Post by: 18RATTT on April 29, 2013, 03:36:10 AM

According to this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163306.0 an 850W Gold or Platinum is sufficient.

the 80 plus rating has no effect on how much power the PSU delivers to the GPUs.

You would probably be fine with a 750W depending on your overclocks, if you run hard you might look into an 850W.

thanks for the input neil and bcpokey.
however, i was wondering if someone might know how many Watts does a radeon 7950 will need usually??
i heard one card need 300W. but i need some double confirmation.

One card definitely doesn't need 300W, that's just ridiculous. How much it WILL use depends on whether you're mining bitcoins, litecoins, or whatever. How much you overclock the sucker, whether you have a good group of asics (power leakage), etc.

On average plan for that they will likely consume 200W +- 25W.

4x 7950 @ 1150/1400 @ 1,25 V mining LTC = 1050-1100 W at the wall.

I am running (3) 7950's @1050/1450 @ 1.125 V on a 750w Rosewill 80plus Gold and no problems so far, I am aware of the risks of pushing the limits of a PSU. I am getting 608kh from each card, cgminer 3.1.0, -I 20 -w 256 -v 1 --thread-concurrency 21712
This has been a very stable 1.8Mh system. Open air system, small house fans on cards, 71c temps.

Are those Gigabyte 7950s?

ha, that's good to know.

Now I can switch my 3*7950s to the HX850 and leave the 1000w for 3*7970s

BTW, is Antec 1000 Platinum enough to run 3*7970? (not GHz edition)

A good 850 will do it, I get 545w from two Sapphire Vapor-X's.
