When the btc price goes up, what is now a good time to buy altcoin or sell bitcoin? ???

Whenever bitcoin price goes up it is for sure that it will affect altcoin in opposite way. What it means is altcoin will loose value dramatically because they become more costly to buy and you will loose profit in the process. So you better sell them immediately when the bitcoin jumps too high. Also, make a note that bitcoin may not remain that high for long. So you may wait.

Whatever the price of BTC i think the majority of BTC is to hold. not trade for anything. the part of it that i choose to trade i do it for altcoins i believe do minimize the risk of holding worthless bags.

I think you should hold onto your btc if you have any. Maybe liquidate a portion of your holdings if you're scared of a sudden dump. You definitely don't want to miss the next big pump

Yes, bitcoin is being pumb now to touch $3,000. All the altcoins seen to facing down wards today and I think this will create another opportunity to buy them. This week I make alot from lisk, litecoin and round. Now those currencies seen to be dropping and I think this is the best time to buy those coins against as in few moments from now those coins will be in green.

actually most of the people are focusing on bitcoin because the price of bitcoin in continuously increasing, and people are holding bitcoin and not going to sell it. when the price of bitcoin will become stable then people will start investing their bitcoin in alt coins, but currently the price of bitcoin is trading very unstable, it is expected that the price of  bitcoin will cross 5000 USD  level at the end of 2017.

It's a good time to accumulate for buy more cheap altcoin which means you will be able to buy and hold altcoin to get a decent profit in the future.
Never sold your bitcoin if you have seen the potentially of your bitcoin to growing more.
My advice to buy some of the altcoins on the bottom and just move them into your safe wallet and just be patience until the pump of altcoin will come.

Not many people know or care to notice how these dumps are necessary, if every body were to only buy and hold then from where you could earn a profit and find cheap coins?
If only every body played along and paid their fair share by selling and then later buying again, if all of us stop buying back or stop dumping then it will become a ponzi, only a few cashing out big and never buy back to support others.
Dumps are imperative to the ecosystem and without them there would be no market, remember if people were only to trade an apple for an orange all the times then every body would've started to plant the easiest tree to grow since they could give one to receive one of another.
I am aware of the fact when you see price going down you get disappointed but it's because you as an individual are small with limited fund and are unable to buy all the dumps at once and then keep them to see if others will sell to you or not.

I choose to sell 50% bitcoin for altcoin with low price for investment, of course, stay with my analyze about price action. This is a good time to collect some altcoin like xrm/ xrp because the price go down. Hope next year will up so I can raise good profit, simple explaining is bitcoin not always up somehow it will go down. It's risky but worth for me because altcoin can become shitcoin. The bitcoin is start pumping again, By the way that is a good strategy because after that I am sure that the price of altcoins will pump because of that dump and also the bitcoin price will not be stable in pump so after it reach the pick price and then dump the altcoins will pump and that means profit.

Most of the time when bitcoin goes up most of the altcoins goes down, but some altcoin remain at ease to their price value like Eth, Ltc, Xmr, and others.  consequently, still majority of the altcoins really goes down the good time to buy the value and that's the right time to buy of those altcoins dropped the price.

I don't know really what's indicator to predict bitcoin-altcoins price.
I can assume with your opinion above that when a certain altcoin hit the highest marketcap it could be one of many indicator to expect the price will skyrocketing right?

Highest market cap is a clear indication of happening of high manipulation especially in altcoin markets hence it will not be an assurances we are going to see continuous pumping for skyrocketing. It happened many times and I did see many traders did get trapped. Being just a watcher is really more interesting in these high volatile markets.

There is no clear strategy on these as of now. If you have asked me some 3 months back, I would have suggested you to go for selling altcoins when bitcoin is on up surge. But now a days altcoin markets got their specialized traders to keep their levels intact regardless of where bitcoin prices are trading.

Good question. Actually it's depends from each person to choose he want do what or maybe both. When bitcoin price rising like yesterday, almost all altcoins falling and that was the best time to buy more altcoins, but in other hands, bitcoin price also rising so sky high (almost doubled than 1 month ago).

I didn't in hurry to earn money, i just saw if that was the best time to sell some of my bitcoins because it's looks like the peak of bitcoin price.
Luckily for me because i did that, but too late for you (actually your patience) because the price already falling down from $2650 into $1800 now, What will do you right now? Holding your bitcoins and wait until it reached $5000, $10,000, or $100,000 which we never know it will happens or not?

For me I quitely earn a lot by doing some margin trading on bitcoins and quitely im waiting for another drop to buy again and wait for another bubble since i have a good feelings that bitcoins will bounce back again after this little correction happening unto it. And maybe as you said price would go for that and it is just regaining its momentum to go burst again in near future.

I had a bad time today with the correction and good that you anticipated the correction exactly. :) The wait time is to be determined only after the level of fall is completed and i am waiting for a good entry time and i had to sell off some coins at a loss when the correction started and hopefully i could re enter at a good price and level my loss at a later time.

Before when the BTC price goes up the altcoin goes down but now that doesn't apply anymore. If you could see in some trading sites recently when BTC's price went down for like $400 or so the altcoins price didn't actually pump. So basically what happened now is that all of the altcoins prices went halfway down and are having a hard time pumping it. I think now is the best time to buy altcoins but you have to choose the right coins to invest your money on.

It can not be told as market is unpredictable. It's better to see the result of segwit actvation by this september that it could cause bitcoin to hit $3000-$4000 for its price.

I think for now both bitcoin and altcoin decreasing expecting people to increase back again high..
We experience of huge price drop just for 1 day.

I think the drop is just a bunch of people taking profit. they are going to lose out on the next big pump in altcoin. There are altcoins that are going up still beacuse the market is beginning to realize that they are missing out on massive opportunities from selling them

i'm in the position that taking opportunity when red is showing around the trade site if i do have spare btc i keep buying little by little in order to gain profits when massive pump start all over again.

Agree mate, because the value of altcoin are depending on the value of bitcoin. That is why more investor are waiting for the big dump of bitcoin because that is the best time to sell their hold altcoin. That is one of the strategy of the traders.

Yap and i noticed it also time for altcoins to make there own pump but i dont guarantee investing in some random altcoins. Best still to read there whitepaper or the project ann. Thread. Other coins also do this twice a year and it has no connectiong with the btc's pump and dump. There are other coins that has there own projections and does not perform like other coins.

Depends on peoples preference, when bitcoin price tend to rise up some people do have altcoin holdings do decide to sell off so that they can able to accumulate more bitcoin and tend to hold until the price rise on a certain point which they can able to decide to sell on decent price and then most alts dump and then by the use of bitcoin buy some of them.Its just like that if you are a trader you would really understand what i mean here.

The bitcoin price will go up anytime and it will not go dumping as we can see in the chart. Even bitcoin is pumping it doesn't mean that altcoins will go dump. There are only some altcoins will go dump and some will go pump because some altcoins only pumps when the bitcoin pump also.

Same. If bitcoin rises, you have two options  and it's to hold or sell.  It's best to sell bitcoin to buy altcoins as their price it inversely proportional thus it's great opportunity to make profit.

Don't go for panic selling option. Yes now the price is down compared to last week but don't worry it will recover in few days. If you sell Bitcoins and buy altcoins, then it is your risk. Well I believed that if Bitcoin falls, which was inevitable, the altcoins will rise. But that was not the case.

So until 2600 most alts grew with Bitcoin, them from 2600 to 2800 alts fell 10-20%. Then when Bitcoin plunged alts went even lower. I wasn't expecting that behavior.

Now, whenever Bitcoins grows even $50, most alts grow with Bitcoin. This applies to altcoins that are not related or compete at all to Bitcoin, is just that they are bought using Bitcoin.

you need to be very much careful. the market usually take correction at that time which cause the price of decrease but not too much. you just need to hold your bitcoin and not to sell it in such situation. i think through this way you can really prevent yourself from a big lost. i think the best thing is to study about the coin where we are are going to invest money.

Sorry for your loss... The reason of the alts dumping is I guess some sort of proportional with the BTC. I think the BTC being a Pioneer in the crypto has influence over the alts.

Most of the time when bitcoin price goes up altcoin price declines significantly so during this time people mostly sell their ethereum, dash and maybe ltc. So if the price of bitcoin goes really high it's better if you buy one of these. Nowadays the market is really unpredictable so can't really know which coin will be pumped when , but if you hold ether for a long time you can get some good profits

Most of the altcoins dump but it is the trend all the time, what happen to Ethereum? Despite the increase of bitcoin's value Ethereum were also able to reach it's another all time high, by looking at https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/, it's over 200 dollars now, it has not happen previously.

yes it is depending on bitcoin, price, as bitcoin is the main currency and most of the people like to invest in bitcoin specially when the price of bitcoin start increasing people put all their assets in bitcoin. they even sell all other altcoin for getting bitcoin to hold and when they realize that now the time is that bitcoin price will dump then they convert their bitcoin in to other potential altcoin and so the price of altcoins start bumping again.

Sell bitcoin of course, because as the bitcoin price goes down again the lower value you can sell your altcoin, and in fact even if the price of altcoin goes down as bitcoin goes up it will still has the same value (if buying using bitcoin.)

I believe there will not be any definite plans with the respect to ups and downs of bitcoin prices impacting altcoin price levels. Because there were plenty of incidents when bitcoin prices were finding downfall whereas altcoins rising and also joining bitcoin prices for downfall. It is up to impacting current news and events. So, we cannot be sure all the times for sticking with one definite plan for this regard.

Thats true, but it is the safest among all the choices, if the bitcoin price goes high then selling is the easiest/safest way to ensure the incoming profit, because as we know altcoins are somehow complicated.

For me I would say it actually depends on the alt one has keep an eye on because without that there is no way one would know which one has reduce in price as a result of the increase in the price of bitcoin considering the fact that all alts react differently to any changes witnessed in the price of bitcoin and one might be making a mistake thinking the price has fall ready to increase not knowing it has reached a peak and ready to start dropping.

If BTC price goes up, you can expect to altcoins go up as well. the prices of bitcoins and altcoins are very parallel to each other. the success of one coin will increase the success of other coins as well. cryptocurrency adoption is good for the whole market, not just for bitcoins.

to me i think those people who have good experience in trading, they know all the tic ticks in trading , investment and gambling.  i think experienced trader never trap by panic selling. i think most of the traders mostly invest their money in gambling for long term, as long term investment is more safer than short term investment, in long term investment we mostly do not care for the little dumps and are expecting a good profit after some time.

Experienced traders are emotionless while trading. they don't see their account balance as money but as a video game score. they make rational decisions and can make calculated decisions while under pressure. I dont have that much experience in trading so long term investing is more suitable for me.

Not all the time the alt coin price is going down when btc price is up, but for now buying alt coin is better than selling your bitcoin, bitcoin price will keep on rising, if you sell you will regret it, trading alt coin now is better because the price is quite unstable so there are many chance to earn profit but you need to choose which alt coin to trade, there are so many fake pumps so need to be extra careful when you buy alt coin

I will suggest to buy a litecoin or dodge as these altcoins value also moving upwards and Segwit seems activated on litecoin some weeks before. So you can buy the altcoin or start trading with altcoin both would right option now. Even whenever bitcoin price raises that time altcoins value also use to grow.

All cryprocurrencies related to each other with  different chains. In forex you need to seel one currency to buuy another. It is almost same thing in this crypto markets. When one coin pumps,another one goes down. It is efficient market theory.

I would say, buy altcoin and hold some bitcoin. Most altcoins now are too cheap making it the best time to buy them. Though bitcoin has already reached another ATH in the past week, I can see that it is not yet the very peak of bitcoin. That it would still go up as what other bitcoin enthusiast are saying so better hold some bitcoin.

Yes technically if bitcoin goes up. Then we can say that many altcoins would goes dump becuase of many trades selling their altcoin and will affect theprice of it. And they will buy bitcoin as soon as it's lower and sell it high. So after bitcoin pump they will their bitcoins in higher and buying many altcoins that have affect in bitcoin pump

I think buying altcoin is the right choice when bitcoin prices increase. We know that the price of altcoin must have decreased quite high when it happened. We should not be afraid of losses because most dev altcoin will pump their coins. It can make us profit.

I didn't pay much attention to most of the alts during the past 2 weeks (or rather, a week from the middle of May) but I also noticed Doge bucking this trend. It had always more or less kept trajectory with BTC in terms of fiat value, but while BTC was climbing to new ATHs, Doge was not only doing the same, but increasing in BTC value as well. I am now finding out that many alts rose in values greater than that of Bitcoin (percentage-wise).

I have theories but no evidence about why this is happening. Influx of new crypto users is the only reasonably sound answer, I'd say.

Yes when there will be more possibility of manipulations, I guess we cannot expect any specific patterns to happen all the times. I mean to say we cannot expect all the times bitcoin and altcoins to be get traded in opposite directions. Because there are occasions where few of altcoins that being traded in same directions and in some other occasions just the resiprocal was happening.

The prime reason for this must be insiders and their heavy manipulations. Random movements must be the right term to be called for these markets.

Insiders for cryptocurrency is unlikely. There are too many factors that go contribute to bitcoin price movements, unlike the stock market where someone can have access to quarterly reports ahead of the public. I'd be more scared of pump and dump groups manipulating the market.

Well i think once you're already comfortable with your earnings, it would be a good time to sell. Though it has been proven that holding on for a long time can give you higher earnings, sometimes you have to feel first if you are ready and contented with what you've earned. Especially now that btc ptices are high, its almost certain that all of us already profited. So it would be up to you if you're already happy with that earning or hold and be patient if you want bigger earnings

That actually depends on your style of investing, because if you prefer to just book your profits from bitcoin then selling a big part of the funds stocked in BTC is a good idea.
However, considering that some altcoins are extremely cheap right now thanks to such a big price surge, you may just use this occasion to get even greater profits than just from selling Satoshi Nakamoto coin: but that is actually really risky: you need to remember that altcoin price is being influenced also by BTC price and after all, the volume is smaller so  the movements on the price are even bigger than on bitcoin, if you just look at the daily changes given in %.

If you have some free btc that you are not going to use, then buy a little bit of other alts, some of them are really cheap so consider it as a good occasion to get some small returns.

Yes that's quite a good observation and there is a logic too behind it. Altcoins have a market swing only when there is not much happening to bitcoins but when the bitcoin market is on a swing everyone trades bitcoins and hence the price goes down for altcoins.

I am quite sure that the price of altcoins does not bother anyone since they cal sell for btc and the btc price has already increased means they still hold same value of USD or even more.

Yup. It is obvious and most of the newbies know about it. The BTC price has become the base price for all other altcoins and if BTC rate has doubled over time then the altcoin exchange range could not be the same, think like that, So it is quite obvious.

I think its nothing related to the altcoins price with the bitcoins hike, its just a co-incidence that when the price of bitcoins is bubbling up the altcoins markets slow down a bit.

thats one fact for sure, Bitcoin price is the base price for all other altcoins, but bitcoin value is not directly proportional to what altcoins are valued for... I say this because in most cases when bitcoin price dips its no guarantee that altcoins will enjoy a rally as response to a dip. Yes exactly but I would suggest a little change. As the alt coin's price will go up only when the bitcoin's price decreases and hence you either do one of those, sell bitcoins or just buy more and more alt coins because holding btc and at the same time buying altcoins will create no profit and no loss situation. Believe in bitcoin or either go all in with a good altcoin when the price is high of bitcoins.

Currently, investing in altcoins is a better option as the bitcoin price is too high to hold and earn profit. It's only good for those who have been holding since 6-7 months while new altcoins always have the capability to increase in value when they are distributed via ICOs. In the previous year it often happened that when the price of bitcoin increase other altcoins decreased in price but this year I saw a number of altcoins also increased with the price of bitcoin increase. I think that is because of the increase of the investors.

yes it is simple that when btc goes up alt coin price goes down. but not sure all time will occcur the same thing with all alt coin.Some alt coin which has high value and ranked  these follow the btc.when btc goes up they also go up. Maximum time when btc up alt down. so it is the best time to collect some alt coim for holding.

If you can foresee bitcoin going up then it's a great time to stock up on some of the major altcoins as well. What you usually see I'd that even though bitcoin is absolutely smashing it the percentage of total market cap bitcoin holds declines when it rises meaning that altcoins are worth a buy.

To be on the safe side though just hold onto your bitcoin as altcoins are generally a ko tomorrow volatile and can crash without warning.

If bitcoin goes up, i think it is better to just sell some of your bitcoin to get profits and use the majority to buy a lot of altcoins in the market because most of the times when bitcoin goes the altcoin goes down which is a buying opportunity for the long term investors of crytpocurrencies and the price of altcoin is just basing in bitcoin so it is very easy for altcoin to go down when bitcoin is going up. Just be smart in spending your bitcoin in altcoins because sometimes you will end up losing money if you bought a wrong coin.

I beg to disagree. As per my experience (though I'm not a pro), when bitcoin goes up, generally alt coins go down but there are these "special" altcoins that tends to go with bitcoin as it goes up. These are only few coins. That is why when there is a bitcoin pump, I am grabbing the oppurtunity to buy some altcoins.

This statement applies for most of the altcoins available out there but not to all. Some altcoins like ethereum, monero and litecoin are showing good amount of growths and are one of the good investment options available out there.

yeah ETH is pumping too, gonna invest there again. But I dont know why Monero is rising

I am not much sure that which Altcoin to pick for the mid term investment but I think I should give a try to the ETH, LTH. Yes, I believe that bitcoin would skyrocket on the price chart down the road but still I want to hold some of my crypto investments in altcoins. I used to trade in altcoins but never tried to hold it for more than a week, so it is getting little bit difficult for me to pick any coin.

There is no certain point when is to good time to nuy or sell altcoin/bitcoin as trading has always risk thus it's unpredictable. If you buy low, it might dump again thus we can not tell when is good time to buy/sell bitcoin/altcoin.

yes no doubt that risk  is always there but we have to accept that fact that most of the people have good experience in the crypto market and they know the ups and down of the market and they mostly give a very perfect prediction about the price of bitcoin and therefore on the bases of these prediction we can decide to buy or  sell bitcoins or any other crypto currency.

I guess when the price of bitcoin rises the price of altcoin will be lower since crypto currencies depends their value to its co crypto currencies.
In terms of trading your altcoin, I guess you cannot predict the good timing of it if you sell it or buy yours since we cannot determine what will be the next pump or dump it is just in your gut if you have the courage to sell or buy it is a bit risky because you will put your money into something you ard not sure.

It often happen when the rush of the investors come from the altcoin side but when the people come from outside or people invest their other money in bitcoin and not the money from their altcoin then it not happen and the price of both then increase.

But seems right now they are all down. Initially though when the price of bitcoin rises, alt coins is down. But now its not the case. It looks like that investors are into bitcoin and into alt coins as well. So its really hard to predict now how the market trend or the relationship of bitcoin and alt coins now.

Waiting better, sometimes we are stuck with a dump when it is not ahir it is a strategy to form support. Panic sell just makes the heart regret.  >:(

I'd prefer to purchase altcoins when btc pumps. Like what happened a day or two ago. Btc price went up a couple of percentage and stayed up to this time. The time it went up almost all altcoins got negative movements. I was able to purchase a few favorite alts to trade with that time

That is most often happened in the altcoin when bitcoin increase. But not all altcoin is like that, like eth, xem, maid, bay, and there are few coins that are not dumping the price unlike other coins in the market. So if there are coins which you think is will get increase again you are free to do it, but of course be wise and be careful on buying it.

Whenever bitcoin price goes up,altcoins start bleeding.It occurs commonly in crypto market.Altcoin holders immediately sell their coins in order to buy bitcoins.This makes the situation much worse.So when bitcoin price increases,just hold your bitcoins.On the other hand,when bitcoin price falls down,just follow what people do i.e.,you can sell your bitcoins and buy a good altcoin to increase your bitcoin volume.

Its not that simple, there is an initial reaction yes but as soon as bitcoin has pumped for a day or two new money flows to alts and they are the ones that pump usually to the detriment of bitcoin.

Well I say that but the markets are more complex than simple explanations but that explains the basic forces that move the price.

I agree with you, there are some altcoins that are not affected by the rise of bitcoin. Your opinion is good, i will try it another time.

Yes, we will never get chances to fix the entire cryptocurrency market into one simple pattern. The recent market movements are good self-explanatory on this. Altcoins found up surges regardless of bitcoin's up or down movements. But there were old times when bitcoin was dominant in terms of share on total cryptocurrency market cap, at those times mostly altcoins found down fall when bitcoin rises.

Sometimes such statements do not apply, because sometimes Bitcoin Up Alt is also Up. All of them sometimes depend on traders who panic.

Every thing in trading is depends also in demand and supply.. where the price was increased.. but trading bitcoin to altcoin or altcoin to bitcoin has a good potencial that you can gain more profit than staying in one coin this is just base what im experience in trading..  because altcoin also have fast movement of the price and bitcoin and slow price increased..

yes and I think the demand of bitcoin is increasing from time to time, because more and more people are getting awareness about bitcoin and the benefits of bitcoin are compelling them to enter the world of  bitcoin, which is increasing the denand of bitcoin and so the supply is decreasing and altimately the price of bitcoin is also increasing. I am sure that in future the price of bitcoin will increase more because still less than 2% people of the world are using bitcoin.

It's funny how when bitcoin goes up some altcoins crash (showing their true value) while others go up with bitcoin because the exchanges list them in terms of how many satoshis it takes to buy them so some people don't even notice that they actually just went from a 3 cent shitcoin to a 2 and a half cent shitcoin lol.

You are right. It is the same which occurred in the previous month. In the previous month a large number of altcoins increased in their price when bitcoin was also increasing in its price. That happens when the investors do not withdraw their money from other coins and invest their other fiat in crypto currencies.

Theoretically it is true, when bitcoin up the alt coin price will down, but I will more suggest to not using bitcoin price to buy alt coin, alt coin got its own market it is not dependant on bitcoin, see the potential of the coin when you want to buy the coin and see the transaction volume, don't based on bitcoin price

As the btc price has been rising, the alts have also gone crazy and are finally taking off just the way btc has been doing.
Altcoins are making their new highs and its not stopping here at once, they are doing it even twice and thrice. And it's still gone risky and unpredictable that which alt may get dumped down when.

Yes, this can't be deny due to its always happen most of the time, but when there is dropping the price value happen well, expect also for the coming increase again the original price or more of it.

But there was a time when bitcoin price increase in rally (last month) but other altcoins followed it up as well. Everyone who interested in crypto world might be invested huge amount of money to bought it. However, after rises, there will be always correction due to investors/people want to get profits from high price of cryptocurrencies. So, whenever you think bitcoin price rise and altcoins dump, don't sell bitcoin instead of convert it into altcoins that you think it will increase, but if you don't know which coin, better stick to bitcoin.

my strategy in trading altcoins is very simple. I do buy altcoins when it price has retrace to a Fibonacci level and my second test is to see that bitcoin price is at the highest level. When bitcoin is very expensive and altcoins is cheap that is the best time to buy.

You are true about bitcoin and altcoin relation where they are inversely related. But it is not always true for few of the coins out there. Some of them are new in the market and get lots of investors to try them out, this gives them gain in value and they start pumping. In such a case they wont get affected even though bitcoin price is moving up or down. You can try this one on any exchange site keeping in mind that the coin you looking at is completely new and being hot in the list for investment opportunities. So, its all about personal experience.

Doing that is a tedious and risky process, better to take this opportunity and trade Bitcoins as much as possible, whenever bitcoin increases, I just sell part of it and when it dumps, I can buy more of it with the same price.

Yes this is the right time to trade Bitcoins. When the bitcoin price jumps to $2500 and reached $2900, all Bitcoin traders are switched to altcoin trading. For me investing in altcoins is a better option as the bitcoin price is too high to hold and earn profit. If you are seeing the latest chart and that makes your opinion goes wrong. That depends on the trend. The stability of the altcoin means if the bitcoin trades become the more active rather than altcoin itself.

We know that when bitcoin pump alwasys altcoin dump.We can see also that bitcoin dump and altcoin dump but bitcoin stand altcoin on the moon.So when bitcoin pump you can buy some altcoin which coin you are selected.Another option you can also buy bitcoin when its price low and than sell high.

Try searching BTC dominance charts to see the correlation between altcoins and bitcoin. Also, Marketcap chart is another value to monitor. After Dec 15 I guess both altcoins and bitcoin will go up. My answer is there is correlation between them to have a good guess try follow the charts I mentioned.
