Title: SCAMMED by iDotz.net out of bitcoin payment
Post by: mobettabooze on March 02, 2017, 09:54:37 PM
iDotz.net asked me to fax them my ID which I told them I did not feel comfortable with.

I've never had to do that to register a domain before!

So I told them I'd like a refund for the domain and they responded by telling me they will not refund my money. They claim I gave them false information, which is not true! I've lived at my address for the past 17 years of my life!

They stole 0.042 BTC and some change which was worth $49 a few days ago and is obviously now going up much higher (which is the real reason why they refused to give me my money back!)

BUYER BEWARE!!!

The Scam Accusations board is over here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0). It'd make it easier to make judgments about this if you followed the scam report outline (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=260073.0).

Also, it looks like iDotz.net has been pulling these types of actions for a while: link one (https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/idotz-net-is-a-scam.1512565/), link two (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1003939).

Just curious, but did you intend to buy multiple domains from them because $49 seems like a lot to send to a domain registrar? Have you tried calling them, since they are apparently a registered company in the US? From the sounds of it, they have been running this scam for quite some time now, seeing as people cannot do basic research on the company they are sending money to. You're right, do not send identity documents to companies like this as they will probably find a way to use them for further fraud.

people cannot do basic research on the company they are sending money to.

Yeah, sure, blame the victim.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know so that nobody else loses money to them.

Well, there was a couple questions in there for you to answer, but I guess you're not interested in any help and just want to vent. What use are scam reports like this if people don't look for them before sending money to strangers?
