Title: [GIVEAWAY] DividendRippler.com Beta Testing
Post by: TTBit on April 21, 2013, 12:52:39 PM
Giving away ~$5 worth of BTC/LTC/TRC (mixed, our choice) to the first 100 replies. Ripple haters welcome.

To participate:

1) Set up your ripple address on the DividendRippler.com site.  DividendRippler OP (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=180717.0)
2) Post/PM your ripple address after registering on the site.
3) We will send specie payments of BTC / LTC / TRC to the issue addresses. I'll reply with the tx(s). Total will be ~$5 worth. Our choice what to send, you get what you get.

edit: ** Forgot to mention ** You will need to trust DividendRippler.com for an amount greater than what I send. If this happens, you'll need to flag the server to try it again by sending an XRP.

Do whatever you wish with the coins - trade them, deposit in bitstamp, or just withdraw them. To trade them in ripple, the issuing address will need to be DividendRippler.com (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX). But payments should just ripple through the system, if a path is found.

We'd like to get responses about the user experience, and of course any bugs.

To be eligible:
* Must have at least +32 posts to qualify.
* Only 1 giveaway per ripple address per user.

** To clear up some confusion: We have called this an 'anonymous' gateway. By anonymous, we don't mean a mixer. Anonymous means no username & password needed to use the gateway.

1XRP is a little steep though.. couldn't you achieve the same confirmation/registration with a 0.00001XRP transfer :)

Whoops. Not set up. You'll need to hit register then send 1 XRP to the address to prove you own it. Once you get Issue Addresses, you are set up (that is where I will send the coins)

But he owes me now :)

Well, I was assuming you were just using it to confirm ownership of the ripple account, in which case a 0.00001 would be equally effective.  But if you want to use it as an opportunity to make a profit perhaps label it as a charge or registration fee just to be clear.

Love the concept though, thanks for the freebies..

The "Movement table" was quite handy to show me that I also needed to trust you for LTC and TRC..

One question, when you want to issue me some BTC iou I can see you sent the actual BTC to a seperate BTC address on its own.. how come? wouldnt it be easier for you to not move the BTC and just issue the IOU?

You are correct, any amount of XRP would do. In fact there is a social engineering angle to using exactly 1.000 XRP. It may be changed to a smaller, random amount.

In the OP, I did list the 1 XRP as a fee.

Why am I sending 'real BTC' for IOUs? One point of the giveaway is to show how to get funds into ripple. Anyone can send to your personal issue addresses for ripple credit.

You don't 'owe' us anything! When you hold DR IOUs, DR owes you.

Oh right, yeah that makes sense.  I had forgotten about the step of actually needing to send you funds because I was being cheap and getting freebies :)

We're hoping to change that. It takes a very raw way to look at banking and IOUs. But once the mindset is there, it becomes clear. There is an "AHA" moment that is needed. For example - how would you explain twitter to someone 25 years ago?

My balance is 0; do I need any balance to start using it?

EDIT: Ok, it seems it comes back online using the PC from where I signed up. Can somebody please send me a couple of ripples so that I can 'trust' others?

Can I ask, how did you set the TransferRate on your ripple account to charge 0.19% on transfers?

Because the web client cant do it, and there is no easy way to do local transaction signing without the rippled software.

The 'offline' is hit and miss for me. You'll need to be able to trust DividendRippler for the 3 chains, plus 1 XRP for signing up. But this giveaway is to increase your balance above zero.

I really have no idea if I did this correctly at all.

Edit to add: I don't have LTC or TRC receiving addresses set up. Is that a problem, or only if I try to redeem the IOU?

I also have to say that I think it's hilarious the ripple folks tout their system as "simpler than BTC".

I'm playing with this thing and set aside a small amount of balance that could be lost in order to establish trustlines. I used previous issued amounts to gauge how much trust to set.

Will be interesting to see assets exchange through the system. Still would prefer Ripple to be open with fair XRP distribution but hey here's to hoping.

what is

To Redeem
transfer your ripple funds to
rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100002003

----

why do I have to send ripples to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100002003 to get what I already have ?
and how much do I need to transfer ?

----

I just want to get these BTC/LTC/TRC into my pc wallets .

You don't send ripples to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100002003, you send the currency you want in your client. Example: You were sent 7.281 TRC via your issue address. Sending 7.281 TRC to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100002003 will destroy 7.281 TRC IOUs and send the specie - or actual TRC - to 1PYCrM6xLHgZMKt82ToJKxGxDM1ue5jS1C in your client!

Can't see any TRC in my wallet (which would be a new IOU for me) - do I need to do anything more? I guess this is why we test. I can see a pathway for LTC, USD & XRP but nothing else. I have the trust levels set less than 1USD equivalent on each but I thought that should be enough.

LTC: You got an error, meaning you probably didn't trust DividendRippler for any LTC. You have to type it in.
TRC: I sent TRC from my client to your dividendrippler assigned address, 1LExEmTdz7AbiQaZ698WraASNwabYPFym8. Once it has 6 confirms, the IOU will be issued (currently 3)

Everyone who wants to buy more ripples, inside the ripple wallet go to Advance -  trust lines -add new trust line - and you add this one from dividend rippler rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX, then go to Trade - select BTC/XRP - change issuer - and put the dividend rippler addres you just added.

and now you can make bids and aks

of course you need to have bitcoins in your ripple wallet, go to bitstamp  - withdrawal  and select ripple.

 ;)

It will stay in error until retried from the server. You can manually flag the server to issue you LTC by sending 1 xrp to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 from your ripple account. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for a global retry, about 1 per day at this time.

TTBit, am I right to assume that if I want to add more LTC/BTC/TRC to my ripple account, I would send those coins to the LTC/BTC/TRC Issue Addresses listed on my DR ripple account?

And if I want to move LTC/BTC/TRC out of my ripple account, I would goto my Ripple client, click 'Send', Recipient will be rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=<My DR Account #> and select either LTC/BTC/TRC and the DR gateway will in turn forward the coin to my wallet, based on my programmed LTC/BTC/TRC addresses?

Exactly!

To issue ious in a specific ripple address, you send the actual coins (I say 'specie') to the addresses generated by DR.

The redemption addresses are user created, and will destroy the IOU and send back the specie to user's client.

Cool. One more thing. Can I use IOUs created by DR and trade it somewhere else? e.g. I send 1 BTC to my ripple account via DR. Then I want to create a trade at bitstamp to sell the 1 BTC for XXXX XRP? My guess is not possible, unless bitstamp is willing to accept DR IOUs. Correct?

Why don't you try it :)

Yes, it is possible! That is the whole point of ripple. But no, bitstamp does not accept DR ious. What happens is ripple will find someone who has BTC.Bitstamp and BTC.DR and make that account a middleman. It will debit your BTC.DR account and credit the middleman BTC.DR, and it will debit the middleman BTC.Bitstamp and credit yours. Now you have enough BTC.Bitstamp to send to them.

You can do that, but the sender is forced to pay all fees. That means you pay the 0.20% to bitstamp and 0.15% to DR.

Everyone who wants to buy more ripples, inside the ripple wallet go to Advance -  trust lines -add new trust line - and you add this one from dividend rippler rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX, then go to Trade - select BTC/XRP - change issuer - and put the dividend rippler addres you just added.

and now you can make bids and aks

of course you need to have bitcoins in your ripple wallet, go to bitstamp  - withdrawal  and select ripple.

 ;)
be carefull with this scammer

rGT8McyUdAvWaHcL1VbpqdAqmrZ17ifEPs the tree fails  :'( i sen repples again

We'll get there  8)

You must explicitly state that you believe DR ious of BTC/LTC/TRC are good. As you trust other gateways for BTC/LTC/TRC, you are explicitly stating that you are open to swapping one set of BTC ious for another set of BTC ious. For example, if you trust Bitstamp BTC and DR BTC, you are allowing ripple to go into your account and adjust the balances of each, as long as the total comes out the same and trust lines haven't been breached.

To accept DR, go to advanced -> trust. Click on the '+' and add DR's address (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX). for an amount of BTC you feel comfortable with, this must be at least as high as the IOUs you are trying to collect.

You should name the address "DividendRippler.com" when given the option.

Repeat for LTC and TRC. For LTC and TRC, you must actually type it into the box. It is not in the dropdown.

Once your trust lines are adequate, try flagging the server once more, by sending 1 XRP to: rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1

Sad, but yes. Those are the litecoin network fees, DR doesn't get those.

clicking on the 'done' link under your account (https://dividendrippler.com/rd?_=51754bceb4688a3908a7ccba) will give you the tx hash

I have ripple wallet, with XRP - I added the  DividendRippler.com contact correctly -
I only have the option of "trusting" DividendRippler.com for BTC (which I have done)-- But I see no option to trust LTC or TRC.

You don't have BTC/LTC/TRC addresses set up yet. You will need to to set those addresses and send another XRP. OR you could try to send the coins to bitstamp, and withdraw from there. If you go this route, please let me know how it goes.

Yes. This is one area that I would like to explore with DR. DR makes a small amount by having the IOUs trade. But there is currently no incentive for anyone to hold them beyond immediate trading. I'd like to pay the holders of DR ious from the trading revenue. It would make our IOUs superior to all others.

But that is phase 2

Ah...I see! I hope the final release is a little more simplified and doesn't require people to have XRP in advance. If so, the whole Ripple idea will be confined to a small community of members. From what I see so far, it's all way too complicated for the average person.

People don't trust what they don't understand (or at least have the perception of understanding).

Thanks for the info!  ;)

[my question was answered - but I wanted to leave this up for any one else with the same question]

I have ripple wallet, with XRP - I added the  DividendRippler.com contact correctly -
I only have the option of "trusting" DividendRippler.com for BTC (which I have done)-- But I see no option to trust LTC or TRC.

Answer: to type in LTE and TRC - it doesn't matter if they are not in the drop-down menu

***

I Registered and sent 1XRP to Dividend Rippler.com -

Ripple address is: r3z24N1mAS7EQBeswjHUr6T7rNiNUbqu8e

sent!

You'll need to say LTC (not LTE) or the tx will go to error for insufficient trust

BTC: 0.022 (3fdbd35bfc) LTC: 0.42 (0162be7fe5 ) TRC: 3.386 (525b27c56e)

Thanks! got it! Yes, typo in here- but not in ripple :)

Redeemed my coins yesterday and everything went well. Thank you!

The only thing lacking in the whole experience was any kind of meaningful description of what the service is for, on the homepage. I know it might be obvious to the people in the know but as a Ripple noob I felt in the dark about how DividendRippler.com might ever be of practical use to me. So I thought it could have done with a description of what the service is beneficial for -  some kind of promo text explaining how it works hand-in-hand with Ripple. Just thoughts :)

Thanks for the input. We have a link to the OP for our announcement of DR, but agree it is not enough. We have adocument ready to go for a "how to use" page, but quite frankly, it sucks, too long and complex. One point of this giveaway was to see how users figure things out and if we can agree on language describing getting coins into and out of ripple using DR.

error - I don't see any Issue addresses. Doesn't appear you sent the 1 XRP from sending address.

Sorry, I didn't understand.

Now I did send the 1XRP, do I get a second chance? :)

Of course. Coins sent.

You don't have BTC/LTC/TRC addresses set up yet. You will need to to set those addresses and send another XRP. OR you could try to send the coins to bitstamp, and withdraw from there. If you go this route, please let me know how it goes.

BTC: 0.018 (99ec826287) LTC: 0.804 (4db01663f2 ) TRC: 2.035 (a30ccc706e)

I see the transactions now, but they say "error".

Now I have set up the adresses, and granted enough trust. Will the transactions complete by themselves?

Not really easy to use, both Ripple and DividendRipple... thanks for letting me try and understand nevertheless! ;)

There is one global retry for all payments that are in error. To get an immediate result, send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 from your ripple account. This will flag the server to retry errors in your accout.

We'd like to make it easier. But now that you have the setup, you should be golden. If you want BTC in ripple, just send to your issue address.

Not sure I follow you but first let me ask.

Can I just use Ripples internal trade features to buy more XPR's with the 0.02 btc?

That is all I want now. If I can not, I am confident I will figure out what you are saying when my bitstamp account get funded.

I am waiting on Bitstamp. Wish there were better faster, more anonymous gateways.

Ok, now I have them  8)

I redeemed part of the BTC in Bitstamp, all well.  :) Actually, Bitstamp is a bit more friendly: it offers an option "add funds with Ripple", which automatically opens the right page.
It's still a bit confusing the idea that I have to "send to" someone (Bitstamp) if I want that funds redeemed and credited to ME, one needs to really understand how Ripple works not to get confused.
Also, I kept getting "no path found"... when the problem really was that I had forgot a zero, and so I didn't have enough funds. Not really helpful at all for an unexperienced user.

I am waiting confirmation for the TRC redemption through DividendRippler, all well on that side apparently, at last :)

You should(?) be able to go to the BTC.bitstamp / XRP market and put in an order, and have it ripple through with DR btc. I can't test from my wallets, they are all tainted with bitstamp btc. Let me know how it turns out. Other option is to use the BTC.dr / XRP market, but it isn't as deep.

Keep in mind that bitstamp already had you send specie coins to them first. They gave you an address, which you sent and waited for the 6 confirms. THEN you asked for ripple funds. We are actually 1 less step - just send funds to the issue address.

As for 'sending' to get something, it's confusing because we have been exposed to a different system for the last 100 years. In the old days when we were on a gold standard, you would bring in gold for a gold IOU (US currency), and redeem us currency for gold. Same concept here. Now, we are all used to the "IOU Nothing" system, where nothing is redeemable.

Regarding your XRP fate, it depends on where you sent it. can you provide the transaction hash for that (click on the entry in the ripple client history)?

The redemption addresses you can put just bitcoin, or even not put any at all, but you can only redeem (receive the coins you have as DR IOUs) if you have an address set.

Your transaction is correct, and was sent to dt=1. The ripple client doesn't show the destination tag on the confirm page, but if it had taken it away the send would not work at all, just try once to send without adding the dt= and you'll see it is not allowed.

Anyway, lets retrace your steps and after you have completed the registration we'll be glad to refund you your lost XRP. In steps:

- Search for your address in https://dividendrippler.com
- Enter what addresses you want to use for redeeming, just BTC is fine, you can even not use any at all
- Press register
- You'll see the notice to send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 within 5 minutes
- Send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 before the 5 minutes have expired (I'm assuming this was the problem last time, and I'll check to make sure we don't have a bug in the registration process)
- Search for your address again in a few seconds and it should now show you your issue and redeem addresses, and the deposit request warning should be gone

Let us know how it goes!

I am not able to write the correct address, it always takes the last 5 digits away from the address "Recipient" when I will send the XRP. What's wrong?

The code from my previous sent XRP is Transaction # 0AE28CE02CAB3D93C9D2A82C9CFEFC1D96D41B646E22A511B7A392AB3A64C6E5

No problem. Instructions are posted if you click on the tx in your ripple address on the DR site. Increase your trust lines for at least the amounts trying to be sent. You have to actually type in LTC and TRC, BTC is in the drop down as you are aware.

Then you need to flag our server to try again by sending 1 xrp from your address to: rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 . Should only be a few seconds after that

OK. I notice that DividendRippler.com has been forgotten by my ripple contacts list. This is either a bug or functionality I don't understand. I put it back in. This time I even set the destination tag to 1. I sent XRP 1 and I got back your IOUs! Great!

Looks like it's working but the process is a little laborious. Good luck with your project.

Hello, my Ripple address is:

rP4yzfx31SJWQtEfDKzM9KP8Dd9MJQ4R8a

But I cannot register to your site cause I don't have 1 XRP (I was never given one in the free giveaways..)

Could you kindly elaborate on this? What is it exactly that makes this sound like a scam?

You need to trust DividendRippler.com for an amount greater... that's the way ripple works, you must trust the sender for at least what gets sent. You are receiving a promise that DR holds that much coins on your behalf, so you must trust DR for at least that.

You'll need to flag the server (..) by sending an XRP... We are not getting rich off of you one XRP at a time, and TTBit has mentioned the errors are all retried once per day. You just need to send the XRP to tell the server that "the owner of this address has changed the trust lines and wants an immediate retry".

I know many things in the bitcoin realm look good and end up being scams, but providing a comment such as yours adds nothing but uncertainty to the discussion. If you feel we are trying to scam you please provide a reasoning for that.

My mistake, you will need to trust for an amount equal to or greater than what I send. But not to worry. You can wait to see how much is in queue for you, and then trust for only what is there.

But you do bring up a good point -> If you DON'T TRUST THE GATEWAY, DON'T TRUST THE GATEWAY! The angle may not be obvious, but if you trust a sketchy gateway for BTC, you will be left with sketchy BTC while others drain the 'good btc' out of your account.

Also, it seemed others can edit my Redemption Address (BTC, LTC and TRC) at the https://www.dividendrippler.com?

PM sent (increase trust for LTC)

Anyone can request to edit your redemption address, but they must be verified by sending an xrp to our server from the ripple address in question.

Hi TTBit,
You called this "beta testing" so I want to give you a test report. I'm a noob with these coin clients so feel free to tell me to check the nut behind the keyboard. That said, here is what I see on my end.

1) Dividend Rippler
https://www.dividendrippler.com/account?_=rHUipvsbBKagmU5qxFYCVfRoHKkBaYztm2
Your site shows "failed payments". You said above that those can be ignored.

2) BitCoin
I'm using Electrum 1.7.3 but it shows that I have a zero balance.
BlockExplorer report my address as "Never seen"
http://blockexplorer.com/q/addressfirstseen/186ZJv7Bm1ydrsVxPDuVtdJNZZUwAXL2jH

3) LiteCoin
My LiteCoin client is still syncing the block chain, so I can't take its opinion as authoritative.
However, the litecoin explorer reports "Address not seen on the network."
http://explorer.litecoin.net/address/LP5KRWi12LaKvNX2G1JMwrLFuQm26wYr8W

4) TerraCoin
Notice that on DividendRippler I didn't configure a TRC account. (I'm on a Mac and I couldn't immediately find a Mac client.)
https://www.dividendrippler.com/account?_=rHUipvsbBKagmU5qxFYCVfRoHKkBaYztm2
However, your system attempted to send me TRC anyway.
THIS MIGHT BE A BUG. I'm not sure where those TRC would go if successful?

Anyway, that's my report. I hope it is helpful!
Red

The 'error' payments are there because you have not set sufficient trust with dividendrippler.com (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX). You'll need 3 lines of trust, one for TRC, BTC and LTC. Try increasing the trust - you'll have to type in LTC and TRC, they are not in the dropdown box. After that, send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 from your ripple address. This will flag our server to try issuing the IOUs in your account again.

I see that is your redeem address controlled by you, set up in DR. Once you have funds in your ripple account, try sending them to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100009111. Note this is the dividendrippler address, followed by your account number. The account number 100009111 tells our servers to send the specie payment (in this case BTC) to your 186ZJv7Bm1ydrsVxPDuVtdJNZZUwAXL2jH address. A fun trick is that you can send LTC, TRC, XRP, (or bitstamp BTC ious) and it should find a path to be withdrawn as BTC if you select it as so.

Same applies as above. What is super cool about ripple is that you can have TRC, LTC, XRP, etc in your ripple address, but don't have to withdraw in kind! You can accept TRC payments to your personal account (1ANrAZTYRbnG4opQ9XfpENGvCcKEW42FbR), but can withdraw as LTC or BTC, or even send yourself XRP. Of course, what is happening is that ripple pushes them through a market or finds someone willing to hold DR IOUs for Bitstamp IOUs.

OK, so now the whole process makes a lot more sense. I misunderstood the direction of coin send you were testing. I setup the trusts, re-sent 1 XRP and successfully received your three IOUs. Awesome!

You've created a really cool system.

Thanks.
It took a little while to figure it out, but it's fairly simple once you start using it.
I had to think of my BTC and LTC as "tokens" inside the ripple client.
There's not much liquidity yet, but i managed to send a few bitcents to bitstamp and paid in LTC which i thought was pretty nifty.

So one month later... did this offer seriously expire 2-4 days before I posted? Or did I set it up wrong?

Pretty sure they ended it considering it was only to the first hundred

I count no more than ~80 people posting ripple codes before me.

If OP was ending giveway, OP should edit first post to say he is ending giveaway. Or at the very least add a reply saying so.
