Title: gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 running 6 cards or 4 cards?
Post by: mrkubanftw on April 25, 2013, 08:57:48 PM
Hey guys a I have a nice Gigabyte gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 with an AMD Fx-8350 and 16Gb of dual channel XMP memory. I am trying to get a hold of a few nice radeon cards, currently im picking up a HD6870.

Question one, iv seen what theoretical hash rates are but what are some real numbers you guys have mined with?

Second has anyone ran 4 cards in this board? How about 6? Obviously the more cards i can stick in one machine the less machine i will need to run.

Any input appreciated guys!

p.s. I ordered a 50gh/s from butterfly labs a short while ago. Assuming I ever get it... I will ultimately move to litecoin or namecoin with this rig once asic destroys bitcoin any forseeable issues with that? I know next to nothing about litecoin or namecoin except one thing i read that asic cannot process them which makes them a last hope for gpu i guess.

I've got one and can only get 4 cards to work.  I get ~1.8 MH/s mining litecoin, your mileage may vary.
All cards are 6950s (different brands), 3 are flashed, all are overclocked in cgminer which also underclocks if they get too hot. Stock voltage.

I tried a 5th card, it booted but I couldn't get it to mine.

wow thanks for the info man! Are you running risers or right into the board? Know anything about the risers people mention?

Hopefully the link works, I use the x16 to x1 risers and a x16 to x16 riser for the main card that I plug the monitor into.

They work fine for mining, but you won't be able to play games.
