Title: Yet another newbie post... sorry!
Post by: homeminerhomeminer on May 29, 2017, 04:58:59 PM
I've just started mining and would like, once I'm up and running, to mine either in a pool or solo to be paid in the same coin as I mine, rather than BTC. This is just using my home laptop while it's idle in work over lunch etc. I understand that this will be very low return, which is why I plan to mine only the very newest coins. For now, I'm just trying to get anything to work at all. I know how stupid I'm being in wasting my time on such low-powered hardware, so please don't tell me how stupid I'm being in wasting my time on such low-powered hardware :)

I've managed to get nheqminer working on my CPU with an equihash pool at nicehash, so that's something at least (negative returns at the moment as I'm testing at home).

I'd like to give DASH a try for a little bit on my GPU. Using the newest version of ccminer, it couldn't mine x11 (crappy 1gb GPU RAM), but weirdly when I ran it to mine in quark mode, connected to a DASH (x11) pool, I had a meaningful (very low) hash rate and kept getting "yay" confirmations. The blocks listed on my ccminer were the same as the ones listed when I viewed that pool online. Is this just a lack of error-checking in the software, or was I actually contributing to the pool?

Replacing ccminer with an old version (1.6.4 for older GPU), I am now mining in x11 mode to a DASH pool. ccminer shows a ~1Mh/s hash rate, but I can't see my address on the pool's webpage even after hours of mining. Have I just not left it long enough, or am I not being attributed properly? I used:
ccminer -a x11 -o http://80.147.68.237:9332 -u XkpuaLGRxRv5AFEgFABHa4vMrpo5FpGfmB

If I disconnect and reconnect to the same nicehash pool and the same p2pool pool a few days every week with the same target wallet, will I see any kind of coin turn up in my wallets a few weeks/months down the line? Or will such small contributions to the mining get rounded to zero when the pool cashes out periodically?

Thanks! :)
