Title: Stolen BTC?
Post by: Gazz7483 on May 17, 2017, 04:17:18 PM
Hi guys,

I bought some BTC back in late 2013 that I stored in parts over 4 Armory wallets.  I've today restored all 4 from the paper backups but there's no BTC in any of them.  There doesn't appear to be any transaction history to, or from the wallets.  Is there a way I can access the transaction history for each wallet, as I fear the BTC may have been stolen somehow.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Don't panic, your bitcoins have probably not been stolen!  In that case you would see the transaction stealing the coins in the wallet (it would get it from the blockchain).

By far the most likely explanation is that Armory or the underlying Bitcoin Core software has not fully synchronized with the Bitcoin network.  That entails downloading around 100GB of bitcoin transactions, and verifying all of them.  With a fast internet it takes a week or so.  When Armory is running, it displays the number of blocks it sees in the lower right corner.  Right now it should say 466882.  If the number is lower, or it says "Offline" then your wallet is not synchronized.

Thanks so much for your reply, was really getting concerned about it!  So to be clear, there's no way I'll regain access to the BTC without downloading the entire ledger?

You can extract the private keys and import them into a different wallet at any point in time.

Thanks for your help guys, my btc have reappeared now somehow.  Armory is currently approximately 140,000 blocks behind the times though so some catching up to do!
