Title: When LTC Segwit will trigger?
Post by: loreRex on April 16, 2017, 01:48:06 PM
Ok, taking as working hypothesis that the 75% will be sustained until the end of the period (see http://litecoinblockhalf.com/segwit.php (http://litecoinblockhalf.com/segwit.php) for the current situation), can someone give a (precise) estimate of how much TIME is required for Segwit to be activated ?
How many days?

According to https://bitinfocharts.com/litecoin/ there were 568 blocks mined in the past 24hours.

So, in theory if ALL pool support segwit (which is impossible) it'd take 11 days.

But it depends on the no. of pools applying segwit through.

i don't know anymore but are you sure? this conversation that i had with this guy say without doubt that it should be already activated

-snip-
that site say that only 258 block are left until period end, litecoin have 576 block per day, this make us need only for half a day for this activation to happen, the two weesk have almost passed already, or that is a bad indicator?

that is not how it works. that site should really make this clear with a little footnote or something so that people can easily understand it.

the activation period is the period between two difficulty adjustment times and that happens every 8064 block (i believe it takes 2 weeks). and hash rate supporting the proposal has to reach above 75% before the adjustment (which already have ) and then it has to stay there for the whole next period.

in short this period is finished in 10 hours, 32 minutes and in 14 days SegWit will be activated if nothing changes!

As long as there is an hashrate signaling SegWit for more than 75% of the total hashrate, it needs two weeks to get activated.

At most it will take two weeks. But if they can get the number of segwit blocks considerably higher than 75%, then they'll hit the target sooner.

It seems to be varying between 75% and 81% - so I'm guessing it will take about ten days.

i think i read on r/litecoin they're predicting another two weeks after the successful signaling is finished. that's gonna allow wallets, pools and others to upgrade.

ProHashing has started signaling for Segwit!

this is wrong (since you posted this yesterday).
to my knowledge the activation period for litecoin is 14 days, which is the period in which the difficulty adjusts itself, similar to bitcoin.
and within this period the hashrate supporting SegWit needs to stay above the threshold which is 75%.

now this threshold was crossed in the previous activation period and in the current one (1 more day remaining) the hashrate is above 80% so it should activate in the next day.

Even Antpool, has shifted to signaling Segwit!

Moreover they switched from approx 100 GH/s to 561.87 GH/s!

i believe i gave some wrong information in there too. sorry about that.
the timing and numbers are correct but i did a little bit more research and i think it has nothing to do with difficulty on litecoin. because according to litecoin.info/difficulty the difficulty changes every 2016 blocks (similar to bitcoin)

the activation period is indeed 8064 blocks and it takes about 14 days to mine that many blocks on litecoin.
according to this site: http://litecoinblockhalf.com/segwit.php
there are 6499 blocks remaining from the current period and with block time around 2.4 min that makes it about 10 more days
now according to segwit.co/ltc this was period 6 and SegWit is locked in and will activate during the next period.

that is the confusing part about this site. it doesn't show how much more is remaining till the end of activation period.
instead it is showing 0 days 18 hours,... which is until next Difficulty retarget and as i said it has nothing to do with activation period.
