Title: about an amd 6950
Post by: phillyj on April 19, 2013, 11:22:33 PM
I saw a refurb 6950 (gigabyte, I think). It's probably around $170. I was thinking of a 7870 and the cheapest is around $200, if I can sell the game codes for $20. The codes value have dropped and probably can't guarantee it.

Take a chance on a refurb 6950 or get a 7870?

Don't mention the ASIC and profit drops. It's more of a learning experience. Going to be modding my case too. The only cost I would have to recover is for the GFX and PSU which will probably be under $300.

my 6950 gets about 320-340 MH/s depending on how far I push it.

I vote for 7870:

Goals:
* 28 nm (7870) vs 40 nm process (6950)
* 175 watts (7870) vs  250 watts (6950) (at 100% load)
It mean draw less power / less heating as result.

Both ~350...400 MH/s.
