Title: Curecoin folding@home team - 2000 DGC in Bounty 7/30/13
Post by: cygnusxi on May 02, 2013, 03:51:19 AM
7/30/13 - New Bounties

2000 DGC to be given out to the folders on in addition to anything you get from Cryptobullion's folding site

First team member to gain 2,500,000 points - 1000 DGC PRIZE

Second team member to gain 2,500,000 points - 500 DGC PRIZE

3rd to 8th member to gain 2,500,000 points - 100 DGC PRIZE

Current points not counted, this is fresh race for anyone to join now, first to gain 2.5 m points wins.

This should be easy for some people from the folding rates Im seeing. Some miners have rigs big enough to finish this is less then a day.

Since we need some extra steam to get to that 1200 rank quick, I am putting up a bounty!

The person with the highest 24 hour total once we hit rank 1200 will get 0.15 BTC! I will be using kakaostats (http://kakaostats.com/tsum.php?t=224497) to get this information. Lets get to rank 1200 Cheesy

Just to clarify, I mean 24 hours prior to the rank 1200. So say we hit 1200 on Aug 5 at 04:00 UTC, all points from Aug 4 at 04:00 UTC to Aug 5 at 04:00 UTC will count.

---------------
New bounty - 28 primecoins  - first member to create over 1,000,000 points in a 24 hour period. This bounty takes you 1 day to get with the right amount of gpu.  24 hours = 28 primecoins
--------------

Total bounties available 2000 DGC + 0.15 BTC + 28 Primecoins

Folding pool funds at 160k GLC to be paid to folders.

I just made a team for folding@home.

"Cryptocoin Network" team number 224497

Put the team code in your client if you want to join me in a test run to compare to other teams. There is a team called bitcoin killers i seen, and another called bitcoin. They didnt have too many points compared to some others, so i thought it would be interesting to see how quick bitcoin miners would rise in rank.

Starting time 5/1/2013 11:25 pm EST

A lot of you are busy with the China coin at low difficulty.... the CHNCoin thread is 50+ pages deep already lol. I gave it a try and got a ton of orphans and not a single block.

When your done with the CHNCoin mining take a break and use one or two cards to do a folding project. if you havent tried it yet, the interface is very nice. You can select any GPU easily and use it for folding with the ability to pause /save your progress.  You can even use the animation of the molecule as an interesting screensaver.

With multiple gpus you can point one gpu to folding and the other to mining with no loss in performance.

I plan on giving out a few FTC when i see your names pop up in the list!

Post by: cygnusxi on May 03, 2013, 02:02:52 AM

Got the first WU done for the "Cyptocoin Network" folding team. Took about as long as mining 4 or 5 feathercoins . got 2224 points for the board.

This is giving me a closer idea of what reward is appropriate for points earnerd. So im putting a bonus / bounty on the first person to fold a work unit worth 2000+ points for team Cryptocoin

Bounty 25 FTC for first WU worth 2000+ points

you might have to do 2 small WUs to get 2000+ , the work is auto assigned.

Bounty 5 FTC for first 5 people to hit 2000+ points

Teams stats  can be looked up here

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py)

Post your folding name in this thread before you start folding if you use a name other than the forum name u use here.

When your project is finished please post total time and points of your WU, along with the amount /type of gpu you used, so i can further learn the
ratio of power consumption / bitcoin compared to power consumption  / folding points.

other stats like what your gpu usage and temps were comapared to mining. Also, try mining while foldind... i can fold and mine with very little speed loss on same card.

A "short while ago" meaning two year ago? That article was written in 2011. I was still actively folding back then and was extremely excited about the OpenCL improvements. The new client has those improvements and more included in it since... April 2011?

Anyway, interesting idea. Moved my CPUs from altcoins to folding on your team for now. Haven't done any folding since earlier this year.

thanks for the support. Yea im kinda confused about the new beta 7. I thought the speed increase would have been done with the stable release.

Just to clarify:

That article is 2 years old. There is no such thing as the new Beta 7. V7.3.6 is the default now and is not a beta and is what you download by default if you visit http://folding.stanford.edu/

i am assuming it is workign as i have 2 of my 4 cards showing an ETA for completion but the otehr 2 cards still are at GPU useage 0% any way to manual set the "aggression" if you will for the folding? software says i am earning 11000+ points a day i will leave it running for the next 16 hrs or so.

yes moving at a decent pace!

As far as an aggression setting, not really.

i tried this which looks like it could work for mining too, but had no speed increase.
http://en.fah-addict.net/articles/articles-1-3+gpu-environment-variables.php (http://en.fah-addict.net/articles/articles-1-3+gpu-environment-variables.php)

this guy has custom ati drivers for folding, i tried one of them and it increased speed about 25% but increased power usage and heat a lot, and opencl mining would not launch with the one optimized for just folding.

cool the team is getting a good start now. i plan on giving out most of my ftc for a while to build up some folding points and not have miners lose out on coins.

After i burn through my coins, ill try some type of bid for folding points thread, with a google doc to track transactions. something like each post containing:

--------------
post:

Username: Iwant2sponserU

Bounty to get X amount of folding points for Cryptocoin team

Offering X amount of coins

----------------

next post

Username: illtakethatoffer

Claiming bounty job offered by Username : Iwant2sponserU

im sure there are some coin rich people that would pay a few coins per points for a good cause. That way they can keep mining and contribute to folding without using their own miners.

One of the things I'm seeing in just some preliminary googling(that i also recall to be the case), is that AMD cards aren't the best at folding.  Some of the numbers I'm seeing people say are that the 7950 is better but not by a huge margin at it than my overclocked Core I5 that i'm using. Nvidia cards though, mop the floor with AMD cards(producing 4-5 times the PPD), it would be interesting if you could get more NVIDIA card users to do this in exchange for cryptos as their cards aren't that good at mining those.

yea, i was thinking that since bitcoin kernel experts have perfected opencl, one of them should take a look at the opencl for folding. i bet the research networks would pay a nice amount for better opencl. i know they are working on it already. seems like bitcoiners know their cl much better though.

im folding and mining right now , temp 73 c

First 2 people in history to get Cryptocoins for folding@home! ;D I did search google to check... There is mention of folding and bitcoin is a lot of places, but a lot of it was people doubting that it would ever happen.

It looks like work units get reported in groups at the exact same time, i kinda anticipated this was going to happen after looking deeper other's folding reports. Ill have to split the "First to 2000" bounty between the both of you. Congrats!!!!

Firing up my feathercoin client right now payments will be there in a minute!

Now just to figure out how to get the GPU to do this... I have been out of the Folding game for so long.

Edit... wow they sure have changed it. Got it running via the settings... have to move the pointer to full.

not bad considering everyone just started joining me roughly 12 hours ago on this project.

i have another 9k points of work units running on 3 pc's. running 5850, gtx 550, and a dual core cpu @ 2.9ghz.

still mining on the 5850 and folding at the same time.

has anyone else yet tried getting any results about mining and folding at the same time. On amd cards this works great. if someone else could confirm mining and folding with out much lost speed in mining i think more people would give it a shot.

I don't want to slow down the processing power on work units.
Consequently, I am not doing this for FC or anything else... other than I want Stanford to see some rallying power!

Edit:
I take that back... I am sure there are flags to play around with but the hash rate is all over... my max was usually 125khash.... but with both running we are seeing it jump all over.... that and F@H takes a huge hit as well.

You need to slide the bar to "full"...otherwise it will not use your GPU while your on the computer more or less.

Nevermind. Just figured out they don't support GPU folding on the linux client (in spite of the option being there). I am not going to install Windows for this.

that message means that your card is not in the whitelist for folding. 3000 and 4000 series amd are no longer supporter for example. some brand new cards take time to get on the list too.

when work units are assigned it is based on what hardware you have. on my 7850 i get work units worth 2224 points. on gtx 550 you will get a work unit worth about 4000 points. its all based on what the benchmark system determines to be about 6 hours of work (initially the target was 1 or 2 days i think, but newer hardware is changing that)

what gpu did u use?

ok, just seen you are using linux. Use wine or a virtual machine with windows to get your gpu going.

Whoot first small unit in under BrewCrewFan. Many more to follow.

7950. Virtual machine wouldnt work since then id have to figure out a way to get PCI-e pass thru to the VM. Not sure if its possible. Even if possible, my setup wont support it cause it would surely depend on intel VT and i have ancient CPU. That and i wont touch windows, even if it cures cancer.

The wine instructions all seem to be for Nvidia... and the thought of using wine scares me.

amusing level of dedication to linux... kinda morbid...

Next round of bonuses coming out - Friecoins + PPC and TRC !

Im going to make some random bonuses and fixed bonuses.

Highest points a week from now -  10 Freicoins. (maybe more, no less)

Highest points a month from now - 40 Freicoins. (maybe more, no less)

Each new member can post your Friecoin address to receive 1 coin just for signing up and doing one work unit.

Random bonuses of 1-10 TRC PPC and FRC will be awarded for the next week.

Id like to be able to offer a lot more, but im not crypto rich

If anyone wants to chip in on bonuses and directly send coins to users in the "Cryptocoin Network" team, please post a bounty / reward and its specifications to earn it.

If you trust me enough to distribute some coins ill post exactly how many coins were donated by who, and how those coins get rewarded. Not doing this for money. its mostly to feed a never ending need to do interesting stuff. although i would not turn down an offer of donation to myself if you think im worth encouraging ;)

I could use some feedback on what people think is a fair reward to try folding out. Even though something is better than nothing right?

has anyone else yet tried getting any results about mining and folding at the same time. On amd cards this works great. if someone else could confirm mining and folding with out much lost speed in mining i think more people would give it a shot.

Edit:
I take that back... I am sure there are flags to play around with but the hash rate is all over... my max was usually 125khash.... but with both running we are seeing it jump all over.... that and F@H takes a huge hit as well.

Ive noticed weird calculations with my amd card compared to nvidia. the nvidia is constant for folding. The amd jumps all over on speed estimate even when im not mining... i keep retesting it must have done it 20x times now. What looks like a hit to folding power i think might just be the software needing a little more coding to make amd estimates accurate. Even when my PPD dips down to 300 instead of 4k, the progress bar still moves at the same rate. The overall time the WU takes also seems to stick with the time it estimates when its displays full speed. Ill be fiddling with this a lot more.

Yeah I am not sure on a lot of stuff yet because I been out of the game for a few years.
Odd that you would need to move it to full in order to get it to start on the GPU... of course I am sure there are flags to lessen the intensity of F@H in order to make room for other activities on the GPU...
My computer really does not lag all the much with F@H...

Ill PM you my FC addy too.

I'm in with 250 FRC as a simple addition to your bonus scheme.

Just give me your FRC address, and I'll just send them to be dispensed together with yours.

Awesome! sent you a message. If you would like to choose the next bounty go ahead and post it.

The next bounties i had in mind are designed to get people dedicated to showing the folding network what the "Cryptocoin Network" can do in terms of quick results due to the custom rigs lots of miners use.

The first bounties were easy... maybe too easy lol. well worth it though, im sure someone had fun racing to spot #1.

Next bounty might be something like first person to 100k points gets 100 coins, and every person to hit 100k after that gets 50.

im still trying to measure the time one puts in to get the points compared to the time it takes to mine coins with the same hardware.

This is a great chance for Nvidia owners to get crypto prizes.  calling all nvidia miners... try out folding .. your speed will boost the team a lot!

Someone with 4x nvidia card could hit 100k easy.

Sorry for reading this quickly. Is this automated or manually distributed coins?

Hopefully the foundation as it forms at FRC can come here observe and hopefully if there was some sort of client or app that could be open source and forked from Github more people could become "faucets" or if you can set this up more as a P2P set up then there would be no need to have one person or group doing the distributions.

I will be putting some the PC at home into this. Thanks for this!

Not sure how to join the team but I put in the team number on the client page.

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/daily_team_summary.txt (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/daily_team_summary.txt)

The teams with titles of "Bitcoin" and Bitcoin Killers" that i mentioned in the first post.... we have already passed them by a huge margin. With a little more participation, and a few more rewards / bounties, i think we can blow away team "Intel". It wont happen overnight, but it could if everyone pointed their miners to folding for a few days.... after that we go in for the kill and top the charts and beat team "overclockers.net" and "www.overclockers.com"

Maybe im being over optimistic. Maybe im not. The math of the bitcoin network speed vs the entire folding@home network speaks for itself.

"You may say Im a dreamer, but Im not the only one"

Time for me to finalize the next round of bounties. Within a week i will release a new set of bounties. Ill be reaching out to others who want to donate or personally sponsor bounties.

Id love to see someone with some bitcoins to spare, stop and take a look at this, and post a bounty of 5 BTC to be the first member of team "Cryptocoin Network" to reach 10,000,000 points

Perhaps a bounty of 1 btc to hit 1,000,000 points.

Soon we will have a good idea of proper reward amounts, so check back in a week if your not ready to sponsor a bounty just yet.

Either way this would create a great race of many gpus pushing our team to the top. This could create much positive media hype that will make your BTC value increase, so you investment will be well worth it.

Many thanks to everyone folding right now, and to everyone who has expressed support to the eventual creation of a widely acceptable, profitable, and fun "Paid to Research System".

Small additional bonus bounty - Community based bounty
Tomorrow morning if there is a total of 20 or more people in the team with minimum 1 work unit done, all of you will have the option to claim a portion of 60 Freicoins. Bonus will be given out as 60 coins / 20 people equals 3 FRC each. If there is 30 people with a completed work unit, ill split 60 / 30 and everyone will receive 2 FRC. tomorrow morning for me is about 12 hours away. This means, encourage your friends to fold atleast one WU.

Edit - The race to be the first 5 to get 2000+ points is still open with one spot left. Someone is really close to the last spot but anything can happen !

I just joined your discussion group on freincoin.org tonight. Im impressed with the freicoin community and their initiative to help make this all happen.

Right now this is all manual payout. Ive been refreshing the team page constantly and watching points roll in for team "Cryptocoin Network". Only refreshing it so much for my own entertainment of the growing team. The stats pages give me enough info to give proper payouts. As of now to claim bounties you can either message me or post your coin address here with the bounty you are claiming. Unless you have your coin address in your signature, and use same name here on forum as on folding network. Then there is no need to request, you will get your payment once i see your name hit a current bounty.

Mokahless was #5 person to get First 5 to 2000 point bounty.

Please send me you feathercoin address for your bounty.

The race is underway to claim 100 Freicoins + 5 FTC for being #1 on the list. Many more races and bonuses to come.

This thread was meant to promote the alt coin "Curecoin" (and all crypto coins for that matter) - So for now Id like to keep in in the alt crypto forum, but if a mod feels it more appropriate to move to a differnet section then thats fine. too.

Sending out some random bounties right now. Reminder: anyone with one work unit done can get a tiny 1 freicoin sign up bonus, just send me your Freicoin address.

MashRinx , you have not collected your 5 Feathercoin bounty for making First 5 to 2000+ points, just shoot me a message if you want it.

At this rate it wont take very long to climb that ranks. We could use a few more people to point even just 1 card or 1 cpu at the project. you can even donate as little as 25% usage of on CPU, which should not effect your mining at all

Note to all on the team, If i dont have your freicoin address yet please send a message or post your address so i can include you in sign up and random bonuses.

Post by: Nemo1024 on May 06, 2013, 11:16:47 AM
It's been almost a year since I last folded...

1 overclocked GForce GTX560Ti (est. 31500 PPD) and 1 overclocked 12-threaded 4.2GHz i7 CPU (est. 46300 PPD) are pointed to the team.
The nVidia card is my primary display adapter and was used for some supplemental Bitcoin mining @98MHs, which is not really great any more. Tried it with scrypt, but cgminer keeps crashing.
The CPU is really good for LTC scrypt, giving me 80Khs, so I'll only run it against F@H for only one WU.

I was trying their latest clinet - 7.3.6, but had to downgrade to my previously-installed 7.1.52. The latest client has a nasty feature, called Web-interface. As soon as you launch the client, it will fire up FireFox and that in turn causes the clocks on my primary adapter to drop from 1000MHz to the safe 800MHZ and locks it there. Closing Firefox does not allow me to set the clock back up, so the only option was to reboot. I was only able to avoid GPU clock drop if I was fast and closed FireFox before it completely launched, and then right-clicked the FAH icon in the tray and chose Advanced view.

EDIT: Upgraded back to 7.3.6 and disabled HW acceleration for Flash in FireFox.

EDIT 2: There is something wrong with the new client. As soon as it starts computing the WU, GPU core clock drops to 405MHz, even when no overclocking is previously applied, and can only be budged from there by a reboot. At which point the client forgets that it should be using GPU with id 2, and reverts to -1 setting, picking one of my AMD cards mining for LTC. Once I force-set the GPU to id 2, it reinitialises WU, losing previous progress.  :'( I think I am giving up on F@H after I am done with that CPU WU.

By the way, here is a nice place to watch the team and member stats:

You can see the "threat list", showing which teams you will surpass and which teams are about to surpass you.

The great thing about team "Cryptocoin Network" ---

You get paid long before the research even gets to the drug companies !! How does it feel to be getting paid long b4 Pfizer gets their greasy little hands on the formula you are helping to create 8)

This is so great, score 1 for the people, score 0 for the drug companies ;D

Edit - screw u Pfizer corp, dont be creeping on my thread

Yes, an nVidia GTX 560Ti + a 6-core i7, both doing approximately equally well and beating the AMD cards to the ground. :)

just joined the team,

I've noticed, that my hd6850 can fold and simultaneosly mine litecoin for 75% of its normal speed wheras the hd7770 loses 30%hashrate and 40% folding speed when I try to combine them.

I've noticed that despite running at a lower memclock the 6850 has 128GB/s memorybandwith vs 72GB/s for the 7770.

Has anyone experienced similar effects? What about folding and SHA mining?

10 mhash rig can do this in ~2.5 days

It will be interesting to see what happens if anyone points a 10mhash + rig at folding

Added a bounty for rank 1200, from other topic:

Since we need some extra steam to get to that 1200 rank quick, I am putting up a bounty!

The person with the highest 24 hour total once we hit rank 1200 will get 0.15 BTC! I will be using kakaostats (http://kakaostats.com/tsum.php?t=224497) to get this information. Lets get to rank 1200 :D

Edit: Just to clarify, I mean 24 hours prior to the rank 1200. So say we hit 1200 on Aug 5 at 04:00 UTC, all points from Aug 4 at 04:00 UTC to Aug 5 at 04:00 UTC will count.

Folding pool funds at 160k GLC to be paid to folders.

melnikalex seems to be in the lead for the big dgc bounty, still anyones game if someone with a large mining setup went for the bounty.

Hey keenan84, glad you're interested! I put together a short guide that probably is quite redundant for a folder like yourself, but it also has info on how to join the pool, and make a bit of cash for your folding. :)

Hmm. interesting. 140000 sounds about right, as the 780 has 12 SMX's while the titan has 14, my 780 is getting ~110000 PPD, 140,000 sounds about right when thinking about the gpu's architecture. Do you have any overclocks on that titan? :)

hey do you know if turning on double precision would speed up folding? or slow it down?

Double precision *should* be slower. I would stick with single if I were you, but if you do switch it over I'd be interested to know what you find.

The titans are great if you have just a few PCI-e slots and want to make the most of them, however if you're just going for PPD per dollar, then you might want to consider the 780s. (Although the titans are more well-geared towards 24/7 computation).

yeah i thought about the 780, but i really wanted top performance. and since i already have one, i could get another and SLI them. and just turn off SLI when i want to fold.

True :) Also, titan will probably hold resale value a tad bit better. I'm gonna go see which is more profitable considering the titan's higher density.

EDIT: For people looking into building a high-end folding machine, a 3x titan machine would cost $3626 a pop (with a platinum PSU, 4-core processor (need), 4GB RAM, etc), and would produce around 420000 PPD (Wow!).

A 3x780 machine would cost a more modest $2640.18, while producing around 330000PPD. So, the 780 machine would achieve around 125 PPDPD (Points Per Day Per Dollar), while the titan machine would clock in at 115.83 PPDPD. Close enough to make titans possibly worthwhile, either for space efficiency, slight energy efficiency bonuses, or the higher resale value of components.

If you decided to go extreme and do a 4-GPU system, however....:
4x780 build (80+Gold PSU, 4GB RAM, 4-core Vishera cpu, etc.): ~$3,600.
4xTitan build: (same as above): $4905.90

With that in mind....
4x780 will achieve around 440,000 PPD, while 4xTitan will achieve around 560,000 (WOW) PPD.

For PPDPD values.....:
4x780: 122PPDPD
4xTitan: 114PPDPD

So, I guess 3-card and 2-card builds are likely the way to go....

do you have one 780 or two?

I have one installed, one sitting in a box. I purchased it with the expectation of a CUDA primecoin miner, which never really happened. So I left the card in-box, waiting for either CureCoin's public release if it turns out to be really profitable, or to sell it on ebay and get my money back. Personally, I find ATi systems seem to give better PPDPD, but worse density. I have some of my scrypt machines (the rest are waiting on wifi cards, I can't for the life of me find where I put my spare pci-e wifi cards, but they're only $10/pop, so I ordered some more) pointed, and the 7950, which is around $270 now, hits a good 80,000 PPD, while my 780 hits a solid 110,000, at a price of $660. However, the nvidia card uses less power. Figures. :)

Oh, cost estimate stuff is in the post above, I did a quick edit :)

Just a quick question, since I am very interested in your project.

is there a Curecoin wallet somewhere?  And do you scrypt mine Curecoins as well as join the Folding@home team?  Or do you pay out with various other cryptocurrencies for Folding work being completed?  In which case, what wallets will I need to get set up, looks like some of the bounties have been paid in various currencies.

Lastly, will a small folder like me, who won't be able to win any races to X million points be able to get any rewards for folding?

Just a quick question, since I am very interested in your project.

is there a Curecoin wallet somewhere?  And do you scrypt mine Curecoins as well as join the Folding@home team?  Or do you pay out with various other cryptocurrencies for Folding work being completed?  In which case, what wallets will I need to get set up, looks like some of the bounties have been paid in various currencies.

Lastly, will a small folder like me, who won't be able to win any races to X million points be able to get any rewards for folding?

Unfortunately there is not curecoin wallet yet, that's coming soon though for the beta release :)

Curecoins are 'mined' with scrypt, however 45% of the coins are awarded to the person who mined the block (or the pool that did so), while 45% go to a pool that distributes them to the folders based on how much folding power per day they are running/have. The main bounty that I'm reaching for right now is Digitalcoins, the pool pays out everyone in Globalcoins, there was a primecoin bounty for something, and I think there was something to do with a smattering of FreiCoins, though I'm not so sure about that one anymore, it might have been something else.

Right now, you'd probably just about break even with electricity (depending on your electric rate), because of the Globalcoins everyone receives for folding. However, once CureCoin is released, it's extremely likely that you will be able to make some good profit, just like small-time scrypt miners can do nowadays. The bounties are the high-hanging fruit right now, but soon CureCoin will be a pretty even playing field, and you can either mine or fold to make pay for electricity and then some. :)
