I'm curious, I know there are a lot of traders on this forum.

But

1. How many of you folks are investing in and holding altcoins?

and

2. Which ones are they?

Aragon, Stratis, Mobilego, Gamecredits, Ethereum, Iconomi

I believe a lot of people will get hurt once the golden era for alt investment is over, but there will be a large number of alts that beat the trend and thrive to new heights.

As for how many of us are holding alts? I don't know the answer I only know that the number is increasing every day, see Poloniex's statement on the increase in traffic they have received over the last few months.

xrp , eth , xem and stratis are those coins which really showing some good movements having its own target audience and created to support some big
company i think by holding those coins and look for longer term will help you to gain much bigger profits in return.

mainstream has not even really heard much about btc .... alts even less.

i just ended my investment with ripple and got a huge profit. now all of that profit has gone into Litecoin. with their roadmap which was published for 2017 this coin is looking more than good. we are in for a huge rise.

and most importantly in the past few days tha we wee stable at a fixed price, there was always a big buy volume and it is showing all signs of accumulation phase happening.

i'm holding netko, rain, spreadcoin, nexus and sweepstakecoin, i like to hold new coin, they are very good for pump and dump, but i did not invest in these coins, i mined them and i'm waiting for the pump, best strategy for me and always work good

I'm trading some altcoins such as KMD, ETH, EDG. These altcoins  have some good news about the platform .
They are on uptrend and it will be possible to rise up highly in next days.

Golem, Stratis, Stellar and join the MobileGo ICO, Guppy, Edgeless, I will hold all of them until end of this years, The price will up especially MobileGo.

wow quite a high risk bunch there.

I hope you have mixed in some real pow distributed crypto with historical and proven staying power into your portfolio. Most of those look like ICO coins and you never know who owns the majority of those and when they decide to manipulate the market for their own specific gains.

For sure there will be a shake-out, bubble-bursting at some point. That's why I think it's all about the company rather than the hype.

 Xem and Golem.  Golem impressed me with its real world application of 3d rendering using popular free real world modelers people actually use. It will destroy render farms, but coudl also obsolete all crypto mining with its power, oops.

I am holding 0,05 btc in XRB (mrai) and 10 LTC + some other's altcoin for a total of 0,63 btc more or less.
Sometimes I am feeling like an alt coin  collector :D

I mostly hodl and trade ETC, STR, XMR, XRP, DASH, DOGE, and LTC. I stick with mostly the main ones because I think they are less risky.

XRP, LTC, and WAVES. From those three, I'd really look into WAVES. Quite low from the retraction, and lots of new features coming out in the coming months. What interests me most is the decentralized exchange that should have a new GUI in the next month or two.

I stick mostly to Litecoin and Ethereum as far as alt blockchains, they are both accessible and widespread. Ethereum gives you access to tokens and a nifty programming language. I love the idea of the global decentralized & deterministic computing machine.

I think everyone has different opinions about the coins they will sell, and I prefer ETH and LTC to buy and then i trade, and i think these two coins have a good chance for long-term investments because they always have good progress from Time to time.

Started with BTC the switched to LTC. After a little profit i moved to VTC. Still holding :D

Currently  Im hodling ETH,Waves, Dash and some SSIO.

This coins does have alot of potencil in the near future mostly Waves nd Etherium. I would prefer to hold some ICO Tokens at the same time.

Today I bought into ZCASH, ZCOIN, NEO, 0X and some more Waves. To be honest, you cannot get enough of waves as I personally feel that it is being suppressed by some huge whales and is on the verge of exploding.

The coins which I am holding are ethereum, monero, siacoin, golem and civic. All of these coins have shown good amount of growth in past and still have slot of potential.
Civic is the coin which I will recommend you to hold for sure as it is a very unique project. The team is also very strong and the CEO is vinny lingham who is very experienced.

As of now,  I haven't invested in any altcoins.  Planning to buy after few weeks once I have some amount of BTC. As being new to invest,  planning to invest in CTX in the initial. I could see a very good growth in a short span.  Trustworthy for a long term investment.

On ICO 70 million MGO tokens were sold for 53 million USD, so 0.75 USD per token, not 2 USD. But it's true, current price is lower than ICO price.

It's hard to project he price, especially because MGO token will be used in mobile games that are sold in Gamecredits Gstore shop. So success of MGO will depend a lot on how successful Gamecredits project will be.

Gstore is trying to compete in huge mobile gaming industry with leaders like Google and Apple. So the competition will be very tough. There's very limited choice of games in Gstore at the moment and they're very far from taking their share in the market. But thath doesn't mena they can't succeed in the long term. I tried playing some of their games and they're pretty good and what I like about them is their unique approach to advertising. For example if you're running out of time to complete a level, you can get extra time if you if you agree to take a look at an add or play quest from another of their games. I think this is nice way of advertising, beause contrary to annoying adds on websites or paper adds in mailboxes, everybody will be happy he can look at the add, so he can get another chance before he fails to complete the level. I see a lot of revenue potential from this kind of in-game advertising. An interesting approach that might give them an edge over the competition.

MGO price is in my opinion so low at the moment, because there's no progress seen in public. I hear some rumors that they are making progress, but keeping all their development top secret. It's a kind of understandable that if they want to compete in as competitive market such as mobile gaming is, they can't let competition know what exactly they are doing. I'm holding some MGO tokens I bought during ICO, and am not thinking of selling them for now. Their plans from the beginning were to introduce MGO tokens to the games until the end of the year. So they haven't missed any deadlines or broken any promises yet and I see no reason for any worries. I'm going to wait to see if they deliver what they promised by the end of the year. If they do I'm sure the price will go up.

Almost any token that's not a scam and is cheaper than it's ICO price is cheap enough to worth buying. But for long term hold, MGO is quite risky because they depend on Gamecredits and noone can be sure if they can deliver what they promised before we see MGO tokens put to use in real life. So I wouldn't hold a large portion of my portfolio in MGO, but a very small portion might give nice profits in the future.

I'm holding ETN and COMBICOIN. I think both are great concepts. ETN really has this disruptive touch of bringing crypto to the masses with their mobile mining experience. Combicoin felt just like a safe haven. Any other recommendations of coins that are a safe bet?

Uhm... I bought OAX and waves. they have good future for sure. Because people are bored from hacked exchanges and these projects provides decentralized exchanges which means not possible to be hacked. In 2018 their price will climb to unexpected levels  8)

PIVX, NEO and WAVES, I like holding them

For the time being and so far i often buy Ethereum and Litecoin only.. on Altcoins, i trying keep holding it and waiting for the price to rising again in the next time. I am currently holding doge which i bought at 20 sats and plan to sell it mostly at 100 sats and a stop loss at 40 sats when it croses that point mark. If you remember the price had fallen drastically few months back because of numerous events by end of this year it will surely climb back up.

yeah i know that to minimize risks such as the risk of death from altcoin, or a very deep price reduction, because when you buy altcoin that has a big name risk for the coin is dead and the price drops very deep is quite small, unlike when you buy altcoin that is not so famous of course the risk will be big enough, but of course they may be more profitable because it is very possible new coin or coin that not so famous to pump several times as they only have a small marketcap so very easily to fluctuate

I hold some high cap coins: Zcash, Monero, Ethereum and Ripple. I think they are a safe investment.

I also bought some ark and ptoy,both are interesting project with a longterm potential. There are many new projects with interesting plans, so I will watch out for some coins under the radar to hold.

A few that I'm speculating to buy one of them is OpenMoney since it's relevant to my career specifics.

Read that it's a monetization platform for applications developers.

ICON will be massive.  It is the Ethereum / NEO of Korea.   The company is heavily connected to industry and business throughout Korea.  Someone even speculated that the South Korean Govt waited until the day the ICON ico finished and then implemented their ICO ban.   Giving ICON free reign to dominate the crypto scene in South Korea.   This puts ICON (ICX) as a top five cryptocurrency with its own block chain (Not an Ethereum token) for 2018.

Kim dot com ICO coming January 20 will be massive.

Just sold a bunch, but I have been holding UnikoinGold since September. They're an esports token and their concept is very interesting, especially since esports are becoming more and more official in other countries other than South Korea. Status was a good coin to get before the pump was done a couple of days back. I am going to purchase some Status if they get a lower price.

The FUD still happens in Status, I think you can bid low price to buy extra it before it bounces. A token dumped by the FUD always comeback with highest profits, Monaco, Bitquence, openANX are tokens had did that and go the moon.

I am holding my free bounty coins which i got through bounty program and whose projects are good for long time, like ICONOMI, ICOB, VSL, TIME, CFI, PLBT this are some coins whose projects are good and in long term it will give good returns.

First of all, let me commend you for taking the long term route in investing. Not saying that day trading is not good (I used to day trade stocks) but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Not all coins are made for buying and holding, because most coins, like stocks are dependent on the success of the company behind it. Analyzing that correctly requires a whole different set of skill sets.

Well I'm gonna buy some adx and mco as I see it having more potential in the future and for long term holding.
As we all know adex have a successful ICO and in just a week the token was totally sold out. While mco had a great pump last month so I'm seeing that will happen again in time.

I am planning to buy some Shift, waves and DeepOnion. What do you think about these?

Me, i hold altcoins today, and those are came from the bounty rewards where I get a campaign, their value seems too small so I'm still hpldong them for a while, but the only coins that are worth investing in with altcoins is the ethereum. It is the only altcoins which have a potential to grow, just for me, ethereum is worth buying today because in a couple of years their value will rise up just lile what happened to bitcoins.

The altcoin that I have, currently, are ETH and PBT. And I'm also interested on buying more or investing with these two. I believe that these two are good as an investment and in fact PBT is already having a larger price than Bitcoin. while ETH is oftenly used in ICOs which makes its market value and demand high. I think investing with these altcoins will yield to huge profit in the future.

Definitely going to hodl Howl and Deeponion. I guess since I'm a part of the DO airdrops that a given, but still! I'd also like to buy into ARK since I like their project so much, and the price has been dropping so the window in which it's a good time to buy in might be closing, so I guess I've got to make that decision soon. I hold the coins that have a lot of potential to grow, I believe in, or just aren't at the price I want it to be at. I try to do my best to stay active and see what I can do too, if I lose interest in the community because the devs aren't putting in the time/effort then that's definitely a big turnoff.

One of my biggest buy low and hold coins will be ARK.  I like to trade on the coins as they have the swings.  But this one for me seems like it has a lot of potential for big upside.  I really like the smart bridges and seeing how companies are able to develop this further out.  Also it could be interesting what it looks like when the consumer or automation gets to utilize this protocol.

I hold LTC, ETH and XMR. LTC because it has a good community and the dev has a good credibility. ETH because of its Smart Contract and second to bitcoin in coinmarketcap. XMR because it has a very good commotion and good security privacy coin.

Bought UKG and planning on HODLing it for a year or so. Their ico ends in a week or so.

Well there’s a lot of projects out there. The only one worth holding imo is xvc because the of technology. For now I have iota, doge, ripple, dgb, and I have couple others but some little amounts. I hold this coins for now, in past months this altcoin prices are steady, they have little fluctuations but nothing big is happening for now. I think this coins are good cause of active communities, people talk a lot about them, they have big market caps, and many people agree that this coins will have future. I plan to buy more of this altcoins, and some new one, and I will hold them couple years before selling that is sure. For good things we need to have patience and wait them to come.

I am not a fan of OMG. I think that out of all the coins that are being traded on an exchange, the only profitable coin that has people behind it the most is Bitcoin.

I am not really investing on their ico. But I support many ICOS by joining their signature campaigns in order to support them on their own project and also in their ico. It is one way in gathering many supporters or investors in order for their ico to get their attainable success. Those I got from signature campaigns, I am hodling on to it in order for me to profit more. When the price of that coin will go boom.

My personal favourite coin where I buy every dip is Waves, because I am very bullish for decentralized exchanges.

Right now it's price is kinda low because of the upcoming fork of Bitcoin which is Bitcoin Gold. But once the fork is done and everything is back to normal. I think the price will go up.

I was investing and holding in altcoins too and unfortunately had it all converted to Bitcoin and then made a cashout due to an unexpected emergency. My holding's are Ethereum, BitcoinCash, Litecoin and Dogecoin. I did not bought BitcoinCash I got it for free during August one's hard fork. I invested in Doge though it is undervalued but still I was able to make profit with it. Ethereum and Litecoin are proven and tested safe for long term investment by many so it's worth it when you hold them for long. As of now, I have token holdings like Soferox and will soon have Spectre.ai's tokens namely; SPEC-U and SPEC-D tokens maybe by mid December. If I were you mate, better choose, buy and hold altcoins now while the price is still down.

I am confused by many coming altcoins offering various advantages as well as the scheme that actually made me a headache because they only offer pictures. I only hold altcoins (in large amounts) that have existed for long time ie ETH, LTC and XRP.

Right now i'm holding neblio, sphre, eth and monero for long term. I will hold for at least until late 2018 before deciding to sell it or continue to hold it. I may be increasing my load if there's some good news for the above tokens though.

The coins that i am holding are MONERO and ETHEREUM and i think that these coins have enormous potential and can really grow in future.

Very good idea, I think. If their upcoming forks with the transition to PoS will be successful, Ethereum can rise very high. I also want to invest some money in ETH.
And I also believe in NEM - I think it's undervalued . They are ready to launch significant update Catapult and NEM is already tested by many Japan banks - I believe it will rise too.

I see district0x (DNT) on the rise as well even though they had to gone through a pump and dump scheme by whales at the start. They have a great and transparent communication and just got a verified Twitter account recently and with ETHlance and NameBazaar released, MemeFactory incoming and a whole lot more in the pipeline I definitely see them succeed in the future

All my long-term bets, and my money, are in very few currencies: Bitcoin 60%, ether 30% and Deeponion 10%. It is true that I am constantly looking for new options because every day there are interesting projects and developments in the altcoin universe, so I do not despise the possibility of adding new options to my investment portfolio.

GRS - Groestlcoin is what I have my eye on because it has so many good features when it comes to privacy. They even just added the lightning network on the network so the coin has huge potential and I'm hearing that the coin has the developer skills to go double digits so it would be good to check them out. I think in time of this great recession. One should go for ICO investing. Not the very best time to hold altcoins, atleast not till bitcoin shows positive signs of reversal and getting out of bear, which now some people think will last till 2019 atleast. However there are always a few coins one can buy for long term, couple of them would be zcash and etc imo.
