Title: Double Trouble (Instant/Automatic) w/ Partial Refunds! [12hr rounds]
Post by: NothinG on June 17, 2011, 12:53:57 PM
I admit I messed up.
I coded too much for too long, and didn't take the time to check my work; in the end, the users paid.
I am sorry for what happen, but I had other projects going on to which I had no time to spend to make Double Trouble right.

I ended up selling my script for an undisclosed amount of money.
The guy ended up creating (from what I take it) a MySQL version of what I did.
He has a better ideas for the script, and obviously a better design schema.

Trust me, hate me; I'm sorry.

What is it? not sure i understand.
Basically:
You put in 1BTC, and wait for someone to put in enough to Double 1BTC.
This keeps going until the game is over.

What an idotic ponzi scheme!

01 - 1
02 - 2
03 - 4
04 - 8
05 - 16
06 - 32
07 - 64
08 - 128
09 - 256
10 - 512

(this is not completly correct since I did't applied the "hosting and game" fees, which make any amout slightly smaller than mentioned)

So, basically if only 10 persons per day would participate, the 10th person had to risk 512 BTC in hopes some even bigger idiot would bring in 1024 BTC (that's only about 16.800 USD at this time). The last one either never gets his money back OR has to pay a 2% Fee which at that point would be the nice some of  336 USD.

Well, happy gaming ;)

If say the 10th person were the last person of the day, and they put in 512BTC then they would loose 2% (from fees) and get 509.44 back.
How is that bad?

It's not a ponzi scheme as the scheme initatior (person who started it) isn't taking an amount, only a cut.

So theoretically, only a small % is lost by the final poolee of the day, but with a chance of making a much greater amount.

They would have at least lost 2.56 BTC (42,50 USD @ 16.6) OR somehow the site went down and would have lost 512 BTC.

Good luck with your business!

That is how the game is setup.
If they choose to attempt to double that high, that's up to them.

No one is forcing anyone to do the exponential system like you suggest.

I do thank you for your input. :)

Yeah, it's just how the game is setup. To make people happy without feeling cheated.

Don't get me wrong - whoever wants to gamble can do so at their own risk.

BUT this guy has no means of reaching him whatsoever - no contacts on the site nor on his profile.
What if it becomes more profitable to simply shut the site down and keep the last poolee's coins?

Even the first person to participate has to risk 16.6 USD - I don't find this very attractive.

But, please play if you like it (and believe in the goodness of humankind)  ;)

Thanks for remind me.

I don't see how it could be more profitable than leaving it running.

Well, I entered for .1BTC, we'll see what happens.....

Btw, a countdown or time showing when the last round started would be an idea? Of course this could potentially stop people from entering later in the round I guess...

You've made yours too complicated.  I like the google spreadsheets the other two guys keep, and I like the one btc address so we can track on the bitcoin explorer site.  Keep it simple and people will play.

I just noticed I left out the bank balance variable to check to see what the pot is.
I just added it in there.

No money is lost or gone, just will take another people with at least 0.1BTC to pay the others out.
(I should probably setup a while loop to check the bank).

Actually, yeah...I'm going to setup a process to push payments if the pot is big enough (which is it at least for the first two people right now).

The SCI I use doesn't send the back the address of the person who paid. It just sends back "Bitcoin P2P Network".

Sorry about that automation.

[Edit]: Looks like the code is fixed up, and people are getting paid out!
If anyone would like to confirm their payment, that would be good. :)

And another entry :)

I do like an automated one, as it leaves no room for someone accidentally forgetting to add soemthing to a spreadsheet. (Although bugs could be disastrous).

edit: And more! :D

Yeah, my most recent bug was found when a new game starts.
It's suppose to send everyone who didn't get doubled their money back, but their was a flaw.

I think what I'm going to do is:
((Amount in Pot)/(Total Amount Unpaid))/(Total # of Unpiad)

I'm still working out the rest of this (such as the weight[amount] per person).

what happened to the refund?

(for those of you that don't realize it, there can be no refund in a game like this unless OP wants to pay out of their own pocket. By it's nature the "last entry" gets eaten up paying out the entries before it.)

If you haven't read my post right above yours I am trying to work out a way to at least give Some of the money back.

I'm thinking about taking the pot at the end of the game, finding out what percent of the money goes to who and I take a 2% fee from each person.
(Math is still a work-in-progress).

Roughly midnight, then the game restarts.

It's actually the servers timezone.
I'll add it on the front page (how much time is left before game restarts).

Fair enough.

Though you should at least work it out in a basic spreadsheet and see that depending on how the betting goes, people could be getting back very small fractions of what they put in.

Also there should be a countdown clock until reset.

AHH! lol

It was pretty late dude, and the concept was new. Hey but the program is pretty smooth:)
Are you doing a smaller time frame for the reset, or what ended up happening with that. I was thinking a big time frame was counter-productive.

I ended up going with the game resetting at midnight.
Currently working on the math to split the current bank between users who haven't gotten paid (when the game resets).
The problem I am having is the weight each user has on the bank as to make the split fair.

Thats a toughy. Its different for each person.

Leftover pot
*
(
User_X's Unpaid Deposit Amount
divided by
Total amount of deposits of unpaid users
)

Then your fee
I dont know how to apply that to code

Okay, I believe I have it down (took me a while lol)...
Maybe I can get the communities input before I put it in place? I want to make sure this is fair for everyone.
Code:
usr[1] = 1
usr[2]= 1.5
brank= 1.7

count($Id) =2

$share_math = ( how_much_you_put_in * bank )  /  #ofPlayers_UnPaid ;

$share[1] =   ( 1 * 1.7 )  /  2 ;
$share[1]=  0.85;
$amount2send = $share[1] - ($share[1]/200); //2% gameover fee
$amount2send = 0.84575;
send(user,amount2send);

$share[2] =   ( 1 .5 * 1.7 )  /  2 ;
$share[2]=  1.275;
$amount2send = $share[2] - ($share[2]/200); //2% gameover fee
$amount2send = 1.268625;
send(user,amount2send);

Mind the $ and non $ switching. I do that when I code in notepad -> calculator before I move it into notepad++ xD

Nice same as me.  So will you immediately post a new btc address at midnight for tomorrows game?
I don't use a specific BTC address for payments (well I do, hrm...maybe I should post it?).
It uses the SCI from mybitcoins.com (btw, if you use mybitcoins.com you can get free transactions instead of paying the program fee of 0.0005BTC. As the host, I still take the 1% and 2% fees).

The database goes through, splits the earnings (look a few post up about the math of that), deletes the database, and re-creates it.

[Edit]: The code is now in-place for refunds:
Code:
//get total amount the unpaid users have put in
$total = 0;
foreach($Id as $user)
{
$total = $Amount[$user] + $total; //they have in pot togeder
}

//spin for each user
foreach($Id as $userz)
{
$share[$userz] =  ( $Amount[$userz] * $total )/count($Id);
$amount2send[$userz] = $share[$userz] - ($share[$userz]/200); //take 2% for end of game fee ;D
mbc_spend($Address[$userz],$amount2send[$userz],"[BitDouble]: {End-of-Day} Refund!","");

//1 night, we need to logg this
$fh = fopen(--onebaddasshiddenfile--, 'a');
fwrite($fh, "[sending]: ".$amount2send[$userz]."\n");
fwrite($fh, "[Shares]: ".$share[$userz]."\n");
fwrite($fh, "[Account]: ".$Address[$userz]."\n\n");
fclose($fh);
}
This is the exact code I am using to split the shares.
If ANYONE sees anything wrong, please let me know!
ps, I am logging what get's shared for 1 night to make sure it goes smoothly. If not, having this log will allow me to see what went wrong.

Okay, I see.
I'll leave the first night (tonight) alone.
I'll have it setup so from tomorrow it will reset each midnight (clock is still going to be at the top).

[Edit]:
I added some code to the front page to:
1) Refresh every 30 seconds.
2) After it refreshes the first time you will notice ?pot_only is appended to the link. This will change the title to show how big the pot currently is. Saving you time from having to go back to the page and refreshing it every so often.

Hope everyone likes the updates. :D

also now that we have passed midnight, can we just change the countdown timer to the 24 hour clock like it will be everynight?

Time left: 23 hours, 4 minutes or whatever?

Yeah, I'm just monitoring these logs closely right now.
I don't want to see another negative show up.
I want to keep this game as fair as possible.

well we can all see all deposits made both on the page and in the block chain. As long as you don't disappear we can demand the rightful payouts.

We had a bunch of people having fun and getting paid and now people are just putting in .1 and .2 LOL.

I'm not going anywhere.
Even if somehow something happens, I will fix it and over time I'll pay for the mistake.
I've been nervous and shaking for the past two days while coding this.

But, I love to see my script's being used.

Soon, I'll be selling game servers via BTC (still thinking about it). I have all the code setup to accept payments for BTC, just kind of waiting.

Well, as I've said; this will be the only night (well 3 hours ago). [Edit]: This will be the only night that I don't reset the game.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying it!

It will be good to have one place to go, a trusted game, that always starts and ends at the same time, that pays instantly. I think it will be big for you.

I make the following suggestions:

1) Use a different payment address for each game even if you still have to go through current interface, just to make block explorer checks  easier

2) make the UI experience a little better and cleaner, some graphics, maybe a pager for the entry list because it will get long, the ability to see archived games, etc

3) Allow people to post a short message with their bet - make it like 80 characters or something, can use to advertise or to taunt other players or for nothing at all (just an idea, could be fun)

Thanks :D I agree!

1) Use a different payment address for each game even if you still have to go through current interface, just to make block explorer checks  easier
I'm not sure the SCI has that option, but I understand what you are saying. I'll leave a message for them.

2) make the UI experience a little better and cleaner, some graphics, maybe a pager for the entry list because it will get long, the ability to see archived games, etc
I've just been double checking the code for the past few days. I've got a template I'm working on for it, just may take a few hours to implement it.
As for the archived games, this game won't be possible to archive this game (well maybe...actually, that may be possible).
I kind of wanted to add a paging feature to view all the players for the current round and only show like 10 people per page (left side will show the last paid and the person next to get paid).

3) Allow people to post a short message with their bet - make it like 80 characters or something, can use to advertise or to taunt other players or for nothing at all (just an idea, could be fun)
I may do this under a different database as to not interfere with the game.

[Also, I'm sure someone may have a question about payments...]: I just added a new feature to make sure no one can spend anything lower than the current limit (well, I'm only allowing 10 past instead of the 11 that's known with BTC).

Feature request: offer the choice to receive payout to a MyBitcoin account instead of a bitcoin address. I know I can just enter the address from MyBitcoin as the payout address, but since you're using it to process payments, it shouldn't be too hard to integrate payouts.

Looks like your business is thriving!

Wouldn't have thought that - but congrats to that!

Let me just ask one more thing:

Your FAQ says:

>>Requrements?
You will need to have the option to receive payments from the same address you send them<<

How do you do that? How does the sender know the address from which he or she sended you bitcoins?

Thanks. :)

Using your bitcoin program (or website), it should give you an address to accept payments with.

[Edit]: I'm also developing an application to use with this site! (Which is one reason why I wanted to change domains, so I have full control over the Frontpage extention).

(2) but if you create an address in your client it is a receiving address - it is not the sending address (or is it)?

The address in your client represents you. You can receive/accept money with it.
When you make a payment or send money to someone else, they will give you an address to use.

Couldn't have done it without them.

[Another Application Edit/Update]:
If anyone wants to get the application (or see what published version it's at) you can @ http://zombietoday.com/bitdouble_app/
I actually don't expect anyone to download this program, yet alone install it...at least not yet.

[Edit3]:
Just wanted to let everyone know that I had mis-configured the SCI Return URL (for some reason I forgot .com??). Anyways, there were two payments (both for 0.25) from someone and I just wanted to let everyone know that those two payments have been refunded. You may re-submit as the SCI Return URL has been fixed.

[Edit4]:
CronJob for midnight is back in-play! So, from now on the game will restart (with partial refunds split from however much the bank has left).

I have had success in this game.  thanks.
Game looks pretty much dead right now.
Maybe I should have done the midnight reset.  ::)

Oh well, I'm sure it will be popular again.

I'm thinking about adding an account function so you can register and have it setup so all you can have a few more options (I may also raise the fee to 1.5% and the game-over fee to 2.5%, which would allow me to give users a reason to register [so I can offer them a 1% fee and a 2% game-over fee (as the current fee's are set)]).
You would also be allowed to "save an address" to make making a payment faster (for you).
Another option could be the use of "holding payments" until you're ready to get paid (of course this would be optional), but could give me a reason to charge 2% for automatic payments or 1% for manual payout.

Bleh, this is all conspiracy!..or is it?

[Edit]:
Started working on an API feature (mainly for use with my program, but anyone can use it).

Automatic entries?
I guess I could have something like (next game Bank & Entries) tables.
So when the next game starts, it will be like instant payout as soon as the old game end.
Almost like a "would I get automatic money every night @ midnight???"

How's that sound?

I think you are hard on yourself.  As you can see there are a few nice size deposits in the last couple hours.  I can tell you I have been paid out 3 times so far.

134543
134573

I have two more deposits in and will continue to invest in this as long as others keep investing.  Those people who invested the 3, 4.5, & 5 are in for a nice payout today.  I will keep investing after each payout I get.  These games take some commitment.

I'm thinking about setting up an archive. I've thought about it, and was trying to think of a way to display it. May be a few rounds before I get to actually setting up the display, but I'll add the code in to save the Transaction #, Amount, and the round #.

So you sent in the bid after you saw the message?

He saw the message there and then it was gone, its gone right now. Just track down the transaction in block explorer if Nothing needs it. I'm sure he will refund you. He has more to gain keeping the game running then to scam 1 entry.

Yeah it said something like he just found a bug that would make him payout 1% to everyone extra and to give him 10-20 minutes to figure it out. It's been 10... .so ...

The message itself was up for like 1 minute before midnight and then it went away when the clock reset.

Looks like it was more popular than I thought. When the reset happen, it took ~30seconds...(having to send all the payments for the end of the day game).
I'll set it up so if it's in the middle of running the end-of-the-day code, then it won't let anyone enter as something may not show up.

What's your address? I'll go check.

At the end there was only 1.14xxx left if the pot to be split between everyone. I had to split it evenly (which is why I had to disable the instant game-over tonight to correct my math).

There were actually three transaction IDs around 138200, mine and then two others above it that temporarily appeared and then vanished.  All the other transaction IDs for yesterdays game ended around in the 136,000's.

I'm not sure why it isn't showing up, unless your software didn't take it into account because of the 'end of day processing', but one way or another I've 1 less BTC in my account.  And if it were added to yesterday's transactions I'd expect a few bitcents back per your end of day refund policy.  But in this case, my transaction didn't get included in either day, and seems lost somewhere in translation.

I'm not sure what software you're using to track this, but if you examine balances I think it should be fairly clear that a total of three 1BTC transactions came in and then disappeared immediately before the reset but after Midnight.

So, anything I receive here doesn't even filter through my code. My code is more like an extension to the wallet.

I entered twice with that receiving address, btw. The first was the 1btc you carried over from the last round, which was doubled just fine.

Edit: That first one has been the only one at 1btc so far, so there hasn't been any other entries at either 1 or 1.5 since I sent the transaction and this post. So, it should be simple to verify against the transaction link and incoming transactions in your wallet. So, a refund to the address I gave you or to the inputs listed in the transaction would work.

Hope I don't sound too grumpy... it's almost 8am here, and I'm just about to go to bed before keyboardface occurs... :)

Heh, I'd thought about making a bot to do it.... perhaps a CAPTCHA needs to be put in place for submitting your entry, this should prevent any bots from entering.  Plus there are tons of easy to use CAPTCHA services out there.

I have a question:

in total, people paid 83.52 BTC today. Of this, 82.6848 goes to the pot (1% fee).
also, 74,68 BTC have been sent to people (double the amount of all players listed as doubled) (your example shows your fee going back to the pot, which is a bit strange, so I didn't include it).
so the pot should contain 8.0048 BTC, right? The site lists the pot as 5.6084, so where did the other 2.4 go?

Is my math wrong somewhere?

Going to restate what he said with my math:
83.52 put into the pot so far
Take away the 1% fee leaves the pot at 82.6848
Green entries total to 37.34
This means a total payout of 74.68

Total put in - total payout  (should) = current pot
82.6848 - 74.68 =\= 5.6048

So looks like yorick was correct in his math.

So looks like yorick was correct in his math.
The pot shows the 1% taken away, but when I send people the money, I re-calculate based on what they put in.
Code:
$amount2send = ($Amount*2) - ($Amount/100);
mbc_spend($Address,$amount2send,"[BitDouble]: Payout!","");
$Amount = what they paid.

I don't think daily scheduled resets are a good idea. The time period is too short and in the end everyone will just join in with automated bots paying the first second of the new round.

Yeah, there is a captcha when you pay.

I honestly don't care if people use bots to pay.
[Edit]: Now that I thought about it (still waking up), bots probably won't be a good idea. If the game is in the middle of restarting; then the payment may get lost. So, if the bot send the payment while the game is "supposedly offline" looks like I just got a new donation. So, script carefully! ;D

Any news on my 1.5? I got a confirmation on the payment page, but I have no idea how the rest works. Did it get sent to your wallet and was ignored by the script, or is there some function in the SCI that holds incoming payments if they are at the wrong amount?

I'm only out .51 if I include the first double, but I imagine it could be worse for someone who gets the decimal point wrong and sends ten times their intended amount.

It states, that you need to pay exactly what it shows.
I don't want to be rude, but that's honestly your mistake.

I made a spreadsheet calculating your payouts:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag7eUBbWmtR4dERnSkUxdVRXbk5fWlRneFlwTVhaUVE&hl=en_US&authkey=CMm1j4YK

Still looks like some is missing, please let me know if I did any of the math wrong.

I know it's my mistake. And I'm sure it's one that will be repeated by someone else. I'm guessing your reason for the transaction in system to get the bids into the table in the order they were entered rather than by network timestamp, and that's a good idea, but wouldn't it be possible to add a few lines for protection? If sent amount is lower it's ignored, if it's higher the script enters the intended 1btc and keeps the excess .5 as a bonus?

Or simply set something up that returns any invalid payments minus a 5-10% processing fee that goes to you or the pool.

The pot shows how much there is to payback.
The pot calculates 1% already taken out of the equation.
When I send people the money, I am re-calculating their price based on how much they put in instead of relying on the Bank.
The Bank allows me to know how much to split among the players who haven't gotten paid at the end of the game.

Can you create a spreadsheet of your own in the style of mine?  I am just failing to see where the 2.8401 (that I believe) should be in the pot is.

Sorry, I just got back online.
Our web-server ran out of space. I'm not really sure how, but it crashed.
I have backups on my PC and will be restoring (if anything happened) when it gets back up.
Worst case, I have full payment logs in mybitcoin's website which will be used to pay back people (which I will have to do manually) if it stays down.

Yeah, the thing is the downtime started at like 5, which is when it was pretty much dead anyway. The people who want the reset already have money in, and the people who don't have money in aren't going to bid. It'd be a shame to essentially waste a whole round of bids, but if you want to honor the poll I understand.

Hell, after a few more days it may be just faster to do half-day games. (I will take some votes on this; latter).

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag7eUBbWmtR4dERnSkUxdVRXbk5fWlRneFlwTVhaUVE&hl=en_US&authkey=CMm1j4YK

Still looks like some is missing, please let me know if I did any of the math wrong.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean....

36 hours is too long, the game usually last within the first 3-5 hours and then it's just really slow.
I'll start thinking about a good odd time to let everyone play the game.

Title: Re: Double Trouble (Instant/Automatic) w/ Partial Refunds!
Post by: anodyne on June 20, 2011, 09:43:56 PM
I think the active time might get proportionally longer. At the current time, people in the US might throw in a deposit before going to bed, and in Europe before going to work. So, when people get back home or wake up 8-10 hours later there's too little time left of the round for new deposits or reinvestment to have a chance of getting doubled. But, if you have a 36 hour round it will be a whole day left when people get back, so that might keep the round going for a another few hours.

Maybe two parallel 36 hour rounds could be something as well, which would make a new round start twice a day... and it could make things interesting in itself.

Edit: 36 hour rounds would mean every other day would would have two rounds starting, if they start with a 12 hour difference from the beginning. Unless my thinking is wrong again... :)

That was for the suggestion of having two 36 hour rounds with a 12 hour overlap. Round one starts at midnight and ends at noon 36 hours later. Round two starts at noon and ends at midnight day after the next.

I still think the active time in each round would be too long to make sense.

I'm only running one game at a time. If I do anymore, I might as well start selling my script for others to make their own game. :P

In my head that could make things interesting with people trying to reinvest their doubles into the other ongoing round, and with a variance that would add a factor that would be different from shorter single games or two 24 hour games with a 12 hour difference. But maybe that's just me... :)

I mean the next round starting in about 2 hours. But to answer your question, you only get refunded a percentage of the coins left in the pot, based on how much you initially put in.

I think the script needs Mt. Gox active in order to work, so there might be another postponement...

I wish we would have run one more round before Gox went down  :(

Edit: Is the game still on then? According to the web page, it will be restarting in less than an hour.

The game is back up, and will restart at midnight.
As long as https://www.mybitcoin.com is online, we will be good to go.

I updated the pay.php (http://zombietoday.com/bitdouble/pay.php) page.
Quote from: pay.php
Rules: If you submit a payment before the game is over and payment to non-doubled players are giving out, then I will accept that as a donation.
I will not be giving out any more refunds for pre-game payment. Your best bet would be to wait ~15-20 seconds after the last round is over and check this page or the front page.
If there is no message saying "Game is current splitting the round loot!" then you should be fine to play.
By going to the payment page, you are agreeing to these rules.
Seems fair enough?

Makes sense, people should see that if they are hovering on the pay page right before a round starts. Will force them to keep an eye on the home page to make sure the new round has begun.

Yesterday the biggest problem was that people were not paying attention to the main page and trying to sneak in their bid at 12:00:01 when the game was still processing the previous rounds payments. NothinG stated that there would be a clear lag in time between rounds.

Tonight, if you still see yesterday's posts on the main page, then DON'T submit a bid even if it's past 12:00:00, because it will count for yesterday's round.

The game has to process yesterday's rounds first and THEN a new game will start.

Whoever is waiting for their 1 btc to double, you might be better off adding in 0.78 BTC so you can get something back before the next round ends:

1 BTC + 0.78 BTC = 1.78 invested

Will get 2 BTC from the game back before the round ends... You won't double your money but you will at least profit 0.22 BTC :P

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll be in IRC (http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=bitcoin-bitdouble&uio=d4) if anyone wants to chat before the new round starts (and after or w/e).

NothinG, I'm getting this error:

[23:28] == #bitcoin-bitdouble Cannot join channel (+i) - you must be invited
I didn't notice it was on invite only, just turned it off.

[23:30] == Cannot send to channel: #bitcoin-bitdouble

Another error when I try to type to the chat.

I'm not sure why IRC was on Invite Only & Moderated.
But, it's open now.

As long as I'm not reliable for them submitting it to early; then I don't have to worry about refunding anyone.
;D
Not trying to be a dick, but does this mean you have no interest in refunding me (or anyone)?  Because I still haven't received one.
I had refunded everyone that needed to be refunded (when I was fixing the script), then I put up the rules.
Based on what criteria did you allow those people to be refunded but not me?  I put in 2 BTC a couple days ago before it went offline for a while.  Later that round it went offline and I lost my 2 BTC when it was back.  I asked about it and you made it sound like you would refund me.

In the interest in full disclosure I appear to have been double paid double my bet.

0 confirmations so I will wait until they are confirmed before I can assume it's not just a glitch in the bitcoin software.

I list my bet of 1BTC followed by 2 credits of 1.99BTC

If it turns out to be a mistake please let me know of an address I can send it back to.

I feel it's the same as if a clerk at a gas station over changes you.  It is your duty to return the difference.  If anybody else was double payed I hope your conscience gets the best of you and you return it.

If you look around at any other Double Trouble, you don't get ANYTHING back if you don't win.
I don't have to split the pot with everyone at the end, that was my decision.

Dank, your bid was probably entered in before the new round started... And thus it went into the previous round's pot and not the current one. So if you didn't get doubled, you should have at least received a partial refund based on the percentage that NothinG states in the rules when a round ends. Either that, or it went into the void due to a typo or something :\

Partial refund may mean like 0.002 BTC depending on the pot at the time.

Also, did anyone else just get sporadically banned?

Anyways, Dank, maybe you mistyped or something, i lost 1.4 BTC last night to the void. It happens, let it go and move on.  Also, if your bet wasn't doubled then what was left in the pot was split proportionally among everyone that wasn't doubled.  This is called gambling for a reason, you win or you lose.

No, I didn't mistype anything, this is solely NothinG's choice so he can make a profit.  NothinG is a scammer unless he can return my 2 BTC.  My bet wasn't doubled because the website went offline halfway through the round.  It is NothinG's fault for not providing the service advertised, thus I am fully entitled to a refund of my Bitcoins based off of NothinG's criteria stated at the time of the purchase.

could use mibbit or something

NothinG, please do not ignore my post: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=18350.msg262294#msg262294
I'm not ignoring anything, I just refuse to keep playing your game.
There is no way for me to prove that you didn't get refunded (as my history doesn't go back that far).
Playing my game.  You're logic is utterly flawed.

I'm trying to interpret just what the fuck this means.  I already proved that I did not get refunded, and since you cannot prove that I have been then you have no basis to argue.  I have more proof than you, you are just spewing bullshit so you can keep your my BTC.

WARNING TO OTHER USERS: do not use this game expecting a refund or any money in return.

Its called gambling for a reason.  The refund from the pool/losers is unique (or was) to NothinG's game.  The refund in the game you are mentioning seems to be as if you were one of the people who did not get their bet doubled.  You are seizing as a reason, someone's misconception of NothinG's refund rule which was i believe, (i am not going to look for it) promptly refuted by NothinG.  Many of us have been very satisfied with this game both when we win and when we lose.  He spent over an hour trying to find refunds last night when his script went haywire.  Also, if you thought about it logically, how would he refund 98% of a person's bet to every loser when the loser's "bet" was used to pay the winner's doubled out payment.  Also, there have been "bets" of up to 8 BTC, so if he was planning to scam someone, why would he choose 2 BTC over 8 BTC. This common sense would show that he did NOT scam you, you were simply one of the many losing "bets" in this round.  Lastly, his screen shot was not cropped, if you accuse someone of cropping an image without obvious proof, then someone could just as easily say you cropped your refund out of the picture.  I personally do not believe that you did, but that you simply lost.  Sorry for your loss, hopefully you will have hope in one of the many other ventures here on this forum and be able to regain your BTC that way.

I still insist that you put in a refund at the end of one game, not the 30 second limbo at the start of the next. Your transaction log validates this theory, as you put in at 1:51. That means that you either put in well into the game or right before. I will ask this: what time did you put in?

After this, /argument.

dank, I think you just bet at a bad time, got placed at the end of a round, and your deposit was distributed at the beginning of the new round.

If you went to Vegas and lost, do you think they would give you your money back if you asked for it?

You bet on red and the game came out red. Stop complaining and move on. NothinG didn't scam you, you just bet at the end of a round and lost.

The quantity of the people you scammed does not change the fact that you are indeed a scammer, or one who has scammed.  Return my money and I would have no right to call you a scammer, but due to the fact that you lied and decided to purposely steal my BTC you are a perfect example of a scammer.

Dank, you would not have doubled your Bitcoins even if he could find the transaction. You placed the bitcoins an hour and a half after the game started, and at that point its was practically dead. So the biggest refund you would have gotten would be a weighted percentage of the pot left. which would have been like .02 bitcoins. There was no way you could have gotten the 2 bitcoins even if no errors occurred, so get over it.

If say the 10th person were the last person of the day, and they put in 512BTC then they would loose 2% (from fees) and get 509.44 back.
How is that bad?
- NothinG

Now how did you calculate my refund?

Also (bold) you cannot assume I wouldn't double my Bitcoins because the service was unavailable.  I was only 2-3 places away from being doubled before it went offline.

That's outdated, he should edit it out. Here is what the website faq says (check if you want)

"Twice A Day (Noon & Midnight) (see front page for clock), the game is restarted.
Anyone left unpaid will split what's left of the bank over everyone who has been un-paid (this is weighted by how much you entered in to be doubled) - the 2% fee per person [(1% hosting fee) + (1% game restart) = 2% fee] (to their address)!
This is to keep the game fair, and alive."

Think of it this way..

Lets say the first bet in the game is 5BTC, the next 10 bets are all 1BTC.  Those 10 collected BTC are used to pay out the double of bet #1.

At this point the pot is empty.  Let's assume nobody else plays.  There is no money to be refunded.  It has ALL been paid out to double the original bet.

You misunderstood the refund portion of the game.

Edit: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1LWhSDLPYhKThrNhMGXsVu9DEVxPkbHQpB here is your transaction.  If you notice, it hasn't gone anywhere yet.  If it got to his mybitcoin wallet it would almost certainly at least been partially used in a payout by now.  It's floating in space, and it's mybitcoin's fault... NOT NothinG's fault.

My 2 Cents
NothinG isn't a scammer.
I helped test his code.
Bare with him, he is tuning the code.
The post above about quoting only losing 2% of deposit was voided a couple posts past it.
1.5 hours in you lost anyways.
It sux but I was ready to lose 2 because the server took a few seconds to update longer than expected.
Its not just face value gambling, you should understand the risks involved.
Imagine disconnecting from a 10,000 dollar poker hand on full tilt...it happens.
I dont want to argue I just am pretty positive he is not a SCAMMER as you put it.

EDIT* He and the rest of us game operators are doing a lot more work right now than what we make for it.

It was not outdated at the time of the transaction, the twice of day stuff wasn't even brought up until after the transaction.  It does not matter anyways because the website went down AFTER I PAID so I did not receive the service to have 22 hours to potentially be doubled.

Your deposit in to the game is still showing as being untouched by blockexplorer.  Is it possible that it was not at least partially used in a game payout yet?  I guess so... Is it likely?  Not at all.  All game deposits end up in the same mybitcoin wallet.  All payouts are from there as well.  The fact that your 2BTC somehow remains untouched should be enough proof that more likely your transaction never reached its intended destination.

Mybitcoin is most likely at fault.  Your beef is with them.

So a man does business with you and that suddenly makes him a credible, reputable business man?  I have every reason to doubt his trustworthiness, the fact remains that he has my 2 BTC, regardless of how many successful transactions he may have had.  It does not excuse him from scamming someone of a lesser value.

Proof?  Just because a 2BTC bet was recorded does NOT mean it was YOUR 2 BTC bet.  There is no transaction info on that spreadsheet that was compiled by somebody else.

The simple fact is that the 2BTC that YOU sent has not been touched yet.  NothinG uses 1 online wallet for this game.  It is cleared out at the end of each round.  It would not be possible for your transaction to have just sat there this whole time.

mybitcoin lost your money, NothinG did not steal it.

Ok, so I can advertise stuff for sale, accept the payment, then not deliver the goods/service, claim that there is no PROOF of a payment and walk away happy?  That is what NothinG did, and it just seems a little fucked up to me.  The 2 BTC on that list (row #27) is my payment, the order ID matched mine after I ordered it.  I cannot prove this because NothinG destroyed the proof.  So to clarify, my beef is with NothinG and I will not stop these claims until the 1.98 BTC shows up in my wallet.

NothingG is a legit user who created a game where some people come up and some people lose. Its called gambling people, not guaranteed money. GAMBLING IS A RISK. Anyone who thinks otherwise deserves to get their money taken. Read the rules before you bet. NothingG is a noble and respectable member of this bitcoin community

No the analogy is more like:
You had an ad on Craigslist for a puppy, and I sent in $2 for it but it got lost in the mail because the mailman exploded.

Please read the thread.  This has nothing to do with gambling, it is about how everyone was refunded but me and the "legit user" NothinG refuses to even acknowledge the situation let alone fix the situation.

No, it's more like the mailman delivered it but you decided to keep the puppy and the money.

You don't understand, the website went OFFLINE after I put my money in.

The website was online at the time of the transaction.  NothinG received my bitcoins.

It reached NothinG and was added to the list, followed by a 1.3BTC transaction.  My BTC are on row 27 of this spreadsheet:

Do you get the point?  He received the BTC, everything was golden at first, then the website later went down and I never got a refund.  How on earth can I double my BTC (the objective of this game) if the website is down?

I'm stopping the game and will do spreadsheet for this round.

As soon as I pay this round manually, I will convert it to MySQL.

You might want to make it 1.16 BTC. There's a discrepancy between the spreadsheet and the automated system:

It's just probably an error from Nothing. Bigger problem is the pot showed by the website doesn't match the actual pot, so the payout depends on nothing.

From the last game, the database ended up paying out those who it shown didn't get paid.
So, I will refund them based on them already getting paid.
I'm subtracting what they got paid already.
Code:
3 - 0.66054736 = 2.33945264 -PAID-
0.4 - 0.08807298 = 0.31192702 -PAID-

The site was sloppily coded at the time, there's no denying that. The database being screwed up is NOT a bullshit excuse.

The site was using SQLite for the database. SQLite cannot be read & written to at the same time, unlike MySQL. When a rush of people show up, the system may stall.

It doesn't matter, you don't take people's money if you don't have a functioning website.  That is his fault and he is taking it out on the customers.  I guess you think that Mt.Gox isn't responsible for their database being hacked into as well?

MyBitcoin is a third party, although we would be interested in seeing a screenshot of your MyBitcoin transaction log to see if it really matches, which helps verify your story.

And yes, I do blame Mt. Gox for being hacked their security was terrible, using MD5 for password hashes..

What is your point?  I paid for it with my client, it gave me an order ID, I didn't printscreen it because I didn't think this bullshit would happen.  It's not my fault that NothinG deleted it from the website, and I have presented way more proof than he has and he continues to ignore any valid claims supported with evidence.

I have moved the game to my own personal domain and it seems to be working...I've tried several transfers and they all went through smoothly..

The only thing I have left is to implement the game time itself, so it will start and end at specific times...
And the "housekeeping" part where it distributes the rest of the pot to everyone in the game.

Estimated time till we can beta test the new system: June 24 around 2pm EDT

I will be taking a limited number of people for beta/stress testing tomorrow. PM me if you are interested. We will be working with 0.01 BTC for the tests, so if it does screw up, I will have the funds to refund you.

Once we complete beta testing, I will publicly post the new link and most likely a new topic for the new game.

It's the same thing right?

Right now it is the exact same game enhanced with a better database, template, and validation.

One idea someone had was to make it so rather than having the pot be distributed among the remaining players is to make the very LAST person in line inherit the remaining pot once the game ends. I feel like that would be a bit more exciting, and might go with that suggestion. Anyone for or against this idea?

Estimated release will be in approximately 5 hours.

The only "problem" I can see with that is that at the very end of a round, we'll see a ton of people rushing to put in a 0.1 bid over and over again to make sure they are the last one's in, but as long as the database can handle it, then we should be alright.

I've enabled it so the last person in line gets the remainder of the pot, instead of distributing it... Now I just have to wait till the end of the round and see if it works :P

+1 for last entry incentive.  Could push more payouts too if people are trying to recoup pot on expected loss.  Should be interesting.  If you're taking suggestions: make min/max limits close to each other to promote greater player throughput, or at least cap max entries.  Gives players more predictability, which I believe results in more entries.

I am debugging paying out the last person in the game. We're looking at a midnight EDT opening. I just want to make damn sure there are no bugs.

The first round will be limited to 0.1 btc, so if anything does screw up, it won't be that bad lol.

Just need to make sure end-game payouts work, and we will be up and running.
