is all based on adoption of bitcoin increasing while the utility of bitcoin increases. The network effect is key to the valuation of bitcoin. The utility of bitcoin is currently decreasing (look at the record-sized mempool today!), and adoption may well start to decrease soon. This would be truly sad to see.

I would agree if you say we shouldn't introduce bitcoin to others since bitcoin have problems such as slow transaction confirmation, small blocksize or only debate with troll and never do something really useful ::)
However, i should let you know that credit cards have some additional/hidden fees when we make transaction, receive administration letters and other minor fees that most users never realize and we should try introducing bitcoin to others again when bitcoin problems have been resolved.

I have to admit that what got me into bitcoin is the potential for it to be a great investment, and iso far it has not disappointed me. I think we just have to live with bitcoin attracting more users from the investment side rather than as a currency. Just like what most of you are saying, it is hard to defend something that doesn’t get things done the way it should.

The main beauty of bitcoin is less transaction fee. Those who understand about bitcoin will definitely introduce many people to bitcoin investment, because bitcoin is long term investment where you can make huge amount of money in longer run. I myself motivated many people to bitcoin and explained many benefits about bitcoin, now they are really happy with bitcoin earnings.

Since when credit cards are free? In most banks you have to either have a very significant assets stored to get it for free or you have to pay for it one way or another.
Some banks ask you to pay for the card and then there are no fees and some require you to do a certain number of transactions every month for it to be free, otherwise you get charged a fee.
Also if you go below your CC limit you pay a fee.
Other things to consider are transaction times, banks usually need 24h and bitcoin transactions can confirm in about 1 hour.

Your selected audience were professionals and they are fixed on the thought that credit cards are much better than bitcoin. The first thing that you should look for are entrepreneurs that are positive thinkers and are experts in multi level marketing business as well as online merchants will have more possibility that they will listen to you. Another thing younger generations are much keen to listen than adults who think they are much better and wiser than you. So in order to convince someone you must approach people that positive thinking and those who are not above you or with the same level as yours.

Yes, those days are in the past now. We have to find a solution to do fast transactions, otherwise, it will be really tough to introduce it to new people and make them realize the value of Bitcoin. I don't feel silly in introducing Bitcoin as an investment now, coz it is. People think more of it as an investment rather than a currency.

I agree, it's a huge shame how Bitcoin is getting less "grassroots" to put it that way.  It's harder to explain when the block size is too small for it to be as simple or quick a transaction as it needs to be. Mining is also less accessible since mining with PC gets you essentially nothing anymore.  It's such a great technology and based on great ideas and a great investment and so much else but on the surface is pretty hard to tell people about, especially with all the stigma about Bitcoin in the press, such as its association with illegal activities, all the scams, and the notion that it's "dead".

But I think it's the idea of something being digital and decentralised that's so great.  You can send to anyone, whereas before you could only either send to people online if you give them loads of private banking details, and in person you'd have to be near them.

The damn slow transactions are annoying, though.

Stay optimistic, ten people you explain about bitcoin, there is always one or two people who would be interested. Keep trying to build a good community. Expensive bitcoin transaction costs and often used by criminal mafia is not main reason for people who understand financial assets.

Develop confidence in group gradually until they engage in bitcoin business. We shouldn't give up because opportunity doesn't always come twice in our lives, and as long as there is no prohibition on anyone.

First of all introducing so many people to bitcoin is really good but I still don't get it. The people to whom you introduce are they that dumb if you bitcoin is getting mostly an increase of 5$ per day so are they that dumb that they can't understand that the price is increasing and I don't think they listened to you that bitcoin is a currency and straight away invested without even knowing that it's price keeps changing. Doesn't make any sense!!

It is difficult decision, imo, after 3 years promoting bitcoin and it has to end. I also think even bitcoin has the other good feature than credit card or bank, but many people are not comfortable with high fees while they can do transaction without paying fees.

Every user who have introduced bitcoin to friends and members around the locality has the same feeling. I believe its just a temporary problem that has occurred because of the increased price that creates a traffic in getting priority in confirmation. Sometimes even increased fee doesn't get confirmed.

That is exactly what I faced. Introducing bitcoin is easy but explaining it is very difficult, and this was the 1st question among many which my friends asked me when I told them about bitcoin. Promoting bitcoin is a great thing as more bitcoin adoption is better but I just thing is people explore bitcoin by themselves is better and know if bitcoin is really for them or not.

You know, people didn't think they needed computers back in the past... And I think that this situation with Bitcoin really can change only if we continue spreading a word about Bitcoin, pointing out to its advantages (for example, c'mon, if you want to send money to another part of the world at a low cost, it is really a good stuff), and showing that Bitcoins is something people should pay attention to, cause it can then be late for them, there will be a breaking point when Bitcoin becomes really widespread.
Everything unknown frightens people.
My point is not to give up, because, by driving btc adoption we can steadily raise the price of Bitcoin, at least, provided there are no considerable stresses in the industry.

I have to agree with OP opinion.
Earlier one of the advantages of bitcoin was cheap, almost free transactions. Now it's gone. Bitcoin transactions is quite expensive, not cheaper than bank transfers. You have to pay fees if you want to avoid stucked transaction. Now even international bank transfers are not expensive due to such things like SEPA system.

Talk as an expert when you explain about bitcoin to your friends. Initially talking about something that's easy & without any investment costs such as how to obtain bitcoin of a signature campaign that you follow. A few moments later, when asked about investment and payment, you need to explain if these are virtual assets that has big trust, community, and level of outstanding transactions.

If you are not able to explain further more, you direct them to be active in this forum, I'm sure they will learn a lot independently.

I still introduce people to Bitcoin as an investment option and also for remittance but not as a better alternative to cash or credit cards. We

cannot compare in speed or value for money, when it comes to micro transactions. Yes, you can send $ 1 000 000 000 for the same fee as you

would send $50 for instance, but once you start making multiple payments per day, Bitcoin is definitely not the cheaper option. It sucks, but

this has become the reality now.  >:(

+1 to OP, just investment reason others counters with sounds like ponzi to me, "buy Bitcoin now and sell to greater fool who buys Bitcoin later". I dont think just investment can work for too long, and even if Bitcoin is only used for remitance payments in the future, its still limited by few transactions per second so the more popular, the less usefull because of increasing fees - and one day it become too expensive for remitance payments as well.

The Bitcoin transcation  fee is increasing day by day as we see delay in confirmation if the amount is set as high. Even with high fee, the tx takes time for confirmation and we need to address this situation as soon as possible.

That's why it depends on people view about bitcoin if they like to try something new. Since some of the people still like the old way and according to their comparison that bitcoin is not that wise thing to use then just let them on how they was.

But on the other hand, there are also people that even they have no idea about what bitcoin really is, wants to test what is this really all about. This kind of people witnessed the advantage of using bitcoin even not taking some basics and ideas from the others.

You already gave them some basics explanation and that's it. It's their loss anyway.

And moreover, you can have a good security and become an anonymous person. LOL keep using FIAT dude and you will become rich with it :D

I do not know why you are happy evading tax to the government.  They are the authority that keep your country safe from inside out.  Develop your infrastructure, supply goods to those who needs it and even give you free medical support.  And besides, if ever government accepted and regulated Bitcoin you will be paying taxes too aside from the transaction fee.

Actually there are things that we could blame bitcoin itself, since increase in value and network traffic is inevitable bitcoin should've had plans ahead of time to maintain somehow a stable confirmation time and fees cost, after all not every one is able to be a miner to say go mine and take advantage of high fees people willing to pay, we need for developers to take an immediate action to solve block size issue and miners and nodes to come to a consensus agreement.
I know pay a high fee to confirm fast but wasn't the low or no fee a promise?

Developers have the fix or plan but they  can't come into a consensus since they have different view on how to solve the issue.  This is one of the drawback of being decentralized, there is no governing body that decide which is which especially when it comes to important issue that will affect Bitcoin's future.

after 3 years of introducing bitcoin to other people and getting at least 100 of them into bitcoin I have stopped.

because all these years I have never told anyone bitcoin is an investment, whenever there is talk of bitcoin I first say bitcoin is a currency and show them the benefits of it as a currency, being decentralized as the best thing and then the security and speed and finally the cheap fees and lots more.
then I introduce them to services they can use with bitcoin, and all the discounts they can get.

but honestly I can no longer give any answer to the question saying "why would I pay $0.9-$1 fee for using a new thing called bitcoin that I don't even understand instead of using my credit card for free that I have been using my whole life."

of course I can always start arguing about lots of other things and benefits and start talking about bitcoin being an investment but deep down I agree with them and also I hate telling new people "bitcoin is an investment and you are gonna make profit from price rise", that is just silly.

First, thank you for all your hard work and effort in order to find new bitcoin users.
You did really great job!
Second, you gave very good explanation about bitcoin. They shouldn't look at bitcoin as investment.
Third, let's deal with their question about fees.
I never had to pay 0.9-1 $ for my BTC transactions.
They can offer smaller fee and still their transaction will be confirmed.
CC is never 100 % free, because of membership fees or provision by merchants.
Also, it's very easy to truck CC transactions by bank or tax office.
BTC transactions they can't truck or follow.
For me, more than enough reasons to use bitcoin :)

Bitcoin shouldn't be explained as an investment, it's not the best way to do it. There is an ideology behind bitcoin and that should be the primary reasons to give and to make people understand. Bitcoin has advantages that currencies don't have. The fact about investment in Bitcoin can be done with basically any cuurency. If people start to use Bitcoin as an inventment and they lose money (because the price decrase or whatever reason) then they will get a bad image about bitcoin and will start yelling bitcoin is shit, as soon someone ask them about it

Arguing with them after you have clearly introduced it to them is not really worth of your time, we, bitcoiners promote the saying that "No to Devaluation" and of that devaluation is spending time on introducing bitcoin for this kind of people that only wants to earn money without paying anything even though little amount in return for the transaction fees, or those who wants to earn bitcoin but not dedicated enough or not doing anything to have bitcoin, this people are so annoying in a way.

And my experienced every time I introduced bitcoin to someone, their responses would be like this Oh okay, is there any easy way to earn bitcoin, I mean, you are earning bitcoin or could easily rank up without doing anything? , that is why, I quit on doing this, introducing bitcoin to someone, if they really interested on doing bitcoin, then start reading thread about Beginners and Help in this forum.

I also tried to introduce Bitcoins to others, but they also give that answer or they tell me that they wont waste their money on some dumb project. And the most annoying thing is when someone thinks it is complicated and wont even try after my 2 hours of speaking and teaching them about it.

You can't please everybody. If they don't want to, then don't teach them. They are all saying that this "bitcoin" is a waste of money and time is because they didn't tried this kind of beautiful project yet.. But i'm sure that if they have open minded mind then it will be easy for them to adopt bitcoin and also get profit by doing the things that you advice.

I'd say keep selling the concept as a currency, but explain to new users that they'll need to persevere for a while and wait until it becomes more practical to use it in that way.  The problem with giving up is that there are a small but determined number of people who would like Bitcoin to become some sort of exclusive asset class when that clearly wasn't the original vision.  These people cannot be allowed to pervert the idea of decentralised cash for the internet.  If they are successful in making Bitcoin practically unusable for the average person, they get what they want.  Bitcoin should not become an elitist plaything for the privileged few.  We need strength in numbers to ensure that won't happen.

Sooner or later anyone interested in BTC will reach exchange site and see the charts. How then would you explain such volatility + how to convince anyone that BTC could be treated as regular mean of payment, when you have to think about current market price, to not loose when you decide to pay for anything? I would say, that 75% of the marketcap is driven by speculation purposes.

Not only mining is a tight competition but it seems there is a competition among users to pay a higher fee, I did a small transaction and I willingly and on purpose paid 0.0008 while blockchain said there is no need for such high fee but I felt obligated as a supporter to give a little and in return I hope miners do the same when they're called upon to activate block size increase.
You don't get to use bitcoin as long as is in your best interests you need to sacrifice if you really want this experiment to move forward.

Totally agree with you mate. Also, the fact that there are quite many people already using bitcoins, speculations happens and the prices of it becomes volatile. This is also a good opportunity for some savvy traders, to profit due to high volatility of bitcoins.

I feel that people on this forum are still too fully controlled on the idea that Bitcoin is going to overtake all currencies and is better than all currencies we have at the moment. You can't be paying a 50 cent or higher fee on transactions and ATTEMPT to tell me that Bitcoin is better than using a credit card that is accepted everywhere.

I've never agreed with someone higher on this forum when it comes to this subject, hats off to you for noticing the issues with bitcoin at the moment.

I will agree with you on the fact that this internet currency is having issues but I wouldn't go to the extreme of calling it a shitty currency, it's still in its growing nature and I wouldn't go ahead and judge it on it's 8th or 9th year on how well it will do forever.

I disagree with you, the transaction fees are getting higher and it is making Bitcoin unpopular especially to the yet to be told and the newbies. I think he made a brilliant point that it's silly to pay so much for a new technology while my conventional credit card charges nothing to perform a similar transaction.
yeah if you are forced to use a low fee and inexpensive. certainly a confirmation will not occur in a short time. may even be confirmed in a few days. oh it was very annoying you know ?

I don't know how many people you talk to when it comes to sharing things like this, but for a large majority of people they will not go and look at Youtube videos unless you either show it to them or they have a very real an intense interest with whatever it is they are going to go look for.

You should be able to give a clear synopsis and give them information quickly and easily. Then you're able to actually make progress.

Legit point, but you can answer that bitcoin is much better and faster in remittance service than credit card or debit card. And it is the advantage of bitcoin.

Credit cards give you an assurance that if seller cheats you still you can claim back your funds with all the proofs. But in the case of bitcoins, you need to go through with trusted escrow, and you end up paying an extra fee and also it will delay your transaction. Bitcoins transactions are fast only to deal with known or trusted persons. So for me, bitcoins are useful only for investment purpose and not for doing any fast transactions.

{sorry to be off-topic}
how about using a multisignature address instead of an escrow? have you ever thought about that!

you and your seller use a 2 of 2 multisig and you put the funds there, as the seller sees the funds are in the key he sends you the goods and you sign your half of the transaction with your key and give it to the seller, he then does the second signature and spends the funds.

no additional fees required.

How about sending $5 with a fee of $1 does it sees like a small amount on that transaction? No its not actually and people would really not plan to pay off huge fess specially on small amount transactions but talking about big transfer I wont really mind at all since its just too small to bother about.

this makes me think that bitcoin is only best for investment, i told many people around me that bitcoin is either as a currency or as an investment, then they found out that sometimes the confirmation time is too long. So for this reason i'm really afraid to tell people that bitcoin is currency, maybe good for investment but it's not a good idea since they just came to bitcoin for buy them and hold untill they rich then dump it. Well I know that you're using credit card and the fee is free, but bitcoin's fee is really cheap if we compare it to other form of payment like paypal or western union. I personally don't have credit card, well to be honest i don't like it, so i must confess that bitcoin is still best for me.

If people really want to use Bitcoin, then they don't need a lot of persuasion, some people just aren't ready to move on and they need a lot of educating about Bitcoin. And since when are you paying a fee of 1 dollar, that is an extremely high amount to be paying for fees as most people spend 10c-50c on the fess. Also, how is it silly to tell them that it is an investment and like all other investments, you can earn or lose money. That doesn't seem silly to me at all. That is the same with gold or any other investment, if you tell someone they should invest, they should already know what could happen if they do invest.

Depends on how you tell your friend about bitcoin and how much the money the can earn from it. If you're telling them that they can make about 10USD(for free) a week while they're based in first world countries which majority of them are developed countries, then they will seem to not give an attention to bitcoin.
Telling them that bitcoin can be sort of investment may probably increase the chance for them to join you and become a bitcoin adopter because with investing you can make so much money depends on your capital and your skill while earning bitcoin for free will make you struggling to earn every penny of it.

here is a crazy idea for some of you who are talking about credit card fees, taxes and all other things about banks. it may be hard for you to believe specially those from US but there are a lot of other countries and people online are from all around the world. and in other countries people aren't getting bumfoked by the government and taxes. ;D

where I live, I pay zero fees and zero taxes for using a credit card when I purchase things online or from the shops offline using their machine thingy. and for transferring money using my credit cards there are multiple options one of which having a tiny fixed fee of equal to 10 cents and other options are free. again zero tax

I am not so familiar with Europe banking system but there is this thing called SEPA that allows you to transfer money free but I may be wrong , I have just read about this.

with that said, I am well aware of the price and how good a investment bitcoin is. and on top of that if you read OP I have said that there are lots of other benefits to using bitcoin, but the fee war which means a fierce competition of who pays bribes miners more is a big downside that we can not ignore.

p.s. and it is not just about $1 fee, although that is still a high amount in many countries with low hourly wage but it is the rising fees. what are you going to say in a month or a couple of months when fees are $2? what will you say when it is $5 and so on?

I still try to introduce it to new peoples, as both Investment and Transaction medium. Though it is facing some issues, we cannot ignore its capability and application in the market. But sometimes a unusual sound created in my mind why I am teaching to other people about Bitcoin who are unknown .
Unfortunately some people don't understand about its importance and abuse me , then after this I leaved Bitcoin teaching fully .
Now many people askinge to teach Bitcoin but I refused directly them .
So here it is better to understand itself instead to get kniwlege by a person who is already in this field .
Herr google is a big thing to understand about Bitcoin , we should not loss our time to explain about .

Transaction is an important issue to many people. It does not affect you because you only transfer a small amount of bitcoin. With the people who deal with much Bitcoin, they need transactions to be confirmed as fast as possible. If it can not be confirmed immediately, they will lose all of their money. LOL. Bitcoin is kind of personal, invest then forget type of thing.

Letting people know about Bitcoin wasn't really the thing for me as well so I could kind of see where you are coming from.

yes 1$ transaction fee is such a huge fes for user who transact $30 or less. eventually spending less bitcoin is worthless now a days because we have to spend about 0.5 to 1$ charge which is really discouraging.

yes this is the major demerit of bitcoin. wish there were no transaction fees and then we could have use it for free. so make new user get discouraged to use bitcoin.

after 3 years of introducing bitcoin to other people and getting at least 100 of them into bitcoin I have stopped.

because all these years I have never told anyone bitcoin is an investment, whenever there is talk of bitcoin I first say bitcoin is a currency and show them the benefits of it as a currency, being decentralized as the best thing and then the security and speed and finally the cheap fees and lots more.
then I introduce them to services they can use with bitcoin, and all the discounts they can get.

but honestly I can no longer give any answer to the question saying "why would I pay $0.9-$1 fee for using a new thing called bitcoin that I don't even understand instead of using my credit card for free that I have been using my whole life."

of course I can always start arguing about lots of other things and benefits and start talking about bitcoin being an investment but deep down I agree with them and also I hate telling new people "bitcoin is an investment and you are gonna make profit from price rise", that is just silly.
So who says credit cards are free?Dont they charge the fee too?Bitcoin is better than CC not just because of fee but also because of financial freedom that it gives to you.

I wish everyone see it that way. Even on this forum, have always spoken against it. The investment aspect will encourage hoarding. With time, more stores accepting it, it will take the place of currency and we wont have to argue it

Why do you even want people to use bitcoin to purchase items ,they are absolutely right that why should they pay so much fees when they have credit card. Does anyone of you use gold to spend around ?No right then why can't we use bitcoins just for investing purpose.

i am pretty sure that Credit Cards charge a borrowing fee (interest) when people swipe the card. Maybe he didn't get the memo lol

I disagree with you, the transaction fees are getting higher and it is making Bitcoin unpopular especially to the yet to be told and the newbies. I think he made a brilliant point that it's silly to pay so much for a new technology while my conventional credit card charges nothing to perform a similar transaction.

It may sound "silly" now.. but in 5 to 10 years.. when financial system has collapsed (and this definetly will happen),
the use and existence of Bitcoin will be loved.

The use and existence of Bitcoin will be loved by some people, but certainly not all of them.
Let's face it, a big part of the general population will just undergo another crisis without Bitcoin.

Some will turn to gold or other commodities, but to the average Joe, Bitcoin is just not as understandable as the latter.

Actually, Its hard for me to introduce bitcoin to others. Its not easy to explain to someone the process of bitcoin. On how to use, to transfer money to the other. But, Ive been trying and I didnt stop still as long I can help them.

I also like you, we can hardly explain to people about Bitcoin, because they seem to have never heard of it. Today, I told my dad about Bitcoin, and he says it's just something deceptive, and he advised me to stay away. really bad, for those who do not understand it, it's like something very negative. I think we need to find ways to solve it

No it is easy to explain bitcoin to others as long as they are open minded then they can easily understand what are you trying to explain to them. Just tell them that bitcoin is just like physical money with a twist and that is volatility to its price and that is why we love playing this kind of game and investing more in bitcoin. Using bitcoin is easy to explain if you do it personally or actual because it is easier to explain if you are showing them how in person.

First of all you deserve a big round of claps, 3 years is a long time and it's takes some efforts to continue that long. I do understand why you want to quit but I would suggest you to refrain from it. You have already got 100 people in it and I feel you could do greater stuff and for Bitcoins. I would say you can just upgrade your approach. Just I feel it requires is a bit of tweaking and it's done. You already know why people want to stay away now you can use it for your own advantage. Just keep on doing the right stuff.

Indeed, if we are going to tell people that bitcoin is an Investment, though it is not, but maybe yes, in some way, but it is really not an investment at all. Some of us just have called it an Investment because they are trading bitcoin as their business or way to earn bitcoin, and they have invested their money to bitcoin as the capital to earn profits out of it. But, if this is the knowledge that people will think what bitcoin really is, then definitely they won't do it, because why they would invest their money to bitcoin and pay such fees every transaction, while they could do the usual thing they do, withdraw their money using their ATM cards without any fees, and also they will not take the risk, and just turn on doing bitcoin just to invest their money.

But, if we are going to introduce to them that bitcoin is the way they think it is, then probably they will change their minds and do it instead of rejecting the idea of bitcoin. Bitcoin is a source of income and we could earn money or bigger profits out of it than earning some fiats, so, if we are just going to introduce it to them correctly, then I guess there is no reason for us anymore to stop introducing bitcoin to others. :)

Absoulty right. The Topic should be totally opposite like  I have stopped using Fiat or something like that.  :D
The financial  system has already been started to collapse in few countries and the people in those countries already started investing in bitcoins.
Bitcoin is here to remain forever with us.

$1 fee is such a low amount.

Yes, but it is still better if you are not going to pay $1, and this is the excuse of the people that are only interested on bitcoin in first, but soon enough, they will quit doing bitcoin because of this, and also, because they find it boring. Most of the people are just want to earn bitcoin without doing anything at all, and it is not possible to earn bitcoin without doing anything at all, especially in this Forum. We are earning bitcoin here in a legit way, that is why it requires hard work, effort, and dedication, but most people didn't see it that way.

I have already introduced bitcoin to many people, and its the easiest way around that they want on earning bitcoin, and this is the thing that I'm always saying to them If you want to earn bitcoin easily, then invest your bitcoin in those HYIP sites out there, but never come to me crying because your bitcoin just vanished because a certain HYIP site scammed you

Your selected audience were professionals and they are fixed on the thought that credit cards are much better than bitcoin.

If we're talking purely about Bitcoin's usage as an online currency, to buy anything credit cards most certainly are better. You get more protection, cashback in certain cases and it's cheaper. I don't give a shit about merchant fees, all prices reflect them so they don't cross my mind.

If you already have Bitcoin which has risen then it's cool to spend. It's free money. You can't buy it cold without paying a premium and/or waiting forever for your stool sample to be dipped into by whoever you're buying from. So it's a 1-10% premium and then the tx fee on top. Pointless.

Bitcoin is many things, a good currency it isn't. I wonder how long most merchant usage is going to last. It's great for them. It's not enticing at all for the customer.

Good for you! Never provide any free service to anyone because you will not get anything back. So it is better to keep your bitcoin knowledge with you only and only share it with the like minded people and no one else. You will have to spend so much energy to make a layman understand about bitcoin.

So it is better to explain only to them, who are interested in earning money online. At least you can make them join as your referral for some money making website and earn some little amount. Otherwise, it is of no use truly!

If you are here only because Bitcoin is cheaper, and think that this is the most vital feature that it has, then you are here for the wrong reasons. The miners will be really sad with their 3 Exahashes about this thread. ::)

Go contact your 'favorite' pool provider and ask them to support Segwit, simple as that.

I believe that the financial system will cause serious problems and devaluations soon. Unfortunately, you can forget about using the Internet for bitcoin or anything else in such a scenario - ecerything will be on lockdown. All electronic payments will be limited. permissioned, and monitored.

I still try to introduce it to new peoples, as both Investment and Transaction medium. Though it is facing some issues, we cannot ignore its capability and application in the market. It has still great potential and features. The transaction might be slow even with high fees but atleast for me its hassle free.
Transaction is an important issue to many people. It does not affect you because you only transfer a small amount of bitcoin. With the people who deal with much Bitcoin, they need transactions to be confirmed as fast as possible. If it can not be confirmed immediately, they will lose all of their money. LOL. Right now, confirmation has really irritated many people

You can't force people to listen and understand what they don't believe in or do not care for.
They have their own life to live and also the way they want to do things.
That includes how and where they want to spend their money,
So until bitcoin can allow those people to do that where and whenever they like,
they will not listen or want to use bitcoin.
So you are just wasting your time on talking with them about it and the benefits that it could bring them as a whole.

Lol I get it OP but here's what you need to say to them: 95% of the population keep balances on credit cards. Those 95% are not using a free credit card. They're actually paying 2% or 3% a month on their balance (29.99% APR is horrible). Also, people pay a monthly fee for bank accounts in Canada so I'm assuming most cou tries have that too. I do know some cou tries have free banking though. Well technically if you want an online only bank they're available in Canada too for free. Either way there are going to be transaction fees because transactions use energy which costs someone money. If you aren't being charged transaction fees it's because you're getting fucked on a higher interest rate mortgage or something like that. Bitcoins let you get ahead, they're the wave of the future and they don't lose 2-3% of their value every single year, year over year until it's a worthless piece of shit.

I honestly don't even bother. ;D

If anyone asks me, I tell them, explain what I know about it, how I use it, what could be done with it, and so on. And, if they're truly interested, I try to guide, help, teach what to use, what to avoid, etc.

But, for me to take the initiative to convince others to try/get into bitcoin? No thanks.

I only share it to those truly interested and to those I care about.
As for others, they don't care, don't want to know, don't bother to try, and that's on them.

I am also with you, because when i was know about bitcoin, than i was very excited to introduce the bitcoin to others. But unfortunately, in my country, bitcoin was and now unique thing, that's why my friends and even my family members avoid to listen about bitcoin, even they always said to me, it will be fake and may be you lost your amount. Than i decided i don't care about anyone and i started work with bitcoin and since when i don't tell to anyone about bitcoin. Because bitcoin is good for me, and i don't want to introduce the bitcoin to others.
