Title: Proposal to keep the forum clean of BU/SW/Fork/Split/... topics
Post by: Coding Enthusiast on March 23, 2017, 06:40:54 AM
Everywhere you look these days you can see a topic talking about these subjects and majority of them are pointless and throwaway accounts either spamming or spreading FUD. And in short is just crowding up the place.

I propose
    1. Locking/trashing all of them
    2. Making one or a couple new ones* to gather all the discussions in one place and prevent crowding up the place!
    3. Trash any new topic after this and redirect them to the existing topics.

* It can be one in main board (board 1) or better yet in Development board (6) talking about "The fork", "How", "When", "What happens if", "What should I do",... to the death.
Another one in speculation board (board 57) and the subject be "Price in case of fork" or whatever.

Please vote.

No.

No.

Yes.

There haven't been that many *abusers* in said threads as those threads usually require *some* brainpower to remain on-topic with a decent post. I have observed an annoying amount of duplicate threads started by randoms, as you've mentioned. The staff isn't exactly the swiftest around here; let's see if anything will get done.

Please not that some of these subjects are misleading, the content of either OP or other comments are the same as each other. And I am not suggesting all of these are useless, but many are duplicate.

I don't think they should be trashed, deleted or otherwise damaged. After all they help the board finances.
I suggest that they are moved onto a new board. This could be retained for reference, and used when the next attempt to control Bitcoin appears after the fork has gone.

You could call it the trivia board from the latin "tri viae" - where three roads meet. :)

Not another board, just for the hard fork update. This topic is the flavour of the season, just like the ETF was last month.
Given some time, the community will just move on.

I understand your concerns that there are a lot of threads about a potential HF. There are a lot of topics about this because this is something that is very important to the future of Bitcoin (regardless of your opinions on the topic). There is a lot of information that many people need to take into consideration when formulating an opinion on the topic.

I have even seen some threads develop sub conversations that make the topic somewhat difficult to follow.

Open discussion about the possibility of a HF is important to get consensus on the appropriate course of action, and again this is regardless of your position on the topic.

Ideally, at one point in the next couple of months, the community and major economic companies will be able to reach some kind of consensus on how to get Bitcoin to scale and some change to Bitcoin will be made. The devs can state their opinion and advise the the community and economy however at the end of the day it is up to the community and economy to reach consensus and if the opinion of the community and economy differs from the devs then what the community and economy wants should prevail.

Ideally, this kind of issue should not come up frequently and once this has been solved, the number of these kinds of threads should go down.

Half the population has below average IQ.   :)

You need to expect this on a public forum.

Yeah, there are too many topics about BU/SW/Fork and etc, but it's not strange to see it, because Quickselle said, it may have big influence to the Bitcoin future.and people have many questions about it. But these topics already become into heaven for sig spammers. And I don't think that staff can do much in this situation, because people will remain to create topics aboutvthese subjects. I think it would be best to lock these topics before it become spam megathreads with 50 pages.
I also remember what was happening in last summer when majority topics on forum was about Bitcoin halving.

As much as they may clog up the forum, I don't like the idea of limiting the allowed topics. Once we ban one topic what's next?

We really need specific sub-board only to talk about this topic since majority of topics at "Bitcoin Discussion" are only "BU/SW/Fork/Split/... topics" and newbie/question thread.

A sub-board for a topic which could die down in the next couple of months? That would be unnecessary in my opinion.
This will die down if you give it time.

Agreed with all of what Lauda said.  What OP suggests amounts to censorship, and I'm not for that.  There are indeed tons of topics about the BU thing, but if you don't want to read them, don't read them.  There's no need to stifle this issue via moderation.
