Title: MSI Radeon™ RX 470 Gaming, 4GB GDDR5, 256-bit
Post by: gondel on March 22, 2017, 09:48:34 AM
Hi guys,
This card costs $227 in my country, do you think its worth buying 6 of these?
This is the best possible price in Bulgaria at the moment.
Anyone has experience with exactly the same card? Any issue with the fans or anything you consider as minus or plus?
There is only one day left of the discount so I have to decide quickly.
Thanks

i like the card.  I had as many as 24 of them.

I don't build five or six card rigs.

I have had mine work in 2,3,4 card rigs.

Hello! I am completely satisfied with these cards, I own 5 of them. My particular model is the RX 470 Gaming X 4GB (note the "X") but probably the non-X will perform similarly. Good construction and probably the best radiator and fans available out there for RX470 cards, from what I have read. I run them OCed with a target Temperature of 68C and only one of my cards will need to spin fans to 50-60%, and even at that speeds they are very quiet (I sleep in the same room as my miners). As Philima, I run rigs of only 3 cards.

Just note that there are at least two versions of the card: une with Hynix memory and other with Samsumg memory. Out of the box, Hynix do 20 MHs and Samsung ones 22 MHs. Tweaking memory and core clocks: 22 Hynix and 24 Samsung (thanks Philipma, I copied your settings from a different thread! :-P). And after flashing the BIOS and tweaking clocks the Hynix performs at 27/28MHs and the Samsung at 25/26 (Linux/Windows) consuming something about 120-130W/card.

I hope I have helped you!

I build RIGs with ONLY these GPUs.  They are the most efficient of all the GPUs and very quiet and low heat and no noise.

They are a good card, go ahead and get them before you lose your discount. With ETH, ETC, and related clones currently returning around $2/GPU per day, the time for mining is now as I am sure this ratio will slowly drop back down to only around $1 or less return per card in a month or so.

I just bought 22 of these at an average price of $160 without any rebates.

I'll be building 3 rigs with 7 GPUs each.

Could you document this build please? Which mobo and cpu will you be using? And what about the msi rx 480's, are they better? And most people like the red ones right? Thanks I ask because I'm sourcing as well for an upcoming build.

Thanks guys!
But, unfortunately when I tried to check out these are JUST out of stock.  :(
I want to start mining asap!
What do you suggest as alternative? Also the msi mobo 81 btc is not available here, what other cheap option you suggest?
THANKS

I shopped around A LOT!!!
I got 12 From Jet with 3 different orders using the 15% off (max $30) and a 2.5% cashback from TopCashBack (https://www.topcashback.com/ref/cashen). Getting 4 at a time I was able to get them for $153.50. The rest I got from amazon. I was able to get 1 for $125. Just keep checking the page.

Good GPUs only thing that I hate about these newer cards is the crappy AMD drivers.

Hello I am about to build a rig with these cards, could you point me at the bios you flashed them with?

does flashing these bios make the card unstable for mining other coins like ZEC?

I am asking because I think ETH POW will end soon or am I mistaken?

This is a good summary but the last statement about performance after all BIOS and clock tweaks is slightly inaccurate.  While it's true that those MSI 470's with Samsung memory have better H/R out of the box, after strap-mod-1500/1750 applied with overclock and undervolting, both Samsung & Hynix memory achieve right at 28 mh/s on ETH.  I have 10 Hynix and 5 Samsung and all are churning right around 28 after strap-mod.  It seems that Samsung is in most newer MSI 470s as all 5 news ones I've got from Amazon or Newegg all had Samsung memory.  Also, note that the strap-mod BIOS is slightly different... Hynix you copy the 1500 timings to all higher timings, while with Samsung, you copy from 1750. Other than that, the steps are identical as Lee from ImineBLocks youtube video shows below:

Thank you!!!! Yep, now I see my problem with my Samsungs is that I was copying the 1500 timings as well, and for that reason my cards were refusing to run beyond 1875 and I was maxing them at 25-26 MHashes. I was going to experiment this weekend precisely copying the 1625 or 1750 timings, but now you have saved my time. Thanks again ;-)

after you change the timing what clock rates do you run I haven't tried it yet but was thinking of it I'm running a little over 20 on stock clocks but if I can mod the timings and get to 27-28 that's a big difference

I find the "sweet spot" at Core: 1100, Memory: 2000

I had many different models of RX470 and have to say MSI Gaming X is not good for ETH mining.

some of them works for Maximum 1850 Clock where as Gigabyte and Sapphire works for 1975 clock.

Recently I bought 8 from MSI and today returning non-opened 4 boxes.

I just got my new 7 x MSI RX 470 4GB Gaming X going.

All 7 were Hynix
Strapped 1500 timing
1180/1950
27.5 on all

My only question is, I changed the clock speeds in the bios. Is there a better way of doing it? what other values should I change? I have 22 cards in total so I hope I have some better cards in there.

No matter what I have done I can't get my Hynix cards to hash over 27.3MH but my Samsungs all do 29.5-29.7MH.
Hynix cards with 1500 Straps crash at mem clocks over 1875 and using the 1625 Strap They only do the 27.3MH.

UPDATE: Used nerdralph's strapmod.py and finally got my Hynix cards to 28.2MH but my samsungs using that tool are now up-to 31-31.5MH
