If most miners continue to hash on the legacy chain and a small % hash on the BIP 148 chain (BIP 148 nodes reject legacy blocks) is that not a chain split? It will persist as long as the legacy chain is longer than the BIP 148 chain, or if the BIP 148 miners give up. If BIP 148 chain gets longer the legacy chain will be wiped out. The legacy chain, in the case of BIP 148 chain getting a relevant amount of hashpower, would have no choice but to hard fork to prevent the re-org threat. |
