Title: Will this work? (Trying to add a 4th card to asrock 970 ex4 rig) Post by: superdork on April 24, 2013, 12:12:48 AM I would like to add a 4th card to my rig, a 7970...
Currently rig: Graphics Cards Gigabyte HD7950 3Gb GD5 (X3) Processor AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-core 260 Hard Drive WD Blue 500 gb Motherboard Asrock 970 Extreme4 $99 Power Corsair 1000W ZX Series GLD Ram Kingston 8gb (2x4) Case Coolmast HAF XM MIDTWR ATX CASE I have 2 PCI x1 slots on the 970, so I can run the 7970 into one of those with a riser card extender... but How do I power the 7970? all of my PCIE slots on the PSU are taken.... what are my options? A) Daisy Chain or get a splitter of some sort ** B) Get a separate power source? C) Nope I'm fucked and I'd need to get a new PSU D) Other ________ A)** something like this but longer: will this be problematic when mining? EDIT: It doesn't need to be longer because I can just plug cables into the end to extend it, right? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=904988&is=REG&Q=&A=details Title: Re: Will this work? (I actually think I can...) I'm running a 4x5830 Radeon setup (each of which takes 2x6 pin PCIe power connectors) off a Corsair 850 Watt PSU. The PSU only provides four 6-pin PCIe power connectors; however, it does have a lot more 4-pin Molex power connectors, which I've plugged four of the Molex-to-PCIe adapters that came with the videocards into. No issues there. Note that these aren't splitters, they're just adapters, and they come with the cards, so presumably they're safe to use (otherwise Sapphire wouldn't ship 'em?). |
