Title: At what price will you sell your BTC, and what will you buy?
Post by: favours on May 10, 2017, 03:37:46 PM
10k? 100k?

Personally, I'll cash out 10% at 5k and 10% at 10k and leave the rest to ride.

Everyone has a magic number  ;D Most important is not to regret this decision and make a good use of the profit made. I personally think that 10k is an excellent number, and with 25k I would sell everything without second thoughts, and use the money to make other investments.

I don't plan to ever sell. As the old adage goes by the time your target is reached the chances are there'll be no need to swap it for another currency any more.

These people planning on getting rid at 2k or 3k strike me as nuts. The world surrounding Bitcoin is still pretty messy - no scaling, usual exchange crap, retailers dropping it, ever higher fees, yet it's still on the rise.

10k seems to be the most regular magic figure. Again, unless you have several hundred that's not going to change your life in many parts of the world and it'll still be in the warming up stage.

I honestly don't know at what price I'm going to sell the majority of my stash. I presume I will splash out on property when the time comes though, you could go wrong with bricks & mortar.

I haven't realy thought about it but I think I would like to,wait until the price reaches at least 3000$, if it ever will. And I hop by then I will collect much more coins that I have know. I don't know what I would buy, depends what I will need or want in that time, if it ever come. Let's hope for the best.

When I say long term, it's literally holding bitcoin for long period of time until to it's summit. But how can I determined that it's already on it's peak? Until somehow I can't managed thatthing really happens.

For buying, I can consider now myself to those having a difficulty to deal with the current buying price so my hold coins are the only one that been able to bought at cheaper rates if we compare to the price today. But it doesn't mean it will stop me from buying coins even with this kind of price.

And besides, I don't have anything to do with my bitcoin for years now so spending or withdrawing it is not yet on my mind. I have my fiat salary that used to my spendings.

Why would you sell your BTC?

That's like asking at what price you would sell your U.S. dollars? Or what price you would sell your Euros?

Bitcoin is money.

Just continue to acquire bitcoin, and spend your bitcoin to buy what you want.  Just like you would with any other money. Try to spend less than you acquire so you can build up some savings.  Savings will be useful for emergencies, life changes (marriage, children, etc), larger purchases, luxuries, retirement, etc.

If you have any other currencies (Dollars, Euros, Yen, Pecos, etc), you may want to consider selling them before they lose too much more value.  Why would you ever want to hold any more of that crap than you have to?

There will never be a summit. If we assume it survives then mining will end and the deflation will properly kick in. If its value is continued to be measured in fiat then that value will continue to rise long term. No doubt there'll be peaks in between but it'll be glacial compared to now.

To be honest, I have already sold a big part of my bitcoins.
It is because that bitcoin price has reached a very high level, currently it is somewhere between 1750-1780 USD according to Bitstamp.
I have decided to liquidate this cryptocurrency at 1650 level, which has made me really satisfied, I still have enough bitcoins to be happy out of further price rise.
I advice the same strategy for everyone who is currently having some bitcoins, just sell some part of them on this price to invest the returns into some different things, or even to make your life more successful: spend it for yourself because why not?

That is only my opinion, but I expect BTC to rise further: thats why Im still secure with a decent amount of BTC for holding purposes.

I will never cashout the biggest part of my Bitcoin money, only little parts that won't affect my profit on long term. The potential is too big and I don't want to regret about it in some years. I want to make big profit together with everyone who believes Bitcoin power. $10.000 would be a nice amount, but maybe it can become better, impossible to predict now, only time will tell.

I have never thought about that.
I dont think much when I sell because i just do it when it is greatly needed.
Now that the price is crawling up everyday it is even getting harder to sell it even if I needed it.
Good thing i didnt.
I just buy funds for my loading service and some altcoins. Thats it.

I didnt know what will actual price will be but as like trading you need to buy it when it is low and when it is high we will gonna sell it higher. We cannot predict the price of bitcoin due to its high demand of the people and due to the investment of the investors in the bitcoin market. It is all connected to it.

It is because that bitcoin price has reached a very high level, currently it is somewhere between 1750-1780 USD according to Bitstamp.
- snip -

"Bitcoin" is an arbitrary unit.  It is also a very misleading arbitrary unit, because it doesn't sound like very much, but it is actually a very large quantity.

Lets look at another arbitrary unit.  A "Rock" is a slang term for a quantity of U.S. dollars.  If I say I have "1 Rock"  it doesn't sound like very much.  If I tell you that I just traded €1750 for a "Rock" it sounds like a "Rock" is at a very high level.  In reality, a "Rock" is $1,000,000.  If you got a "Rock" for €1750 it would be a VERY GOOD DEAL!  Knowing that, would you say "To be honest, I have already sold a big part of my Rocks. It is because that Rock price has reached a very high level, currently it is somewhere between 1750-1780 USD?"  Or would you wait until you could get €1000000 for the Rock.

One million dollars (a rock) can be divided into smaller parts.

For example, "1 Rock" = "1000 Grand".  Another example is that "1 Grand" = "1000 dollars".

Notice this works with "Bitcoin" as well.  Think of "1 Bitcoin" as slang.

For example, "1 Bitcoin" = "1000 milli-bitcoin (mBTC)".  Another example is that "1 mBTC" = "1000 micro-bitcoin (μBTC)".

So you can see that "Bitcoin" is still VERY CHEAP.  At 1750, you can buy 571.43 μBTC for $1

Perhaps someday in the future (when bitcoin finally does reach a very high level), you might be able to buy 1 μBTC for $1.  That means that bitcoins might sill increase 571 times more than today.

I am waiting for 10k and I don't give a shit out of my investment even if bitcoin crashed to 200. Bitcoin prices are always unpredictable but there is always one thing sure about bitcoin is it will rise higher than its previous mark. I remember the last time I saw its price peak was at 1000$ during the time of mtgox and now after so many years it did crossed even further with a new peak better than previous one.

I am planning for to hold my bitcoin for longer time and from now we are seeing that many things are available with bitcoin so I think in the future we will not need to convert our bitcoin to fiat and we will use them directly to buy things for us so we will save the fees from paying in exchanges.

It all depends upon my profit level,if i am in profit i would sell and wait for a correction to re enter the coin or i would purchase any other promising coin and covert in to bitcoin and these are the ways i usually do trading as i am not interested to store anything for the long run,if you can play smart you can always roll things . :)

Actually, bitcoin holders should exchange 10%-20% of their bitcoins and hold what is left and if there is a bitcoin dip take that opportunity to buy bitcoins then repeat from the start if it started to rise again. This is what people must practice instead of getting confused whether sell or hold more.

Then you must be willing to wait a little longer. The price may hit $1800 this month but $2000 is still a little far away from the current price right now. And we still don't know when will be the dump happening, so what if it didn't reach the $2000 and dump to $1200, will you still buy?

to all those who are giving number targets, i suggest you to start reading the bitcoin white paper and try to finally figure out what bitcoin is because from the looks of it none of you know what bitcoin is.

a couple of days ago i made a comment about places you can spend bitcoin and there are about a million different products you can buy from nearly as many merchants these days. i probably make it into a topic later.

I'm kind of close to Danny's answer. I'm going to spend my coins on what I need like any other kind of money. I have multiple loans out (vacation house in Tahoe, cars, rental property) and if Bitcoin ever gets to the point where I can pay all those loans off I'll sell. The interest on those loans are taking my cash away every month. I can easily pay the yearly strokes on my properties and live on rental income and retirement if I don't have the interest payments. The price is getting very close for me now. It's so close, in fact, I've already talked to my CPA about the best way to settle up with the government when I sell.

I can basically sell whenever I want to, because I followed a strategy where I regained the amount I initially invested, so I am now risk free. I can only lose profits now. I will continue buying low and selling high, to increase my coin totals and also to have fiat available when the price is low to buy some more coins.

I will also keep a percentage of the fiat to buy other commodities, because I do not want all my eggs in one bag. ^smile^

This is after all still a experiment that may or may not fail on us.

Sell whenever you reach your profit goals and can buy back at a lower price or wait till other people's target price are not reached and they are forced to sell at a loss when their patience runs out or when fear and uncertainty strikes.  ;D
Sorry but this is a zero sum game, my profits are tied to other peoples losses vice versa. And regardless of price you gotta be stupid if you plan to dump 100% of your deflationary currency to an inflationary one at some target price, might as well gamble at a casino if that is your plan anyway.

5k can be reached until or after the next halving! You don't havt to wait decades!
When the scaling issue is fixed, and it will sooner or later, and I expect we will do so without harming Bitcoin, then just god knows how the market will react. 10k is another story. Maybe in 2024 after this halving we will see those kind of price.
On the other hand with Bitcoin you never know what's going to happen tomorrow. Another FUD attempt, another hack etc which could also decrease the price.

Keeping long-term bitcoin can be profitable, however, it takes too long to get that profit, instead of waiting for a long time, we should make short-term and short-term deals. The profits are fast, and I believe we do not need to regret what we do.

Do you think it is too high compared to the present time? Surprisingly, with your intentions, even though the bitcoin rises during this time, however, it can not reach $ 2,500, because if that happens, inflation will destroy the market. And the governments who accept bitcoin will not let it happen.

If bitcoin will have a hard dump and reach at least 1000 USD per bitcoin then i will buy at least 10 bitcoins and keep the for long term ;D.

If the price of bitcoin will ever reach at $2,000 I'm not going to sell it. I'm going to keep on holding it so that I can see a good amount. Because with this type of movement for the price of bitcoin, still there's going to be another chance for the price of bitcoin to keep on moving. I don't have plan right now on selling.

Too unrealistic price to consider because that price wont be achievable on a short period of time and it does really require many years before achieving that price point.maybe on 2 or 3k but for 10k or 100k i think we should not really bother at all to think off but still we are on full control of our money on when we gonna do sell off our bitcoin as long we are on profits it would be just fine.

I think you are joking, as an affirmation, I am sure the bitcoin never reached that value, the market will collapse before the bitcoin so high. Inflation and the global economic crisis will occur. Although virtual currency continues to grow, it can never replace cash, what you say is unreasonable.

If someone see the bitcoin as asset or commodity then I understand that there is the reason to sell it so as convert it to fiat. On the other side, if he see it as currency, as really is, there are many ways somebody can spend it to buy things he likes and there is no reason to convert it to any worthless inflationary paper money.

You are not the only one not to buy bitcoin, me and lots of other people here do not buy bitcoin. There is too much danger if we buy bitcoin at the present time. Bitcoin is at its highest price in history, and it is constantly increasing, which is very easy to lead to inflation. Instead of buying bitcoin, I would sell it at the current price, and I am pleased with this decision.

To reach 3000USD of course you need a lot of patience. Now bitcoin prices are always increasing but no one can guarantee that bitcoin prices can reach 3000USD. Now the bitcoin price is in the 1800USD range. It took another miracle to reach that target.

I really dont have a particular price at which I sell, as most times I have taken the decision to sell, its always based on the prevailing factor of my immediate need. Sometimes, it might be that be that there is an immediate need for cash, other times it might be the need to just have the funds in liquid form then I sell but before that, I tried to ask myself can I forgive myself should this be a wrong decision. But now, any I am able to get, I am waiting to sell at a so high price like say $3000 to buy a car.

Never sell *all* your bitcoins.
If you want to cash out, sell a percent of your coins progressively as the price rises, so they decrease, but never reach 0.

10
5

I don't know at which price I would sell ALL my bitcoins, probably there are no such price. I would keep part of bitcoins for future perspective. I would sell all my bitcoins if there would be very important reason such as disaster, hug debts, war and etc. And I don't think it would be very imprtant how much bitcoin costs at the moment in such case.

10k? 100k?

Personally, I'll cash out 10% at 5k and 10% at 10k and leave the rest to ride.

buy it when the price is low then sell it with higher price, you must observe the price of bitcoin in order for you to but it. just take a keen observing and be patient enough to wait until the price goes down at that moment you will be able to buy it at a low price then try to stored it for months and if you want for a year and then sell it.

Yeah just do buy and sell for bitcoin to be able to make profits from your holdings and it is possible to make a lot of profits there rather than long term because you can take advantage of the price volatility and you can maximize the possible profits because of that.

I will sell some when I see that BTC/USD is starting to turn bearish. Making newer lows instead of newer highs, pretty much opposite of what is going on now.

I'll do the same thing with you maybe 10-20% at 5k and if I can see that there will be potential increase up to 10k then I'll sell the same percentage. I'm not that holding a lot but as long as I have some holding that is what really matters. Maybe I won't buy anymore as I consider the price is really too high.

The price of the bitcoin make me happy, I bought 3 btc about 4 months ago when the price reached $920, certainly if I sell now I get profit more than $2500. But I'm not going to sell the bitcoin, precisely I would buy again, bitcoin will I sell when it has reach $2000.

You know, I am not so sure what I would like to purchase with Fiat after I cash out my Bitcoin. I just would like to see a fat stack of cash just sitting in-front of me and have that feeling of being able to spend that money on anything that I want.

Since Bitcoin is going up in price I don't really have to worry so much about losing Fiat. The price point that I would cash some Bitcoins out at would be about a million dollars.

Good thing that you decided not sell those because the price is possible to get higher so you need to be patient and wait for some more increase and just keep on reading news because there's a lot of good news to read.

I don't have an ideal amount right now on when I'm going to sell or what is the price floor for me to sell.

I'm expecting more on the price of bitcoin maybe I'll sell when it reaches to $10k or even higher.

And with buying, I don't have buying power anymore.

If all people will set goals and plan for the bitcoin they will know the best time when to buy or sell it. I alread sell partial of my bitcoin and used it as load. I used it also to my trading for capital and investments to earn more. I just hold a part of my bitcoin so i will not regret if the price of bitcoin reaches to its peak or pump like never before. We all know that development and changes will never stop so do not rush on using bitcoin you can used but make sure you saved a part of it or used it on investment to earn more for the future of bitcoin.

I made a big mistake when I sold most of my bitcoins at $1300, expecting a strong correction below $900 to buy more. But now I have made the decision not to get rid of a single satoshi even if the price drops to $1 again.

I was hoping for around $2000. I am currently selling 1 BTC in localbitcoins for market price just because I want to diversify my investment.

My other ~4 bitcoin I want to try and build up and hopefully by the time Bitcoin hits $10k, I will have 21 BTC.

I'm definitely going to hold bitcoin for the long term but going to hedge against fluctuations as well. It's unwise to hold just a single asset as you don't know where bitcoin is going in the future - nobody knows. People say it'll always go up up and i agree with them although we have to prepare for the worst.

For me, $1,500 is the par price for bitcoin, i'd sell at $2,000-3,000, buy at $1,000.

$3,000 value would already give enough profit for us as we enter this year with less that $1,000 if I still remember it right, now that the price is pumping it really gives us the hope that in time we will see that level of increase. For me, I have no plan of selling yet because I have mind for long term and I'm wiling to wait more than one year.

That should be the mind set of every investors. I think, it would hit more than $3 000 as we can see how huge countries and investors are taking it seriously which would certainly help a lot in increasing its value. Currently, holdimg it is the best thing to do as we can see how huge the foundation bitcoin has.

even if it drop again below 1000$, we should not panic sell, instead it is a good strategy to buy more.. we should always put in our minds that the key in this kind of community is to buy and HOLD. particularly in bitcoin, we all know that this will be at its highest price in the next months or years. so judt hold!

Buy when people are panicking, sell it when the market becomes uber bullish.
At this point in time though until it has hit the market indicator price of $2K HODL, then just wait a while and see what happens if it rallies more or gets stuck in a dip.

Wow that is a great target and i think you are holding a good amount of bitcoin and if bitcoin will reach at least 3000 USD/bitcoin then you can sell some of your bitcoins and not all because there is still possibility for bitcoin to get a higher price in the future so patience is a must and just take your capital from your investment and keep the rest for another long term.

well the plan is that i will hold it until the price reaches until 2000 dollars since the risk falling is high because of issues in bitcoin today and since i have been holding my bitcoins for 2 years, i think it's time to let it go and invest it in ethereum and litecoin since the coins has potential to replace bitcoin. i think investing in those coins will beneficial to me but my plan will change or not who knows.

well it would be great if you can already sell it at $10000 or even $100,000 but in reality it would took you a longer wait which will probably happen after several years ;D if I were able to choose I would sell my bitcoin as soon as the price has reached the amount that meets my satisfaction just like at this moment, once the price has reached $2000 then it would be a good time to sell .

Good idea. Holding your bitcoin even if it is just small amount is good. You shouldn't sell your bitcoin if its price is low, you should sell it if its price is big enough like 3000 usd. It might your bitcoin become doubled or tripled if you hold it until its value continue to rise.

It seems notice the price of the Bitcoin will go forward more like $2000 cap in coming future, I think it will make quickly after seeing the marketplace situation. And it's right decision to hold it and only release it while its growing more or personal need.

For reaching an all-time high I would say around 2.5k . For me its the right value to invest to another while spending some.
I hope after two or three years people will think of that there was a time when the Bitcoin used to be trade at a very cheap price of 2.5 K. I guess the Bitcoin have a lot more potential to increase its price than that of the current price. I am not spending any of my BTC at the moment because I am waiting for the time it reaches $3000. I am collecting as more as I can at the moment. I hope I am right with my decision.

Bitcoin can rise and reach $ 2000, however, it will not happen at the moment, it needs some time to warm up the market again. The market has cooled down a lot when bitcoin is too high. That time may not be long, but it certainly will not happen next month.

Yes a keen observer of the market can easily make good profit with purchasing in low prices and selling it at a higher price. It is good for any trader to observe the market with all the possible aspects to cover to make the investment safe. But keep in mind not every time your assumptions and prediction can go accordingly. You don’t have to be disappointed and look for the better time to come.

yes you're right , if you doesnt need your money , you may store it as long as you can, bitcoin increases daily, we cannot predict it. we dont know, maybe at the end of the year it will be $2000 and it is very good, while you storing it, it will increase day by day , bitcoin is a very good investment also, bitcoin itself is good. but you may sell it when the bitcoin is high, and buy it when the value is a bit low.

I don't have such plan, if I still have cash in my account to cover my daily expenses than it's enough, no need to sell my precious bitcoin for cheap price instead of saving it for long term as long as I can hold. With current price $2700, if I sell 0.5BTC and get $1350, it should be enough for 8-10 months without sell bitcoin anymore. I figured out that is a bad decision due to bitcoin price always increases over time, I prefer to sell a little bit (maybe BTC0.04) in every chance and save the rest for higher price when I need to.

Much like @gentlemand and some others here. I do not have any plan to sell my Bitcoin at all. Bitcoin has enabled me to start my own online business without any initial (fiat) investment. In other words, Bitcoin is the technology that create my future. Not going to write much about that in this post as I have wrote about my story with Bitcoin in the past before. I will however be using my Bitcoin to make purchase online and hopefully offline (physical stores I mean - since we still need internet to enable the transaction) in the future. :).
